Matt Rife Sets Holiday-Themed Crowd Work Special on Netflix

Christmas is coming early for Matt Rife fans.

The superstar comedian has teamed with Netflix for a surprise holiday special, Matt Rife: Unwrapped — A Christmas Crowd Work Special, set to debut across the globe on Dec. 2. With Unwrapped, Rife “explores gifts, traditions and who’s made it on the naughty or nice list this year,” per the streamer. Directed by good friend and fellow comedian Erik Griffin, the special was taped in Phoenix, Arizona. Rife also executive produced along with Christina Shams. His company, Carpe Noctem, produced the special along with Avesta Entertainment and Above Average.

Third time’s a charm for Rife, too, as it marks three straight for Netflix following Matt Rife: Natural Selection and Matt Rife: Lucid — A Crowd Work Special. The former, released Nov. 15, 2023, landed in the Top 10 in 42 countries, hit the top spot in the United States, Canada and South Africa and became the most viewed Netflix special for the latter half of 2023. After it debuted, Rife stayed in the Netflix fold by signing a deal for two specials and a development deal for a series to write and star in. He made good on the specials pact with Lucid, which debuted Aug. 13, 2024, and hit the global Top 10 again for two weeks.

News of the special comes as Rife is currently in the midst of an ongoing global tour, Matt Rife: Stay Golden, with dates this weekend in Michigan. He’s been continually selling out as he criss-crosses the states and international locations. He sold out two shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden and set sales records for Columbus’ Nationwide Arena and various arenas across North America including Seattle, Manchester, Anaheim, Calif. and more.

His other specials include the self-produced and distributed Only Fans, Matthew Steven Rife, Walking Red Flag, all of which helped propel him to this sort of homegrown superstar status. Rife has recently branched out from the stand-up stage to other forms of entertainment. He released a New York Times bestseller last year, Your Mom’s Gonna Love Me. The Simon & Schuster memoir trackes his journey to become an in-demand comedian before the age of 30 with musings on depression, failure, success and family.

On the acting front, he’s got a full slate. He is set to star opposite Owen Wilson in Jeremy Garelick’s Rolling Loud for Live Nation and American High. He also snagged a role in the eight episode limited series The Altruists (starring Anthony Boyle and Julia Garner) from Graham Moore and Jacqueline Hoyt about the collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX.

For Wedding Crashers helmer David Dobkin, he’ll topline The Escort, and will star, co-write and produce The Chasm, a feature mockumentary comedy with Skydance Sports that follows an overconfident climber who chooses to proceed solo on a historic and potentially fatal rock climb. It was announced that he was set to star opposite Emma Roberts in Marriage Material for Trish Sie. His other credits include Netflix’s comedy series Mo opposite Mo Amer and Private Eye.

Will Smith Accused Of Using AI Clips Of Crowd In Fake Concert Footage

Will Smith is facing backlash after fans accused him of using AI-generated footage in a recent Instagram post promoting his Based On A True Story Tour.

The video, shared on Aug. 12, shows Smith performing his motivational anthem “You Can Make It” in front of what appears to be a massive, adoring crowd, complete with waving signs and fans singing along.

In the clip, Smith is seen walking along the stage, eventually climbing a barricade as the camera pans to dozens of cheering concertgoers.

Many fans are holding signs, some featuring personal messages and tributes about how the star’s music and story have impacted their lives. Alongside the video, Smith captioned, “My favorite part of tour is seeing you all up close.”

However, viewers were quick to question the authenticity of the crowd, pointing out unnatural elements like extra fingers, distorted faces, and inconsistent hand shapes — hallmarks of generative AI content.

One skeptical user wrote, “Imagine using AI and generating a sign about Cancer. This is absolute [clown] behavior.” Another added, “An AI crowd being posted on the official page is maaaad embarrassing.”

A third fan quipped, “Fresh Prince of A.I. – The Bounce Back. This is awful,” while another chimed in,
“This use of AI is INSANE and downright sad.”

