5 Albums I Can’t Live Without: Shaun Cooper of Taking Back Sunday

by jummy84 November 15, 2025
written by jummy84

Name  Shaun Cooper

Best known for  Bassist of Taking Back Sunday.

Current city: Long Beach, NY.

Really want to be in  Like Dorothy said, there’s no place like home! I’m currently at an orthodontist appointment with my son. No place I’d rather be.

My current music collection has a lot of  Billy Joel.

And a little bit of  Yacht rock.

Preferred format  I love streaming music on Tidal for the convenience and sound quality.

5 Albums I Can’t Live Without:

1

Rocket to Russia, Ramones

It introduced me to punk rock at a young age. Timeless melodies, clever and humorous lyrics and simple chord progressions.

2

Appetite for Destruction, Guns N’ Roses

These guys seemed like rock and roll aliens to my 7-year-old self. I found them endlessly fascinating and the music connected deeply. It still does.

3

Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles

I didn’t get deep into this album until I was 12-13 years old. Paul’s bass playing blew me away. His sense of melody was so inspiring to my bass playing. I remember sitting for hours with the Complete Transcriptions book trying to learn every song.

4

…And Out Come the Wolves, Rancid

I loved their album Let’s Go but the songwriting and depth of …And Out Come the Wolves makes it a very special record. From the jump, Matt Freeman takes a bass solo on “Maxwell Murder” that is just mind melting! The record takes you on a great ride and lyrically Lars and Tim paint a very vivid picture of their lives that really moved me.

5

Nevermind, Nirvana

This album really changed my world. It made so much of the hair metal I grew up on instantly irrelevant. I had just started playing bass when this came out and you could hear every note Krist Novoselic was playing. It wasn’t too complicated and with some help I could learn every song and play them with my friends in the basement. This made the dream of playing in a band seem possible. The rock gods I loved as a kid were beyond my reach and ability. This! This was something I could do!!!

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper

The unexpected pairing’s chemistry in 2019’s A Star Is Born and its ensuing press tour made fans blind to the fact that the actor and director was dating Irina Shayk and the pop star was engaged to Christian Carano at the time.

Still, it was clear that the costars had a close bond, with Gaga revealing that she had an “instant connection” with Bradley that came “the second that I saw him.”

Of course, that closeness was on full display when the pair took to the Oscars stage in 2019, hand-in-hand, to perform their Best Song-winning number, “Shallow,” just days after Gaga ended her engagement.

But the House of Gucci star quickly shut down romance rumors following the performance, telling Jimmy Kimmel, “Yes, people saw love and—guess what—that’s what we wanted you to see.”

Bradley, whose romance with Irina ended later that year, never addressed the speculation until November 2021, telling The Hollywood Reporter they were acting during the Oscar performance.

“They kind of fall in love in that scene in the film,” he explained. “It’s that explosive moment that happens to them on a stage in front of thousands of people…It would have been so weird if we were both on stools facing the audience.”

PREVIOUSLY (June 30): Alice Cooper, host of Nights With Alice Cooper and Alice’s Attic, and Martha Quinn, host of The Martha Quinn Show, are among the 2025 inductees into the Radio Hall of Fame.

Cooper, who topped the Billboard 200 in 1973 with his album Billion Dollar Babies, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. He is just the second person who was inducted as a performer in the Rock Hall to also be admitted to the Radio Hall of Fame, following R&B legend James Brown. (Four other Radio Hall inductees were honored by the Rock Hall in the non-performer category:  Alan Freed, Sam Phillips, Dick Clark and Don Cornelius.)

Quinn gained pop-culture immortality as one of MTV’s five original VJs when that culture-shaking channel launched in 1981, along with Mark Goodman, Alan Hunter, J.J. Jackson and Nina Blackwood. Quinn is the first of these five VJs to join the Radio Hall of Fame.

On Monday (June 30), the Museum of Broadcast Communications announced the selection of 10 new inductees – nine individuals and one team (Bob Lacey and Sheri Lynch of The Bob & Sheri Show) – into the Radio Hall of Fame for 2025. They will be honored at the in-person 2025 Radio Hall of Fame Induction ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 30 at the Swissotel Hotel in Chicago.

Six of the 10 inductees were determined by a voting participant panel comprised of more than 900 industry professionals. The other four inductees were voted on by the Radio Hall of Fame 2025 nominating committee.

“Our 2025 Induction Ceremony and Celebration will be a special, standing-room-only, event honoring the talents, history and contributions of 11 incredible people,” Kraig Kitchin, co-chair of the Radio Hall of Fame, said in a statement. “I cannot wait to celebrate the careers and impact of these men and women who’ve made a forever positive impact on the radio industry!”

