Drake, Beyoncé, and Lil Wayne Producer Omen Dies at 49

Sidney Brown, the producer and DJ who worked with the likes of Drake, Beyoncé, and Lil Wayne under the name Omen, has died. Brown was found in his Harlem, New York apartment on Saturday, September 13, by his sister, Nicole Iris Brown. “He was holistic and healthy. So we don’t know of him being sick, so this is all pretty sudden,” she said in a statement to NBC News. Brown was 49.

Born in Harlem in 1976, Brown produced for artists in the Roc-A-Fella Records orbit throughout the late ’90s and early ’00s. He worked on Memphis Bleek’s Coming of Age, Mýa’s Moodring, and Fabolous’ Street Dreams, among others. Brown also composed the score for Paper Soldiers, the 2002 rap comedy produced by Roc-A-Fella’s film studio that gave Kevin Hart his big-screen debut.

In 2006, Brown made the beat for “Tell It Like It Is” from Ludacris’ Release Therapy, which won Best Rap Album at the 2007 Grammy Awards. A few years later, he met Drake through Noah “40” Shebib, and ended up co-producing “Shut It Down,” a The-Dream duet off the Canadian rapper’s 2010 debut Thank Me Later. Brown and Shebib would reunite on Lil Wayne’s “I’m Single” and again on “Mine,” Beyoncé’s own Drake duet from her 2013 self-titled album.

Brown’s last credited work as a producer was on Action Bronson’s 2015 LP Mr. Wonderful, though he continued to DJ at local bars and restaurants. “I hope people will remember that he was willing to help the younger generation,” his sister told NBC. “He was always big on helping younger people start their careers and get themselves into the game. It was about just the music, no matter who the artist was.”

At the Gates’ Tomas Lindberg Dies at 52

by jummy84 September 16, 2025
written by jummy84

Tomas Lindberg, the lead singer of the Swedish death metal band At the Gates, died “this morning following complications related to his ongoing cancer treatment,” his bandmates wrote on social media. “You were an inspiration to us all,” they added. “A true friend, both compassionate and sympathetic. You will always be remembered for your generosity and your creative spirit.” Lindberg was 52 years old.

Born in Gothenburg, Sweden, Lindberg came up in the city’s metal scene, trading tapes with fellow teenagers and designing the logo for Norwegian band Darkthrone. He adopted the pseudonym Goatspell upon joining his first band, Grotesque, who helped spearhead Gothenberg’s emerging death metal scene in the late 1980s. He co-founded At the Gates in 1990, and the band’s 1992 debut, The Red in the Sky Is Ours, became a death metal landmark, twisting wiry melodies into the genre’s backbone of piston riffs and bludgeoning rhythms.

In 1995, the band’s fourth album in as many years, Slaughter of the Soul, elevated At the Gates’ status both at home—alongside Stockholm compatriots like Entombed and Dismember—and internationally, where fans were drawn in by Lindberg’s surrealist, scream-along lyrics and the band’s labyrinthine songwriting. Adulation and influence ensued, but At the Gates’ whirlwind first phase was coming to an end. The band parted ways in 1996, primarily citing burnout, and Lindberg side-quested with an array of extreme-music voyagers including Lock Up, Disfear, Skitsystem, and the Great Deceiver.

At the Gates reunited for a tour in 2007 and embarked upon a second era as a studio band in 2014. They have since released three albums: At War With Reality, To Drink From the Night Itself, and The Nightmare of Being. Lindberg remained a friendly presence in the heavy-music world and taught social studies in a Gothenberg middle school during respites from touring.

Last month, At the Gates and Lindberg told fans that the singer was diagnosed, in December 2023, with adenoid cystic carcinoma, a rare cancer that was detected in his mouth. Lindberg said he underwent surgery to remove “a big part of the roof of the mouth” and also had two months of radiation therapy, but remains of the cancer were found early this year. A day before going in for surgery, he recorded all the vocals for a new At the Gates album, the statement noted.

The End Of An Era: Rick Davies, Supertramp’s Voice And Piano, Dies At 81 | Glamsham.com

The music community is in shock over the death of Rick Davies, the iconic keyboardist, singer, and co-founder of the legendary British progressive rock band Supertramp. Davies died on Saturday, September 6, aged 81 after a long fight with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer.

