‘Black Mirror’ Creator Charlie Brooker Sets Next Netflix Show

by jummy84 September 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker is making a four-part detective crime series for Netflix; it’s currently in production.

The untitled project is “a profoundly serious, stunningly original crime thriller in which a tormented detective from the Northern city of Bleakford ventures down to London on a mission to catch a ritualistic serial killer before they run out of people to kill,” the logline reads.

It then warns: “Contains blood and frowning.” Those two often go together.

The series stars Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon, MobLand), Georgina Campbell (Barbarian, Watchers) and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones, The Abandons). Probably no dragons in this one.

“I’m beyond thrilled to be saying these words for the press release,” Brooker said in a statement. “I’ve dreamt of providing a quote ever since I was a young foetus, and now here I am doing it. I’d pinch myself, but like all of us, I’m terrified that if I do that, I might wake up and discover 2025 has all been a magical dream. Please watch my show. I am begging you.”

Brooker wrote the series with Ben Caudell, Jason Hazeley, Emer Kenny, Daniel Maier and Joel Morris; additional material by Victoria Asare Archer. He executive produces it with Jessica Rhoades and Annabel Jones. Mark Kinsella is co-executive producer and Richard Webb is producer. Al Campbell directs the miniseries.

Brooker had recently teased the project in an interview, as he was working on the yet-unannounced series when he chatted with The Hollywood Reporter about the Emmy nominations for the latest season of Black Mirror, and also weighed in on his recent exit from his and Jones’ Netflix-owned banner Broke & Bones.

“I am doing something at the moment that we haven’t announced yet. It is not Black Mirror. It’s very different; it’s using my other skill set. My other hat I sometimes wear,” he said when discussing the challenge of pumping out more Black Mirror stories amid the fast-changing tech landscape. “The thing about Black Mirror now is there is definitely a shorter gap between conceptualizing a Black Mirror story and the real world, unfortunately, serving up something quite similar. I’m in a bit of an arms race with reality.”

As for season eight, he assured fans that Black Mirror’s future on the streamer still remains bright. “Well, it’s Black Mirror, so the future is looking bleak. But yes, bleakly bright.”

Labubu Is Turning 10! To Celebrate, Its Creator Kasing Lung Is Collaborating With Moynat

by jummy84 September 9, 2025
written by jummy84

They’re everywhere: You see them in the subway, on the streets, all over your social media feeds, and even in our street style galleries. They’re at the US Open with Naomi Osaka and on tour with pop superstar Lisa. From high-brow fashion folk to your colleagues’ toddlers and even your adult friends themselves—everyone’s succumbed to the beguiling, mischievous little creature known as Labubu, the monster toy popularized as a bag charm earlier this year. Now, you can find Labubu not just hanging from your accessories, but on the accessories themselves: Labubu creator Kasing Lung has partnered with French luxury trunkmaker Moynat to release a special capsule collection.

For those new to the Labubu craze—the creature has been something of a cult figure in Asia for a few years now—here’s one thing you should know: Labubu has siblings. Inspired by Nordic folklore, Lung created the character 10 years ago in 2015 with a trilogy of books under the franchise Monsters, which eventually gave way to an entire universe of products, from books and prints to toys and figurines, including the beloved Labubu figurines that have become so omnipresent these days.

“I will tell you, I never imagined that this would happen,” offered Lung, calling in from Hong Kong, about the ongoing Labubu craze. “The starting point of The Monsters was the story, I wanted to make a picture book about different kinds of monsters, my fans loved it, and then year after year it became more serious,” he said. “But what’s most important to me is that the project is about storytelling, that is what I’m working on with Moynat as well, about telling a story. I like to have my paintings on the bags because I want to tell stories with my painting.”

The capsule features Labubu and its siblings, Zimomo and King Mon, all on black monogram coated canvas tote bags and mini trunks. They also appear as all-over prints on leather handbags and two passport holders. Labubu specifically turns up exclusively on the small leather goods, primarily on colorful bag charms that see him rendered with the Moynat monogram all over its body.

The partnership with Moynat marks the first time Lung has opened up The Monsters to a Western luxury label. (Pronounce, the independent Shanghai-based label, has an ongoing collaboration with PopMart and Labubu—as I write this I can see a purple edition of the toy hanging from a colleague’s handbag at the Vogue offices.) “My fans, everyday they leave a message on Instagram or [via] email asking about The Monsters,” Lung said. “The question they ask the most is when we were working with a luxury brand.”

