As we age, it is essential to focus on a balanced diet rich in protein, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats, while limiting processed foods, sugary drinks, and excessive unhealthy fats. But do you want to know about specific foods that can help keep your dad healthy and strong? Also read | 5 superfoods you must include in your diet

Allicin in garlic is the magic compound that helps lower cholesterol.(pixabay)

In a November 4 Instagram post, nutritionist Shalini Sudhakar shared her advice on improving men’s health through the daily consumption of three superfoods. According to her, you should ask your father to consume roasted garlic cloves first thing in the morning on an empty stomach to reduce cholesterol and protect heart health, as roasting them in ghee activates the beneficial allicin compound.

Shalini also recommended eating soaked fenugreek (methi) seeds before each meal to control sugar levels and safeguard organs like the pancreas and liver due to their galactomannan content. She further advised fathers to consume roasted pumpkin seeds an hour before bed for better sleep, joint strength, and cancer prevention, crediting the omega-3, selenium, and lignans within the seeds.

‘When and how to consume are very important’

“If you really care about your father’s health, ensure that he is consuming these three superfoods every day. Making him listen is very difficult, but you have to do it. When to consume – and how to consume – is very important, so don’t miss out on that… take very good care of the man who carried you in his heart and on his shoulder.”

Here’s what Shalini suggested:

6-8 roasted garlic pods on an empty stomach in the early morning

“The allicin in garlic is very important to reduce the cholesterol level and protect his heart health. Roast the garlic in two to three drops of desi ghee to activate the allicin compound, making it very effective,” she said.

Soaked methi seeds

Shalini added, “He needs the galactomannan to control the sugar levels and protect his pancreas, kidneys and liver. Take three teaspoons of methi seeds and soak them overnight. Ask him to have one teaspoon of methi seeds 15 minutes before breakfast, lunch and dinner.”

Roasted pumpkin seeds

“The omega-3 and selenium will prevent any kind of joint pains and nervous weakness and strengthen the joints and the bones. Most importantly, the lignans in pumpkin seeds will prevent cancer. Dry roast pumpkin seeds and ask him to have one tablespoon 1 hour before going to bed. It will also help him sleep much better,” she concluded.

Hyderabad oncologist explains whether your daily deodorant habit could really cause cancer or if it’s just a myth

Worried your deodorant could cause cancer? Hyderabad oncologist Dr Saadvik Raghuram breaks down the science and explains why the risk is largely theoretical.

We all love starting our day fresh, right? A quick shower, a swipe of deodorant, and we’re good to go. But what if that everyday habit you barely think about could actually be putting you at risk? Dr Saadvik Raghuram, an oncologist based in Hyderabad, shares in his October 28 Instagram post that your deodorant habit could be a hidden cancer risk.

Dr. Raghuram reassures that everyday deodorant use is safe and not linked to cancer risk. (Freepik)

Could your deodorant cause hormonal changes

“Regular deodorants often contain chemicals like aluminium and parabens. When applied, these ingredients temporarily block sweat ducts. Some theories suggest that this blockage could trigger hormonal changes. Since deodorants are applied near the underarm, close to breast tissue, people have worried that this might increase the risk of breast cancer,” he says.

However, Dr Raghuram emphasises that this is largely a theoretical concern. “While the idea is often discussed, research and multiple studies have not found any solid evidence linking normal deodorant use to breast cancer or any other type of cancer. The risk remains theoretical, it hasn’t been proven in real life,” he clarifies.

Is there any link between deodorant and cancer

He adds that it’s natural to be cautious about the products we use, but everyday deodorant use is considered safe. “It’s always good to stay informed and read labels,” Dr Raghuram continues, “but there’s no reason to panic or stress over your deodorant. The science simply does not support a real cancer risk from standard use.”

In short, your daily swipe of deodorant is safe, and worrying unnecessarily can just add stress. Staying clean, confident, and informed is the real key, your deodorant isn’t the hidden culprit some make it out to be.

Harvard doctor shares 7 science-backed ways to upgrade daily coffee: ‘Those who drink before noon are 16% less…’

Coffee is often an integral part of several people’s morning routine, as the caffeine boost helps improve alertness and focus. Though a hot cuppa holds many benefits for your overall wellbeing, taking your coffee the wrong way can do more harm than good.

