Olivia Dean Makes SNL Debut, Dijon Announced For Next Month

by jummy84 November 16, 2025
written by jummy84

TikTok-viral soft-pop singer Olivia Dean made her debut on SNL last night in an episode hosted by fellow first-timer Glen Powell. Her sophomore album The Art Of Loving arrived in September, and she sang two songs from it, “Man I Need” and “Let Alone The One You Love.”

The episode was light on the music, but Powell did sing in the pre-taped music video “I Miss My Ex’s Dad” alongside Tommy Brennan and Ben Marshall (Powell played the father in question). Other notable moments included a surprise return from former cast member Will Forte in some new MacGruber pre-tapes poking fun at the Epstein files, during which Powell and Chloe Fineman played MacGruber’s partners.

In more SNL news, the show just announced details for their December 6 episode. Dijon will make his musical guest debut with returning host Melissa McCarthy. See highlights from last night below.

From Childhood Camcorder to Directorial Debut: Garrett Patten Rediscovers His Calling Behind the Camera

From Childhood Camcorder to Directorial Debut: Garrett Patten Rediscovers His Calling Behind the Camera

by jummy84 November 14, 2025
written by jummy84

The path to becoming a filmmaker rarely follows a straight line. For Garrett Patten, it started with his childhood Sony camcorder and love for creating. His path detoured through over a decade in the corporate world, but has now circled back to where it began. This time, however, with the seasoned perspective of someone who understands what he’s been missing.

Patten’s early experiments were humble: two-minute shorts cobbled together on outdated Adobe editing software. But those amateur projects planted the seeds to keep him rooted in filmmaking. He surrounded himself with fellow creatives and film students while studying at the University of Southern California. He had a successful run of careers outside of the industry, but knew his heart yearned to go back to what he’s always loved doing most.

“All in all, I love filmmaking in every form writing, directing, acting, editing,” Patten reflects. “It’s a complete expression of creativity, collaboration, and truth.”

That reunion with film required strategic reentry. Rather than rushing behind the camera, Patten approached his return as a producer, working alongside talented directors on projects including “Bandit” and “Die Alone.” The experience gave him an insider’s look into the logistics and artistry of directing. He then deepened his craft at Ivana Chubbuck’s renowned acting school, initially seeking to better direct actors but discovering an unexpected passion for performance itself.

Now, Patten brings both perspectives as director and actor to his debut short film “Self Custody,” co-directed with Fernando Ferro and written by Daniel McCann. The suspense thriller stars Odette Annable, Michael Monks, and UFC champion Henry Cejudo in a story exploring redemption, technology, and the devastating price of lost access in the digital age.

The premise emerged from the startling reality that an estimated 30 to 40 percent of all Bitcoin has been lost or stolen permanently. “The idea that someone could hold a fortune worth hundreds of millions of dollars on a single drive, with no backup, no bank, no safety net,” Patten explains. “It’s complete self-reliance but also complete isolation.” Often drawing from this balance of reliance and independence with his characters and story.

That duality extends to the film’s title, which operates on two levels. Beyond the cryptocurrency concept, “Self Custody” also describes the psychological imprisonment of being trapped within one’s own mind. “Both meanings mirror my character’s journey,” Patten notes. “He’s someone searching for control and in the process, he becomes his own prisoner. The title reflects that tension between freedom and isolation, power and loss.”

Patten’s preparation process involved months of living inside his character’s world, breaking down objectives, obstacles, and emotional triggers. “To get into that headspace, I drew from moments in my own life. It’s a process of letting go of yourself and allowing the character to take over,” he explains. The intensity of that immersion often left him mentally drained on set, but he views that exhaustion as evidence of full commitment. “When you fully surrender to the role, that’s when it starts to feel real. This role took me to emotional places I didn’t know I could go. When you fully commit to a character like this, it strips away a lot of what’s comfortable—and that’s where the real growth happens.”

Having completed post-production, “Self Custody” begins its film festival run this month. For Patten, not only is this project his debut as director and actor, but it represents rediscovering his childhood spark for filmmaking. This time, however, refined by years of experience and a hard-won understanding of what it means to be a versatile filmmaker.

Sometimes the longest route home teaches you the most about where you’re going.

Adele Making Acting Debut In Tom Ford Film

written by jummy84

Adele will make her acting debut in Cry to Heaven, an adaptation of the 1982 Anne Rice novel directed and produced by fashion maven Tom Ford. Production is underway in London and Rome, with a fall 2026 release in the offing.

Set in 18th century Venice amid a backdrop of opera, Cry to Heaven will also star Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Colin Firth, Paul Bettany and Mark Strong. It’d Ford’s third film, following the 2009 Oscar-nominated, Firth-starring A Single Man and 2016’s Nocturnal Animals.

Adele has kept a low profile since concluding a 10-show summer 2024 residency at Munich’s Sonderfreifläche Messe. The run sold more than 730,000 tickets, setting a new record for any concert residency outside of Las Vegas.

