Hallmark’s Yan-Kay Crystal Lowe Reveals Cancer Diagnosis

by jummy84 October 11, 2025
written by jummy84

Hallmark Channel star Yan-Kay Crystal Lowe revealed a “scary” major health diagnosis when she shared in an essay that she has stage 3 breast cancer.

In a Friday, October 10 essay for People, the Canadian actress, 44, announced the news and opened up about her cancer journey.

Lowe is best known for the Hallmark TV-movie series Signed, Sealed, Delivered as well as titles like Marry Me at Christmas (2017), Christmas at Holly Lodge (2017), and Flip That Romance (2019). She also notably appeared in Final Destination 3, Center Stage: Turn It Up, and The L Word, among other films.

“In February of 2025, while getting ready one morning, I noticed a large mass in my right breast,” she wrote. “In that moment, everything else fell away.”

Initially, Lowe said she thought she might have sprained a muscle while working. She notified her doctor, who ordered a mammogram and guided ultrasound, but “found nothing.” The mass on her breast was still there months later. However, it had changed location and size.

“I didn’t feel any pain, but my nipple became inverted, so I went back to the doctor,” the mom of two, who shares a 9-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son with her husband, Miko Tomasevich, explained. “The mass measured 10 centimeters. This time, my doctor wasn’t so casual; I was rushed for a blind biopsy. “

Days later, her doctor told her she had invasive carcinoma in one of the ducts in her breast. “I still remember getting off the phone, curling up into a ball, and just bawling,” she recalled.

On October 10, Lowe also took to Instagram to announce her breast cancer diagnosis with a link to her essay.

“Some news to share. I truly hope this helps other people going through this journey right now,” she captioned her update. “It’s been tough but I know I’ll get through it. This is the beginning. Not the end. And if you want to follow my journey I welcome you along.”

Lowe’s Instagram followers flooded her with words of encouragement in the comments, with Tamera Mowry writing, “We love you Crystal 🙏🏽❤️.”

Pretty Little Liars star Janel Parrish shared, “You’re amazing 🤍🤍🤍.:

When Calls the Heart actor Viv Leacock declared, “All that strength, grace and wisdom!!! Cancer picked the wrong one to mess with!!! Love you lots, lil sis!!!”

Heartland actress Cindy Busby commented, “Sending you all my love and healing! ❤️‍🩹 💪🙏💫.”

Meanwhile, another When Calls the Heart star, Pascale Hutton, wrote, “Sending you so much love Crystal. ❤️.”

In her essay, Lowe also detailed her cancer treatment journey so far, which has included chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, radiation, and “eventually, implants.”

“When I called Annie Howell at Hallmark to tell her the news, I was terrified. What if I never work again? What if they forget me?” she wrote. “But nothing could be further from the truth. Annie and the entire Hallmark family embraced me fully, and told me that they had my back.”

Later, Lowe reflected on her cancer story, writing, “This journey has been scary, strange, and humbling. It has stripped me down in ways I never saw coming, physically, emotionally and spiritually. And yet… I promise to persevere. To turn poison into medicine. To grow. That’s what I’m learning every single day.”

“Which one of us will be the new Emperor?” Fathom Entertainment has unveiled a new trailer for the 2025 re-release of the 1980s fantasy classic movie The Dark Crystal, made by Frank Oz & Jim Henson and The Jim Henson Company. Featuring puppets and creatures galore, it’s considered a favorite with many movie geeks who grew up in the 80s. This screening is part of The Jim Henson Company’s 70th Anniversary celebration and features an introduction from Brian Henson, Jim Henson’s son & Chairman of the Board of The Henson Company. The Dark Crystal originally opened in 1982 and celebrated its 40th Anniversary back in 2022 (it’s out on 4K Blu-ray). Jen and Kira, surviving members of the Gelfling tribe, set out to find the crystal’s missing shard and begin a dangerous journey that will bring them face to face with evil Skeksis and mysterious creatures at every turn. Jen and Kira will not back down as they race the clock to save their planet in this masterful live-action fantasy starring some of the most imaginative creatures ever put on film. Starring Stephen Garlick, Lisa Maxwell, Billie Whitelaw, & Percy Edwards. After waiting decades, they finally made a new legacy sequel The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance which is also available on Netflix now. The OG 1982 classic will be back in theaters for two nights only this October – take the kids! Have fun.

