“Maybe Merv could stay in my room tonight?” “Ohh, no, sadly he’s just fallen asleep.” 🐶 Prime Video has revealed the first official trailer for a fun romantic comedy movie called Merv, arriving to watch streaming in December. This is skipping theaters entirely and will be on Prime Video starting on December 10th – one month from now. Though it looks cute enough to get people to theaters! “There’s nothing more complicated than a breakup. Except when you’re sharing a dog.” A recently separated couple take their shared dog on a holiday trip to cheer him up, but end up reconnecting romantically. The dog’s name is Merv, hence the name of the film being Merv. This almost seems like a spiritual sequel to 500 Days of Summer, also borrowing the Forgetting Sarah Marshall concept of running into each other, but with a super adorable dog being at the center of it all. Starring Zooey Deschanel as Anna and Charlie Cox as Russ, with Chris Redd, Patricia Heaton, & Ellyn Jameson. This looks fun enough for a nice holiday watch under a warm blanket. Enjoy.

Hoping to shake Merv out of his funk, Russ takes him to Florida for a much-needed getaway—only for Anna to show up unexpectedly. As Merv slowly gets his groove back, turns out fixing their dog’s broken heart may lead to a few sparks of their own. Merv is directed by British writer / filmmaker Jessica Swale, director of the film Summerland previously and eps of the series “Ten Percent” most recently, plus other short films. The screenplay is written by Dane Clark & Linsey Stewart. Produced by Matthew Baer, Roma Downey. This hasn’t premiered at any fests or elsewhere, as far as we know. Amazon debuts Swale’s Merv comedy streaming on Prime Video starting December 10th, 2025 coming up. Who wants to watch?

Jacob Elordi reveals how his “sensitive” golden retriever dog inspired his Frankenstein performance

When it came to playing Frankenstein’s monster in Guillermo del Toro’s new adaptation of Mary Shelley’s iconic text, Jacob Elordi had no shortage of previous cinematic portrayals to draw on. From Boris Karloff to Christopher Lee to Peter Boyle to Robert de Niro, the creature has been brought to the screen countless times in a variety of iconic ways.

But rather than looking solely at his acting predecessors, the Saltburn star also found inspiration for his role from another, rather more unexpected, source: his golden retriever, Layla.

“I mean, like a child, she doesn’t speak, obviously, so everything that she does physically is to get what she needs or to show how she feels,” he explained in an exclusive interview with RadioTimes.com.

“So she’s very creature-like in the way that she operates in the world. I suppose she’s also incredibly sensitive. So there was a lot of that in her – I see the whole world in my dog’s eyes.”

Of course, Layla wasn’t the only source that came in handy to Elordi while crafting the physicality of his performance, and he admitted that his wade-range of influences stretched as far as… almost every experience he’s ever had.

“I mean, every movie I’ve ever seen, every conversation I’ve ever had, every time I’ve broken a bone, every little breakdown, every moment of ecstatic joy that I couldn’t control, everything,” he said.

“It was very much a big part of myself, I think, in the physicality of the creature. It’s strange because it’s not human, but it almost feels more human than me walking around like a guy!”

Elordi is joined in the cast by Oscar Isaac as the titular scientist, while there are also key roles for the likes of Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz and David Bradley.

The film has received some very positive reviews since premiering at this year’s Venice Film Festival, and in our own five-star write-up we heaped praise on Elordi’s performance – writing that the Australian actor “truly shows his dexterity in a performance of few words but grand and sometimes heartbreaking gestures.”

We also wrote that the film was “the accumulation of three-and-a-half decades of filmmaking knowledge” on the part of Del Toro, and that it all adds up to “a tragic tale told in a captivating manner.”

Frankenstein is now showing in limited cinemas and will arrive on Netflix on 7th November 2025.

Tyrese’s Grandmother Detained After Dog Attack, Singer Surrenders

Tyrese Gibson turned himself in to Atlanta police last Friday (Oct. 3) after his dogs were allegedly involved in a fatal attack that left a neighbor’s small dog dead. It has now also been revealed that his grandmother was briefly detained during the investigation.

According to Fulton County court records, an arrest warrant for the R&B singer was issued on Sept. 22. Bodycam footage obtained by TMZ captured officers conducting a search of Gibson’s property that same day, during which his grandmother was temporarily placed in the back of a police vehicle.

Gibson was charged with cruelty to animals, taken into custody, and later released on a $20,000 bond.