What we do with our coffee – how we brew it, when we drink it and what we put inside it – can have an outsize impact on our health. (Adobe Stock)

So, how can you best optimise your daily dose of coffee so that it not only satisfies your cravings but also is not bad for your health? Harvard doctor-scientist Trisha Pasricha, MD, MPH, shared 7 science-backed tips in an October 22 Instagram post to upgrade your coffee. Here’s what she suggests:

7 best science-backed ways to drink your coffee

Dr Trisha highlighted that according to National Health and Nutrition Examination survey data, around 75 percent of US adults drink coffee. Therefore, it is vital to know the best way to consume it.

Doctor advises against drinking coffee first thing in the morning, as it may heighten stress and disrupt metabolism.(Pixabay)

According to the expert, what we do with our coffee – how we brew it, when we drink it and what we put inside it – can have an outsize impact on our health. Why? Because those habits form part of a ritual, many of us enjoy them multiple times a day. Here’s her advice:

1. Add no more than 1 teaspoon of sugar per cup

“A major 2022 study found that people who drank unsweetened coffee were less likely to die than those who didn’t drink coffee-for them, even drinking more than 4 ½ cups per day was linked to living longer,” Dr Trisha noted.

But don’t worry, according to the expert, people who lightly sweetened their coffee with just a single teaspoon also experienced a mortality benefit.

2. Think twice about artificial sweeteners

Citing another 2022 study, Dr Trisha highlighted that “artificial sweeteners seemed to negate the positive pattern seen among drinkers of sugar-sweetened or unsweetened coffee, even after accounting for the presence of diabetes and other factors.”

She added, “The data are still emerging, but a growing body of literature suggests that we shouldn’t assume sugar substitutes are a healthier choice for everyone.”

3. Avoid ultra-processed coffee creamers

If you use creamers in your coffee, beware, because the primary ingredient in many popular, seasonally flavoured creamers is usually some form of vegetable oil, like palm or soybean. Dr Trisha noted that they also have another 1 to 2 teaspoons’ worth of added sugars per tablespoon.

So, next time you’re standing in the dairy aisle, read the creamer labels carefully, she suggested. “If you’re still craving cosy #PSL (pumpkin spice latte) vibes, try adding a dash of cinnamon to your cup.”

4. Use your French press sparingly

Drinking 3 to 5 cups of espresso daily or 6 or more cups of French press coffee daily, according to Dr Trisha, was associated with elevated cholesterol levels due to diterpenes. “Diterpenes can raise cholesterol by decreasing the liver’s ability to remove low-density lipoproteins. Paper filters better trap diterpenes and keep them out of your cup,” she explained.

5. Instant and decaf coffee are still great

According to a 2022 study, Dr Trisha noted, ground coffee, instant coffee, and decaffeinated coffee were all similarly beneficial. “Instant coffee and coffee pods are technically filtered. Instant coffee is brewed filtered coffee that gets industrially dried into granules, and coffee pods contain a small filter on the inside,” Dr Trisha added.

6. Get your coffee in early

Referring a 2025 study of over 40,000 American men and women, Dr Trisha noted that those who drank their coffee primarily before noon – as opposed to sipping throughout the day, including the afternoon or evening – were 16 percent less likely to die of all causes.

“Heavy consumption of coffee in the afternoon and evening blocks the secretion of melatonin by about 30 percent. But the health risks of chronic disturbances to our circadian rhythm are far-reaching – and may be more related to inflammation than simply sleep quality,” she explained.

7. Plan on that bowel movement

Lastly, she noted another benefit of drinking coffee, pointing out a bodily function known as gastrocolic reflex: It’s a physiological phenomenon by which substances enter the stomach and, within minutes, trigger contractions in the colon.

She explained that because of it, people often experience the urge to have a bowel movement shortly after meals, which, of course, can cause some social discomfort but is perfectly healthy and normal.

“Coffee is a potent trigger of the gastrocolic reflex in many people. If this describes you, plan your routine accordingly,” Dr Trisha highlighted.

