The school wrote in a post on Instagram, “We mourn the loss of Elden Campbell, our all-time leading scorer, All-American and three-time All-ACC player, who passed away at the age of 57.”

Drafted 27th overall by Los Angeles Lakers in the 1990 NBA Draft, he spent the better part of a decade with them before stints with other teams — ultimately winning an NBA championship with Detroit Pistons in 2004.

“Beyond his contributions on the court, Elden’s calm presence and warm personality made him beloved by teammates, fans, and the community alike,” the Pistons said in a statement on December 3, 2025. “Our hearts and prayers are with Elden’s family and friends during this difficult time.”

Died After Surgical Blade Was Left Inside Him

The state of South Carolina has reportedly paid $1 million to the estate of Jeffrey Alan Fulcher, a man who died after a surgical blade was left inside his body during a cancer procedure.

According to KBTX, in January 2022, Jeffrey Alana Fulcher was diagnosed with “localized carcinoma in the lower part of his esophagus.” Subsequently, he was reportedly referred to the Medical University of South Carolina to undergo treatment.

Per a lawsuit, Fulcher responded initially well to the treatment. Then, in June of that year, he reportedly underwent a “minimally invasive procedure to remove part of his esophagus.” However, at some point during the procedure, a “Thompson retractor blade fell into or was placed inside” Fulcher’s abdominal cavity. Furthermore, his medical provider “failed to see or remove the retractor blade.” Ultimately, Fulcher’s abdominal cavity was closed with the blade still inside. Per KBTX, additional staff also reported that all instruments used during the surgery had been accounted for.

South Carolina Reportedly Pays $1M To His Estate

The following day, Jeffrey Alana Fulcher reportedly informed the doctors of his pain. However, doctors believed he was recovering well. By June 19, 2022, he had visibly declined, per his family, his “heart rate was over 100,” and the surgical blade “eventually perforated his colon.”

After his “oxygen saturation level dropped” and his “abdomen was distended,” medical tests and X-rays were ordered. Ultimately, Fulcher’s doctor discovered the surgical blade, believing it would only require a “quick twenty-minute” removal. By the time Fulcher went back into surgery, he was reportedly in septic shock. Ultimately, doctors removed his entire colon. However, Fulcher passed away on June 21, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. Furthermore, his cause of death was listed as “sepsis, peritonitis, colonic perforation, and a retained surgical instrument in the abdomen from initial esophageal surgery.”

The subsequent lawsuit noted the failures and neglect of the Medical University of South Carolina. Per KBTX,  “because the hospital is associated with the state, the state insurance fund paid Fulcher’s estate $1 million.”

Outside Of The Death Of Jeffrey Alan Fulche, Another Surgical Procedure Also Led To A Tragic Headline

Outside of the botched surgery and subsequent death of Jeffrey Alan Fulcher, another surgery has also made tragic headlines. As The Shade Room previously reported, last month, Alicia Stone, a mother of three and NYPD detective, underwent BBL surgery in Colombia. Furthermore, a week into her recovery, Stone was discovered unresponsive and taken to a hospital.

Ultimately, Stone was pronounced dead, and her husband went public to the media, asserting that “something” wasn’t “adding up” about what happened to his wife.

THIS WAS THE GREATEST MAN TO LIVE ON THIS EARTH! The love and compassion he had is unmatched.”

Heard’s daughter added that her late father “came to everyone with LOVE and touch soooo many lives [sic]!” calling herself a “blessed girl so blessed to have him as MY DAD!”

“This is so hard for us as a family but this too shall pass and we will grow stronger,” she added. “I just know my dad is up in glory having an amazing time. I love you daddy ima see you again dont worry about me [sic].”

Some of you may know him as a content creator of many sorts, he was a life coach as a well as a pastor,” Augustus wrote alongside a gallery of Heard, including one of him that appeared to be taken from a hospital. “I’ve known him for years and got news this morning that he died from [an] asthma attack that led to a heart attack that led to him being brain dead. As shocked as I am about this news I also know this is one man who lived his life as freely and fully as possible so I have no doubts that he has transitioned without many regrets!”

