Kannada Filmmaker SS David Passes Away at 55

by jummy84 September 1, 2025
written by jummy84

The Kannada film industry is mourning the sudden loss of filmmaker SS David, whose work left a lasting mark on audiences with films like Jai Hind 1998 and Supari 2001. He passed away on Sunday evening at SS Hospital in RR Nagar, Bengaluru, after suffering a heart attack. Reports say he collapsed while on his way to a pharmacy, and despite being rushed to the hospital, doctors could not save him. His sudden passing at 55 has left fans, colleagues, and friends shocked and heartbroken.

David was more than a filmmaker. He had a gift for telling stories that stayed with people long after they left the theatre. Beyond directing, he wrote scripts for numerous Kannada films, including Police Story 1996, Agni IPS 1997, Dhairya 1997, Simhada Mari 1997, Hai Bangalore 1997, Independence Day 2000, Mandya 2006, Thirupathi 2006, and Police Story 2 2007. His stories were full of heart, his narratives kept audiences engaged, and his vision inspired everyone who worked with him. Colleagues remember him as humble, hardworking, and deeply passionate, someone who quietly encouraged others to give their best.

Even in his absence, David’s family could not be by his side. His sister, who lives in Kapu, Udupi, has requested that the final rites be carried out locally, as she is unable to travel. For now, his body has been moved to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru, where it will remain until arrangements are made. The police have said the body will not be released until family members provide guidance, leaving fans and friends anxiously waiting for closure.

SS David’s passing is not just the loss of a filmmaker but the loss of a kind, gentle soul who loved his craft and the people around him. His films and stories touched hearts, inspired peers, and entertained countless audiences. Those who knew him will remember his warmth, his humility, and the quiet dedication he brought to everything he did. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy will live on through his work and the memories he leaves behind, continuing to inspire and move the hearts of those who admired him.

Sphere’s Wizard of Oz Includes David Zaslav’s Face

by jummy84 August 29, 2025
written by jummy84

The classic 1933 movie The Wizard of Oz is filled with famous characters, like the Cowardly Lion, the Wicked Witch of the West, and of course Dorothy Gale herself. But if you go see the new immersive version at Las Vegas’ Sphere, there will be two new faces in the crowd: Sphere Entertainment Co. CEO James Dolan and Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav.

Dolan revealed this information to press during a walkthrough of the Wizard of Oz experience, which alters the original film to fit across the mammoth Sphere screen, while trimming the length of the film to allow for more daily viewings. It also replaces the faces of two characters in the movie with the faces of Dolan and Zaslav.

“I won’t tell you where, it’s only for like two seconds,” The Hollywood Reporter quotes Dolan saying. Visual effects specialist Ben Grossmann then clarified that the original characters were uncredited and “too blurry to be identified” on screen. (Munchkins, perhaps? Or residents of the Emerald City?)

Related Video

Dolan also noted to journalists that the Wizard of Oz project has gone way over budget, “getting up pretty close to that $100 million mark.” However, he added, “It was worth it.”

The use of AI to translate The Wizard of Oz to this massive screen has been controversial, as Consequence’s own Wren Graves recently explained. Yet with Wicked: For Good hitting theaters soon and a new live-action series about Dorothy in the works, L. Frank Baum’s classic stories remain in the public imagination.

Movie Producer David Brown Indicted in $12 Million Fraud

by jummy84 August 28, 2025
written by jummy84

Movie producer David Brown was arrested Wednesday on charges that he defrauded business partners out of $12 million by creating fake companies and using investor funds to pay his personal expenses.

Brown, 39, was indicted on 21 counts of wire fraud, money laundering and identity theft. Among other things, he is accused of setting up a company called Hollywood Covid Testing LLC and using it to bill productions for COVID tests that never occurred.

Prosecutors allege that Brown also swindled investors in real estate and film deals, using the money to buy a 2025 Mercedes Benz G-Wagon and a series of Teslas, a house for his mother, as well as to pay his mortgage, install a pool and a Subzero freezer, pay for private school tuition and to put $70,000 into surrogacy services.

He is also accused of diverting $970,263 in investor funds to an entity set up to make a film about Patty Hearst and her kidnapping by the Symbionese Liberation Army – a project that did not come to fruition.

Brown produced “The Fallout,” a 2021 film starring Jenna Ortega that won the grand jury award at South by Southwest. He is also listed as an executive producer on “The Apprentice,” the 2024 film about a young Donald Trump.

Last year, Brown announced the launch of the Screen Company, a production, sales and finance entity.

“I believe in the power of storytelling,” he said at the time. “Our mission is to provide reliable and flexible financing that brings extraordinary stories to life.”

Brown has been repeatedly sued by investors who accuse him of fraud. The Los Angeles Times extensively covered the allegations against him in 2023. Brown denied the allegations to the paper and said they were the result of misunderstandings.

