Ima Robot Unearth Lost 2000s LP ‘Search and Destroy’

Early 2000s band Ima Robot has unearthed a lost album from that time period, Search and Destroy, which will finally see the light of day Nov. 14 through Community Music. The title track is out now and can be sampled below.

Founded by future Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros frontman Alex Ebert in the late 1990s, Ima Robot eventually signed with Virgin Records for its 2003 self-titled debut. The album pricked up the ears of adventurous listeners thanks to its au courant blend of jittery indie rock and more dance-leaning music, but was not commercially successful beyond a core group of devoted fans.

“I hope it inspires people to remember that not everything has to be the same,” Ebert told SPIN at the time of the album’s release. “You can do different things and you can be fresh and you can listen to fresh music and things don’t have to stay in one area, you know? We all get into ruts where we forget that things can be different. The only comments I’ve ever seen are like, ‘not only did they pull from this band and that band, but they also pull from this little-known band,’ and I have no idea who these bands are. Never heard of them. No idea. It’s kind of cool for me because I get to build up my record collection that way. I like to call our music high-clash because to me, it’s elevated. It’s not metal meets rap. To me, it’s just everything all across the board.”

In the wake of the debut, Ima Robot wrote a wealth of songs while preparing for its second album, many of which were pressed in extremely limited quantities as Search and Destroy and sold at a handful of 2006 shows — much to the chagrin of Virgin.

“Never uploaded online nor formally distributed, it might have disappeared entirely if not for the dedication of a devoted few Robot heads who preserved its traces,” reads a new band bio about the project. “Today, echoes of that fervor endure with original CDs fetching hundreds of dollars on MusicStack and other resell sites, a testament to the enduring allure and quiet obsession the record inspired.”

“In a lot of ways, this stuff sounds like the original Ima Robot, the pre-signed fuck-it,” Ebert says now. “There’s a lightness to the whole thing. It feels more like the original concept, a reclaiming of the initial vibe.”

Ima Robot has been inactive since 2011, while Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros have only played live on a handful of occasions since 2016.

Check out On Repeat Song Lyrics by Ty Dolla $ign

Hell yeah, the feelin’ was good, I put that ho on repeat
Walk in the store with the bands, yeah, I’ma need the receipt (Oh)
Hell yeah, I’m smokin’ that gas, premium 93 (Oh)
I’m swervin’, I’m doin’ the dash, yeah, we still in the lead (Oh, yeah)

Might buy you a bust down, I just might take you to Greece
I put the bitch on fleek (Woo), I put the bitch on E
I put the bitch on D’s, I bought her new titties (Wee)
I put her wrist on freeze, top down, feelin’ the breeze

Drown the bitch with the water-water
Murder scene like Law & Ordеr
Drive the Lam’ like a stolеn Charger (Skrrt)
In the Rolls, used to ride the model

These niggas my son, I’m their father (Yeah)
I spent a rack on a barber (Woah)
I get my weed from the farmer (Yeah)
I jumped in the Lambo’, my Honda

Yeah
Paint on her face, Mona Lisa
Big dog, I don’t smoke no shisha
My bitch bad, but she rollin’ up reefer (Yeah)

B*tch, I’m a thug, not a preacher
I charge you one-fifty a feature
I’m f*ckin’ this foreign lil’ eater
She tryna extend her lil’ Visa

Hell yeah, the feelin’ was good, I put that ho on repeat
Walk in the store with the bands, yeah, I’ma need the receipt (Oh)
Hell yeah, I’m smokin’ that gas, premium 93 (Oh)
I’m swervin’, I’m doin’ the dash, yeah, we still in the lead (Oh, yeah)

The vibe I’m showin’ my ex lil’ bitch, I’m geekin’ up, I can’t even function
Yeah, back on drank, I’m sorry, shawty, if I’m mad at ya
I been goin’ brazy, sixty days in the ‘yo, my dog, I’m trappin’
I been pushin’ the Lambo’, goin’ one-twenty-four, I can’t go backwards (S-shu-shu-shut up the dance)
I make the cash flip, don’t use a spatula (Right now)
Yeah, I take a bad bitch, upgrade her attraction (Attraction, huh)

