“I Traveled Back Into The ’70s” to See David Bowie Perform

by jummy84 October 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Any one who has ever seen or heard Janelle Monáe knows that she’s very much out there in the best ways possible. Now, we know just how far out there she is: Circa 1972 at a David Bowie concert.

Yes, as she revealed during in a recent chat with Lucy Dacus for Rolling Stone’s Musicians on Musicians series, Monáe is a time traveler. (So, is that more Bill and Ted or, like, The Time Traveler’s Wife?) And at some point in her early career, she harnessed the space-time continuum itself to go see Bowie and his band perform during the tour for The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

“I traveled back into the 1970s and I saw him do Ziggy Stardust and it was incredible,” Monáe said. I mean, I maybe would’ve instead stopped the bombing of Pearl Harbor, or shuffled Baby Hitler off this mortal coil. Still, a nice concert after some chrono-skipping sounds lovely, too. Check out the clip below.

Now, you’re likely feeling exactly like Dacus looked: A little shocked, and maybe even a tiny bit incredulous to boot. But open your ears and your mind, as what Monáe says next really matters.

“I was backstage, and this is what I want to do,” Monáe continued. “And so I jetted back to, you know, the 2000s. And I was like, ‘I can have the musical, make the music, create the lyrics, and create community around transformation and being queer.’ And not even just in sexuality, but in how we see the world.”

Yes, slack-jawed reader, this whole thing is likely a creative little metaphor for Monáe’s own connection to Bowie’s music, and how it gave her the courage to embrace her own chameleon-esque powers of artistic reinvention and genre-smashing personal growth. (I mean, she nigh literally transformed into Michael Jackson at the 2025 Grammys.) Monáe simply experienced the Thin White Duke in such a deeply personal way that she might as well have moved through time itself, and we’ve all felt that way about an artist. (But none of us got the chance to share that story in a way to unnerve Lucy Dacus.)

And even more than her own creative inspirations, she came back from the ’70s with one vital lesson for the rest of us (with an otherwise tenuous grasp on the timestream):

“Let’s go outside the mundane and what people know us as,” Monáe said. “Leave room to allow yourself to transform.”

In a day and age where so many people’s identities are being policed and/or erased, Monáe’s little fable seems especially important. We must accept ourselves fully, be willing to embrace the positive power of growth and change, and become who we want to see out in the world.

Unless, of course, she was being literal with her experiences. And at that point, we should all probably continue to idolize Monáe lest we all find ourselves suddenly “un-born” somehow.

Check out the full conversation below (before it’s seized by the MIB, of course).

David Gilmour says there is “no possible way” he would work with Roger Waters again

by jummy84 October 19, 2025
written by jummy84

David Gilmour has said there is “no possible way” that he would ever work with his former Pink Floyd bandmate Roger Waters again.

The two creative forces behind the legendary rock band have been publicly feuding for much of the time since Waters’ departure in 1985, with the dispute becoming political in recent years. Last year, Gilmour stated that he would rather “steer clear of people who actively support genocidal and autocratic dictators like Putin and Maduro” than reunite with Waters.

It appears that he has not softened his stance over the past 12 months. In a new interview with The Telegraph, he was asked what it would take for him to join forces with Waters again. “Nothing,” he replied. “There is no possible way that I would do that.”

Going into further detail in the 2024 interview, Gilmour explained: “Nothing would make me share a stage with someone who thinks such treatment of women and the LGBT community is OK. On the other hand, I’d love to be back on stage with [Pink Floyd keyboardist] Rick Wright, who was one of the gentlest and most musically gifted people I’ve ever known.”

Gilmour’s wife Olly Samson has also been vocally outspoken against Waters’ politics, accusing him in 2023 of being “anti-Semitic to [his] rotten core” and “a Putin apologist and a lying, thieving, hypocritical, tax-avoiding, lip-synching, misogynistic, sick-with-envy, megalomaniac”. Gilmour re-shared Samson’s post, adding that “every word [is] demonstrably true”.

Waters himself issued a statement in response, in which he described Samson’s comments as “incendiary and wildly inaccurate”, adding that he “refutes [them] entirely”. He also said that he was “taking advice as to his position” regarding the claims.

Gilmour has also said he finds it “wearisome” to have to talk about Waters. “Do you know what decade of my life I was in when Roger left our pop group? My thirties. I am now 78. Where’s the relevance?” he told Mojo in 2024. In a Rolling Stone interview, however, he also stated that “one day there are things I will talk about”.

Elsewhere, Pink Floyd sold their back catalogue for $400million in a deal with Sony last year. Gilmour said it was a move driven primarily by his desire to “get out of the mud bath that it has been for quite a while”, rather than a financially-motivated decision.

