Rashmika Mandanna opens up on work-life balance amid Deepika Padukone’s 8-hour shift demand: ‘I overwork, don’t do it’

by jummy84 October 28, 2025
written by jummy84

For the last few weeks, actor Rashmika Mandanna has been in the news for her engagement to Vijay Deverakonda and her recently released film Thamma. But now the beauty is busy gearing up for her next movie, The Girlfriend. Recently, producer Sreenivasa Kumar praised Rashmika’s work ethic, claiming that she never imposed any work-hour restrictions. This statement came amid the controversial debate about work timings which rose after Deepika Padukone’s alleged 8-hour shift demand for Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit. Well, Rashmika has now shared her thoughts on work-life balance, explaining the importance of not ‘overworking’.

Rashmika Mandanna and Deepika Padukone

Some time back Rashmika Mandanna mentioned that it has been months since she got a full 8-hour sleep. Referring to the same, when asked about work-life balance, Rashmika told Gulte, “I think us glorifying the fact that we overwork is not good. I overwork, and I’m telling you, it’s highly not suggestible. Don’t do it. It’s not sustainable. Don’t do it. Do what is comfortable for you, do what is right for you. Get those 8 hours, get those 9-10 hours also because trust me that’s going to save you in the later ages. As in, I have seen a lot of these conversations recently where people are like ‘okay, you know, work timing’ and all of that. I’ve done it both. And I’m telling you, this is not worth it. As in, of course, it’s a responsibility that you have. I tend to overwork myself because I take on so much more than a normal human being can and should. But I’m also not someone who will tell my teams that I can’t do something for them. If I know that they are struggling and they’re like ‘no we have this location only till now and we have to shoot so much in this time’ and all of that, I understand and I’ll give in.”

When director Rahul Ravindran said ‘It’s almost everyday in cinema’, Rashmika agreed and explained, “Yeah, that’s almost every day in cinema. And that’s the love and respect I have for my teams. But if I could choose for myself, I would say ‘please don’t make us actors do that, because there’s a lot that’s going on’. Not even actors. Directors, lightmen, music, everyone, just have, like you know how office time is 9 to 6 or 9 to 5 or 9 to 4, let us have that. Because there’s still a family life that I want to focus on, there’s still my sleep that I want to get in, I still want to work out so, you know, later on I’m not regretting that I wish I was, you know, healthy and fit and working out when I was younger. I’m still thinking about my future. But right now I don’t have a say because I’m taking on too much on myself.”

What are your thoughts on the ongoing shift debate in the film industry?

Deepika Padukone gets support from Pakistani actor Iqra Aziz amid debate around 8-hour shift demand: ‘As long as she…’

Pakistani actor Iqra Aziz has voiced her support for Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone amid the ongoing debate over eight-hour work shifts in the Indian film industry. The discussion gained momentum after reports surfaced that Deepika had exited two major projects: Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit and the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, reportedly because she requested an eight-hour workday.

Deepika Padukone has been in the news for exiting two films this year: Kalki 2898 AD sequel and Spirit.

Iqra Aziz supports Deepika

Recently, Deepika addressed the controversy surrounding her request for an eight-hour workday. In an interview with CNBC-TV18, the actor pointed out that male superstars have been following the same eight-hour schedule for years, yet it has “never made headlines.”

Iqra took to Instagram to come forward and support Deepika, who welcomed her daughter Dua last year. Iqra wrote a note for Deepika on her Instagram Stories while sharing a clip of Deepika’s interview on the same.

She wrote, “The emphasis isn’t on the 8-hour shift, but on her perceived demanding nature. A mother striving for work-life balance should be supported. As long as she meets her commitments, her colleagues should be team players and respect her time,” Iqra added.

Apart from Iqra, filmmaker Hansal Mehta also took to social media to weigh in on the ongoing debate around the eight-hour work shift system in the film industry.

“In our line of work, a 12-hour day is politely called a “shift.” The truth is, between the chaos of shoots, the endless commute, hurried meals and barely a few hours of broken sleep, there’s little left of us. Where does our mental health or physical well-being fit into this equation?,” Hansal wrote on X, adding, “The normalisation of 12-hour working days feels exploitative. It should be the exception, not the standard.”

What did Deepika say on the stir

Lately, Deepika has been in the spotlight for exiting Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, reportedly over her request for an 8-hour workday. She has also stepped away from Kalki 2898 AD, with the makers stating that the project demands a “higher level of commitment”.