The capsule is being announced today, but will become available from October 11 in Shanghai. It will then embark on a world tour, landing in Paris during Art Basel from October 21st with further stops in Taipei in November and Hong Kong in December. It will then arrive in the US in early 2025. Did you think that the Moynat Labubu would be easier to get than the perennially sold-out figurine? Think again!

Could Task and Mare of Easttown Collide? Creator Says ‘Love the Idea’

by jummy84 September 8, 2025
written by jummy84

We’ve now entered crime-drama fall.

The new HBO series Task, starring Mark Ruffalo and Tom Pelphrey, is set to debut on Sunday night, and its creator, Brad Ingelsby, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter at the recent premiere in NYC about why he wanted to tell the story of Task after the success of Mare of Easttown, which both explore similar themes of grief, generational trauma and are based in the same setting: Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He also muses over the idea of both worlds colliding.

“I think there were still more stories to be told about people in Delaware County,” Ingelsby said. “They exist in the same world, so it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if Mare (played by Kate Winslet) walked into a Wawa that Tom (played by Ruffalo) was in. I don’t have a story in mind that’s a crossover, but I love the idea of their worlds intersecting.”

Pelphrey responds to the idea of a potential crossover of universes, “Welcome to the new MCU,” he laughed before adding, “That would be amazing. I was a huge fan of Mare of Easttown. And obviously, I’m a big fan of Task. So, if there’s a version where those things crossover, I think that would make a lot of people very happy.”

Mare of Easttown followed Winslet’s Mare Sheehan, a detective who investigates a murder while dealing with her own struggles. Task sees Tom Brandis (Ruffalo), a former priest-turned-FBI agent, assigned to a Task Force to stop a string of robberies run by family man Robbie Prendergrast (Pelphrey).

To play an FBI Agent, again, Ruffalo told THR about his preparation. “I had a lot of support,” he said. “So much of it was what [Tom’s] dealing with personally. But I also had just the most incredible technical advisor, Scott Duffy, who is an FBI agent, but also trains FBI agents, and he was with us every single day, and I would run over to him, and we were constantly like, ‘How do we get a deeper cut on us? How do we make it this character’s version of being an FBI agent? How do we make it interesting to people?’”

As Ruffalo and Pelphrey’s raw performances lead the show, Ingelsby explains why they were both the right people for their respective roles.

“I think Mark Ruffalo, as a person, has many of the admirable qualities of Tom as a character, and those are compassion, empathy, always looking to find the good in people and incredibly humble. When you start to list the qualities that Tom Brandis has, he’s in the seminary; he’s from the northeast; he’s a father; he’s a theologian — you have a list of perfect actors that is really small and Mark is at the top of that list,” Ingelsby said. “And Pelphrey, he auditioned for us, as soon as I heard him laugh, I thought, ‘What an infectious, incredible laugh. He has the physicality to play Robbie.’ He also has the humanity to be a father, to care for his kids and he’s really sensational.”

Since the show has already received rave reviews from critics, there’s buzz about a second season, but Ingelsby plays it coy, telling THR, “As long as audiences have an interest in this season, I’ll continue to write them.”

Task premieres on HBO Max at 9:00 p.m., with new episodes dropping weekly.

Amazon picks up rights to Life Is Strange with Kaos creator as writer and showrunner

by jummy84 September 8, 2025

The games centre around 18-year-old photography student Max Caulfield, who learns that she is capable of rewinding time.

Based on the premise of the butterfly effect, by which changing small things in the present can radically alter the future, the narrative unfolds in different ways depending on how players choose to use this power to interact with the world.

The show is set to be written by Charlie Covell, the writer behind hit shows such as Netflix’s Kaos and The End of the F***ing World, who will also serve as executive producer and showrunner.

KAOS creator Charlie Covell will act as writer and showrunner. Netflix

They will be joined by executive producers Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg and Timothy I. Stevenson under their Story Kitchen production company.

The series comes from the game’s original publisher Square Enix, as well as Story Kitchen, Lucky Chap and Amazon MGM Studios producing.

On the project, Story Kitchen’s Johnson and Goldberg said, “Story Kitchen has always believed that Life Is Strange deserved to be more than just a game – it’s a cultural touchstone.

“After a decade-long journey, we’re honoured to be bringing this beloved story to Amazon MGM alongside our incredible partners at Square Enix, our brilliant showrunner/writer Charlie Covell, and the amazing team at LuckyChap.