Afterwards, she told German broadcaster ZDF that she’d be taking a “big break” from performing. The U.K. superstar’s latest album, 2021’s 30, topped charts around the world and is certified for U.S. shipments of three million copies, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.

Adele to make acting debut in new Tom Ford movie with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Colin Firth, Nicholas Hoult and more

by jummy84 November 12, 2025
written by jummy84

Adele is set to make an acting debut in a new film from fashion designer Tom Ford.

The project will mark the third film from Ford, following on from 2009’s adaptation of Christopher Isherwood’s novel A Single Man, and the 2016 crime thriller Nocturnal Animals, which starred Amy Adams.

According to reports from Deadline, the upcoming movie will be an adaptation of the 1982 Anne Rice novel, Cry to Heaven. It follows an unlikely duo – a castrated maestro and a Venetian noble – who work together in the hopes of leaving their mark on the opera world.

The outlet reports that Adele is set to make her acting debut in the film, and she will star alongside huge names like Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Thandiwe Newton, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and 15-year-old Owen Cooper. The latter had his breakthrough earlier this year in Netflix’s drama series Adolescence, and went on to become the youngest male Emmy winner.

Adele is currently on hiatus from music after completing a huge residency in Las Vegas and playing a handful of sold-out shows in Munich last year. She has hinted at a shift to acting before, previously suggesting that she was going to take part in the 2018 film The Death and Life of John F Donovan.

Starring Game Of Thrones actor Kit Harington, the drama was written and directed by Xavier Dolan, who had worked with the singer before on the music video for her hit single, ‘Hello’.

“I’m sure I’ll get some flak for this, but I actually would like to act after working with Xavier… I would be in a film for him, definitely,” she said at the time (via The Guardian). She would later have her music feature in the soundtrack, but did not take on an acting role.

Tom Ford’s Cry To Heaven is reportedly in pre-production in London and Rome, with shooting set to begin in the new year. The movie is expected to arrive in cinemas later in 2026.

While the ‘Rolling In The Deep’ singer has not lined up any live performances since completing her residency shows, she did get fans talking back in February when she posted a video of her singing along to Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean’s performance at the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary concert.

Before then, she left Rachel Chinouriri speechless after sending a bouquet of flowers in congratulations of her BRIT Award nominations, and also “scared off” potential buyers of her former £6million mansion by claiming it was “haunted”.

More recently, Adele had one of her musical records broken by Taylor Swift, following the release of the latter’s ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’.

For the past decade, the London singer has held the record for largest opening week for an album, with her ‘25’ album debuting with 3.378million copies sold. In October, it was reported that ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ sold 3.5million album units in the US alone during its opening week.

Adele is slated to make her acting debut in the upcoming Tom Ford adaptation of Anne Rice’s 1982 novel Cry to Heaven. According to Deadline, Adele, 37, will join the star-studded cast of the movie that will also be written and produced by Ford through his Fade to Black production shingle.

Among those reportedly lined up to feature in the film set in 18th century Italy are: Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Ciarán Hinds, George MacKay, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Paul Bettany, Owen Cooper, Daniel Quinn-Toye, Hunter Schafer, Josephine Thiesen, Thandiwe Newton, Theodore Pellerin, Daryl McCormack, Cassian Bilton, Hauk Hannemann and Lux Pascal.

The film is reportedly in pre-production in London and Rome now, with principal photography set to begin in mid-January for a planned late fall 2026 release. At press time a spokesperson for Adele had not returned Billboard‘s request for confirmation on her debut film role.

The singer known for going off the radar between albums, has been quiet since completing her massive Weekends with Adele residency series in Munich, Germany in August 2024. Her most recent album was her fourth LP, 2021’s 30, which featured the songs “Easy On Me,” “Oh My God,” “Can I Get It” and “I Drink Wine.”

The Rice novel tells the tale of a Venetian nobleman and a castrati singer from Calabria who are both trying to make their names in the opera world. Director and fashion designer Ford has directed two other films to date, beginning with his debut, 2009’s period romance A Single Man about a gay British professor (Colin Firth) living in Los Angeles in the early 1960s.

He followed that with the acclaimed 2016 neo-noir thriller Nocturnal Animals starring Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon, Taylor-Johnson, Isla Fisher, Armie Hammer, Laura Linney and others in a story about an art gallery owner (Adams) who receives a manuscript for a novel written by her estranged ex-husband (Gyllenhaal) which appears to mirror their failed relationship. The latter won the 2016 Grand Jury prize at the Venice Film Festival and landed an Oscar nomination for Shannon for best supporting actor.

Refused members announce debut album as Backengrillen with menacing single ‘A Hate Inferior’

Members of Refused have launched a new project, Backengrillen, and announced their self-titled debut album. Listen to the single ‘A Hate Inferior’ below.

The Swedish hardcore punk outfit are due to play their final-ever live shows next month, following a recent run of last dates in the UK and Europe.