A Voice and Sound That Defined an Era

In a heartfelt tribute posted on Sunday through Supertramp’s social media, the band honored Davies’ massive contributions. “His soulful voice and distinctive touch on the Wurlitzer became the heartbeat of the band’s sound,” the tribute stated. With his gritty vocals and blues-infused keyboard playing, Davies co-wrote some of Supertramp’s most iconic songs with Roger Hodgson, leaving a lasting impact on 1970s rock music.

From Swindon to Global Stardom

He was born in Swindon, England. Davies started his music career late in the 1960s. Davies put an ad in Melody Maker seeking musicians after his previous band The Joint folded — a publicity move that brought him Roger Hodgson and Supertramp with Dutch millionaire Stanley “Sam” Miesegaes as their financial sponsor.

Although their initial two albums were reasonably successful, it was with their third album, Crime of the Century (1974), that they were catapulted into the limelight. Singles such as Dreamer, Rudy, and Bloody Well Right brought Davies’ unique musical voice into the limelight.

Farewell Rick Davies, founding member of Supertramp.

A Timeless Musical Legacy

Supertramp reached their peak with 1979’s Breakfast in America, which included such classics as The Logical Song, Goodbye Stranger, and Take the Long Way Home. Off the stage, Davies was warm, witty, and committed to his wife Sue, whom he loved for more than 50 years.

Later in his life, he played locally for Ricky and the Rockets, remaining close to his passion for music. “Great songs never die—they live on,” the band’s tribute finished.

Sir Richard Branson has been left “deeply saddened” after executive sous chef Sihle Somdaka died in a buggy crash on his Caribbean retreat Necker Island.

Sir Richard Branson has been left ‘deeply saddened’ after executive sous chef Sihle Somdaka died in a buggy crash on his Caribbean retreat Necker Island

The 75-year-old entrepreneur was not on the island at the time of the incident but has been in close contact with staff and the chef’s family, according to reports.

Sihle, aged 37 and originally from Cape Town, South Africa, was found fatally injured late on Friday (29.08.25) after apparently losing control of an electric buggy shortly after leaving a farewell party at the island’s Great House.

A source told The Sun: “Sir Richard wasn’t on the island when the incident occurred but has been in close contact with the family and the Necker Island team.”

They added the billionaire was “deeply saddened” by the tragedy.

The crash took place just before midnight, as Sihle drove down a steep hillside in one of the resort’s buggies.

Island medics attempted CPR before a doctor was flown in from neighbouring Moskito Island.

He was then transported by boat to Peebles Hospital on Tortola, where he was pronounced dead from a head injury.

Police in the British Virgin Islands have launched a full investigation into the circumstances of the crash. A source told The Sun staff on Necker Island are working closely with local authorities to establish what happened.

Another insider alleged there had been “a culture of excess” at the luxury resort.

They said: “They’ve had very many close shaves and near misses over the years… it was only a matter of time, but it should never have happened.”

Sihle was described as a rising star in the culinary world.

The father-of-two had worked in high-end restaurants across the Middle East, including in Doha and Kuwait, before securing a position on Branson’s £95,000-a-night private island.

Days before his death, Sihle shared images on social media of himself enjoying the beaches and jet skis at Necker Island, captioning one photograph: “Caribbean life.”

Angel Batista Dies and Dexter Trapped

by jummy84 August 29, 2025
written by jummy84

[The following post contains MAJOR spoilers for Dexter: Resurrection Episode 9, “Touched By an Angel.”]

Pour one out for Angel Batista (David Zayas). In Dexter: Resurrection‘s newest episode, Miami Metro’s very finest finally found a captive audience for his theories on Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), but unfortunately for him, it was the worst one possible.

The episode began where the last one left off, with Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage) dropping in on Dexter’s dinner with Harrison (Jack Alcott). Though Dexter quickly asked Leon to step outside to talk to him, the billionaire genius still got a few key details out of Dexter’s son before doing so. Outside, Prater promised to leave Harrison alone in exchange for Dexter giving him a truthful one-on-one about every detail of his life — all while Batista was looking on from a distance and snapping photos of them together.

