Deadline reports that if the film maintains this pace, it could surpass the $40 million opening mark, aligning with earlier projections. The film’s debut comes at a time when Hollywood’s fall box office has seen mixed results. Despite the overall season ahead of last year by about 2% with a gross of over $674 million, audience turnout for star-studded adult dramas such as Dwayne Johnson’s The Smashing Machine and Margot Robbie’s A Big Bold Beautiful Journey has been underwhelming.

Tron: Ares Rotten Tomatoes score

Starring Jared Leto and directed by Joachim Rønning, Tron: Ares has seen a positive reception from the audience. It holds an 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes. This is a significant jump from the 64% earned by 2010’s Tron: Legacy. Still, competition looms large, with both the MLB playoffs and NFL games drawing male viewers away from theaters this weekend.

Tron: Ares outpaced the 2010 movie Tron: Legacy in terms of midnight previews, though it trails behind recent fan-favorite reboots such as Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes ($6.6 million) and Alien: Romulus ($6.5 million). Advance ticket sales were at $7 million, similar to Alien: Romulus, which opened at $42 million.

Living Single‘s Kim Coles costars as the Wilson Hall Academy of the Arts’ Dean Merriweather, with Jiwon Lee as Vee’s perky roommate Sophie and Milo Maharlika as Demi, a 600-year-old ghost sent by Vee’s parents to keep a spectral eye on Vee. The entire season will begin streaming on Disney+ on October 15, with the first single (“Slay”) available today.

But reality (as in reality TV) sets in when she discovers the show is actually set in Paris, Texas. This being a romcom, you won’t be surprised to learn that the cowboy bootcamp has an upside: the bachelor himself, a hunky hayseed named Trey (Pierson Fodé) who takes a shine to Dawn.

EXCLUSIVE: The Musica filmmaker will helm Disney’s long-awaited comedy Bob the Musical.

The original musical comedy—long regarded as one of Hollywood’s most intriguing “in-development” projects—has been in the works for over a decade at the studio. The story follows Bob, an ordinary man whose worst nightmare becomes reality when he wakes up to discover that he’s trapped in a full-blown musical. Kristen Burr and Tripp Vinson are producing.

Rudy Mancuso is a multi-hyphenate filmmaker. Musica, which he starred in with Camila Mendes, made its world premiere at 2024’s SXSW and was named one of the New York Time‘s Critics Picks and is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 96% score. Mancuso directed, co-wrote, starred, and composed the music for the film, which Wonderland produced. A self-taught musician, Mancuso has released five singles, opened for Justin Bieber in his native Brazil on the Purpose World Tour, performed at the Hollywood Bowl for Disney Pixar’s Coco Live-To-Film Concert Experience while also incorporating song and instrumentation into his YouTube videos. As a director, he’s created two stunning single-take music videos for Lele Pons’ “Celoso” and “Bloqueo” as well as “Stories From Our Future,” a collaboration with Netflix. Mancuso is repped by WME, Range and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