When announcing their farewell gigs, Refused revealed that a new group had “been born within the band”. Now, it’s been confirmed that Backengrillen will release their debut album on January 23, 2026 via Svart Records (pre-order here).

The experimental project features three out of four Refused members (singer Dennis Lyxzén, bassist Magnus Flagge and drummer David Sandström), as well as the non-Refused saxophonist Mats Gustafsson.

“Backengrillen’s music is a paean to chaos and destruction,” the band explained in a statement. “The basic idea is to take a death/doom metal, or noiserock riff and play it until it loses meaning and then break it apart like a ravenous cat would a tiny forest mouse.”

They went on to describe the LP as being “filled to the brim with the self-hatred endemic to the province of Västerbotten from whence the members hail”.

“The record was written on a Thursday during their first ever rehearsal, performed live on a Friday and recorded on a Saturday, so what you’re hearing is raw, stupid, gut instinct music played by seasoned purveyors of hardcore punk, metal, free jazz, noise et cetera,” the outfit continued.

Backengrillen confirmed that their second album was already “in the making”, describing it as “less stupid, more ugly”. They added: “Stay tuned and fuck the pigs.”

The band have previewed their five-track debut with a menacing 10-minute single, ‘A Hate Inferior’. Tune in above.

The tracklist for Backengrillen’s self-titled debut album is:

1. ‘A Hate Inferior’
2. ‘Dör För långsamt’
3. ‘Repeater II’
4. ‘Backengrillen’
5. ‘Socialism Or Barbarism’

Sandström had previously explained that the members wanted to be in “a band with no baggage, no fans to please, limited only by our wildest musical hopes and dreams”, adding: “We’re very excited about getting around to taming this new wild beast.”

Backengrillen previously played live together in early 2023.

Refused’s final-ever dates will take place in Sweden, with performances scheduled for Gothenburg, Norrköping, Stockholm and Umeå next month. These are set to follow a run of gigs in Australia.

Speaking to NME at Mad Cool 2025 this summer, Sandström explained: “We have other plans for our future, and Refused doesn’t fit in there.”

Lyxzén elaborated: “What we’re doing with Refused is very physical and quite demanding. I already feel like it’s pushing it. In 10 years, I’ll be 62, and that’s not a good look to try and prance around in tight pants.”

The band also discussed the future of the hardcore scene, and how featuring on The Bear’s soundtrack had won them some new fans. Watch the video interview in full below.

Refused’s winter 2026 Sweden dates are:

DECEMBER
11 – Gothenburg, Sweden – Pustervik (with Division Of Laura Lee and Spøgelse)
12 – Gothenburg, Sweden – Pustervik (with Rome Is Not A Town and Darla_
13 – Norrköping, Sweden – Arbis (with Fireside and Lost Faith)
17 – Stockholm, Sweden – Fallan (with Abhinanda and Twin Pigs)
18 – Stockholm, Sweden – Fallan (with Youth Code and Harrowed)
19 – Umeå, Sweden – Vaven (with Youth Code, Left Hand Of Darkness and Millencolin)
20 – Umeå, Sweden – Vaven (with Fireside, Mattias Alkberg, Top 10 Babies and Deppa)
21 – Umeå, Sweden – Vaven (with Abhinanda, Final Exit, Nix and Dream Warriors)

Kate Middleton Channels Princess Diana as Prince George Makes His Festival of Remembrance Debut

by jummy84 November 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Kate Middleton channelled Princess Diana in a black dress with a white frill collar as she brought Prince George to the Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall for the first time.

Making her first public appearance in three weeks, the Princess of Wales looked elegant in the black Alessandra Rich dress, which she wore with her favourite Scottish Silver Thistle Brooch and poppy pin. Rather than arriving on the arm of her husband, Prince William, Kate Middleton arrived with her son Prince George, 12, who looked smart in a suit and tie and dutifully shook hands as he arrived at the central London concert venue.

In a dramatic shift from her traditional all-black Remembrance ensembles, the Princess of Wales opted for the somber black dress with contrasting prairie collar. The outfit was reminiscent of one worn by Princess Diana at the 25th London Film Festival, although many of the late royal’s looked featured the distinctive oversized collar.

Middleton added sparkle with her Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings, which once belonged to Queen Elizabeth II. The Princess of Wales has worn the jewels on a number of previous occasions—and they have a fascinating history. The then Princess Elizabeth created from a cache of seven pearls, which she received as a wedding present in 1947 from the Hakim of Bahrain. The earrings are comprised of round diamond studs, from which are suspended round and baguette-cut diamonds in an Art Deco style, plus two of of the Bahrain pearls.

In the earl years of her marriage, the Queen wore these earrings often for gala occasions and official portraits, including one taken in the 1950s—when she teamed them with two other wedding presents, including the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara and the City of London Fringe Necklace. In 1982, the Queen loaned the earrings to Princess Diana, who appeared to like them just as much, often teaming them with Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara, which was another favourite.

It marked Prince George’s first appearance at a Remembrance event and a major moment in his preparation as a King-in-waiting.