While the criticism mounted, others offered a more forgiving interpretation, suggesting the visual distortions could be the result of upscaling lower-resolution footage, rather than artificial generation.

Smith did not specify which show the footage came from, but it likely originates from one of his recent European stops — either Smukfest in Denmark on Aug. 7 or Dreambeach Festival in Almería, Spain on Aug. 9. As of now, Smith has not publicly addressed the accusations.

The renowned actor and rapper is currently nearing the end of the UK stretch of his tour, with upcoming shows in Manchester (Aug. 27), London (Aug. 28), Wolverhampton (Aug. 30), and Paris (Sept. 2).

‘You are part of the largest pro wrestling crowd ever in The O2…’ AEW Forbidden Door breaks attendance record at iconic London venue

25 August 2025

AEW Forbidden Door set a new attendance record for a wrestling event at The O2 arena in London on Sunday night (24.08.25).

AEW President Tony Khan with Brodido at the Forbidden Door post-show press conference

The pay-per-view super show – which was co-produced by American promotion All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and Japan-based New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) – was watched by 18,992 fans inside the iconic venue beating the previous record of 17,617 fans set by WWE’s Money in the Bank event in 2023.

AEW commentator Tony Schiavone entered the ring to tell fans they had set the new record to huge cheers and screams of approval.

Schiavone, 67, said: “You are part of the largest pro wrestling crowd ever in The O2 – 18,992 fans! Thank you very much for tonight!”

Those fans saw a packed card of astonishing matches, including a Four-way match for the AEW TBS Championship in which Mercedes Moné successfully defended her championship against Alex Windsor, Bozilla and Persephone by pinfall and “Hangman” Adam Page defeating MJF by pinfall to remain AEW World Champion in a bloody encounter.

The main event saw the team of Darby Allin, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Will Ospreay and Golden Lovers (Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi) defeat the rival team of Gabe Kidd, Death Riders (Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli) and The Young Bucks (Nick Jackson and Matt Jackson) in a brutal Lights Out Steel Cage match.

AEW President Tony Khan was thrilled to have set a new wrestling attendance record at The O2, and insisted it was further proof of the incredible growth that the company has made in 2025.

Khan, 42, also thanked AEW’s partner promotions that helped make Forbidden Door an unforgettable event.

Speaking at post-show press conference attended by BANG Showbiz and other media, he said: “It means so much. First of all the only thing better than AEW breaking the attendance record in this building, the most pro wrestling fans to attend a show at London’s O2 Arena, 18,992 people here for this show, the only thing better than AEW breaking this record is AEW together with New Japan Pro Wrestling breaking this record as a partnership and in collaboration.

“This year it was even more special to be joined by partners from around the world, to have wrestlers from CMLL (Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre), Stardom (World Wonder Ring Stardom), even Rev Pro (Revolution Pro Wrestling) represented. It was really, really cool. It’s an historic night for us, it’s been an historic year for AEW. I think 2025 has been the best year of AEW and it’s amazing to think the last time we did AEW here in London how far we’ve come, how many things have changed.

“I really believe that 2025 has been our best year, I’m so proud to keep putting great nights and great moments and achievements together.”

Khan also announced that he will be bringing the AEW Continental Classic tournament to the UK for the first time when AEW returns to Britain for two nights in December 2025 before coming to Wembley Stadium in 2026.

He said: “We will be back here next year at Wembley Stadium. But I’m not going to wait until next year to bring AEW back to the UK, we’re coming back this year!

“For the first time ever we’re coming back in December to the UK, we will go back to Cardiff for Collision, December 13th, and we will debut AEW in Manchester on December 17th. I can’t wait to bring AEW here. And for the first time the Continental Classic is coming abroad.”

The AEW press conference was hosted by Renee Paquette and as well as Tony Khan it was attended by AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Moné, AEW TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher and Brodido – Brody King and Bandido, pictured – who were crowned new AEW World Tag Team Champions on the night after they defeated defending champions The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin) and FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) (with Stokely) by pinfall in a Three-way tag team match.