Toward the end of his caption, Augustus added that So DebNair, Heard’s partner, informed him of the “Yes King” creator’s death. “Light & Love to his family and his ex-husband @SoDebNair​, who broke the news to me this morning! MAN! Life is literally crazy!” Augustus further claimed that Heard’s daughter “provided” images of him in the hospital.

In DebNair’s own Instagram tribute, he referred to Heard as his husband and shared a picture of them kissing. “My heart is so broken, I don’t have alot of words but my husband passing away is insane. Thank you to everyone for reaching out. If you know, you know. I’ll miss him forever.”

Liam Payne, the English singer and former One Direction star, tragically died at the age of 31, multiple outlets confirmed on October 16, 2024. His sudden death in Buenos Aires sent shockwaves through the music world and among devoted fans who had followed his journey since The X Factor. Payne, who had been staying at the CasaSur Hotel in Palermo, reportedly fell from a third-floor balcony, and authorities later confirmed that he died from multiple traumatic injuries.

How Did Liam Payne Die?

According to multiple outlets, local authorities in Buenos Aires, Argentina, responded to an emergency call, and Payne was found dead after having fallen from his hotel’s third-floor room. Reuters reported that police in the Palermo neighborhood were called in response to an “aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs and alcohol.” The outlet also reported that emergency responders found Payne dead in the hotel’s interior patio.

Buenos Aires emergency services chief Alberto Crescenti explained how responders tried to resuscitate Liam and pointed out that he had a “cranial fracture” after he fell, according to La Nacion.

“Our role was to head there quickly, give medical attention, and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life,” Crescenti said. “Based on what the team saw, there was apparently a cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death. The team could do absolutely nothing. There was no resuscitation because it was confirmed that he had died. The whole body had very serious injuries.”

In January 2025, Liam’s cause of death was revealed to be from polytrauma, according to multiple outlets. Polytrauma refers to multiple traumatic injuries in a person’s body.

According to a press release from the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office on February 25, 2025, Liam’s blood alcohol level (BAC) was 0.27 percent at the time of his death. Per E! News, his level was “three times” the legal driving limit in the United States, which is 0.08 percent.

It turned out that Frehley’s fall was actually more serious. On October 6, a separate statement was released on his Instagram page, which read, “Due to some ongoing medical issues, Ace has made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of his 2025 dates.”

Frehley died about 10 days later.

The Annie Hall actress passed away on 11 October at the age of 79 and her family have now revealed her cause of death in a new statement, in which they thanked fans for their “extraordinary” messages of support.

Diane’s family told People magazine: “The Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11.”

The family suggested those who wanted to pay tribute to the Godfather star could make a donation to one of her favourite causes.

They added: “She loved her animals and she was steadfast in her support of the unhoused community, so any donations in her memory to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her.”

It was previously reported that Diane’s health had “declined very suddenly” before her death.

A source told People magazine: “She declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her.

“It was so unexpected, especially for someone with such strength and spirit.

“In her final months, she was surrounded only by her closest family, who chose to keep things very private. Even longtime friends weren’t fully aware of what was happening.”

In March, Diane put her “dream home” in Brentwood, California, up for sale, despite previously vowing to stay there forever, and she was no longer regularly seen in the area walking her dogs.

Another source said: “She lived in Brentwood for many years.

“She loved her neighbourhood. Up until just a few months ago, she’d walk her dog every day. She was usually dressed the same, with a hat and her signature sunglasses regardless of the weather.

“She was always very nice, funny and chatty. She’d talk to her dog like he was a person. She was eccentric and had this old-school Hollywood aura. She was very, very special.”

A pal remembered the First Wives Club star as “one in million” who was “funny right up until the end”.

The friend said: “She lived exactly how she wanted to, which was on her own terms, surrounded by the people and things she really loved…

“Diane always had a very strong sense of who she was and how she wanted to live.

“In these last few years, she kept a close circle and she liked it that way. She was funny right up until the end and she had this way of making even ordinary moments feel special. That was just who she was.”

Diane never married but is survived by her adopted children, daughter Dexter, 29, and son Duke, 25.
