Neurologist warns against these 3 simple habits that can damage your brain: ‘Wearing headphones to bed leads to…’

Brain health is a crucial element of your overall wellbeing, as your brain controls all bodily functions and mental processes, including movement, thoughts, emotions, and memory, among others.

If you are one of those people who wear headphones to bed, you should know that loud sounds can damage the hair cells in your inner ear and over time can raise your risk of hearing loss and dementia. (Freepik)

While diet, exercise, and rest are important components of maintaining brain health, your lifestyle habits also significantly impact your brain’s well-being. Sometimes, however, there are some inconsequential practices that we believe do no harm, but are risking cognitive decline and brain disorders.

3 things that can harm your brain

In a November 4 Instagram post shared by Dr Bing, MD, MPH, a neurologist and biostatistician, he listed three things that he absolutely avoids as a neurologist and recommends others avoid as well. The habits include practices such as wearing headphones for extended periods or to bed, neglecting gum health, and sitting on the toilet for an excessive amount of time. Here’s how they damage your brain.

1. Wearing headphones to bed

Dr Bing cautioned against wearing headphones to bed. Here’s why: “If you are one of those people who wear headphones to bed, just make sure that the sounds that you’re playing are quiet and not loud because loud sounds can damage the hair cells in your inner ear and over time can raise your risk of hearing loss and dementia.”

Moreover, the neurologist emphasised that wearing earbuds and headphones for extended periods can trap moisture and bacteria. This can increase the risk of developing an ear infection.

“If you’re listening to loud sounds during sleep, it might interrupt your deep sleep and disrupt your lymphatic system, which is your brain’s nightly cleaning cycle that cleans out toxins,” he added.

2. Ignoring gum health

Next, the neurologist advised against ignoring gum health. Sharing his routine, Dr Bing revealed, “Every night, I floss and I water floss and then I brush because recent studies have shown that gum health might be related to someone’s brain health.”

The neurologist cited a 2025 study which found: “People with more gum disease and cavities had almost double the risk of stroke, and other studies have linked poor oral health to dementia and cognitive decline.”

3. Sitting on the toilet for more than 5 minutes

Lastly, the neurologist advised against sitting on the toilet for more than 5 minutes. He divulged, “This is because sitting too long and straining can cause blood to pool in your legs and drop your blood pressure, especially if you have certain underlying conditions, and not enough blood going to your brain can cause someone to faint.”

Unfortunately, the neurologist revealed that he sees such examples almost every week. However, he excused those with chronic bowel disease, as they might not have a choice, but otherwise, he cautioned, “Do not linger on the toilet.”

Stranger Things Premiere Damage Control

by jummy84 November 8, 2025
written by jummy84

David Harbour is not having a good month. But attendees at the Los Angeles premiere event on Nov. 6 for the fifth and final season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things” might not have noticed.

Harbour was all smiles on the red carpet, particularly as he playfully hugged co-star Millie Bobby Brown, and they took selfies with fans. The two arrived at the event together, and even traded compliments in interviews on the carpet: Brown told “Entertainment Tonight” that she “obviously had a really special bond with David because we have a father-daughter relationship, and we do every scene together… It’s been so special to have him along the journey for me.” When Harbour spoke with ET, the only outlet he granted an interview, he said of Brown: “I adore her, and I’ve been proud to watch all of them grow up and become such great artists… this particular project is so special, and we’ve gotten to know each other so deeply.”

If the two seemed overly chummy on Thursday, perhaps that was the point: The premiere event came just days after the U.K.’s Daily Mail Nov. 1 report that Brown had filed a complaint of bullying and harassment against Harbour prior to the start of production of Season 5. Neither star commented on the story, and Harbour limited his interactions with the press at the premiere.

The news of Brown’s complaint against Harbour has threatened to overshadow coverage of the final season of “Stranger Things.” But insiders say that even before the recent news, Harbour wasn’t expected to take part in press junkets for the show due to his busy filming schedule. (His upcoming projects next year include HBO’s “DTF St. Louis” — with Jason Bateman and Linda Cardellini — and Marvel’s “Avengers: Doomsday,” opening December 2026.)

PR experts suggested to Variety that the red carpet choreography — as well as the full cast’s appearance together on stage at the TCL Chinese Theater prior to screening Episode 1 — was meant to send a message that the cast is united, and that the show is bigger than any one person. “The goal in these situations is to make it no worse,” one crisis PR exec said.