The Wait Is Over! Bradley Cooper Joins Margot Robbie In ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Prequel | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 October 11, 2025
written by jummy84

Hollywood heavyweight Bradley Cooper is reportedly in negotiations to star opposite Margot Robbie in the upcoming Ocean’s Eleven prequel, a fresh chapter in the beloved heist franchise that began with Steven Soderbergh’s 2001 blockbuster.

The new film will serve as a prelude to the events of the original Ocean’s Eleven, which featured an all-star ensemble cast including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Julia Roberts. Known for its slick style, sharp wit, and high-stakes plotting, the 2001 film followed a crew of skilled con artists as they attempted to rob three Las Vegas casinos in one night.

The prequel is expected to shift the timeline and setting, taking viewers back in time — possibly to 1960s Europe — and exploring the origins of the Ocean family’s criminal legacy. Margot Robbie, who is also producing the project through her LuckyChap banner, has been attached to the film since early development. Bradley Cooper, if confirmed, would likely take on a co-lead role, possibly tied to the family of Danny or Debbie Ocean.

Directed by Lee Isaac Chung (Minari, Twisters), with a script by Carrie Solomon, the film aims to reimagine the charm and cleverness of the franchise with a vintage twist. While plot details remain under wraps, the project is said to blend the glamour of the era with the tension of a classic heist.

The Ocean’s franchise has long been a staple of stylish crime cinema, and the addition of two of today’s biggest stars — Robbie and Cooper — suggests the prequel is being positioned as both a nostalgic nod and a reinvention for a new generation of fans.

Production timelines and release dates are yet to be announced.

Bradley Cooper Directs a Midlife Crisis

by jummy84 October 11, 2025
written by jummy84

“I think we need to call it,” Tess (Laura Dern) tells Alex (Will Arnett), standing over the bathroom sink while brushing her teeth, a serious ask embedded in a moment of profound mundanity. She’s referring to their marriage, which, more than 20 years in and with two small children between them, has run its course. Tess, a former Olympic volleyball player, and Alex might not be unhappy with their marriage, but they’re certainly not happy in their marriage, or in their own lives creatively or professionally. Their split spurs Alex’s unconventional midlife crisis, one without fancy muscle cars or a hot young babe on the arm.

That crisis is the foundation of Bradley Cooper’s blandly reassuring, at times tedious and tunnel-visioned new directorial effort “Is This Thing On?” That midlife crisis also involves a hairpin career pivot, and no, I’m not talking about Cooper’s move into directing, starting with 2018’s Oscar-winning “A Star Is Born,” then the handsomely staged, Oscar-bait Leonard Bernstein biopic “Maestro” two years ago.

That pivot is in Alex’s sudden move toward becoming an amateur stand-up comic, using the stage and the microphone as therapy platforms for his anguish. (But is it anguish he’s feeling pre-divorce? He doesn’t register much on the emotional Richter scale.) He stumbles into the Olive Tree Cafe in the West Village and, sure, why the hell not, what do I have to lose, signs up to perform almost as a lark, but his comedy becomes something the movie intends to endorse as being successful or funny, even when that’s not always the case for those in the audience for this film. For a film about comedy as part of its elevator pitch, “Is This Thing On?” is curiously unfunny, with Cooper preferring to linger on the film’s melancholy, “Marriage Story”-lite core as Alex and Tess eventually, through a bit of movie magic in the shape of a screenplay, find their way back to each other.

But the general shape of “Is This Thing On?” is based on a true story that would seem contrived were it not real. A couple of decades ago, the English comedian John Bishop (who gets a “story by” credit here, along with Cooper’s co-writers Will Arnett and Mark Chappell) was working as a pharmaceutical rep, his marriage imploding, when he tried open-mic standup to avoid paying the establishment’s entry fee. And now look at him: Since then, he’s created multiple BBC One series. Perhaps also like this film’s director, both John and the fictional character of Alex found what they discovered to be their truer calling later in life.

Alex and Tessa’s friend group, meanwhile, is one of mixed ambitions. There’s Christine (Andra Day) and her seemingly permanently stoned-to-the-gills actor husband Balls (Cooper himself, and, yes, this is unfortunately the character’s name), who are staring down the barrel of their own empty nest and a marriage that’s pushing up against its expiration date. Cooper winds up giving himself the majority of the laughs, like when he suspects Alex might be seeing someone new. Alex says, “I’ve been doing standup.” Balls goes, “Is that her handle?”

