Aftershock 2025 Fest Shakes Sacramento with blink-182, Deftones, Korn, BMTH

The 2025 Aftershock festival took place in Sacramento from Thursday, October 2nd, through Sunday, October 5th. Stretching four days and spread out on four stages, this year’s festival once again had something for everyone, as Danny Wimmer Presents continues to expand and diversify the lineup. Although the weather went from pouring rain to unseasonably warm in the blink of an eye, that didn’t stop festival-goers from enjoying every minute of the festival.

Day 1 was headlined by pop-punk stalwarts blink-182, who last topped the bill at Aftershock in 2019. They were the band that most people came to see, and they did not disappoint, playing a 90-minute, 22-song set, highlighted by a cover of Descendents’ “Hope.” Good Charlotte closed out the Shockwave stage right before blink-182, while other highlights from the day included High on Fire, Testament, and the recently reunited Acid Bath, who drew a huge audience over on the Coors Light stage.

Deftones headlined Day 2, playing a near two-hour set to their hometown, and had the grounds around the Aftershock stage jam-packed. Highlights included “Digital Bath,” “Hole in the Earth” and “Around the Fur,” but it was “Cherry Waves” that had the fans most pumped up. A Perfect Circle had the audience singing along to every word, while Lamb of God also drew a massive crowd, delivering the live debut of their new single “Sepsis.” Turnstile and Knocked Loose brought the hardcore to Aftershock, while Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson’s set was among the other highlights of the day.

Day 3 was headlined by Korn, who were, as always, one of the most anticipated bands of the entire festival. They played an electrifying set for their fans, some of whom were waiting up against the barricade all day in the sweltering sun. Gojira were another highlight on the Aftershock stage, while other standouts included Scowl, Spy, Slaughter to Prevail, and Trash Talk.

The fourth and final day of Aftershock saw Machine Head, In This Moment, and Mudvayne play before big crowds in the beating sun, but it was festival closers Bring Me the Horizon who were the main attraction. The UK band played a near 90-minute set which saw them run through 15 songs, including anthems like “Shadow Moses” and “Throne.”

By the time it was all said and done, Aftershock once again showed why it’s become the West Coast’s biggest hard rock and metal festival. Every year. the organizers seem to pull off something even bigger and better than the previous year, and with the rumors already starting to circulate about next year, it looks like the 2026 edition is not to be missed.

It Was “Mind-Blowing” When Madonna Gave Deftones Her Approval

Deftones were one of the earliest signings to Maverick Records, the label co-founded by Madonna. Looking back on that time, frontman Chino Moreno admits it was “mind-blowing” to get the pop superstar’s seal of approval.

The Deftones singer discussed the band’s interactions with Madonna in a new interview with The Irish Times. As he recalled, “It was [A&R rep] Guy [Oseary] who discovered us first, and then he and [Maverick co-founder] Freddy DeMann flew us from our base in Sacramento to Los Angeles, where we played a couple of songs for them in a little rehearsal space.”

Moreno continued, “That same day we were invited to the record-label offices in Beverly Hills, where I got to meet Madonna, which was mind-blowing. So, yeah, she definitely gave us the thumbs-up. It was crazy to be a 20-year-old kid and have somebody whose music I’ve been listening to since I was 10 years old give us her approval. It was hard to take in.”

As for Madonna’s input into Deftones’ music, Moreno said she “wasn’t as hands-on as maybe you would think. In no way was she dictating our creative direction or anything like that, and, in general, the label let us be us.”

The Material Girl has attended a number of Deftones concerts over the years, with Moreno noting, “They were a little nerve-wrenching, because you knew she was watching you… One of the biggest artists in the world knew who we were. It was awesome and very, very cool.”

Deftones remained on Maverick Records from 1995 through 2006. Maverick went defunct in 2009, and Deftones have been releasing their music through Warner Music’s Reprise Records ever since.

The band’s latest album is Private Music, which arrived last month. Deftones are currently supporting the LP with a North American tour (pick up tickets here), with dates running through September 19th show in Atlanta, followed by festival appearances at Louder Than Life, Aftershock, and their own Dia De Los Deftones.

Deftones Debut New Songs At Vancouver Tour Opener

On the eve of the release of their new album, private music, Deftones debuted three new songs from it last night (Aug. 22) at their fall tour opener in Vancouver. The Chino Moreno-led group also dedicated another rarity to late Mastodon member Brent Hinds, who died this week in an Atlanta motorcycle crash.

Deftones unveiled “my mind is a mountain,” “infinite source” and “milk of the madonna” in Vancouver, a day after airing them for the first time during an audience-free livestream. About halfway through the set, they dusted off “Entombed,” a song from the 2012 album Koi no Yokan that hadn’t been played live since 2017.

Moreno told the audience they were playing the song in honor of “a very dear friend” in Hinds, who with Mastodon toured in tandem with Deftones and Alice in Chains back in 2010. During the encore, Deftones also played “Engine No. 9” from 1995’s Adrenaline for the first time this year.

private music is expected to score a high debut on the Billboard 200 this coming week. Deftones are supporting it on the road throughout the fall at a mix of headlining shows and appearances at such festivals as Louder Than Life in Louisville, Ky., and Aftershock in their Sacramento, Ca., hometown.

The group will also host its annual Dia De Los Deftones blowout on Nov. 1 at San Diego’s Petco Park in tandem with Clipse, Rico Nasty and Deafheaven. A European run will follow early next tear.

Deftones’ New Album ‘Private Music’ Has Arrived: Listen

Deftones‘ Private Music is private music no longer, with the rock band dropping its 10th studio album on Friday (Aug. 21) for all the world to hear after more than a month of buildup.

Led by singles “My Mind Is a Mountain” and “Milk of the Madonna,” Private Music features 11 tracks total. The rest of the tracklist features “Locked Club,” “Ecdysis,” “Infinite Source,” “Souvenir” “Cxz,” “I Think About You All the Time,” “Cut Hands,” “~Metal Dream” and “Departing the Body.”

Recorded and produced in part in Malibu and Joshua Tree in California, the project marks the bandmates’ first full-length since 2020’s Ohms. Peaking at No. 5, the latter became Deftones’ sixth top 10 hit on the Billboard 200.

The release of Private Music comes about six weeks after the rockers first announced the album, sharing its simplistic cover art — an albino snake curled up on a bright green surface — on social media and writing simply, “private music | out august 22.” That same day, Deftones dropped “My Mind Is a Mountain,” with “Milk of Madonna” arriving about one month later.

The band has since been getting fans ready for the long-awaited new record by hosting a string of private listening parties leading up to Private Music‘s release. The sessions took place Aug. 19-21 in Amsterdam, Mexico City, Los Angeles, London, Melbourne, New York City, Sydney, Toronto, Vancouver,
Berlin, Paris and, of course, Deftones’ home city of Sacramento.

Before that, the band kicked off a North American headline tour that has already included shows at NYC’s famed Madison Square Garden and the Kia Forum in L.A. Next up, Deftones will play a string of dates in Canada — starting with a performance in Vancouver on Friday — followed by more shows in the U.S.