Brown used to live in Sherman Oaks, but has since moved to South Carolina, where he was arrested Wednesday. He made an initial appearance in federal court and will later be arraigned in Los Angeles.

In addition to producing, he has worked as a unit production manager and a production accountant.

Ethan Hawke, Kyle MacLachlan, Keith David in ‘The Lowdown’ Trailer

“Now and again, he gets in over his head…” FX has unveiled an official trailer for a streaming series called The Lowdown, a Tulsa, Oklahoma thriller about a journalist who digs too deep into the underbelly of a dangerous local family. Created by filmmaker Sterlin Harjo of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma. Ethan Hawke stars as Lee Raybon. It follows the gritty exploits of citizen journalist Lee, a self-proclaimed Tulsa “truthstorian” whose obsession with the truth is always getting him into trouble… A determined bookstore owner in Tulsa moonlights as an investigative journalist, digging into local corruption. When his reporting uncovers sinister connections within, he must protect both his family and the truth. Lee has also gained the attention of a mysterious stranger who seems to appear whenever Lee least expects it: refined and suave, Marty shares Lee’s appreciation of great literary minds, and seems unusually interested in his investigation into the Washbergs. The ensemble features Keith David, Kyle MacLachlan, Kaniehtiio Horn, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Scott Shepherd, Siena East, Cody Lightning, Michael “Killer Mike” Render, Tim Blake Nelson, and Tracy Letts. Aside from the recent series “Tulsa King” also set in Tulsa, this also reminds me of the “Fargo” series. Though this looks much funnier than those two.

Here’s the main official trailer (+ poster) for FX’s thriller series The Lowdown, direct from YouTube:

The Lowdown Series Trailer

The Lowdown Poster

Lee (Ethan Hawke) lives and works in a rare bookstore tucked in the heart of Tulsa – a local refuge and unofficial community hub. While no idealist, he’s fiercely committed to exposing corruption & unearthing the city’s hidden rot, even when it puts him at risk. His sleuthing pulls him deep into Tulsa’s underbelly – and often away from his 14-year-old daughter Francis (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), a precocious kid who’s inherited his curiosity and longs to join him. His ex Samantha (Kaniehtiio Horn) is exasperated by Lee’s endless digging, but still sees the good in him – especially when it comes to Francis, the one thing they’ve never stopped showing up for. When the publication of his latest exposé – a deep dive into the powerful Washberg family – is immediately followed by the suspicious death of Dale Washberg (Tim Blake Nelson), the black sheep of the family, Lee knows he’s stumbled onto something big. Following the trailer that Dale has left behind, urging someone to dig deeper into the circumstances surrounding his death, Lee does just that. And what Lee discovers is that Betty Jo (Jeanne Tripplehorn), the grieving widow, seems to be more interested in her brother-in-law Donald Washberg (Kyle MacLachlan), a gubernatorial candidate, than in her dearly departed. And powerful forces want to prevent Lee from learning anything more about them…

The Lowdown is a series created by Native American writer / director Sterlin Harjo (Seminole Nation of Oklahoma), director of the indie films Mekko and Love and Fury previously, plus episodes of the “Reservoir Dogs” FX series recently. With writing by Duffy Boudreau, Sterlin Harjo, Sneha Koorse, Olivia Purnell, Scott Teems. And featuring episodes directed by Sterlin Harjo, Macon Blair, Danis Goulet. It’s produced by FX Productions. Executive produced by Garrett Basch, Sterlin Harjo, Ethan Hawke, Ryan Hawke. FX will debut The Lowdown series streaming on Hulu starting on September 23rd, 2025 coming soon. Look any good?

The Wire’s David Simon says he can no longer get a series made

by jummy84 August 25, 2025
written by jummy84

The Wire‘s David Simon says he can no longer get a show made, but also reveals details of new projects he would be keen to work on.

He said he “can’t get anything made” at the moment, explaining that he has been struggling to land a show at HBO.

Speaking to The Observer, the screenwriter and producer opened up about the struggle to find a home for shows and projects he would like to make.

“I’ll never write anything that’s going to be a franchise,” Simon told the publication. “I was having lunch with the boss there and I said: ‘You know, I’m not sure you guys are the home for what I do any more. You’re not going to take the David Simon Harry Potter miniseries about a bureaucratic Hogwarts that can’t function.’”

He later said that there are more shows and projects he hopes to be able to work on, including a musical using music by The Pogues. He said:  “You know, I’m 64. I had a good 25-year run. But on my shelf, there is [still] a series about the history of the CIA and American foreign policy since the second world war.

“There’s a miniseries about the first Muslim FBI agent and how he got run out of the bureau. There’s another piece [about] child protective services and the family courts. There’s a punk musical using the music of the Pogues.”