In the interview with CNBC-TV18, Deepika reacted when she was told she was facing a lot of pushback for her decision. She said, “By virtue of being a woman, if that’s coming across as being pushy or whatever, then so be it. But it is no secret that a lot of superstars, male superstars, in the Indian film industry, have been working for eight hours for years, and it’s never made headlines.”

“I don’t want to take names now and make this into a whole thing, but it is very commonly, publicly known that a lot of male actors have been working for eight hours a day for years. A lot of them only work for eight hours Monday to Friday. They do not work on weekends,” she added.

She also described the film industry as “very disorganised”, adding that she thinks “it’s time we brought in some system into this culture.”

Deepika Padukone Breaks Silence on Her 8-hour Workday Demand

by jummy84 October 11, 2025
written by jummy84

Actress Deepika Padukone has spoken out after discussions emerged about her decision to request an eight-hour working day on sets, following her exit from Spirit and the Kalki 2898 AD sequel. In an interview with CNBC-TV18, she addressed the criticism and explained her reasoning behind the move.
Deepika noted that male actors in the Indian film industry have long been working similar schedules, but it has not drawn much attention. “By virtue of being a woman, if that’s coming across as being pushy or whatever, then so be it. But it is no secret that a lot of superstars, male superstars, in the Indian film industry, have been working for eight hours for years, and it’s never made headlines,” she said.

She added that many male actors work eight hours a day, Monday to Friday, often without working on weekends. “I don’t want to take names now and make this into a whole thing, but it is very commonly, publicly known that a lot of male actors have been working for eight hours a day for years,” Deepika explained.
Speaking about the larger industry, she reflected on its working culture. “Even though the Indian film industry is termed as an industry, we have never really worked like an industry. It is a very disorganised industry. I think it’s time we brought in some system into this culture,” she said.

Deepika exited Spirit reportedly because her request to limit her working hours so she could spend time with her daughter, Dua, was not met. Soon after, Vyjayanthi Movies confirmed that she would no longer be part of the Kalki 2898 AD sequel, noting that the decision followed “careful consideration” and that a film like Kalki requires a high level of “commitment.”
On the work front, Deepika has already started shooting for Siddharth Anand’s King, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Suhana Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan. She will also appear in Atlee’s upcoming project AA22xA6 alongside Allu Arjun. With these projects lined up, Deepika is moving forward while emphasizing the importance of structured work hours and balance in the industry, a conversation that continues to resonate with both actors and audiences.

Speaking with CNBC-TV18, Deepika shared how “male superstars” have been doing an 8-hour shift for years, but it “never made headlines.”

Deepika’s exit from Spirit, Kalki 2898 AD sequel

The actor found herself in a row after she exited Spirit, reportedly over wanting to work not more than eight hours a day during the shoot so that she could be with her daughter, Dua. However, her demands weren’t met, and she exited the film.

Recently, Vyjayanthi Movies announced that she is no longer a part of the Kalki 2898 AD sequel. In their statement, they said that they decided to part ways with Deepika after “careful consideration,” adding that a film like Kalki deserves a higher level of “commitment.”

About Deepika’s upcoming films

Deepika began her shooting for King just a few days after her exit from the Kalki 2898 AD sequel. Directed by Siddharth Anand, King stars Shah Rukh Khan, Suhana Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan, among others. Deepika will star in Atlee’s upcoming film AA22xA6 alongside Allu Arjun.

Rani Mukerji weighs in on flexible work hours amid Deepika Padukone’s 8hr-shift demand: ‘When Adira was 14 month old…’

As the film industry continues to discuss Deepika Padukone’s reported request for an eight-hour workday, a demand said to have led to her exit from Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and starring Prabhas, actor Rani Mukerji has weighed in with her perspective, drawing from her own experience of balancing career and motherhood.

Rani Mukerji noted that while flexibility in working hours is essential, the pressure on women remains significantly different from their male counterparts.

Rani recalled her schedule when Adira was a toddler

Speaking to ANI, Rani recalled the filming of her 2018 movie Hichki, which took place when her daughter Adira was just 14 months old.

“When I did Hichki, Adira was 14 months old, and I was still breastfeeding her. I had to pump the milk and leave early in the morning to shoot at a college in town. From my home in Juhu to the shoot location, it would take almost two hours due to traffic. So I’d leave by 6:30 a.m. after expressing milk. My first shot was at 8 a.m., and I’d wrap up by 12:30 or 1 p.m. My team and director were very organised. I’d reach home by 3 p.m., before the traffic worsened. That’s how I completed the film.”