The incident occurred on Sept. 18, when Gibson’s four Cane Corso dogs were reportedly seen roaming his Atlanta neighborhood before allegedly fatally attacking a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Henry. Harrison Parker, Henry’s owner, told Good Morning America that he let his dog out for a quick bathroom break around 10 p.m. and found him lifeless in the driveway just minutes later.

“The pack of those four dogs were there minutes before I found Henry’s body,” Parker said. “There was absolutely no cars, no humans, just the dogs. And he was dead. And the fact he died like that alone in the darkness at night and I wasn’t there… it’s just horrible.”

A police report detailed the attack, noting that Henry had broken ribs, internal bleeding, and puncture wounds. Security footage allegedly captured Gibson’s dogs running toward the property just before the attack. Another neighbor had also called animal control that evening to report the Cane Corsos blocking her from leaving her home.

According to the American Kennel Club, Cane Corsos are “smart, trainable, and of noble bearing,” but stresses that proper socialization and training are essential. Gibson is reportedly cooperating fully with authorities as the investigation continues.

In the days that followed, Fulton County police and animal control visited Gibson’s home to retrieve the dogs. Gibson, who was not present at the time, reportedly told officers over the phone that he would need “a few days to figure out what to do” before surrendering them. Ultimately, Gibson rehomed his two adult dogs and their three puppies in safe, loving homes. Police reportedly took custody of his small Pomeranian, who he said “takes medication.”

According to the police report, Gibson acknowledged that his dogs were responsible and admitted there had been ongoing issues with them escaping the property. Through his attorney, Gabe Banks of Banks Weaver Law Firm, Tyrese issued a formal statement extending condolences to the Parker family and accepting responsibility for his dogs.

“On behalf of my client, Mr. Tyrese Gibson, we wish to extend our deepest condolences to the family who lost their beloved dog in this tragic incident,” Banks said. “Tyrese’s heart is truly broken, and he has been praying for the family constantly, hoping they may one day find it in their hearts to forgive him. While he was out of town when the incident occurred, he accepts full responsibility for his dogs. The liability of keeping them was simply too great, and he could not bear the thought of anything like this ever happening again.”

Gibson also addressed the tragedy directly on Instagram. “After nearly 40 years of being a passionate dog lover—raising everything from Pomeranians, Yorkies, Shih Tzus, Maltese, to larger breeds like Shar Peis—my dogs have only ever been treated as family,” he wrote. “They’ve never been trained to harm, never spent a single day in attack or protection training, and they’ve grown up playing with kids and smaller dogs in my home. That’s why this incident has left me shocked, devastated, and heartbroken for the family affected.”

“As an empath, my heart hurts deeply for their unimaginable loss, and I’ve been trying to reach out directly to express my sorrow and condolences,” he expressed.

Gibson also made it clear that he was not at his residence during the time of the attack because he was still grieving with his family over the recent loss of his father. “I’m here in LA with my family, still mourning the loss of my father just 15 days ago,” he explained. “To the family who lost their beloved pet: please know that I am praying for you, grieving with you, and will continue to face this tragedy with honesty, responsibility, and compassion.”

The 46-year-old also clarified misinformation circulating online: “Please note: The blogs and the media are using images of Cane Corso dogs that are NOT my actual dogs to paint a very different picture…. This is not about me. This is about the family that’s dealing with a very unexpected tragedy. I just wanted to post this and give some clarity… May the Lord Jesus Christ continue to cover their family and my family—no one wanted or expected to wake up to any of this.”

Court records show this wasn’t the first time Gibson’s dogs had been an issue. A Fulton County police captain noted the Cane Corsos had been seen roaming freely at least five times in recent months, and Gibson had received a warning earlier in September. He had also been notified about needing a special permit for owning more than 10 dogs, though the current number of dogs in his care is unclear.

RLJE Films has revealed the official trailer for a movie called Muzzle: City of Wolves, a surprise sequel to the movie Muzzle from 2023. Did anyone know about this? Did anyone even watch that original movie? Muzzle: City of Wolves is a direct sequel – introducing a new dog named Argos as his partner. Haunted ex-K-9 officer Jake’s peaceful life is shattered when a gang brutally attacks his family. With his new K-9 partner Argos, he uncovers a drug ring, confronts corrupt officials involved in it, and fights inner demons all the while pursuing the criminals. Of course he does! A sequel to 2023’s Muzzle, the action-thriller stars Aaron Eckhart, Tanya van Graan, and Karl Thaning. Directed again by John Stalberg Jr., opening in theaters this November. At least the doggie in this looks like he’s a real champion. But the rest? Exceptionally cliche.