“Together, this thoughtfully assembled dream team is ready to share Life Is Strange with the world in an entirely new way!”

Covell was equally enthusiastic about the chance to work on the game, stating “It’s a huge honour to be adapting Life Is Strange of Amazon MGM Studios. I am a massive fan of the game, and I’m thrilled to be working with the incredible teams at Square Enix, Story Kitchen and Lucky Chap

“I can’t wait to share Max and Chloe’s story with fellow players and new audiences alike.”

The original Life Is Strange, first released in 2015, received widespread acclaim from both critics and players, largely for its characters and storytelling.

Since then, Life Is Strange 2, released in two chunks across 2018 and 2019, and 2024’s Life Is Strange: Double Exposure have proven rather more divisive, garnering mixed reviews, having been perceived to lack aspects of what made the original so special.

Hostage creator confirms season 2 hopes and shares how show could evolve

by jummy84 August 23, 2025
written by jummy84

Having ended with Sylvie’s (Isobel Akuwudike) surprise murder of Shagan (Martin McCann), the series then pans to a three-month flash-forward with Abigail (Suranne Jones) calling a surprise general election.

She does so in order to foster a more trusting relationship with the British public and it is clearly a decision her team and family are both behind. But ending Hostage in such a way surely opens up the potential for more.

We asked series creator Matt Charman about a possible Hostage season 2 and it’s something he would be keen to explore.

Chatting exclusively to RadioTimes.com, Charman revealed: “Look, I would love to tell more of this story, partly because I love writing for Suranne. But I also think there’s something really exciting about who she might go up against next. What her next opposite number might be, you know?

“Yeah, if we were lucky enough, I’d love to take this story on.”

When asked if season 2 would seek to replicate another hostage situation (as per the title of the show), Charman said: “Well, ‘hostage’ means different things. When I think about the show, I don’t really think about Alex, I think more about the two leaders, I think of Suranne and Julie’s characters.

“They’re the hostages, they’re the ones being held and they’re the ones that are being blackmailed. So, it’s really about riffing on that word ‘hostage’, what does it mean to be under someone else’s control? So I think that’s where I would kind of explore further.”

Would a future season of Hostage include Jones once again? “I love working with Suranne, I’d do anything with her,” Charman added. “So yeah, for me, that would be fun.”

Read more:

The series marks Jones’s first stint on Netflix, not only leading the cast of the new five-parter but also serving as an executive producer.

With a general election being called in the Hostage finale, we could find Abigail re-elected in a potential season 2 or she may have forged an entirely new political career path for herself.

Either way, it would be interesting to see how the word ‘hostage’ could factor into any future episodes.

Charman also teased to RadioTimes.com that it would be “fun to explore” the impact of Sylvie’s decision to shoot Shagan.

He said: “It was completely intentional around Sylvie because I think, truthfully, those ripples are… they never stop.

“If you do that, if you’re in a situation where you do something that completely crosses a line as a human being, there’s no end to that trauma or that sense of who am I now, who was I before? That would be fun to explore, what that does to a person as they enter adulthood.”

Tyler, the Creator announces 2025 Camp Flog Gnaw line-up with a word search

Tyler, The Creator has announced the line-up for Camp Flog Gnaw 2025. Find all the details below.

  • READ MORE: Tyler, The Creator – ‘Don’t Tap The Glass’ review: a fun disco-rap rewind rooted in hip-hop history

The 11th edition of the carnival will take place at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium on November 15 and 16. Tickets for the festival were initially put on sale in June, without any news as to who would be performing. Passes promptly sold out and fans have since been awaiting the reveal of the line-up.

Now, Tyler has unveiled the list of artists set to perform via a word search that was posted on Instagram yesterday (August 21).

The puzzle revealed that, alongside Tyler himself, playing the festival will be A$AP Rocky, Doechii, Childish Gambino, Clipse, Earl Sweatshirt, T-Pain, The Alchemist, 2 Chainz, Thundercat, Larry June, Clairo, Teezo Touchdown, Tems and more.

Last year, the rapper shared the festival’s line-up in a similar fashion, rolling out a crossword puzzle to reveal performances from Erykah Badu, Playboi Carti, André 3000, Kaytranada, Sexyy Red, Vince Staples, Omar Apollo, Faye Webster, RAYE, and more.

The 2024 edition was full of surprises, including R&B superstar SZA joining Doechii on stage during her set to perform their 2020 collaboration, ‘Persuasive (remix)’, and Playboi Carti brought out The Weeknd during his set to perform ‘Timeless’.