Instead, Netflix leaned into the imagery of Harbour and Brown being playful on the carpet, posting a video of the two as they greeted fans. Brown’s fashion brand, Florence by Mills, liked the video and posted a heart emoji, and many of the fan comments on the post suggested that they thought the reports of drama between the two stars was much ado about nothing. Photos taken inside the party also show the two being chummy.

Sources with knowledge of the situation have confirmed to Variety that there was an investigation into Brown’s complaint, and that it was resolved. As father and daughter on the show, as well as comrades in arms, Brown and Harbour share multiple scenes in Season 5 of “Stranger Things,” including a scene observed by a reporter for Variety during a day-long visit to the set in July 2024.

Representatives for Brown, Harbour and Netflix did not respond to requests for comment. On the carpet, the show’s creative leaders — creators Matt and Ross Duffer, and executive producer Shawn Levy — were asked about the complaint directly by the Hollywood Reporter; while they declined to speak about the actors by name, they all spoke about the importance of ensuring their cast feels safe within the “family” atmosphere of the show.

“I’ve read a bunch of stories and they range from wildly inaccurate to…there’s so much noise around it,” Levy told the outlet. “But the truth is that we view this crew and this cast as family, and so we treat each other with respect, and that’s always been bedrock.” Said Ross Duffer: “We’ve been doing this for 10 years with this cast, and at this point they’re family and we deeply care about them. So, you know, nothing matters more than just having a set where everyone feels safe and happy.”

In the first four seasons of “Stranger Things,” Brown’s character, Eleven (introduced in Season 1 as a quiet, pre-teen girl with extraordinary telekinetic abilities), and Harbour’s character, Hopper (introduced as the burnout chief of police of Hawkins, Indiana), form a surrogate father-daughter bond. In Seasons 2 and 3, Eleven and Hopper experience some friction due to Hopper’s overprotective concern for Eleven’s safety; by Season 4, the characters operate in totally separate storylines and don’t share a scene until the last minutes of the season finale.

The Daily Mail report was sourced to “a friend” of Harbour’s ex-wife Lily Allen. That’s of note because the story of Brown’s complaint broke amid a flurry of attention surrounding Harbour’s divorce from singer-songwriter Allen, whose new album, “West End Girl,” goes into extensive detail about Harbour’s alleged infidelity, as in the song “Pussy Palace.” In his review in Variety, Chris Willman said the album “is a divorce record with a capital D,” and that Allen and Harbour split up “after five years of marriage that apparently started as a fairy-tale romance for her and ended in the devastation strewn throughout every track on the album.”

Faridabad pulmonologist shares how to reverse lung damage from air pollution and smoking: ‘Brisk walking or exercise…’

by jummy84 November 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Our lungs are among the most vital organs, silently working to keep us alive. But exposure to tobacco smoke, air pollution, and harmful occupational substances can cause serious, sometimes irreversible damage. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Gurmeet Singh Chabbra, Director, Pulmonology, Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital, Faridabad, explains how these factors harm our lungs and what steps can help reverse or reduce the damage. (Also read: Orthopaedic surgeon shares 8 everyday habits that put your lungs, heart and other organs at risk: ‘Loud music…’ )

Dr Chabbra shares tips to improve lung health and reduce damage from smoking and pollution. ((Shutterstock))

How smoking and pollution affect your lungs

“At birth, our lungs are pink and healthy,” says Dr Chabbra. “However, prolonged exposure to cigarette smoke and air pollutants deposits toxins in the lungs, leading to chronic respiratory diseases and increasing the risk of lung cancer.”

He adds, “Smoking damages airways and alveoli, the tiny air sacs in the lungs. This causes swelling, reduces oxygen-carbon dioxide exchange, and leads to breathlessness over time. It also affects blood vessels, contributing to heart attacks, strokes, and other systemic health problems.”

Even non-smokers aren’t safe. “Living in highly polluted areas can be equivalent to smoking 20–30 cigarettes a day,” Dr Chabbra warns. “Airborne toxins accelerate lung ageing, increase the risk of COPD, and may lead to lung cancer over time.”