Back in 2021, Simon penned a tribute in an open essay to the show’s late actor Michael K Williams.  Simon took to Twitter to post a tribute in the New York Times after the actor was found dead in his home in Brooklyn, New York. He was 54.

“A short remembrance for a talent, a genuine collaborator and a true friend. What I hope never gets lost is the awareness that Mike genuinely wanted his work to matter; not for fame or reward, but for leaving us all better humans in its wake,” The Wire creator wrote in the post.

The essay centres around a conversation Williams had about his character Omar Little, and the HBO series itself, with the writers prior to the acclaimed show’s second season, which the actor felt was straying fundamentally from the acclaimed first season.

Also in 2021, The Wire was named the greatest TV series of the 21st century in a poll. The critically acclaimed drama ranked first in a BBC list ranking the best shows of the last 21 years, based on an aggregate poll of TV critics.

Reacting to the win, The Wire creator David Simon said: “I’m glad the show has a shelf life. We weren’t interested in whether characters were good or bad. The writers had in their heads the idea, ‘If a society is going to have a law enforcement arm, what’s the job of that institution? What are the police doing?’

“If you write a show like that, it will have a shelf life for as long as those systems are in play.”

David Corenswet’s ‘Superman’ Audition Self-Tape Goes Viral

by jummy84 August 24, 2025
written by jummy84

Now that Superman is available to watch at home, fans have been blessed with David Corenswet‘s audition to play Clark Kent.

A self-tape video of the actor reading his lines has recently gone viral, showing how he landed the role of the Man of Steel in the James Gunn-helmed blockbuster, which premiered last month in theaters before debuting on digital this month.

In the video shared on YouTube by 21 Casting, Corenswet slates to the camera before getting in Clark Kent costume and performing the interview scene with his wife Julia Warner reading Lois Lane’s part.

“You better be blown away by David Corenswet’s audition. This dude just oozes that Superman vibe,” a fan wrote on X with a still of Corenswet in Netflix’s The Politician, in which his character was compared to the DC superhero.

“David Corenswet was born to play Superman! Is Clark Kent!” another person raved. “What an amazing audition tape!”

You can always tell who went to Juilliard and who didn’t. Corenswet is such a theatre kid and it’s so great. He channeling Reeve so much here it’s wild. Also, if you haven’t seen his student projects and shorts, you’re missing out. They’re absolutely fantastic https://t.co/QScnaCGH1l

One viewer wrote, “You can always tell who went to Juilliard and who didn’t. Corenswet is such a theatre kid and it’s so great. He channeling [Christopher] Reeve so much here it’s wild. Also, if you haven’t seen his student projects and shorts, you’re missing out. They’re absolutely fantastic.”

In addition to a “beautiful” handwritten letter from Corenswet that came after, Gunn previously told GQ he was immediately convinced by the actor’s audition tape. “From the very beginning, he was the guy to beat, frankly,” he said.

Corenswet told the outlet, “James has told me that the one thing that surprised him, that meant something to him initially, was the humor that I brought to that first scene. I immediately read it in the terms of the movies that I grew up on, which are Singin’ in the Rain and His Girl Friday, and the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies. Just the timing and the patter and the style of humor—and it turned out that that was what he was imagining.”

After surpassing $331M to become the United States’ highest-grossing Man of Steel pic in the month since its release, Superman premiered on digital this month, giving fans a chance to catch up before the return of Peacemaker to HBO Max for Season 2.

Since taking over DC Studios with Peter Safran, Superman marks the first entry in Gunn’s new DCU franchise, which begins with the ‘Gods and Monsters’ phase.

Victoria Beckham Wore Lace Lingerie as Beachwear—and David Beckham Couldn't Keep His Hands Off Her

Victoria Beckham Wore Lace Lingerie as Beachwear—and David Beckham Couldn’t Keep His Hands Off Her

For Victoria Beckham, there’s no such thing as being overdressed, whether she’s wearing spandex stiletto bootpants to the airport or silky lingerie on a very big boat.

On August 19, the 51-year-old fashion designer proved a little black slip dress is even more versatile than previously believed. In new photos from a Beckham family yacht trip off the coast of Italy, Victoria seemed to shirk traditional bathing suit cover ups in favor of wearing sheer, lacy lingerie over her black bikini during a family yacht trip off the coast Italy.

Though she topped off this particularly posh look with sparkling diamond bracelets, the former Spice Girl kept things somewhat beachy by going barefoot and adding a pair of her signature oversized sunglasses.

Belle & Bloom Heavenly Bodies Lace Slip Dress

Free People Sheer Romance Slip

The results speak for themselves, as her husband, David Beckham, couldn’t keep his hands off of her. In multiple photos shared by Page Six, the 50-year-old retired soccer player could be seen embracing his wife of 26 years with his hand resting in a rather cheeky location.