Cooper, again working with cinematographer Matthew Libatique (who cameos as a comic in the Olive Tree Café), operates the camera himself, which appears to create a less visible illusion of immediacy or intimacy, with the 1.66:1 aspect ratio giving the film the physical dimensions of a European character study. The price of Cooper taking the camera into his own hands, no matter how closely he smooshes it onto his actors’ faces, is self-indulgence. There are takes that drag on and on, such as one of Dern biting into a weed cookie, that could have used more editorial discipline. “Is This Thing On?” very much has a “let’s let the cameras roll and catch lightning in a bottle!” feel, with Cooper falling perhaps a little bit too in love with the performances to rein in his naturalistic impulses. The actors here are predictably strong, with a swept-back, Cooper-coded Arnett digging into what is likely the most dramatic material of his career.

But “Is This Thing On?” feels like it doesn’t really get going until hour two — and those long takes can feel like gaping maws of silence that leave you begging for music or a score to be inserted so as to at least point you in the direction of feeling something. The first scene in which you start to feel like, ah, yes, there is some spark underneath the hood here involves Alex scrambling to get his kids a sitter— he ultimately leans on his parents, played by Christine Ebersole and Ciarán Hinds, and their seemingly dysfunction-free marriage a little too much amid the separation — so that he can take another standup gig. That very same night, Tess is on what turns out to be a date with a friend who is recently single, and they happen to go to that very comedy club Alex is performing in. During his set, he goes into exquisite, vivisecting detail about the intricacies of his marriage breakup. You see the frisson, the lust even, flash across Tess’ face, electrified by his candor, perhaps giving her a glimpse of the Alex she once knew, the Tess she once was.

All of this really happened to John Bishop, who ended up on reconciliation’s way with his wife after she saw his own soul-bared open-mic performance. So, too, do Alex and Tess start to find their way back to teach other, starting up what I suppose you’d call an affair, as they’re keeping the relationship a secret from their kids and their friends while Alex continues to live in a bachelor pad, with Tess in their upstate home while dreaming of becoming a volleyball coach as a way back into her old sport. What makes “Is This Thing On?” work when it does is the chemistry exchange happening between Arnett and Dern, who are adept at going at it one minute and then making out the next. Not that Cooper’s film is by any means some kind of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?,” nor does it have the requisite throwdown temper tantrum on the level of “Marriage Story.”

Frankly, this film could have used one. It never feels like there’s any kind of catharsis, any release at the end of the crescendo, other than one taped on with a children’s chorus-led cover of Queen and David Bowie’s “Under Pressure,” a song that always gives you that feeling of “I want to run toward my future.”

Though often lethargic and listless, “Is This Thing On?” does stir up a vivid portrait of the New York City underground comedy milieu, even when New York City as a character feels more like the afterthought it isn’t supposed to be. Cooper casts actual comedians in roles, from Amy Sedaris as the club’s peppy emcee to a dry-as-a-bone Jordan Jensen as Alex’s first sexual partner post-divorce. But his commitment to naturalism and immersion takes a chunk out of your soul after what feels like a very long 124 minutes; it could’ve used more spring in its step. Isn’t joie de vivre what a midlife crisis is all about?

Grade: C+

“Is This Thing On?” premiered at the New York Film Festival. Searchlight Pictures will release the film on Friday, December 19.

“You are safe. All of the feelings are safe…” Mubi has revealed their official trailer for a family drama series called Hal & Harper, the latest from indie filmmaker Cooper Raiff, following his two films Shithouse and Cha Cha Real Smooth. Hal & Harper premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival in their new Series section, and also played at the Tribeca Film Festival, despite not being a film (I know, I know, everyone is premiering series nowadays). Hal & Harper & Dad chart the evolution of their family… From Cooper Raiff comes Hal & Harper, an 8-episode series about siblings Hal and Harper, whose lifelong closeness is both their comfort and their curse. When their father announces he’s having a baby with his girlfriend, the two must confront their past & the codependent bond shaping their adult lives. With Lili Reinhart, Cooper Raiff, Mark Ruffalo as their Dad, Betty Gilpin as his new girlfriend, Alyah Chanelle Scott, Asher Alexander, Addison Timlin, and Havana Rose Liu. This looks sweet and charming, more emotional than comedic with heartfelt performances. This has great reviews from the fests – tune in later this month.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Cooper Raiff’s series Hal & Harper, direct from Mubi’s YouTube:

While exploring the trauma of their past and now the dramatic changes of their present, Hal & Harper & Dad chart the evolution of their family while discovering the ways their intense bond has shaped the ways they interact with those they love, for better or worse. Hal & Harper is mini-series created and directed by filmmaker Cooper Raiff, director of the films Shithouse and Cha Cha Real Smooth previously. All of the episodes are written & directed by Cooper Raiff. Produced by Thomas Hartmann. Made by Small Ideas. It’s executive produced by Daniel Lewis, Clementine Quittner, Cooper Raiff, Lili Reinhart, Addison Timlin. This first premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Dominic Cooper joined by Vigil and Heartstopper stars in ITV romantic drama

The strength of their children’s feelings is very much echoed in the dynamic between Tom and Beth, who feel an “immediate” connection that spirals into an adulterous relationship, which they attempt to hide from their respective partners.