Are you walking the right way? Study reveals the best pace for your daily walks

by jummy84 October 28, 2025

You may be walking wrong, even if you hit 10,000 steps daily. The pace you set is just as important as how many steps you take.

Hitting the daily 10k is regarded as a bare minimum for fitness and good health to ensure you avoid a sedentary lifestyle. But are you doing your bare minimum right? A study published in Annals of Internal Medicine on October 28, 2025, revealed that how you take your steps matters just as much. And by this, it means the pace you set as you are walking is as important as the total number of steps you take. So, don’t fret if you are unable to reach the designated 10k step count and instead focus on improving the pace.

Know which pace is right for you. (Picture credit: Shutterstock)

ALSO READ: Just 15 minutes of brisk walking a day may cut death risk by 20%, study finds

What should be the ideal pace?

As per the research, you benefit from your daily walks more if you go for longer, continuous stretches, instead of shorter, interrupted bouts. The researchers examined the participants and found that those who walked for 15 minutes or more at a stretch had a much lower risk of heart disease and early death. Those who walked 15 minutes or more continuously without stopping had just 0.8 per cent deaths and 4.39 per cent chances of heart disease. This is in contrast to those whose continuous stretches of walking lasted only 5 minutes or less, 4.36 per cent of early deaths, while 13.03 per cent developed heart disease.

Walk smarter to reap real benefits. (Picture credit: Made with Gemini AI)

What does this mean?

This means the longer you walk, the healthier your heart becomes. And it’s not just about hitting the 10,000 step mark; what really matters is how you choose to walk. Make sure your pace is continuous and not constantly interrupted by breaks or pauses. Even those who are relatively sedentary, walking fewer than 5,000 steps a day, can still gain heart health benefits if they walk for longer stretches at a time.

In other words, your daily walk shouldn’t be a slow walk at a leisurely pace, like a stroll in the garden. To truly help your heart, aim for at least a steady 10-15 continuous pace without stopping at all.

Daily Wire’s ‘Pendragon Cycle’ Fantasy Series Gets Trailer

by jummy84 October 17, 2025
written by jummy84

The Daily Wire has released a trailer for its first live-action scripted series, The Pendragon Cycle: Rise of the Merlin.

The fantasy drama, based on a series of novels by Stephen R. Lawhead, is set to premiere Jan. 22 on DailyWire+, the conservative outlet’s SVOD platform. The show, created and executive produced by Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing (who also directed some of the series), is a retelling of Arthurian legend that’s set in the Roman-dominated land that will eventually become Britain during the fourth through sixth centuries.

Watch the trailer below.

In a statement, Boreing said The Pendragon Cycle is “the culmination of a 10-year vision to create culture, not just to criticize it. Lawhead’s novels present a visceral, masculine Christianity in a world of conflict and mystery. It isn’t saccharine or clean. In short, it is very much like our world. I’m so happy to share our adaptation, and the work of our remarkable cast and crew, with the Daily Wire audience.”

The Daily Wire has produced a number of feature films (both scripted and documentary) and a couple of animated series, but The Pendragon Cycle represents the biggest swing for the company, which Boreing founded with Ben Shapiro, in the TV arena.

Tom Sharp stars as Merlin in the series. The cast also includes Rose Reid, James Arden, Finney Cassidy, Myles Clohessy, Brett Cooper, Alex Laurence Phillips, Daniel Fathers and Emree Franklin.

Boreing executive produces with Shapiro, Daily Wire CEO Caleb Robinson Dallas Sonnier of Bonfire Legend, Daniel Kresmery of Hero Squared, and Ryan Whitaker for Tirian Films. Producers are Travis Mills, Jonathan Hay, Amanda Presmyk, Jonathan Halperyn, Jerilyn Esquibel, Augusto Pelliccia, Julius Nasso and Lawhead. Whitaker and Jesse V. Johnson also directed episodes of the series.

World Spine Day 2025: Neurosurgeon shares 6 daily habits that damage your spine: Sleeping on stomach, soft mattress

World Spine Day 2025: 16 October is observed as World Spine Day to raise awareness regarding spinal health. This year’s theme is ‘invest in your spine.’ On this observance day, let’s take a closer look at some of the daily harmful habits.