For his part, David was dressed in just a navy blue swim trunk—a sight Victoria clearly enjoyed as well, considering she took a minute to snap a few photos of her husband while he posed shirtless on the yacht’s steps. You can see the looks for yourself here.

Of course, the final snaps are very likely to end up on Victoria’s own Instagram in the near future. More than once, she’s been known to share a scantily clad photo of her husband on the grid with a quick “you’re welcome” to her 33 million Instagram followers.

Clearly, David and Victoria Beckham only fall deeper in love with every Italian getaway, and we love that for them.

Popular David Mitchell series confirmed to not return for new episodes

by jummy84 August 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Alongside Mitchell, other comedians who featured in the show included Alan Davies, Kerry Godliman, Ed Gamble, Jessica Hynes and Judi Love.

Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival 2025, Hilary Rosen, director of commissioning at UKTV, explained that the series would not be returning.

“It is not currently returning, and we have announced that,” confirmed Rosen. “Would we look at that show again in the future? Maybe. Not currently. [David] loved doing it. We loved working with him.

“We definitely would be interested in other ideas with David Mitchell – we have a fantastic relationship with him.”

David Mitchell will return as John ‘Ludwig’ Taylor in Ludwig. BBC / Big Talk Studios

After calling him a “stunning” talent, Rosen was keen on “fresh new interesting ideas” with Mitchell, but noted that he was “pretty busy” and a “difficult man to get a lunch appointment with”.

Speaking about the Taskmaster comparisons to the show back in 2021, Mitchell told RadioTimes.com: “Greg Davies is a very funny man but I don’t think he was my inspiration as a judge, because I couldn’t do that.

“He’s very funny being the strong, fearless, arbitrary authority figure and that’s just not my persona. I pretty much tried to take my role as chairman on The Unbelievable Truth on Radio 4 as my starting point; a slightly befuddled, irascible and indecisive leader rather than the guillotine slice of Greg Davies on Taskmaster.”

Of course, Mitchell’s prolific career continues in earnest, with fans delighted to learn his crime series Ludwig was renewed by the BBC for a second season late last year.

Additionally, a toxicology test included in the report stated that there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol above the legal limit in David’s system at the time.

No foul play is suspected, and the Hawaii Police Department told People Aug. 19 that the investigation into David’s death has now been completed.

David’s family first shared the heartbreaking news of his passing on June 16, when his sister Jalene Kanani Bell shared a moving tribute to the late actor.

“It is with a heavy heart I share that my sweet, generous, talented, funny, brilliant and handsome little brother David H. K. Bell will spend today in the company of our Heavenly Father,” she wrote on Facebook at the time. “I’ve been waiting for the words and mindset to properly express the joy of a human, and Prince of a Man he was, but fate pushed my hand this morning by a pre-scheduled Father’s Day newsletter honoring the men in our lives.”

Since David Bowie’s Death “the World’s Gone to Shit”

by jummy84 August 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Acclaimed actor Gary Oldman says it’s no coincidence that the “world’s gone to shit” since his longtime friend, David Bowie, died in January 2016.

Oldman opened up about his connection with Bowie during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, where he emphasized the depths of their friendship: “We laughed a lot — a lot. He was very, very, very funny, David,” the Oscar-winning actor revealed. “And we sort of had similar kinds of backgrounds, grew up in similar neighborhoods” (Bowie and Oldman both grew up in South London).

The actor went on to add that Bowie was “inspiring” and “a great innovator and not afraid to try things,” among his many positive attributes. He also cited Bowie’s constant innovation as an inspiration in his own work.

“Don’t you feel that since he died, the world’s gone to shit? It was like he was cosmic glue or something,” he mused regarding Bowie’s passing. “When he died, everything fell apart. So, yeah, I miss him.” (Editor’s note: ten days after Bowie’s death, Donald Trump was sworn in for his first term as president.)

The pair’s friendship was well documented, with Oldman delivering a heartfelt tribute while accepting Bowie’s posthumous Icon Award during the 2016 BRIT Awards shortly after the singer’s death. Watch the acceptance speech below.

In 2017, Oldman curated a special tribute to what would have been the Starman’s 70th birthday. Held at the Brixton Academy in London, Oldman performed a pair of Bowie classics (“Dead Man Walking” and “The Man Who Sold the World”) at the show, which also saw appearances from artists including Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran, Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott, members of Spandau Ballet, La Roux, and more.

Oldman performed Tin Machine’s “I Can Read” at a special celebration for Bowie’s 74th birthday in 2021.

The two also collaborated artistically over the years, with both starring in the 1996 biopic, Basquiat. In 2013, Oldman appeared alongside French actress Marion Cotillard in the music video for the title track of Bowie’s 2013 album, The Next Day, which was written and conceived by Bowie, and directed by Floria Sigismondi.