She stressed that conversations around flexible working hours in cinema aren’t new but are gaining visibility today because they’re being publicly acknowledged. Rani also highlighted the double standards faced by women in the industry, pointing out that female actors often have to pause or adapt their careers after motherhood, while their male counterparts rarely face the same expectations.

Rani talks about juggling work with motherhood

“These things have always existed. It’s just that now people are openly talking about it. In any profession, if the producer agrees to shorter hours, you go ahead with the project. If not, you opt out. It’s a mutual choice; nothing is forced. Men don’t have to go through a physical transformation. Women, on the other hand, go through both physical and emotional changes after becoming mothers. But I’m very happy being a woman,” she said.

Rani Mukerji recently earned the Best Actress award at the 71st National Film Awards for her performance in Mrs Chatterjee vs. Norway. The film, based on the real-life story of Sagarika Chakraborty, follows a mother’s emotional and legal battle to reclaim her children from the Norwegian foster care system.

Deepika, on the other hand, is busy shooting Shah Rukh Khan’s King which also stars Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Arshad Warsi.

Raj Kapoor’s Jaw-Dropping Demand For His Debut Film: Madhubala, The 13-Year-Old Beauty! | Glamsham.com

Even before he grew up to become Indian cinema’s iconic showman Raj Kapoor, the adolescence of Raj was one of rebellion and restlessness. Raj, as an inquisitive and reckless teenager, troubled his father, the great Prithviraj Kapoor, with his interests in the city’s red-light district and his lack of interest in studies. It was a period that tried the patience of his father, who was lost himself about how to punish or counsel his son.

It was at this pivotal point that director Kidar Sharma entered Raj’s life as mentor and guardian. In a candid ancient interview with Prasar Bharti, Sharma described how he came to be involved with Raj for the first time. “Prithviraj Kapoor, my friend, was greatly disturbed with his son. He said to me, ‘My son has reached his teens, and he wants to learn everything about birds and bees.”. He has dropped studies, and he’s getting very uncontrollable. I can’t raise my hand on him, I don’t know what to do.’ I said to him, ‘Leave the boy with me; I will put him in order like a schoolmaster.’

Raj Kapoor joined Sharma’s film crew as a third assistant, a job that consisted of doing menial things such as carrying the clapboard. But even in that minor role, his vanity was evident. Sharma remembered how often Raj would pick up the camera lens and use it as a mirror rather than working. Sharma finally lost his cool after being warned several times and slapped Raj on the face. “My Punjabi blood was boiling,” he said. To Sharma’s surprise, Raj didn’t fight back or flee — he smiled and walked away.

The very next day, Sharma noticed something in Raj that made him turn around. Seeing the boy’s actual talent was in acting and not behind the camera, Sharma proposed to give the lead role to him in Neel Kamal. He even advanced Raj ₹5,000. Overwhelmed with the gesture, Raj cried and said to Sharma, “Don’t you know, kindness hurts most? Why are you being so kind to me? I am useless, I will spoil your film and you.”

Sharma pacified him and inquired whom he desired as his heroine. Raj whispered to him that he desired a beautiful one — namely, the young daughter of a Pathaan — Madhubala. Although only 13 at the time, she was taken on, and the beginning of a cinematic timelessness was created.

Kate Bush announces ‘The Best Of Other Sides’ due to fan demand

by jummy84 September 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Kate Bush has announced that she will be releasing ‘The Best Of Other Sides’ after massive fan demand.

Set to arrive digitally on Friday (September 26) and on CD and vinyl on October 31 via Fish People, the release comes following significant demand from those who were unable to access the original release of ‘The Other Sides’.

That compilation album was shared back in 2018 as part of a definitive remastering project, and had a setlist comprised of B-sides and extra tracks that had never appeared on an album.

The tracklist for that album included new 12” mixes of ‘Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)’, ‘The Big Sky’, ‘Cloudbusting’, ‘Hounds of Love’, and ‘Experiment IV’. B-sides included 1989’s ‘Walk Straight Down The Middle’, 1993’s ‘You Want Alchemy’, 1989’s ‘Be Kind To My Mistakes’, 1985’s ‘Under The Ivy’, 1982’s ‘Ne T’enfuis Pas’, and ‘Lyra’, which was taken from The Golden Compass Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.

Other B-sides were ‘Burning Bridge’, ‘Un Baiser d’Enfant’, ‘Home For Christmas’, ‘I’m Still Waiting’ and many more.

