‘Harry Potter’ Series Is ‘Such a Delightful Adaptation’: HBO Max Exec

HBO‘s upcoming “Harry Potter” series is shaping up to be “such a delightful adaptation” of J.K. Rowling’s books, according to HBO Max head of original content Sarah Aubrey.

Speaking on a panel at Content London on Wednesday, Aubrey revealed that she is visiting the set of the series tomorrow. “I just keep thinking, it’s such a delightful adaptation of the books,” she teased. “And I think when people watch it, they [will] think, ‘These are the books.’”

Aubrey added that the series is a great representation of the U.K. industry as a whole. “It’s created by a British writer, it’s directed by a British filmmaker and its craftspeople are the best that this country has to offer,” she said. “I’m so excited for everyone to see it.”

Aubrey’s keynote at Content London came just hours after HBO Max announced a Jan. 13 launch date for the streamer in territories including Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein. During her presentation, Aubrey spoke about the original content HBO Max has in the pipeline in those countries, including German production “4 Blocks Zero,” which she called a “fantastic, gritty thriller,” and Marco Bellocchio’s Italian series “Portobello,” which she said “swept the festival circuit.”

More to come…

“Delightful” film starring late Dame Maggie Smith to air on TV tonight

A “delightful” film starring Maggie Smith alongside a cast of other incredible British actors will be airing on TV tonight.

Quartet was released in 2012 and follows Smith’s character Jean Horton, a former famous opera singer who is moving into Beecham House, a retirement home for those who were once singers and musicians. Jean’s arrival throws the home into disarray due to the fact her former husband Reginald, played by Tom Courtenay, already lives there and is furious he wasn’t warned about her arrival.

As she settles in, the other residents convince Jean to take part in their yearly concert, where they will be doing a performance of the Bella figlia dell’amore quartet from Rigoletto, however she is apprehensive, fearing her voice is not what it used to be. The film offers a comedic insight into ageing, mortality and the power of music.

Those looking to tune in can do so tonight (Friday 28th November) on BBC Two at 11pm with a running time of 94 minutes and will be uploaded to BBC iPlayer shortly after. However, you can also find the film on Prime Video, and it is also available to watch on Sky Cinema.

The film also starred Sheridan Smith as the home’s doctor, with the actress recently opening up about her experience working with the late Maggie Smith during an appearance on The One Show.

She explained: “I was a bag of nerves. There were all these absolute legends, I was so out of my depth, and [Dame Maggie Smith] saw me kind of nearly having a panic attack before this scene, and she just went, ‘Smiths stick together!’”

Quartet was the directorial debut from Hollywood actor Dustin Hoffman and made $59.5 million at the box office against a budget of $11 million.

Those who have seen it ushered their praise of the feature length, saying: “Dustin Hoffman’s first film as a director is a treat for the actors involved, and what actors they are. Hoffman has cast his actors in roles that fit them well and they reward him with fine performances.

“It’s a delightful film that touches on themes of ageing and the enduring importance of art. And the film’s location, Hedsor House in Buckinghamshire, plays a character in its own right, adding splendour to the warmth.”

Alongside both Smiths and Courtenay, the star-studded cast also boosts the likes of Scottish royalty Billy Connolly, Dumbledore actor Michael Gambon, and Pauline Collins of Upstairs, Downstairs fame.

“You were the only one who could see the real me.” GKids has unveiled another new official US trailer for Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, also known as just Little Amélie, a beautiful animated film from France. This is the English dub version of the trailer (original here). From directors Maïlys Vallade and Liane-Cho Han, Amélie et la métaphysique des tubes (the original title) is the story of Amélie, a Belgian girl living in Japan, who adores nature and all the spectacular granduer of the outdoors. The story explores her young life with her companion Nishio-san, a caretaker for the family. Her third birthday becomes a turning point, marking the beginning of life-altering events that will shape her understanding of the world she exists in. The original French language voices are by Emmylou Homs, Loïse Charpentier, Laetitia Coryn, Yumi Fujimori, and Isaac Schoumsky. I’m a huge fan of this film (and quoted in this trailer). I first saw it at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and it really left me in awe – it really is stunningly beautiful. About a little girl growing up and appreciating the natural world and learning about all the beauty, even if humans can be rotten or mean. The funniest part is when she tries Belgian white chocolate and everything changes.

You can rewatch the original language trailer for Little Amélie right here or the intial festival trailer here.

Follows the young Amélie – born in Japan to Belgian parents – as she navigates an extraordinary early childhood. For the first two-and-a-half years of her life, she exists in a state of pure sensation, detached from typical human experiences – metaphorically described as “a digestive tube, inert and vegetative”. But on her third birthday, a transformative event awakens her to the world. Over the next six months, she discovers language, family, a heavenly garden, Japan, water, the changing seasons and the passage of time. Drawing on the Japanese belief that children are considered divine until the age of three, the film explores how this brief period, filled with joy & sorrow, is a foundational element in shaping her identity.

Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, originally known as Amélie et la métaphysique des tubes in French, is co-directed by filmmakers Liane-Cho Han Jin Kuang (animator on The Illusionist, Long Way North, Ethel & Ernest, Calamity a Childhood of Martha Jane Cannary) & Mailys Vallade (of The Lighthouse Keeper short, artist on Calamity a Childhood of Martha Jane Cannary), making their feature directorial debut with this project. The screenplay is written by Liane-Cho Han Jin Kuang, Eddine Noël, Aude Py, and Mailys Vallade. Adapted from the book written by Amélie Nothomb. Produced by Claire La Combe, Edwina Liard, Henri Magalon, and Nidia Santiago. This first premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year (read our review) and it’s next playing TIFF this month before release. GKids will debut Little Amélie or the Character of Rain in US theaters nationwide starting November 7th, 2025 late this fall. Beautiful?