Shelley Conn (Bridgerton) and Matthew McNulty (The Jetty) co-star as Tom’s wife, Hannah, and Beth’s husband, Neil, respectively, who become the victims of their affair.

The synopsis for ITV’s Adultery teases a “scandalous” and “provocative love story” that “raises questions about class, grief and the effects of social media, as it takes the viewer on a rollercoaster story of passion, parenthood and peril”.

“Tom and Beth embark upon a passionate and intense love affair that threatens to uproot their whole lives,” it continues. “Adultery is naturally authentic and bristling with passion as it focuses upon two ordinary families and messy complications.”

Screenwriter Danny Brocklehurst commented: “It’s a wonderful privilege to assemble such an amazing cast for Adultery.

“The characters in our show have complex emotional lives and we needed the very best acting talent to bring them to the screen. I couldn’t be more thrilled.”

The supporting cast is completed by Andrew Knott (Gavin & Stacey) as Dave, the ex-husband of Beth’s recently deceased best friend, plus James Murray (The Crown) and Charley Webb (The Long Shadow) as Tom’s brother and sister-in-law.

Romola Garai photographed at a screening event (Photo by Lia Toby/Getty Images) Lia Toby/Getty Images

Producer Ben Stephenson added: “I am thrilled that we have assembled such a high calibre cast for Danny’s wonderful scripts.

“Dominic and Romola are two remarkable actors at the peak of their careers and it’s hugely exciting to see what they bring to this juicy gripping and complex show alongside their amazing co-leads Matthew and Shelley.”

Adultery will consist of six hour-long episodes, directed in two blocks by Vera’s Will Sinclair (episodes 1-3) and Stay Close’s Daniel O’Hara (episodes 4-6), with a premiere date to be announced in due course on ITV1 and ITVX.

Adultery is coming soon to ITV and STV.

The 2025 Emmy Awards was about more than a trophy.

As Hollywood celebrated the biggest night in television on Sept. 14, some celebrities proved their weight in gold as they were honored for their historic wins and nominations.

Take, for instance, Adolescence‘s Owen Cooper, who became the youngest performer to earn the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie and the youngest-ever male Emmy winner.

The 15-year-old reflected on his journey, sharing a powerful message about authenticity and self-assurance. As he explained on stage during his acceptance speech, “Tonight proves that if you listen and you focus and you step out your comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life… Who cares if you get embarrassed? Anything can be possible.” (See all the winners here.)

Meanwhile, Severance‘s Tramell Tillman made history as the first Black man to win in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category. As the 40-year-old accepted his trophy, he expressed gratitude to his mom in the audience.

Geoff Cooper Named New Channel 4 Chair

by jummy84 September 10, 2025
written by jummy84

Geoff Cooper is the new chair of Channel 4, the U.K. network said on Wednesday.

After months of speculation, Channel 4’s interim CEO Jonathan Allan released a statement lauding Cooper’s “extensive board-level experience” and “fresh insights.” Reports emerged last month that Cooper, chairman of the online electrical goods retailer AO, had interviewed for the British state-run broadacaster.

“I would like to congratulate Geoff Cooper on his appointment and, on behalf of everyone at Channel 4, extend a warm welcome to this uniquely special broadcaster at a critical time for public service media in the U.K.,” Allan said.

“Geoff brings extensive board-level experience from a wide range of businesses, as well as proven commercial acumen. As a publicly owned but commercially funded company, his fresh insights and new perspectives will be invaluable as we look to the next phase in Channel 4’s evolution.”

“I also want to thank Dawn Airey for her outstanding leadership and huge support as interim chair since April,” he continued, “This has been Dawn’s second spell as interim chair and we owe her a huge debt of gratitude as she returns to her important role as a brilliant non-executive director.”

Cooper’s experience so far includes board roles at companies including the Dunelm Group and builders’ merchant Travis Perkins. His appointment was reportedly signed off by U.K. culture secretary Lisa Nandy.