The album charted at Number 18 in the UK, and is now no longer available. However, due to fan demand, a ‘Best Of’ version of the LP will be on the way. The exact setlist is set to be shared soon, although it has been confirmed that three of the songs have been remastered for the release.

You can visit here to pre-order the album.

In other Kate Bush news, the iconic singer announced the release of a self-directed animated short film called Little Shrew earlier this summer.

The film focuses on a pygmy shrew in a “war-torn city” as a metaphor for children in war, and will be soundtracked by Bush’s song ‘Snowflake’ from her 2011 album ‘50 Words For Snow‘.

As well as working on that project and releasing ‘Best Of The Other Sides’, Bush has also been teasing her return to writing music, and said last year she was “very keen” to start working on new material.

When announcing Little Shrew back in October 2024, Bush spoke about the possibility of working on new music, sharing: “I’ve got lots of ideas and I’m really looking forward to getting back into that creative space, it’s been a long time,” she said.

Asked if it was something she had been hoping to do for a while, Bush replied: “Yes it is, really. Particularly the last year, I’ve felt really ready to start doing something new.”

As for the hopes of some live appearances being announced, David Gilmour said last autumn that there is only one person capable of getting Kate Bush to perform again – herself.

The Pink Floyd legend was an instrumental force in Bush’s early career, having come across demo tapes she made as a teenager thanks to mutual friend Ricky Hopper. He helped with the financing of recording of a more professional demo, and secured Bush a contract with EMI. Since the start, Bush has always been reluctant to perform live, and has only joined Gilmour on stage twice in both 1987 and 2002.

Indian models demand fair treatment and respect

by jummy84 August 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Updated on: Aug 27, 2025 11:34 am IST

After Kirandeep Chahal’s viral call out post, models and show directors speak about claims of backstage mistreatment at fashion shows.

Model Kirandeep Chahal recently called out the backstage treatment of models, adding that she wouldn’t be doing anymore shows in India. A regular at Milan and Paris Fashion Week, she highlighted the stark contrast between how models are treated in the West: “My recent experience backstage in India has been really disheartening, the way choreographers speak to models, the lack of basic respect… it takes the joy away.” Her post resonated across the industry, with several models thanking her for voicing an issue they’ve long faced but feared speaking out about. We dive deep into the issue and speak to show directors and models.

After model Kirandeep Chahal’s viral post on Indian models being disrespected backstage, more models have come out to share their stories on social media.

Kirandeep was rudely spoken to during a recent show rehearsal by one of the show directors, which left her in tears. “I saw it happening to not just with me, but also my fellow models. I teared up because of the experience and had a full-blown anxiety attack. It can’t happen again and again. So many models have texted me that they did a show for the first time and never did it again because of the rude behaviour by some choreographers. When I did my first international show with Dior, everyone there was so understanding. The models here in India can’t be treated like this during show rehearsals,” she says.

However, every story has two sides, and show director Anu Ahuja took to her Instagram to share her side of the story.

Speaking to us she said, “It’s really important to define disrespect. We work under very stressful timelines and high-pressure environment backstage. It may happen that because of the pressure, the show director’s tone might get irritable or snap at someone, but that doesn’t mean you’re abusive. Why does no one ask what behaviour or circumstances brought them to be irritable? We don’t mean any disrespect to anyone. But it’s all forgotten after the show and we all often sit have a drink and laugh about it later. It’s also important not to judge people until you wear their shoes and understand what they go through. This new trend of calling out people publicly and maligning their reputation without ever hearing the other side of the story, is so irresponsible.”

Model Sonalika Sahay feels that the disrespect and mistreatment towards models has increased over the years. “ I see that models sometimes are treated like kindergarten kids backstage. Imagine we have 17-18-year old guys and girls who also participate in the shows. And if they are being shouted at for small mistakes they make, it only leaves them to rethink their career as ramp models. You can’t become rude to someone because you are under pressure.”

Show director Aparna Bahl Bedi shares how they can make models feel safe and respected. “The relationship between a model and a choreographer is built on discipline, collaboration, mutual respect and trust. Words are a powerful tool and have to be used correctly. But your action too speaks louder than your words and one has to keep it in mind.”

Male model Adarsh Raj pointed out that disrespect is not only because of the backstage team’s rude behaviour but also because of the unreasonable call time during ramp shows. “If the call time for rehearsals is at 9 am, the models are called at 6 am and made to wait unnecessarily. This is certainly not a good practice as the models get drained by the time the actual show happens in the evening and end up making mistakes on the ramp, ” he says.