Gilmour released the live concert film of his ‘David Gilmour Live At The Circus Maximus, Rome’ on Blu-ray on Friday (October 17), while a 50th anniversary edition of Pink Floyd’s ‘Wish You Were Here’ is coming on December 12 as a deluxe box set.

Earlier this year, Pink Floyd achieved their seventh UK Number One album with their live record ‘Pink Floyd At Pompeii – MCMLXXII’.

David Attenborough Becomes Oldest Daytime Emmys Winner Ever at 99

by jummy84 October 18, 2025
written by jummy84

Dick Van Dyke‘s record as oldest performer to win a Daytime Emmy didn’t last long. At this year’s ceremony, legendary British broadcaster, writer and naturalist Sir David Attenborough has made history, winning the 2024 Daytime Emmy award for outstanding daytime personality – Non-Daily — for Netflix’s “Secret Lives of Orangutans” at the age of 99. (He turns 100 next May.)

That makes him a hair older than Van Dyke, who previously set the record last year at 98 when won the guest performer in a daytime drama series Daytime Emmy last year via his spot on Peacock’s “Days of Our Lives.”

Attenborough’s win was one of three for Netflix’s “Secret Lives of Orangutans,” which also won directing team for a single camera daytime non-fiction program.

Attenborough won over Brad Bestelink, “Living with Leopards” (Netflix); Andi Sweeney Blanco, Courtney Dober, Rob North & Kirin Stone, “The Fixers” (BYUtv); Anthony Mackie, “Shark Beach with Anthony Mackie: Gulf Coast” (National Geographic); and Martha Stewart, “Martha Gardens” (Roku).

Attenborough is known as one of the world’s most famous natural sciences broadcasters, starting with 1954’s “Zoo Quest.” As a narrator, his more recent successes include include “Planet Earth” and its sequels, “Blue Planet” and its sequels, “The Green Planet,” “Wild Isles,” “Dinosaurs: The Final Day With David Attenborough,” “Life In Colour,” “Frozen Planet” and more.

Here’s the logline for “Secret Lives of Orangtutans”: “Orangutans are not just one of our closest relatives, they’re perhaps more relatable to us than any other great ape. Narrated by David Attenborough, this film follows a remarkable group of orangutans in the pristine jungles of Sumatra. At the centre of this story is 8 year old Eden, who’s about to embark on the most challenging moment of her life.”

The 52nt annual Daytime Emmy Awards took place on Friday, Oct. 17, at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

First Look Teaser for ‘Wasteman’ Prison Movie Starring David Jonsson

“You are this close to gettin’ out of here…” Lionsgate UK has revealed the first teaser trailer for the film Wasteman, an acclaimed indie debut from the 2025 Toronto Film Festival. I’ve seen this already – and yep it’s damn good. Definitely one to keep an eye out for. The directorial debut of Cal McMau, Wasteman tells the incredible story of how a convict’s chances for early prison release come under threat from his ruthlessly violent new cellmate in this uncompromisingly brutal British thriller. The film follows parolee Taylor whose fresh start hopes are jeopardized by cellmate Dee’s arrival. As the rebellious Dee takes Taylor under his wing, a vicious attack tests their bond, forcing Taylor to choose between protecting Dee and his own parole chances. Starring the exceptionally talented David Jonsson (last seen in The Long Walk) along with Tom Blyth, plus Alex Hassell, Corin Silva, and Paul Hilton. Though it’s a familiar story of inmates & prison culture, it is worth watching just for the two riveting lead performances and their dynamic within this film.

Here’s the first UK teaser trailer (+ poster) for Cal McMau’s film Wasteman, direct from YouTube:

Wasteman Teaser Trailer

Wasteman Teaser Poster

After years in prison, in which time his son has grown up without him, Taylor’s (David Jonsson) parole is approaching. It’s bad timing, then, that new cellmate Dee (Tom Blyth) ropes Taylor into violent inmate rivalries, endangering his fresh start outside the prison walls. Cal McMau’s feature debut is an intense & claustrophobic portrait of a merciless prison eco-system, featuring standout performances from rising British stars David Jonsson and Tom Blyth. Wasteman is directed by artist / graphics designer / filmmaker Cal McMau, making his first feature film after other video work previously. The screenplay is written by Hunter Andrews and Eoin Doran. Produced by Sophia Gibber and Myles Payne. This initially premiered at the 2025 Toronto & London Film Festivals this year. Lionsgate UK will debut McMau’s Wasteman movie in UK cinemas starting on February 20th, 2026 early next year. No US release date is set. First impression?

Hayley Williams Releases New David Byrne Duet “Open The Door,” Slams Kid Rock

by jummy84 October 12, 2025
written by jummy84

In another reason why they should just form a dang band already, Hayley Williams and David Byrne have released another new collaboration in “Open The Door.”