In other news, Tyler released his ninth studio album, ‘Don’t Tap The Glass’, in July, after announcing it only two days earlier during a concert in Brooklyn.

NME gave ‘Don’t Tap the Glass’ four stars, in a review that read: “Shedding the cinematic sprawl and narrative pathos of last year’s ‘Chromakopia’, Tyler steps away from the character-driven framing of Wolf Haley or Sir Baudelaire.

“The paranoia and parasocial tension explored on that record still linger – but beneath cartoonish ’80s rap armour. It’s part Kurtis Blow and part LL Cool J, encased in a clear Perspex chamber like a collector’s action figure. Instead of inviting connection, Tyler shields himself behind the glass: a museum piece for dance and display only.”

Shortly after the album came out, he also released a clean version at the request of a fan. The LP serves as a follow-up to ‘Chromakopia’, which landed at number 44 on NME‘s best albums of 2024 list.

In May, NME caught him live in London, giving his performance a glowing five-star review which read: “As Tyler wishes us a farewell, he remains humble, but tonight is no small feat. With outfit changes, multiple stages and live vocals front-and-centre, Tyler flips through his eras like a masterclass in fearless reinvention.

“From the raw menace of ‘Goblin’ to the kaleidoscopic chaos of ‘Chromakopia’, tonight is a vivid, wild ride through the mind of rap’s ultimate maverick – and London is lucky to be along for the journey.

In other news, the musician is set to make his film debut later this year in Marty Supreme, a new A24 film set to be released in December.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share our beloved Brother, Malik Taylor, has gone to ‘Audit Eternal,’” the post read. “To know him was to know he was a light to everyone—always bringing laughter, joy and a warm smile that brightened every room he entered.” The fraternity added, “Though your time with us was far too short, you were a good and faithful Brother, and the ‘Great Auditor’ will reward you for your everlasting work.”

Content Creator Arrested, Home Birth Death

by jummy84 August 20, 2025

A private midwife and content creator publicly identified as Oyebola “Bibi” Coxon has reportedly been arrested and charged. This, months after a baby passed away following her attempt at directing a home birth in Australia.

Here’s What Happened With The Private Midwife & Content Creator & The Passing Of The Baby Following Home Birth Attempt

On Thursday, August 14, the New South Wales police force released a press release. Furthermore, it asserted that on October 2, 2024, Coxon arrived at a residence “to assist a woman with a home birth.”

Per authorities, “over the following two days,” the midwife “did not act upon signs of complications and requests by the woman” to go to the hospital. Then, sometime on October 4, 2024, the woman arrived at John Hunter Hospital. Furthermore, she reportedly underwent an emergency C-section.

However, police were informed that the woman and her baby “suffered significant medical complications as a result of the incident.” Furthermore, by October 10, 2024, the newborn died in the hospital.

More Details On The Charges Against Oyebola “Bibi” Coxon

Per the press release, authorities arrested Oyebola “Bibi” Coxon on August 14. Additionally, she was reportedly charged with “manslaughter, and reckless grievous bodily harm.” To note, per the US Sun, Coxon had built a 40,000 social media following. This, while promoting herself as a “guru” who spoke against epidurals, ultrasounds, and hospital visits. Per the outlet, Coxon even encouraged women with twins or breech pregnancies to give birth at home.

Furthermore, the US Sun notes that Coxon was granted conditional bail after recently appearing in court. However, she is not allowed to practice midwife duties or educate anyone about giving birth or pregnancy. Lastly, the outlet notes that her trial will reportedly begin on October 15, 2025.

A Georgia Couple Was Left In Grief After The Birth Of Their Child In 2023

Oyebola “Bibi” Coxon is not the only trusted individual to have reportedly contributed to the death of a child during childbirth. As The Shade Room previously reported, in August 2023, Jessica Ross and Treveon Isaiah Taylor Sr. filed a lawsuit accusing a Georgia hospital of decapitating their baby during his delivery. Furthermore, the parents alleged that a doctor used excessive force on the baby’s neck and head during the vaginal delivery process.

Ultimately, the baby’s body was reportedly delivered via C-section while his head was delivered vaginally. However, the parents alleged the hospital did not inform them of their actions. Instead, they allegedly tried to conceal the deceased baby’s condition by wrapping him in a blanket while handing him to Ross. Then, to worsen matters, in September of that year, the parents filed a subsequent lawsuit, accusing a pathologist of posting their baby’s autopsy online.
