Grammy award-winning country songwriter Brett James died in a plane crash in North Carolina, authorities said Friday. He was 57.

The small plane with three people aboard crashed Thursday afternoon “under unknown circumstances” in the woods in Franklin, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a preliminary report.

There were no survivors, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said in a statement. The other two people on the plane were Melody Carole and Meryl Maxwell Wilson, the patrol confirmed.

The plane had taken off from John C. Tune airport in Nashville. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board said they will investigate the crash.

James was on a Cirrus SR22T, which was registered to him under his legal name of Brett James Cornelius, according to information provided by the FAA. It is not yet known if James was the pilot.

James, known for songs like Jesus, Take the Wheel by Carrie Underwood and When the Sun Goes Down by Kenny Chesney, was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2020.

The organization posted a statement online, mourning the songwriter after news of his death spread.

“We mourn the untimely loss of Hall of Fame member Brett James, a 2020 inductee who was killed in a small-engine airplane crash on Sept. 18. He was 57,” the organization wrote.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) also took to social media to remember James, writing, “We’re mourning the loss of Brett James, co-writer of Jesus, Take the Wheel & When the Sun Goes Down and a 2-time ASCAP Country Songwriter of the Year.”

“Brett was a trusted collaborator to country’s greatest names, and a true advocate for his fellow songwriters. Brett, your ASCAP family misses you dearly. Thank you for your unforgettable music,” the statement concluded.

Country singer Dierks Bentley called James “one of the best singer-songwriters in our town” and a “total legend.”

“I brought a couple of roughy [sic] sketched verse ideas of I Hold On to Brett after my dad died and he just did his thing. The chorus is all him,” Bentley wrote. “When I sing that song live, I’m always thinking of my dad, but I also think about that day we wrote it.”

“Our friendship and that song changed my life. Prayers for his family,” he added.

Underwood said that James was “the epitome of cool’” in a post dedicated to him on Instagram.

“I see him in my mind riding up to my cabins to write on his motorcycle…his hair somehow perfectly coiffed despite being under a helmet for however long,” she wrote. “I always loved hearing him sing Cowboy Casanova because a sassy girl anthem should’ve sounded ridiculous coming from a macho dude like him, but somehow, he even made that cool.”

It will forever be a reminder that this life is but a moment…we have to make the most of each day we’re given here on earth. Each day is a gift,” Underwood added. “I’m asking all of you to pray for his family, friends and all of us that were blessed enough to know Brett.”

“This is Alaska – there’s no perimeter. People up here are different.” This looks wild! Something big going on. Apple TV+ has debuted the full official trailer for a new thriller series titled The Last Frontier. Ready to watch streaming on Apple TV+ starting on October 10th this fall. Still reminds me of both Con-Air and The Grey (the 2011 Liam Neeson survival film). U.S. Marshal Frank Remnick’s jurisdiction is turned upside-down when a prison transport plane crashes somewhere out in the remote wilderness, setting free dozens of violent inmates. Tasked with protecting the town he’s vowed to keep safe, he suspects the crash wasn’t an accident, but the first step of a well-crafted plan with far-reaching and devastating implications. Uh that’s scary! Jason Clarke stars as Remnick, along with Dominic Cooper, Haley Bennett, Simone Kessell, Dallas Goldtooth, Tait Blum, & Alfre Woodard. Also can see Clifton Collins Jr. on the plane. With episodes directed by filmmakers John Curran (director of the movies The Painted Veil, Stone, Tracks, Chappaquiddick, Mercy Road) and Sam Hargrave (of Extraction 1 & 2). There is a LOT going on in this series! Much more than just a story about rounding up prisoners in the Alaskan wilderness. Worth a watch.

Here’s the main official trailer (+ poster) for Apple TV+’s new series The Last Frontier, from YouTube:

About the Late Songwriter Who Died in a Plane Crash – Hollywood Life

Brett James, best known as a songwriter on Carrie Underwood‘s Grammy-winning single “Jesus Take the Wheel,” died in a plane crash in North Carolina. He was 57. We’re remembering the late singer-songwriter’s life and career below.

Brett James Was a Songwriter & Musician

Known for his work in country music, James was an accomplished songwriter, singer and musician. Born in Columbia, Missouri, he later moved to Oklahoma and went to high school there. After attending Baylor University, James graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree, which led him to temporarily pursue medical school. However, he dropped out to chase his dreams for a music career.

Brett James Went to Medical School

James’ success didn’t happen overnight. Like most struggling artists, he waited tables and went to open mic nights, but it took years until he became an acclaimed songwriter. After going after his dreams in Nashville for seven years, James returned home and re-entered medical school, according to his bio on Baylor University’s website. Upon finishing his second year, James met with the dean — who allowed him to re-enroll in the first place — to tell her he was leaving again.