“In a city divided, they fight for the truth.” Take down the AI! Studiocanal has unveiled an official trailer for the film titled Dog 51, a sci-fi thriller by French filmmaker Cédric Jimenez. It just premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival and also played at TIFF, with a release in France starting in October. In the near future, Paris is divided into three zones that separate social classes, and no one can escape ALMA, a predictive AI that has revolutionised law enforcement. When ALMA’s creator is assassinated, Salia, a top agent, and Zem, a jaded cop, are forced to work together to solve a murder that may expose the dark secrets of the system they serve. The movie is the third in Jimenez’s trilogy about cops – with BAC Nord and Novembre. Starring Gilles Lellouche, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Louis Garrel, Romain Duris, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Artus, Lala &ce, Stéphane Bak, and Thomas Bangalter (!!). This reminds me of I, Robot and Minority Report in many ways – very similar premise, very similar ideas about Artificial Intelligence. I can appreciate the world building in this, looks big and flashy and thrilling. Keep an eye out for it in US theaters eventually.

Dog 51, also known as Chien 51 in French, is directed by French filmmaker Cédric Jimenez, director of the films Paris Under Watch, The Connection, The Man with the Iron Heart, and The Stronghold (aka BAC Nord), and November previously. The screenplay is by Olivier Demangel and Cédric Jimenez; based on the novel written by Laurent Gaudé. Produced by Hugo Sélignac. This initially premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival recently. In wellness discourse, a balanced diet is a hot topic, and for all the good reasons. Nutritional deficiencies and health issues pop up when you don’t follow a nutritionally sufficient diet. Omega-3 fatty acids, probiotics are some of the most talked about components in the diet. But besides your health, do you know your furry friends too benefit from these nutrients? For your pet’s diet, it’s time to go beyond generic store-bought nutrition and take a closer look at their nutrition gap.

In fact, in the early days of a puppy or kitten, they suffer from something called ‘immunity gap.’ Addressing more about this issue seen in pets, Dr Vishal Dangle, Scientific Communications Manager, and in-house Vet at Royal Canin, shared with HT Lifestyle that young puppies are vulnerable after they wean off.

This is particularly important to know for pet parents whose pets recently birthed younglings. Or those who have adopted very young puppies or kittens.

Dr Dangle talked about how immunity becomes vulnerable. “Much like in human babies, a pet’s immune system is shaped in the starting stages of life, but the right pet care and diet play an essential role in this process.”

Immunity gap

How does this immunity gap happen? He explained, “At birth, puppies and kittens receive passive immunity through their mother’s milk, particularly colostrum, which provides vital antibodies required for a strengthened immune system. However, once they wean off at 4 weeks old, they transition into a critical period where they are most vulnerable to infectious diseases. This period is also called the immunity gap, and it lasts up to 12 weeks of age.”

So, during their early weeks, their immune system is still developing, making them prone to infections and health issues. The vet suggested vaccinations can build this immunity. And even after the initial phase is over and the puppy is growing, growing pets need a more robust nutritional plan so that they build a good immune, defence system against diseases.

For your growing pet, following a proper nutrition plan is vital. The balanced diet ideally should cover all the macros, like proteins and micronutrients, like vitamins, are important. So you need to broaden your horizon, check the food labels or maybe even make some yourself.

Dr Vishal Dangle shared, “One of them (nutrients) is high-quality protein, which fuels the production of immune cells and antibodies. Aside from this, Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA &DHA, help support brain and immune development. Antioxidants like vitamin C and E, lutein, and taurine are also vital as they combat oxidative stress, while zinc and selenium play direct roles in immune cell function.”

Gut health’s important for your furry companion too. “Prebiotics and probiotics are equally important for a healthy gut. Since a significant portion of immune activity takes place in the gut, fostering a healthy microbiome is crucial. These nutrients support digestive health, improve nutrient absorption, and help the body distinguish between harmful and beneficial microbes,” Dr Dangle elaborated on the importance of gut-friendly foods for growing puppies and kittens.

The film is directed by Brazilian director Diego Freitas, and features a famous dog as the main actor. A chef and a caramel-colored mutt become best friends after a life-changing encounter. On an emotional journey, they will laugh and cry together, and also teach us valuable lessons. The film stars Rafael Vitti as Pedro and the canine star named Amendoim. The first film with Brazil’s iconic mutt dog, Caramelo is a drama that will make you both laugh and get emotional by celebrating the unique bond of companionship between pets and humans. The cast also includes Arianne Botelho, Noemia Oliveira, Ademara, Kelzy Ecard, Bruno Vinicius, Roger Gobeth, & Olívia Araújo, plus a special appearance by chef Paola Carosella.