The sentimental, sunshine-laden ballad is from the soundtrack to the new Netflix film The Twits (based on the beloved 1980 Roald Dahl children’s novel). In the film, two kids and a “family of magical animals” team up to battle the “meanest, nastiest villains [who] pull a trick to take over their town.” Check out the song below.

Related Video

The same day the pair released “Open The Door,” Williams made a surprise appearance during Byrne’s October 10th show at New York’s Radio City Music Hall. Byrniams/Willyrne performed their other duet, “What Is the Reason for It?” (off Byrne’s latest, Who Is The Sky?). Then, later in the set, Williams returned for a rendition of Paramore’s 2017 jam “Hard Times” (of which Byrne previously released a cover and performed regularly across this latest tour). Check out footage from that show below.

The pair first linked up in 2023/2024 when Paramore covered “Burning Down The House” for the A24-led re-release of 1984’s Stop Making Sense concert film. Byrne told People recently that they’ve maintained regular contact ever since, and he has nothing but adoration for Williams’ talent.

“She has an extraordinary rapport with her audience,” Byrne said. “It’s very sincere and very close, which I made note of that. I just thought that’s really amazing.”

Byrne also noted that “What Is the Reason for It?” came together rather organically, and that he and Williams both managed to be in town at the same exact time. He added, “I just texted her and said, ‘Do you want to come by and sing on this?’ And she said yes.”

It’s been a busy few weeks for Williams. In addition to these collabs, she’s been further supporting her latest solo album, Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party. And speaking of that very LP, the title track continues to garner the singer some contempt from certain conservative figures.

The song, which features a line about a “racist country singer,” is hands-down a sturdy middle finger to one Morgan Wallen.

“It could be a couple [singers], but I’m always talking about Morgan Wallen. I don’t give a shit,” Williams recently told The New York Times’ Popcast podcast. “Find me at Whole Foods, bitch, I don’t care.”

Yet even as Williams is clearly talking about someone else, that didn’t stop Kid Rock from commenting during a recent Fox News appearance.

“You know what’s stupid is people who think they’re cooler than art thou that worry about their outfit every day like some of these rock singers that live here in Nashville — I won’t stay any names — or these chicks running around on their campuses with their blue hair, their five nose rings.”

In turn, Williams responded to Rock’s comments with an Instagram story (per Stereogum), spinning a hilarious little yarn that places the “rapper” in  some rather interesting context.

“I remember being a little kid in Meridian, MS the first time I heard a Kid Rock song [‘Bawitdaba’]…at Poplar Springs Elementary’s annual field day. I thought it sounded dangerous and cool. Later, I learned I wasn’t allowed to listen to him ’cause the Southern Baptist Church said he was evil. My how the turn tables!”

So, who wins the Williams-Kid Rock beef? Well, one of them is regularly collaborating with David Byrne and the other’s on The Ingraham Angle, so we’ll let you decide.

David Byrne Welcomes Hayley Williams In New York

by jummy84 October 12, 2025
written by jummy84

David Byrne and Hayley Williams have enjoyed a close personal and working relationship for the past several years, and their chemistry was evident last night (Oct. 11) at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, where the Paramore frontwoman made a surprise appearance for two songs.

The artists reprised their collaboration “What Is the Reason for It?” from Byrne’s latest album, Who Is the Sky?, and Williams returned later to lend a hand on Byrne’s cover of Paramore’s 2013 song “Hard Times,” which he’s played at every show so far on his in-progress North American tour.

What’s more, Byrne and Williams’ previously announced contribution to the Netflix animated film The Twits, “Open the Door,” is out now ahead of the movie’s Oct. 17 release date. Byrne wrote and produced three other original songs, “We’re Not Like Ev’ryone Else,” “Lullaby” and “The Problem Is You,” for the project, which is based on characters by Roald Dahl and boasts voice acting by Natalie Portman and Emilia Clarke.

“She has an extraordinary rapport with her audience,” Byrne told People of seeing Williams perform with Paramore at New York’s Madison Square Garden in 2023. “It’s very sincere and very close, which I made note of. I just thought, that’s really amazing.”

Byrne concludes his four-night Radio City run tonight and has dates booked in North American through Dec. 6 in Miami. Dates in Australia, New Zealand, the U.K. and Europe begin Jan. 14 in Auckland.

David Del Rio’s rise in Hollywood has taken a dramatic turn. After landing a major role as Billy Martinez on CBS’s Matlock, the 38-year-old was abruptly removed from the cast amid sexual assault allegations by co-star Leah Lewis. The alleged incident, reportedly occurring in September 2025, triggered an internal investigation and ultimately led to his firing.

David, also known for co-founding Theatre Row Productions and his many acting credits, now finds his personal and professional life under intense scrutiny. Learn more about him, his career, and personal life below.