Another world, another time… in the age of Wonder. From genius filmmaker Jim Henson comes The Dark Crystal, a masterful live-action fantasy starring some of the most imaginative creatures ever put on film. Many years ago, the mysterious “Crystal” was cracked and an age of chaos began, led by the evil race of Skeksis who rule over the land of Thra. Meanwhile, raised in solitude by a gentle race of creatures called the Mystics, the Gelfling orphan Jen is sent on a quest to find the missing shard that will heal the Crystal and restore balance to the universe. The Dark Crystal is co-directed by two Henson Company filmmakers Jim Henson & Frank Oz, their third feature film at the time following The Muppet Movie (1979) and The Great Muppet Caper (1981). The screenplay is written by David Odell; from a story by Henson. Produced by Jim Henson & Gary Kurtz. Originally released by Universal Pictures in US theaters starting in December 1982 – earning just about $40M in its original run. Fathom Entertainment will re-release The Dark Crystal back in US theaters for two nights only: on October 12th & 13th, 2025 coming up this fall. Who’s going?

The Dark Crystal Returning to Theaters

by jummy84 August 27, 2025
written by jummy84

The Dark Crystal, one of the most inventive films to come from The Jim Henson Company (and by far the most terrifying), will return to theaters for a limited run October 12th and 13th.

Directed by Henson and Frank Oz, the Muppet fantasy epic traces a clash between the brutal Skeksis and the gentle Mystics, with Gelflings like Jen and Kira stuck in the middle. There are horrifying crab creatures, pulse-pounding chase scenes, and more than one on-screen murder — perfect for expanding a young child’s mind while funding the lifestyle of their future therapist.

Tickets for the two-day run are available via Fathom Entertainment.

Slay Raché Isn’t Here for Your Halfway Love — and “Good Thing” Makes That Crystal Clear

Slay Raché Isn’t Here for Your Halfway Love — and “Good Thing” Makes That Crystal Clear

by jummy84 August 22, 2025

Some songs feel like silk sheets slipping off your shoulders—Good Thing is not that song. Slay Raché’s latest release doesn’t whisper; it stares you down, wipes its tears, and walks out the door in slow motion.

After sending late-night pulses with her last single “After Hours,” the genre-blurring artist returns with “Good Thing,” a track that shot straight to the top of Amazon Music and claimed the coveted #1 spot overall. But don’t mistake this rise for a fluke—this is Slay Raché’s world.

Inspired in part by the vibe of Normani and Cardi B’s “Wild Side,” the creative process for Good Thing began with a spark that quickly evolved into something entirely new. The result is a dusky, stripped-back anthem of self-worth, carried by vocals so raw you can hear the healing. Co-written and produced by L for 3redshoes Inc., the track delivers the tension between hurt and empowerment with unflinching clarity.

Raché has always been one to thread confidence through vulnerability, but Good Thing marks a personal evolution. “It’s freedom. Freedom in not being afraid to be vulnerable. Freedom in walking away.” There’s an emotional weight here that lingers—like mascara smudged on a love note you never sent.

Sonically, the track departs from the ambient hum of “After Hours,” giving Raché space to explore something more naked, more resolute. The production doesn’t hide behind gimmicks—it breathes. And in that breath, Raché stretches vocally, exploring new pockets of emotion with near-hypnotic restraint.

“I want people to feel like they’re reclaiming something,” she says. “It’s the kind of emotion you’re almost embarrassed to admit.” And maybe that’s the magic—how Good Thing makes the private feel cinematic. Think: rainy sidewalks, heartache in your headphones, a main character moment that’s all yours.

If After Hours was your post-party echo, Good Thing is your 3AM reckoning. Not quite a club track—unless you’re the one crying in the corner—it exists in that soft, introspective zone. The kind of song you loop on a walk just to feel something deeper.

Visually, the aesthetic world of Good Thing lives somewhere between bedroom daydreams and fashion-forward candor. Styled by her longtime creative partner and manager L, Slay wears a funky knit sweater layered over a Whitney tee—casual but considered, like everything she does. “It’s very me,” she says, “chill, but still fun.”

The song is also a taste of what’s coming. “I’m planning a larger project, and this is definitely a glimpse,” she teases. “It shows off my sonic variety, which I love.” We can’t help but wonder what corners of emotion she’ll explore next—but one thing’s for sure: she’s in full control of the ride.

As for what she’s manifesting? “My full creative potential—as a vocalist, artist, dancer, and performer. I just want to work hard, be my best, and not get in my own way.”

With Good Thing, Slay Raché isn’t just leveling up—she’s drawing the blueprint for what modern emotional pop should feel like: unfiltered, feminine, and utterly fearless.