“I had a list of all the songs I’d had recorded on a sheet of paper and slid it to her,” James said about his last meeting with the dean. “She ended up being a big country music fan, and she knew some of the songs. She said, ‘This is awesome. You have to go do this, but you can never come back to medical school.’”

Brett James Composed Carrie Underwood’s ‘Jesus Take the Wheel’ Hit

One of James’ most famous composition credits was for Underwood’s famous song “Jesus Take the Wheel,” which won the Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song. He collaborated with Underwood again by co-writing “Cowboy Casanova.”

James also co-wrote Kenny Chesney‘s “Out Last Night.”

Brett James Also Worked as a Record Producer

James began working as a record producer in 2008. He is credited with contributing to the re-release of Taylor Swift‘s debut album in addition to Jessica Simpson‘s Do You Know album.

Brett James’ Plane Crash Death: What Happened to Him

On September 18, 2025, James and two other people died after his plane crashed near an elementary school in North Carolina, near the Macon County Airport’s runway, in the afternoon. The Cirrus SR22T, which was reportedly registered under James’ name, took off from Tennessee’s John C. Tune Airport and crashed in a field in North Carolina.

The National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the crash.

Brett James, ‘Jesus, Take the Wheel’ Writer, Dead at 57 in Plane Crash

by jummy84 September 19, 2025
written by jummy84

Brett James, the Grammy-winning country songwriter behind hits like Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and Kenny Chesney’s “Out Last Night,” died Thursday when the plane he was piloting crashed in North Carolina. The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, which inducted James in 2020, confirmed his death in a Facebook post. He was 57.

James was reportedly piloting a Cirrus SR22T plane, which took off from Nashville’s John C. Tune Airport Thursday afternoon before crashing in North Carolina.

While James’ biggest achievement was Underwood’s “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” which won him the Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 2006, the Nashville songwriter was responsible for some of the genre’s most recognizable and enduring radio hits. He co-wrote Kenny Chesney’s “When the Sun Goes Down,” Dierks Bentley’s “I Hold On,” Martina McBride’s “Blessed,” and Jason Aldean’s “The Truth,” among many others, and was regarded as one of Music City’s most sough-after collaborators.

“I always say there’s two ways to grow old as a songwriter,” James told PBS’s The Songwriters series earlier this year. “One way is to sit with a young 18-year-old or 19-year-old and think you know everything…. And the other is to listen, and the other is to learn. What I’m trying to do every day now, is to soak up the brilliance of the young kids that I am fortunate enough to work with and then sprinkle in whatever experience and knowledge that I have.”

Born Brett James Cornelius on June 5, 1968, in Columbia, Missouri, James was raised in Oklahoma and, after earning a degree at Baylor University in Texas, attended medical school at the University of Oklahoma before dropping out to move to Nashville in 1992 and pursue music. James released his debut album in 1995 and had modest success as a solo artist, but it was his songwriting for other Nashville artists that gave him his award-winning career.

Editor’s picks

He scored his first Number One song in 2001 with “Who I Am,” recorded by Jessica Andrews, and went on to land a total of 27 country chart-toppers, including McBride’s “Blessed,” Chesney’s “Out Last Night,” Underwood’s “Cowboy Casanova,” Bentley’s “I Hold On,” and Chris Young’s “The Man I Want to Be.” He also wrote songs for artists outside of Nashville, like Bon Jovi, Backstreet Boys, the Fray, and Daughtry.

Bentley, who is also a pilot, remembered his “I Hold On” collaborator in a social media post. “Fellow aviator. One of the best singer-songwriters in our town…total legend,” he wrote. “Our friendship and that song changed my life.”

But it’s “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” cowritten with Hillary Lindsey and Gordie Sampson, that stands as James’ signature. A song about a young mother who loses control of her car while driving on Christmas Eve and throws her fate into God’s hands, it became a song of faith and trust and resonated with fans across genres, crossing over to the Hot 100.

Along with winning the Grammy for Best Country Song, it was named 2005 Single of the Year by the Academy of Country Music, Country Song of the Year by the performing-rights organization ASCAP in 2006, and the 2006 Song of the Year by the National Songwriters Association International.

Trending Stories

“That was a great day, obviously,” James told The Tennessean in 2020 of writing the song. “We showed up like all songwriters do at the crack of 11:00. We just talked about life for about the first hour or so like all songwriters do. And then it was finally time to write a song today.

“I tell you what’s crazy is how many people have that story of driving in a car and almost crashing, or feeling like they were pulled out by an angel,” James continued. “It’s interesting that it really touched a nerve. So, it’s been a true blessing.”