Dr. Chabbra emphasises the importance of reducing exposure to tobacco smoke and air pollution for lung health.(Pixabay)
Dr. Chabbra emphasises the importance of reducing exposure to tobacco smoke and air pollution for lung health.(Pixabay)

Common causes of lung damage

Dr Chabbra highlights key contributors:

  • Tobacco smoke: Contains thousands of harmful chemicals, causing DNA damage.
  • Air pollution: Vehicle emissions, industrial smoke, and cooking fuels emit particles that penetrate lung tissue.
  • Occupational exposure: Asbestos, silica, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) increase risk in industrial workers.

“Reducing exposure to these major causes is essential for lung health,” he says.

Tips to help recover lung health

While some damage may be permanent, Dr Chabbra explains that certain lifestyle changes can help restore lung function and prevent further damage:

1. Quit smoking immediately – the first and most crucial step.

2. Exercise regularly – brisk walking or light aerobic activity helps clear mucus and boost lung capacity.

3. Improve indoor air quality – use HEPA air purifiers, proper ventilation, and avoid exposure during peak pollution hours.

4. Eat a nutritious, antioxidant-rich diet – fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, beetroot, garlic, and green tea help tissue repair.

5. Stay hydrated – adequate water intake helps thin mucus and flush toxins.

6. Practice breathing exercises or yoga – techniques like Pranayama strengthen lungs and improve efficiency.

Dr Chabbra emphasises that vaccinations and regular health checks are vital for lung health. (Google Gemini)

7. Vaccination – flu and pneumonia shots protect against infections that could further harm the lungs.

8. Regular health check-ups – especially for those over 40 or with a smoking history. Low-dose CT scans can detect early-stage lung cancer or other illnesses.

“In severe cases, a lung transplant may be the only option,” notes Dr Chabbra. “But early detection and proper care can significantly improve quality of life.”

Preventing further damage

“Air pollution and smoking cause persistent damage,” Dr Chabbra emphasises. “The only way to protect your lungs is to quit smoking and minimise exposure to harmful pollutants.”

He adds practical tips for everyday protection:

  • Wear a properly fitted N95 mask in high-pollution areas.
  • Use air purifiers with HEPA filters indoors and keep windows and doors closed.
  • Avoid biomass fuels like wood, coal, cow dung, or kerosene in poorly ventilated spaces.

The role of diet, exercise and hydration

“Eating antioxidant-rich foods, practising yoga, exercising regularly, and staying hydrated all support lung health,” says Dr Chabbra. “Hydration keeps mucus thin, making it easier to expel toxins and improving overall respiratory efficiency.”

By following these steps consistently, lung health can improve, breathlessness can be reduced, and the risk of further complications can be minimised.

“I thought we’d get started with a little bit of Neil,” singer says before playing Harvest classic at charity show

Lana Del Rey took the stage Saturday at Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” charity concert, with the singer opened her set with a rendition of the host’s “The Needle and the Damage Done.”

“I thought we’d get started with a little bit of Neil,” Del Rey told the crowd as she walked onstage at Lake Hughes, California’s Painted Turtle Summer Camp. She and her band then launched into a faithful and stirring take on the Harvest classic.

Del Rey’s set also included performances of her own “Arcadia,” “Video Games,” “Summertime Sadness,” and “Norman Fucking Rockwell,” as well as her first-ever solo performance of “Let the Light In.”

Trending Stories

Saturday’s gig marked Del Rey’s last scheduled performance of 2025 — and the last show on her live itinerary in general — but there’s always the slim chance she might randomly hop up onstage if the moment strikes her. The singer previously revealed that her country-inspired album has been pushed to 2026.

This year’s Harvest Moon concert also featured sets from Beck, John Mayer, and Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Painted Turtle, which provides a summer camp experience for kids with serious medical issues, and the Bridge School, which educates children with severe speech and physical disabilities.

Urologist warns these 5 morning habits can damage your kidneys: ‘Not drinking water in the morning to…’

by jummy84 October 25, 2025
written by jummy84

Your morning habits set the course for the day you will have, and they are not limited to what you eat for breakfast. It can determine whether you will feel energised throughout the day or be lethargic. Moreover, the decisions you make in the morning also impact your kidneys.

In an Instagram post shared on October 14, Dr Venkatsubramaniam, a urologist, explained the 5 morning habits that you may be unknowingly practising and are harming your kidneys. He included habits like not drinking water after waking up, holding your pee, taking painkillers on an empty stomach, not rehydrating after exercise, and skipping breakfast. Let’s find out why you should be avoiding these habits.