Long hours of sitting at work is hazardous to your spinal health. (Picture credit: Freepik)

ALSO READ: Spine surgeon warns Indians not to ignore back pain until it’s too late, reveals who all ‘should be extra careful’

To understand how some common habits may impact spinal health, Dr Gaurav Batra, neurosurgeon of brain and spine at Max Super Speciality Hospital at Vaishali, shared with HT Lifestyle, that one needs to take care of the spine as it is the very bedrock of the body’s architecture, responsible for the majority of movements. But nowadays, some daily habits put spinal health at risk, causing severe backache.

“Back pain will also accumulate slowly and will become increasingly worse. Most stress that is acquired from posture, ergonomics, and habit can be avoided by being aware,” he emphasised. “Minor adjustments in how we sit, move, and sleep can have a big difference in how it keeps a healthy, ache-free spine.” To fix your back pain, you need to change some habits.

Dr Batra shared these five habits that quietly destabilise your spine, along with one pro tip for each on how you can rectify them:

1. Long sitting and posture

Make sure your posture is correct when you sit at work. (Picture credit: Freepik)
Make sure your posture is correct when you sit at work. (Picture credit: Freepik)
  • Hours of sitting, and particularly with a curved back and bowing neck, puts the lower back under tremendous tension.
  • Gradually, the constant tension seeps into the muscles of the spine, represses disc nutrition, and hastens wear and tear. The consequence is nagging stiffness of the back, fatigue, and even disc prolapse.

Tip: Sit with support for your lower back, screen at eye level, and take hourly moving breaks.

2. Excessive smartphone use

  • Repetition of neck flexion for extended periods of time spent on a phone can multiply the cervical spine’s load hundreds of times.
  • This is commonly referred to as ‘tech neck’, which results in neck pain, shoulder stiffness, and premature cervical spondylosis.

Tip: Phone at eye level with two-handed support, and intersperse gentle neck stretches during practice.

3. Having a sedentary lifestyle

  • A sedentary lifestyle weakens the deep spinal stabilising muscles, such as the back extensors and core.
  • This loads the discs and ligaments mechanically, resulting in chronic low back pain and deteriorated posture.

Tip: Regular stretching, strengthening, and brisk walking restore spinal balance and endurance.

4. Picking up objects the incorrect way

  • Bending at the waist to lift heavy objects places extreme stress on the lower back and may result in disc injury or abrupt muscle spasm.

Tip: Always bend knees and hips, keep the object close to the body, and never turn while lifting.

5. Using defective mattresses

  • Lying on a sagging or soft mattress will most likely disturb the spine and hyper-extend the back muscles during sleep.

Tip: Lie on a medium-firm mattress.

6. Sleeping on stomach

Lying on one’s stomach will most likely hyper-extend the neck and lower back as well.

Tip: Lie on a medium-firm mattress and experiment with lying on the side with a pillow between your knees to maintain the natural spinal alignment.

bitchy | Samantha Markle calls out TMZ & the Daily Mail for the ‘Thomas is fine’ stories

by jummy84 October 5, 2025
written by jummy84

This week, Samantha Markle popped up online to claim that her father, Thomas Markle, was stuck in a building in the Philippines following a massive earthquake in the country. Samantha put the blame squarely on the Duchess of Sussex’s shoulders, because clearly, if Meghan would only allow the white trash side of her family to exploit her, then Toxic Tom wouldn’t be in the Philippines in the first place. Well, funny story. Toxic Tom called up TMZ and said Samantha was lying. I added an update with the TMZ link in the post a few days ago, but here’s the story:

Thomas tells TMZ … he’s safe in his hotel room, and in no way is he “trapped” and “unable to walk” … claims made by his daughter Samantha Markle on X, in which she said her dad was stuck on the 19th floor of a building after a massive 6.9-magnitude earthquake shook the province of Cebu on Monday.

Thomas tells us his hotel wasn’t even impacted by the quake at all, adding “The epicenter was 100 miles from here.”