Ellen DeGeneres sued for negligence for allegedly causing T-bone car crash – National

by jummy84 September 15, 2025
written by jummy84

Ellen DeGeneres is facing a new lawsuit after a woman claimed that the former talk show host ignored a stop sign while driving in Santa Barbara County, Calif., nearly two years ago and “t-boned” her car.

According to the lawsuit, viewed by People, the woman claims that DeGeneres, 67, “entered the intersection without stopping at the stop sign.”

The lawsuit says the intersection where the incident occurred on Oct. 16, 2023 “is controlled by stop signs in all directions.”

The plaintiff claims that she stopped for her stop sign and “made sure there were no other vehicles” present before continuing to drive forward. But she claimed that DeGeneres “suddenly and without any warning” collided with her car and “t-boned” her vehicle, which resulted in injuries to the plaintiff.

The lawsuit also accuses DeGeneres of exhibiting “negligent conduct (that) fell below the standard of care of a reasonable person,” and alleges that the comedian “negligently caused, or contributed to causing plaintiff’s vehicle to be collided with by the defendants’ vehicle.”

The woman claims she has suffered “multiple serious personal injuries and damages” as a result of the collision, along with wage loss, accrued hospital and medical expenses, “loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress and anxiety.”

She is suing DeGeneres for general negligence and an undisclosed amount of compensatory damages.

DeGeneres has not publicly addressed the allegations from the new lawsuit and was last seen on an Italian vacation with her wife, Portia de Rossi.

The lawsuit comes after DeGeneres confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump is the reason she left the United States and moved to the U.K.

In her first public appearance since leaving the U.S. last year, DeGeneres was asked at a conversation event in July if the reports that she moved to the U.K. because of Trump, 79, were correct, and she simply said, “Yes.”

“We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in,’” DeGeneres told broadcaster Richard Bacon in Cheltenham, England. “And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here.’”

DeGeneres had nothing but good things to say about her new home in the aristocratic Cotswolds region, telling Bacon that life “is just better” in the U.K.

“It’s absolutely beautiful,” she said. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture — everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.

“It’s clean. Everything here is just better. The way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here.”

DeGeneres and de Rossi moved to England last November after selling their home in Montecito, Calif., in August.

At the time, The Wrap spoke to sources close to the comedian and the Arrested Development star, who told the outlet the couple are likely to “never” return to the U.S. on a permanent basis.

Angie Stone Car Crash Details Emerge Amid Wrongful Death Lawsuit

by jummy84 September 5, 2025
written by jummy84

The family of late R&B legend Angie Stone is taking legal action following the tragic Alabama car crash that claimed her life in March.

Court documents obtained by WSB-TV 2 revealed that Stone’s two children, Diamond Stone and Michael D’Angelo Archer, filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Gwinnett County, Atlanta, against the drivers, a trucking company, and a truck manufacturer connected to the deadly collision.

According to court documents, Angie initially survived when the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van carrying her and her team overturned after the driver lost control. While Good Samaritans were able to rescue five of the nine passengers from the wreckage, Angie was still inside, struggling to free herself.

Reportedly, moments later, a tractor-trailer hauling a load of sugar reportedly slammed into the van, ejecting her from the vehicle and pinning her underneath. The lawsuit further claims the truck driver failed to pay proper attention to the road and that the tractor-trailer’s collision mitigation system did not function as it should have.

The lawsuit alleges she endured “conscious suffering” before ultimately passing away on the scene.

At the time of the crash, Angie was traveling home after a performance in Mobile, Alabama. Her daughter Diamond confirmed the heartbreaking loss shortly after the accident, writing on Facebook, “My mommy is gone,” alongside crying emojis.

The “Wish I Didn’t Miss You” singer was 63 years old.

Diamond Stone/Facebook

Stone first rose to prominence in 1979 as a member of The Sequence — one of the pioneering all-female rap groups — before stepping into her own as a solo artist with the release of her acclaimed debut album Black Diamond. She quickly became revered for her soulful vocals and the kind of R&B songs that could stir emotion with just a single line.

Over the years, the three-time Grammy nominee blessed fans with classics like “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” “Brotha,” and “No More Rain (In This Cloud).” She released her final studio album Love Language in May 2023.

Beyond music, Stone is the voice behind the beloved Girlfriends theme song and even made her presence felt on screen in Fighting Temptations, Scary Movie V, In The Cut, Saints & Sinners, One on One, School Gyrls, and Lincoln Heights.

Angie Stone is survived by her children and grandchildren. May she rest in peace.