5 morning habits that can harm your kidneys

Sharing the list of 5 morning habits that may be harming your kidneys, Dr Venkatsubramaniam wrote, “Your kidneys work all night to keep you healthy — don’t start your day by making their job harder. Small changes in your morning routine can go a long way in protecting your kidneys.”

1. Drink water before your coffee

Dr Venkatsubramaniam warned against not drinking water in the morning. According to him, after a night of mild dehydration, your body and your kidneys are craving water. “Start your day with at least a glass of water rather than choosing coffee or tea,” he suggested.

2. Don’t hold your pee

The urologist warned that after waking up, one shouldn’t hold their pee for long and immediately empty the bladder in the morning. He explained that after holding urine overnight, our bladder is already stretched and waiting to be released. “Never hold your pee for too long in the morning, and don’t do that throughout the day as well,” he advised.

3. Avoid painkillers on an empty stomach

Thirdly, the urologist advised against taking painkillers on an empty stomach. “Painkillers can harm your kidneys if not taken judiciously, but more so if taken on an empty stomach,” he explained.

4. Rehydrate after exercise

Skipping hydration after intense exercise can be bad for your kidneys. Though morning workouts are an excellent way to energise your day, the urologist advised that it’s equally important to rehydrate after you are done to replenish lost fluids and support recovery.

5. Never skip a healthy breakfast

Lastly, Dr Venkatsubramaniam advised never to skip breakfast. Often, due to our fast-paced lives, we miss eating a healthy breakfast in the morning. However, starting your day with a healthy protein breakfast is always beneficial, the urologist claimed. “By skipping breakfast, one tends to snack on high-salt foods, which are very high in sodium,” he warned.

World Spine Day 2025: Neurosurgeon shares 6 daily habits that damage your spine: Sleeping on stomach, soft mattress

World Spine Day 2025: 16 October is observed as World Spine Day to raise awareness regarding spinal health. This year’s theme is ‘invest in your spine.’ On this observance day, let’s take a closer look at some of the daily harmful habits.

Long hours of sitting at work is hazardous to your spinal health. (Picture credit: Freepik)

ALSO READ: Spine surgeon warns Indians not to ignore back pain until it’s too late, reveals who all ‘should be extra careful’

To understand how some common habits may impact spinal health, Dr Gaurav Batra, neurosurgeon of brain and spine at Max Super Speciality Hospital at Vaishali, shared with HT Lifestyle, that one needs to take care of the spine as it is the very bedrock of the body’s architecture, responsible for the majority of movements. But nowadays, some daily habits put spinal health at risk, causing severe backache.

“Back pain will also accumulate slowly and will become increasingly worse. Most stress that is acquired from posture, ergonomics, and habit can be avoided by being aware,” he emphasised. “Minor adjustments in how we sit, move, and sleep can have a big difference in how it keeps a healthy, ache-free spine.” To fix your back pain, you need to change some habits.

Dr Batra shared these five habits that quietly destabilise your spine, along with one pro tip for each on how you can rectify them:

1. Long sitting and posture

Make sure your posture is correct when you sit at work. (Picture credit: Freepik)
Make sure your posture is correct when you sit at work. (Picture credit: Freepik)
  • Hours of sitting, and particularly with a curved back and bowing neck, puts the lower back under tremendous tension.
  • Gradually, the constant tension seeps into the muscles of the spine, represses disc nutrition, and hastens wear and tear. The consequence is nagging stiffness of the back, fatigue, and even disc prolapse.

Tip: Sit with support for your lower back, screen at eye level, and take hourly moving breaks.

2. Excessive smartphone use

  • Repetition of neck flexion for extended periods of time spent on a phone can multiply the cervical spine’s load hundreds of times.
  • This is commonly referred to as ‘tech neck’, which results in neck pain, shoulder stiffness, and premature cervical spondylosis.

Tip: Phone at eye level with two-handed support, and intersperse gentle neck stretches during practice.

3. Having a sedentary lifestyle

  • A sedentary lifestyle weakens the deep spinal stabilising muscles, such as the back extensors and core.
  • This loads the discs and ligaments mechanically, resulting in chronic low back pain and deteriorated posture.

Tip: Regular stretching, strengthening, and brisk walking restore spinal balance and endurance.

4. Picking up objects the incorrect way

  • Bending at the waist to lift heavy objects places extreme stress on the lower back and may result in disc injury or abrupt muscle spasm.