Huh, I made a bag, backend, spendin’ it faster, woah-woah-woah
Uh, all this cash, you ain’t even gotta ask me, woo-woo-woo

Hell yeah, the feelin’ was good, I put that ho on repeat
Walk in the store with the bands, yeah, I’ma need the receipt (Oh)
Hell yeah, I’m smokin’ that gas, premium 93 (Oh)
I’m swervin’, I’m doin’ the dash, yeah, we still in the lead (Oh, yeah)

John Higgins was a member of the famous comedy trio known as Please Don’t Destroy: a group of writers featured on Saturday Night Live. While the funny gang isn’t ending, they are going through a breakup since John announced his departure ahead of season 51 of SNL amid a cast shakeup.

“I can’t believe how lucky I was to be a part of this show,” John wrote in an emotional Instagram post in September 2025. “It was my dream, and I got to live it. And to do it with my two best friends and my dad was an unbelievable experience. Thank you to everyone who made my time there so special, it made this decision that much harder. But for now, I’m excited to pursue acting opportunities that I’ll announce soon, but today, I’m just grateful for everything we got to do.”

In true comedian fashion, John added a witty comment to his statement, which read, “As that fat lil bear Winnie the Pooh once said, ‘How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.’”

Below, Hollywood Life has rounded up five facts about John, his career and his future after leaving Please Don’t Destroy.

John Higgins Is From New Jersey

A Montclair, New Jersey, native, John attended Montclair Kimberley Academy, a private pre-K through 12th grade school. He then attended New York University and obtained a degree in English from the College of Arts & Sciences.

John Higgins Has a Dad who Works for SNL: Steve Higgins

Thanks to John’s dad, Steve Higgins, he learned the ropes at SNL. Steve has worked as a writer and producer for the sketch comedy series since 1995, and he’s the sidekick at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

John Higgins’ Family Is Famous

Apart from his dad, John’s other family members are in the entertainment biz. His uncles are Malcolm in the Middle alum David Anthony Higgins and Late Night with David Letterman alum Chris Elliot.

John Higgins Is Married to a Fellow Comedian

Keeping comedy in the family, John is married to his wife, fellow comedian Emily Wilson, per her Instagram.

John Higgins Has Appeared in Movies

Outside of Please Don’t Destroy and SNL, John has landed a few acting gigs over the years. He starred in the Tom Hanks-led film A Man Called Otto and the indie movie The Country Club.

Please Don’t Destroy Splits as John Higgins Leaves SNL

Please Don’t Destroy will no longer be operating as a trio on Saturday Night Live, as John Higgins has announced his decision to leave the show, where he’s been working as a writer since 2021. The other two PDD members, Ben Marshall and Martin Herlihy, will remain with the series — Marshall moving to a featured player role in the cast, while Herlihy will continue as a writer.

On Instagram, Higgins explained his decision to leave the show to focus on acting, saying that:

“I can’t believe how lucky I was to be a part of this show. It was my dream and I got to live it. And to do it with my two best friends and my dad was an unbelievable experience. Thank you to everyone who made my time there so special, it made this decision that much harder. But for now, I’m excited to pursue acting opportunities that I’ll announce soon but today I’m just grateful for everything we got to do. As that fat lil bear Winnie the Pooh once said, “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”

Vulture reports that this doesn’t mean the end for Please Don’t Destroy as a group, with the three comedians continuing their current tour together as well as developing new movie ideas. Their first film, Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain, premiered on Peacock in 2023.

This news comes as the latest update on the SNL Season 51 cast, which has so far seen Heidi Gardner, Michael Longfellow, Emil Wakim, and Devon Walker exit while four new fresh faces join as featured players alongside Marshall. For now, let’s look back on PDD’s now-final SNL sketch from the Season 50 finale, featuring Scarlett Johansson and Bad Bunny.