Who Is David Del Rio?

David has appeared in films like Pitch Perfect and various television projects. In March 2023, he was cast in CBS’s pilot Matlock, taking on the role of Billy Martinez.

His involvement in Matlock marked one of his highest-profile TV roles, until news broke of his sudden departure in October 2025.

Is David Del Rio Married?

Yes. David has been married to Katherine Del Rio since 2018. Their connection has a bit of a Hollywood origin story: Katherine first met David when she saw him perform in In the Heights while she was studying at NYU. They reconnected later through mutual friends, began dating, and he proposed in 2017 before their wedding in Quintana Roo, Mexico.

Katherine is also David’s collaborator: together, they co-founded Theatre Row Productions. Beyond her work in entertainment, she’s also pursued a culinary path, having worked as a chef and catered for high-profile clients including the Jonas Brothers.

Does David Del Rio Have Kids?

Yes, the couple has two daughters together: Lily, born in June 2023, and Coco, born in March 2025. The Del Rio family has kept much of their private life out of the spotlight.

Why Was David Del Rio Fired From Matlock?

David’s firing from Matlock in October 2025 followed an internal investigation into a sexual assault allegation made by co-star Leah. The alleged incident reportedly took place in Leah’s trailer on September 26, with the complaint made on October 2, and David removed from the set the same day.

Upon the news breaking, Leah reacted publicly. In an Instagram Story, she wrote, “Mom is here, we’re moving forward in love and strength … Thank you to everybody for any kind of support and care. Truly, we’re moving forward in strength.”

Meanwhile, Katherine responded with Instagram posts—later deleted—that were critical of Leah. One close-up image of Leah’s face included the caption: “This is the most disturbing human being I have ever met.”

— Sha Hartley (@shahartley) October 10, 2025

CBS announced that Del Rio’s character, Billy Martinez, will be written out of upcoming episodes. Production for Matlock resumed without him, and his removal happened very quickly after the allegation was made.

If you or anyone you know has been sexually abused, call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673). A trained staff member will provide confidential, judgment-free support as well as local resources to assist in healing, recovering and more.

Mayor Bans Disturbed’s Belgium Show Over Safety Risks Surrounding David Draiman’s Support of Israel

by jummy84 October 10, 2025
written by jummy84

Disturbed were set to play the venue Forest National in Brussels, Belgium, on October 15th as part of “The Sickness 25th Anniversary Tour,” but it now appears that show will not take place. A local mayor has ordered a ban on the show over safety concerns tied to frontman David Draiman’s support of Israel.

Charles Spapens, mayor of Forest, a municipality of Brussels, issued the following statement, per The Brussels Times: “My responsibility and priority are the safety of residents, neighbors, demonstrators, spectators and staff at Forest National. Given the police’s negative advice and the venue’s unique location, it was my duty to make this decision.”

His decision came after a police risk assessment warned that Draiman’s appearance could lead to violent demonstrations around the venue. It was also influenced by a national strike set to take place a day earlier in Brussels, as well as the anticipation of other demonstrations that may occur in the area.

Draiman, who is Jewish, has been an outspoken supporter of Israel for years, but it appears that it’s the photos of him signing Israel Defense Forces (IDF) missiles he tweeted in June 2024 with the hashtag “#FuckHamas” that raised the most concern for Mayor Spapens and local authorities.

Those photos came to light again earlier this year when Draiman engaged in a war of words with pro-Palestinian UK hip-hop band Kneecap.

As of this posting, the Brussels concert is still listed on Disturbed’s official website, with tickets still being sold via Live Nation Belgium. Disturbed have not made any official statement regarding the status of the show.

Victoria Beckham, David Beckham’s Love Story After Cheating Allegations

by jummy84 October 8, 2025
written by jummy84

But the now-defunct News of the World ran a story in April 2004 detailing, via a source identified as a so-called “close family friend,” several sexual encounters David and Rebecca allegedly had after that night at the club in 2003, after which they allegedly continued to exchange racy texts. Victoria contacted Rebecca, the story claimed, warning her to back off.

So, a few months shy of the Beckhams’ fifth wedding anniversary, the British tabloids were having their own field day covering the increasingly explosive cheating allegations, which blew up further after Rebecca’s brother alleged his sister had “confirmed” to him that she’d had an affair with the soccer star in Spain.

Aides speaking for the family said Victoria’s subsequent trip to Switzerland was a long-planned vacation with her parents and mother-in-law, not a hasty escape from the public eye.

With the scandal refusing to go away, David broke his silence, saying in a statement: “During the past few months I have become accustomed to reading more and more ludicrous stories about my private life…The simple truth is that I am very happily married. I have a wonderful wife and two very special kids. There is nothing any third party can do to change these facts.”