Tip: Always bend knees and hips, keep the object close to the body, and never turn while lifting.

5. Using defective mattresses

  • Lying on a sagging or soft mattress will most likely disturb the spine and hyper-extend the back muscles during sleep.

Tip: Lie on a medium-firm mattress.

6. Sleeping on stomach

Lying on one’s stomach will most likely hyper-extend the neck and lower back as well.

Tip: Lie on a medium-firm mattress and experiment with lying on the side with a pillow between your knees to maintain the natural spinal alignment.

bitchy | George Clooney: ‘We’re going to get through it, but a lot of damage is going to be done’

by jummy84 October 8, 2025
written by jummy84

George Clooney covers the latest issue of Esquire, all to promote his latest movie, Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly. Clooney plays a movie star who wonders if he really showed up for the people in his life. I’ve seen some horrible reviews of the film, but Clooney has enough money and power to ensure that Jay Kelly still has “Oscar buzz.” For me, Clooney is permanently sh-tlisted after what he said and did last year (and this year) about Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. This Esquire interview emphasizes yet again that Clooney’s meddling and ratf–king was always just a political abstraction for him, he’s not actually living under the fascist conditions he helped facilitate. He lives full-time in England, France and Italy now. But of course he still has sh-t to say about American politics in this interview:

Performing Good Night, and Good Luck on Broadway: “I was really nervous, as an actor, which I hadn’t been in a long time… I mean, part of it was strictly age related. As you get older—I’m sixty-four—and as you get older, it doesn’t matter how many granola bars you eat; your brain starts to lock up. I had all these long monologues, and I was afraid of blowing my lines. So every single night for one hundred performances, I would do the whole play in the dressing room before I went onstage. I was so terrified.”

His twins are well-adjusted & they’re being raised in France: “Yeah, we’re very lucky. You know, we live on a farm in France. A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid I hated the whole idea of it. But now, for them, it’s like—they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life. I was worried about raising our kids in L. A., in the culture of Hollywood. I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life. France—they kind of don’t give a sh-t about fame. I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”

He came to fatherhood so late: “The only thing I feel lucky about is that I’m so much older that the idea that my son would be compared to me is pretty unlikely, because by the time he actually will have done anything, I’m gonna be gumming my bread.”

America will get through the bad times: “I do believe we get through these things, and if you think back to the times that have been really bad in the country—we’ve had them. I think ’68 was as bad as we could have had. Every city in the United States was on fire and rioting, and the capital was surrounded by armed guards to protect themselves. We killed Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy that year. There was the Tet Offensive…So if you look at it, you go, we’ve been in bad places before. Certainly the Civil War. So we’re going to get through it, but a lot of damage is going to be done along the way because of where we are. And it is heartbreaking to see. And Democrats are gonna have to get their act together— And they will. Coming out of the Iraq war and all that is what brought us Obama—brought us a really good leader. And we’re gonna need it.”

Whether he will ever write another NYT op-ed about a Democrat again: “I don’t think so. I think people have heard enough from me. I wasn’t doing it to, you know—I was doing it because I’d been a personal witness to things, and I also, quite honestly—[Clooney was interrupted].”

He did cocaine in the 1980s. “Eighty-two, I tried—I did blow and stuff. I used to make jokes about how I did too many drugs, but the truth is, it was never a big issue for me at all. And look, there was an episode of Taxi where they’re all doing blow. At the time, it was like, No, this is not like heroin. It’s not addictive. But then it was like, Oh, well, it’s actually pretty f–king bad. Plus, it was all cut with mannitol. The baby laxative. Everybody would do a line and then take a s–t.”

He’s always been a booze guy: “I’ve had periods where, I wouldn’t say it was a problem—I never woke up and drank or anything. But I’d have runs where I’d get pretty toasty every night.”

[From Esquire]

I think Clooney and the podbros say sh-t like “we’ve been through bad times before, we’ll get through them” to avoid taking responsibility for their ratf-cking. Oh, so NOW we should all get along, NOW we should come together? Where were those sentiments when we should have come together to stop this Trump authoritarianism from happening in the first place? Why hasn’t Clooney written a NYT op-ed about Trump’s age and dementia, you know? Where is the 24-7 nitpicking of Trump’s policies from that crew? Anyway, Clooney mostly ran back his greatest hits in this interview and it was just sad. He’s too old to function as a movie star anymore, he needs to step down. We can hold a primary to elect the next Clooney.