As for his daughter Samantha’s claims, Thomas says he hasn’t even spoken to Samantha, so he isn’t sure why she claimed he was trapped.

Instead, TM insists he’s living pretty well, adding … “I’m currently sitting on the couch in my hotel room, with my feet kicked up and watching Charlie Chan movies. I’m quite comfortable.”

[From TMZ]

Many outlets updated their stories, and some outlets devoted new pieces on what seemed like a breakdown in communications between batsh-t crazy father and daughter. The Daily Mail did a new story in which they linked back to TMZ and basically called Samantha crazy.

Well, funny story. Samantha is now calling out the Daily Mail, and she’s posted a bunch of text messages between herself and the Daily Mail editor Caroline Graham, who was in the Philippines with Thomas Markle? Previously, Graham also moved down to Rosita, Mexico to coach Tom and exploit him against Meghan. Samantha is also calling out TMZ and saying that Thomas never spoke to them either? Here’s my larger question: why the f–k is the Daily Mail’s Caroline Graham still *this* invested in Thomas Markle? They’ve already proven that they can get him to repeat their unhinged scripts, they’ve already paid him to sell out every single thing about Meghan. It’s been seven and a half years since Meghan cut him off – she’s not going to suddenly change her mind. This is sunk-cost fallacy on the Mail’s part.

bitchy | The Daily Mail sent reporters to Montecito to stalk the Sussexes during Trump’s visit

by jummy84 September 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Yesterday, we talked about the Duchess of Sussex’s quiet September. Meghan and her As Ever team have only posted a few Instagram pics this month, and there have been no big announcements. Meghan was very quiet while Prince Harry was in the UK and Ukraine, but I expected her to post about all of the lovely Ukrainian gifts Harry brought back. She hasn’t. I did think it was interesting timing when, on Wednesday, As Ever posted a new pic of Meghan. That was in the heat of the Trump state visit. Well, it looks like the Daily Mail also hoped that the Sussexes would do or say something this week. They weren’t content with simply covering the left-behinds as they entertained an orange fascist. No, the Mail sent reporters TO Montecito specifically to stalk the Sussexes.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were laying low in Montecito as the rest of his family lived the highest of high life at Wednesday’s State banquet for visiting President Donald Trump and Melania. After weeks in the headlines amid Harry’s recent high-profile visit to London and Meghan basking in the spotlight from her season two launch on Netflix, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were keeping out of sight at their California mansion, Daily Mail can reveal.

The typically spotlight-hungry couple have been uncharacteristically quiet in Montecito this week 5,000-plus miles from where it was all happening in Windsor Castle. As his brother the Prince of Wales dined on boneless free-range chicken wrapped in zucchini – or Ballotine de Poulet Fermier en Robe de Courgettes, as the pretentious French menu termed it – Harry and his wife were nowhere to be seen.

Their retreat is a departure for the Sussexes who have made a habit of upstaging big royal moments with events of their own. Instead, the former Suits actress, 44, has been conspicuous by her absence from social media – nothing but an Instagram post for her husband’s 41st birthday on Monday – and there has been no sign of the couple in their adopted hometown for days after Harry’s return.

Both Meghan and Harry have become a familiar sight in the tony seaside city but appeared to have gone to ground when the Daily Mail visited Montecito this week.

Swank delicatessen Pierre La Fond, where Meghan has previously been photographed, was a Sussex-free zone, as were other favorites such as Lucky’s Steakhouse and upscale boutique Wendy Foster. Even at the sugar sand Miramar Beach – where the pair have been spotted walking their dogs and enjoying surf classes – they were off the radar.

The timing has fueled speculation on whether Harry and Meghan may have been snubbed or are deliberately keeping out of sight to avoid Trump’s wrath.

According to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, that’s because the pair are wary of stealing the spotlight from President Trump who has the power to make life difficult for them should he be angered. ‘I’d be surprised if the Sussexes do anything this week that might annoy,’ Fitzwilliams told Daily Mail. ‘The British put on such a ceremonial show. I mean I’ve been watching this. It is amazing and it’s intentionally amazing and intentionally designed to impress President Trump. If the Sussexes made a move that distracted us, as they have from time to time when there been important royal events, it would be not only be outrageous, but it would draw Trump’s eye.’