After that, Dexter and Harrison exited through the back of the building in a panic, and Dexter was forced to tell Harrison the full truth about Prater’s serial killer club meetings and how he took out select members of it. Instead of being horrified, Harrison was almost impressed that he could count the Gemini Killer(s) as victims.

Harrison then went to work while Dexter made amends with Blessing (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine) and arranged for him to pick Harrison up from work at the end of the day. However, it wasn’t safe for Harrison at the hotel; instead, Charley (Uma Thurman) showed up there and asked him a slew of questions about his past. Harrison answered them in an honest yet guarded enough way to protect his father and then immediately reported it all back to him, prompting Dexter to pay Charley’s own place a little visit. There, he found that she had an infirm mother and a background as a decorated military veteran.

Dexter then used his Dark Passenger gear to get a word in with Charley in her car, wherein she explained that it was Prater’s call for her to investigate Harrison and that he used her mother’s illness as a way to control her. By the time Dexter let her go, he felt confident that she wouldn’t be a problem for him and Harrison anymore, but that was decidedly not the case.

Charley reported her visit with “Red” directly back to Prater, and he was enthralled by the sight of her neck wound from his instrument. “He was sending me a message. You were the message,” he said. “The real message is I’m still in charge, the Dark Passenger is mine, and more importantly, he wants to continue to play with us.” Dexter then called to arrange a meeting, alone, and Prater agreed to see him before his big gala.

At the same time, Angel was busy trying to convince Detectives Claudette Wallace (Kadia Saraf) and Melvin Oliva (Dominic Fumusa) of his story, again, but they were not convinced. They asked for his badge, at the request of Miami Metro no less, and sent him on his way once again. On the way out, though, Angel saw an ad for the gala with Prater’s picture on it and recognized it from the exchange he witnessed outside before.

Angel then headed to Prater’s place and, after a tussle with some of his lower security guards, got the attention of Charley. From there, he was taken to Prater’s office to explain, and unlike the detectives before, this time, they believed him.

So when Dexter arrived for his appointment with Prater, it was clear he was walking into a trap. It wasn’t a cavalry of police that awaited him, however. Instead, Prater was joined by Charley, who disarmed Dexter and took away his phone before ushering him into the vault, where Angel was tied up and gagged. Prater then revelled in knowing he was talking to the Bay Harbor Butcher and offered him a deal: Prater’s killer club could continue, but in a different way, with him summoning mass murderers from across the land to come to his lair, after which Dexter could do what he wanted with all of them. The “price of admission,” as he put it, was to take out Angel right then and there.

The offer had to be attractive to Dexter, as he noted, “Angel Batista has threatened my life, my son’s life. Now that he’s confirmed who I am beyond the shadow of a doubt, he will never give up, and rule number one is, ‘Don’t get caught.’” However, Dexter used his knife to free Angel, who then began to choke him out right then and there, and Dexter was momentarily resigned to the poetry of dying at the hands of a lifelong friend. The attack was interrupted when Leon shot Angel in the back and ran away with Charley, effectively locking Dexter in the vault without hope of exit. He rushed over to help Angel, but there was no chance of saving him.

Dexter tried to tell Angel that he didn’t kill James Doakes (Erik King) or Maria LaGuerta (Lauren Vélez), but Angel gave him no absolution on the matter. “It’s your fault,” he said. “And now I’m dying because you, just like they did.” After Dexter apologized sincerely, Batista used his final breath to say simply, “Dexter Morgan, f**k you.”

With that, another long chapter in the saga of Dexter Morgan has closed. Angel finally knew the whole truth about Dexter, and it cost him his life. It seems unlikely that his disappearance will raise any red flags right away, since the NY detectives told him to get lost, and even his colleagues in Miami don’t seem too concerned with him right now.

Dexter is still far from in the clear, though. Now, he’s trapped in the vault and in full enmity mode with Leon Prater. We’ll have to wait and see whether he can use that “gee-whiz smile,” as Angel put it, to get himself out of trouble again in next week’s finale.