Details On Lawsuit Filed By Angie Stone’s Children

Page Six reports that Angie Stone’s children, Diamond Stone and Michael D’Angelo Archer, filed a lawsuit on September 2 in Atlanta. The suit states that Angie originally survived the first crash when her Sprinter van was carrying her and her crew, but flipped over. While trying to escape, Angie was struck by an 18-wheeler, ejected, and trapped underneath, where she later died. The court docs also claim that the truck driver was distracted, the safety system failed, and he didn’t break before hitting the van at 70 mph.

Angie Family Speaks Out After The Fatal Crash

Days after Angie tragically passed away on March 1, her family issued a statement about her death.  Per 11Alive, her loved ones thanked everyone for their support.“It is with heavy hearts that the children of the R&B Singer Angie Stone along with her extended family want to thank you all for your love and well wishes at what is an extremely difficult time.” The statement also highlighted that Angie stood a strong example for Black women and girls and also championed Black men.

“Angie was an example for Black women and girls everywhere. Angie also loved and championed for Black Men with her number one hit entitled ‘Brotha.’ Angie Stone believed in giving back to her fans and the community with her Foundation, ‘Angel Stripes, the Angie Stone Foundation.’ She lived and died doing what she loved most, which was music,” the statement read.

Fans across the internet mourned Angie Stone’s death after a car crash claimed her life on March 1. The incident occurred hours after she wrapped up a performance in Montgomery Alabama. According to AP News, the Alabama Highway Patrol said the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van carrying Angie and her team overturned on Interstate 65 and then collided with a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia truck. Emergency responders pronounced Stone dead at the scene and later rushed the Sprinter’s driver and seven other passengers to a hospital.

Sir Richard Branson has been left ‘deeply saddened’ after executive sous chef Sihle Somdaka died in a buggy crash on his Caribbean retreat Necker Island

The 75-year-old entrepreneur was not on the island at the time of the incident but has been in close contact with staff and the chef’s family, according to reports.

Sihle, aged 37 and originally from Cape Town, South Africa, was found fatally injured late on Friday (29.08.25) after apparently losing control of an electric buggy shortly after leaving a farewell party at the island’s Great House.

A source told The Sun: “Sir Richard wasn’t on the island when the incident occurred but has been in close contact with the family and the Necker Island team.”

They added the billionaire was “deeply saddened” by the tragedy.

The crash took place just before midnight, as Sihle drove down a steep hillside in one of the resort’s buggies.

Island medics attempted CPR before a doctor was flown in from neighbouring Moskito Island.

He was then transported by boat to Peebles Hospital on Tortola, where he was pronounced dead from a head injury.

Police in the British Virgin Islands have launched a full investigation into the circumstances of the crash. A source told The Sun staff on Necker Island are working closely with local authorities to establish what happened.

Another insider alleged there had been “a culture of excess” at the luxury resort.

They said: “They’ve had very many close shaves and near misses over the years… it was only a matter of time, but it should never have happened.”

Sihle was described as a rising star in the culinary world.

The father-of-two had worked in high-end restaurants across the Middle East, including in Doha and Kuwait, before securing a position on Branson’s £95,000-a-night private island.

Days before his death, Sihle shared images on social media of himself enjoying the beaches and jet skis at Necker Island, captioning one photograph: “Caribbean life.”

Former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani Hospitalized & Recovering After Crash

by jummy84 August 31, 2025
written by jummy84

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani was hospitalized after sustaining serious injuries in a New Hampshire car crash, but is “in good spirits and recovering tremendously,” according to spokesperson Michael Ragusa.

Per the official statement, Giuliani was involved in a motor vehicle accident yesterday evening, prior to which he was “flagged down” by a woman who was a victim of domestic violence. The former U.S. Associate Attorney General then “immediately rendered assistance” by calling 911 and remaining on the scene until authorities arrived to help.

“Following this, while traveling on the highway, Mayor Giuliani’s vehicle was struck from behind at high speed,” the statement read. “He was transported to a nearby trauma center, where he was diagnosed with a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations and contusions, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg.”

Ragusa indicated Giuliani’s business partner and medical provider arrived shortly to oversee his care, and no further updates are available at this time.

In a separate comment, Ragusa — who noted he was Giuliani’s head of security — added: “This was not a targeted attack. We ask everyone to respect Mayor Giuliani’s privacy and recovery, and refrain from spreading unfounded conspiracy theories.”

Speaking to the New York Post, Ragusa said the GOP official is expected to stay in the Manchester, N.H. hospital for two to three days and will be required to wear a brace for the broken spine.

The former advisor and personal lawyer to president Donald Trump has kept a relatively low profile over the years. Last year, he was disbarred in New York following a state appeals court ruling that he repeatedly made false statements about Trump’s 2020 election loss.