[From The Daily Mail]

I won’t lie, I’ve been surprised by Meghan’s silence this month too. I wouldn’t mind if she dropped some big announcement, but I understand why she didn’t, just as I understand why Harry and Meghan mostly ignored the orange mess in the UK. Now, I find it absolutely insane that the Daily Mail is openly admitting that they sent reporters to Montecito to stalk all of Harry and Meghan’s favorite spots. It has to be asked for the millionth time: if the left-behinds really are soaking up all of the global attention, why is the British media still obsessively stalking the Sussexes’ every move? Did the Mail’s editors take one look at Kate’s ridiculous doll wig and order their US-based reporters to drive to Montecito forthwith?

Jon Stewart Reacts to Jimmy Kimmel Suspension on ‘The Daily Show’ (VIDEO)

Jon Stewart headlined a special episode of The Daily Show on Thursday (September 18) night and, as expected, the 25-time Emmy winner reacted to the news that ABC suspended fellow late-night host Jimmy Kimmel Live! in the midst of pressure from the Federal Communications Commission chair. Only, instead of addressing the issue head-on with a directly scathing monologue or thoughtful speech on censorship, Stewart took his uniquely satirical approach to the matter.

In the opening act of the episode (embedded above), Stewart spent 23 straight minutes cosplaying as a North Korea-style media sycophant of Donald Trump, shivering with unbridled enthusiasm for the president and finding kind words to say about every possible situation involving Trump.

Dubbing himself a “patriotically obedient host,” Stewart reacted to all of the highlights of Trump’s overseas visit to the United Kingdom — especially the most awkward moments of his state dinner with Great Britain’s royal family — with utter adulation.

“Father has been gracing England with his legendary warmth and radiance. Gaze upon him with a gait even more majestic than that of the royal horses that pranced before him, he wowed the English with charm, intelligence, and an undeniable sexual charisma that filled their air like a pheromone-packed London fog,” Stewart joked of Trump’s appearance. “And as part of this historic trip, the perfectly-tinted Trump dazzled his hosts at dinner with a demonstration of his unmatched oratory skill.”

Stewart continued the schtick of lavishing praise upon Trump for the next few minutes, pretending to be sheepishly afraid that he, too, might face the wrath of the administration’s FCC chair, before touching on the Kimmel situation directly… er, indirectly, as the case may be.

“Now the visit to England couldn’t have gone better for our president. Finally, a country affording our great leader the respect and deference that any sun god would command,” he said, before introducing a clip of a British journalist asking, “We saw the dismissal of a very well-known chat show host in America last night, Mr. Kimmel. Is free speech more under attack in Britain or America?” To that, Stewart responded with feigned outrage, “How dare you, sir?! How dare you, sir?! What outfit are you with, sir, the Antifa Herald Tribune? Why I wouldn’t even line my parrot’s cage with your rag. There’s a very reasonable explanation for what befell this scallywag, Kimmel.”

Stewart then played a clip of Trump reacting to the news himself to say, “Well, Jimmy Kimmel was fired because he had bad ratings more than anything else, and he said a horrible thing about a great gentleman known as Charlie Kirk. And Jimmy Kimmel is not a talented person. He had very bad ratings, and they should have fired him a long time ago. So you know, you can call that free speech or not.”

After momentarily dropping the guise and yelling at Trump’s still image to “shut the f**k up,” Stewart resumed his subservient character performance to say, “You may call it free speech in jolly old England, but in America, we have little something called the First Amendment. And let me tell you how it works. It’s a completely scientific instrument that is kept on the president’s desk, and it tells the president when a performer’s TQ talent portion, measured mostly by niceness to the president, goes below a certain level, at which point the FCC must be notified to threaten the acquisition prospects for billion-dollar mergers of network affiliates. These affiliates are then asked to give ultimatums to the even larger mega corporation that controls the flow of state-approved content, or the FCC can just threaten those licenses directly. It’s basic science.”

Watch the above-embedded clip for Jon Stewart’s full opening segment on Thursday’s The Daily Show edition.