When you go out, do you always end up ordering carbonated soft drinks that are full of sugar? If yes, you may not be making the best choice for your overall health. Several studies have proven that consuming sugar-sweetened drinks can lead to health complications like weight gain, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, diabetes, tooth decay, and more.

But what is the alternative? Dr Saurabh Sethi, MD, MPH, a gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford Universities, revealed eight snacks that he recommends to his patients as alternatives to carbonated soft drinks, such as Coke and Pepsi.

8 better snacks to choose instead of sugar-sweetened drinks

Sharing the 8 snacks/drinks he recommends to his patients instead of Coke and Pepsi, Dr Sethi warned, “Sodas damage your gut and liver over time.” Let’s find out what other drinks you can have without harming your health:

1. Sparkling water with lime/lemon

Dr Sethi recommends sparkling water with lime/lemon as it has the same fizz that sugar carbonated drinks offer without the sugar or artificial sweeteners to damage your gut or liver.

2. Unsweetened iced tea

Polyphenols present in teas support gut and liver health without the sugar crash, per the gastroenterologist.

3. Infused water (with cucumber, mint, or berries, and more)

According to Dr Sethi, drinking infused water in place of soft drinks not only boosts hydration and provides antioxidants, but it is also a refreshing and natural alternative.

4. Kombucha (low-sugar variant)

Dr Sethi recommends kombucha because it contains fermented probiotics that support the gut microbiome.

5. Coconut water (no added sugar)

“Electrolytes + hydration[in coconut water] make it a natural alternative to soda,” the gastroenterologist wrote, as he recommended coconut water.

6. Green or black tea

Dr Sethi suggests having green or black tea with or without a splash of milk (dairy or plant-based) as the polyphenols and gentle caffeine present in them support gut and liver health.

7. Coffee

“Black or with a splash of milk (dairy or plant-based) → antioxidants linked to lower liver disease risk,” he recommended.

8. Plain water

Excess salt negatively impacts heart health. Typically, salt is associated with high blood pressure risks, but the dangers also extend to cardiovascular health. Dr Sameer Pagad, director of intervention cardiology at Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mumbai, shared with HT Lifestyle in an interview that with excessive sodium or salt intake, there’s a higher risk of developing heart diseases.

The cardiologist pointed out that a high-sodium diet targets the heart’s muscle function, disturbing the ability to pump blood. How it happens, he explained, “Sodium is found to thicken the heart walls, causing a condition known as left ventricular hypertrophy. As the condition progresses, the heart finds it difficult to pump blood efficiently. The sodium-rich diet also alters the calcium levels in the heart cells, affecting their ability to contract and relax, dramatically increasing the chances of heart failure.”

Now that you are aware of how high salt intake strains your heart, to the extent of affecting the heart’s main function, let’s see how you can reverse the ill effects of a sodium-rich diet if you have been on one for some time.

Dr Sameer Pagad recommended eating potassium-rich foods to reverse sodium’s effects. He said, “Eat potassium-rich foods, including vegetables such as spinach, amaranth, fenugreek, bottle gourd, pumpkin, etc. Also consume fruits like banana, guava, oranges or mosambi, pomegranate and papaya. Include pulses like moong, masoor, chana, and rajma in your diet.”

Along with this, for hydration, he suggested adding a glass of tender coconut water to your routine.

Now what about non-vegetarians? For them, the cardiologist recommended eating foods that contain Omega-3 fatty acids. Elaborating more about the sources, “Non-vegetarians should consume fish rich in omega-3 fats, which are considered to be anti-arrhythmic and cardioprotective. One to two meals a week can be inclusive of sardines, bangda, Indian salmon or raavas.”

All in all, the cardiologist advised to prioritise naturally available foods over supplements, and suggested personal consultation with a cardiologist or a dietician before changing or adding anything to your diet.

What is the safe limit for salt intake?

Even if you decide to add salt to your food for the purpose of taste, make sure it is within the safe limit. According to Dr Sameer Pagad, reducing even 1g of salt intake in your diet can substantially improve the blood pressure levels. He added, “If you want to keep your heart healthy, limit your sodium intake to approximately 2 g per day and reduce the chances of developing hypertension, arrhythmias, coronary events, stroke or heart failure.”

Maintaining low-salt intake along with eating potassium-rich foods helps to protect your cardiovascular health in the long run.
