Pregnant South Florida Inmate Convicted Of Murder

What started as a tragedy behind closed doors has now turned into a national headline — and it’s got the internet watching very closely. Daisy Link, a South Florida mother of three, was just convicted of second-degree murder in the death of her longtime partner and father of her children. But this case? It’s deeper than just the verdict. And, the story that’s been unraveling since 2022 is filled with twists, trauma, and a so-called “miracle” baby that caught everyone off guard.

Link Says She Fired To Scare, Not Kill

The fatal shooting committed by Daisy Link happened after years of what her defense described as an abusive and volatile relationship. However, jurors took less than two hours to find Link guilty in the 2022 shooting of her partner Pedro Jimenez. The trial also featured an emotional testimony — even from the couple’s 11-year-old son. He reportedly told the court that he saw his father aim a gun at his mother and pistol-whip her. Additionally, Link testified that Jimenez was under the influence and became violent after accusing her of cheating. Link claimed that she fired the gun at Jimenez to scare him off, not to kill. “It’s not like I didn’t love him,” she said on the stand. “That’s the father of my kids.”

Link’s Pregnancy Stuns The Net, Family Speaks Out

But, what really grabbed national attention was what happened after Link’s arrest. As previously reported, in 2023, she became pregnant while behind bars — and later gave birth in June 2024. The father? Another inmate, Joan DePaz. According to both, the baby was conceived through self-insemination and they’ve called it a “miracle.” Her sister, Crystal Barretto, says Link is a victim of domestic violence and is heartbroken over the verdict, urging the judge to consider her past and her children during sentencing. “The fight is not over,” she said, as Link’s legal team prepares to appeal.

Guilty Verdict In—But This Case Isn’t Over

Furthermore, one juror said the decision was based purely on the facts, and prosecutors painted the shooting as a fit of rage. With sentencing set for November 21 and an appeal already in motion, this case is far from over — and social media is definitely watching how it all plays out.

“I hope the judge takes into consideration all the evidence that was presented, the past domestic violence, history against Pedro and Daisy and the time she’s already served,” Crystal Barretto shared. “And also taken into consideration, her children and the new baby that was just born.”

Where Is Alex Murdaugh Now? Inside the Convicted Murderer’s Life Today – Hollywood Life

Behind scandal, courtroom drama, and a high-stakes fall from grace, Alex Murdaugh now lives a life few ever imagined. Sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of murdering his wife and son in 2023, he also faces federal counts tied to financial crimes. With the Hulu series Murdaugh: Death in the Family bringing renewed attention to his story, many are asking: where is he now—and what does his life look like behind bars?

Learn more about him, where he is today, and additional details below.

Who Is Alex Murdaugh?

Murdaugh was once a central figure in South Carolina’s legal elite. Born into a powerful dynasty that held sway over the 14th Circuit for generations, he later ran his own law firm and was deeply intertwined with local politics and influence.

But Alex’s life took a darker turn after June 7, 2021, when his wife Maggie and son Paul were found shot to death at their family’s property. Prosecutors accused him of committing the murders to divert attention from his financial misdeeds, alleging he had embezzled millions from clients and misused firm funds.

In March 2023, a jury convicted him of the double homicide, handing down two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole. He also admitted to 22 federal financial crimes and received an additional 40 years in federal prison.

Where Is Alex Murdaugh Now?

Following his convictions, Murdaugh is incarcerated in South Carolina, serving his life sentences while also carrying the 40-year federal term, which runs concurrently. (Even if the state murder convictions are overturned on appeal, the federal sentence would likely keep him behind bars.)

Initially placed in a maximum security facility, he was later moved to a protective custody unit for his own safety.

Where Are the Rest of the Murdaughs?

While Alex is imprisoned, his surviving family is spread across different roles and reactions. His son Buster Murdaugh has become one of the more visible figures, publicly expressing support for his father amidst the fallout and legal turmoil. Other family members—such as Alex’s brother Randy and extended cousins—have largely receded from the spotlight.

TV & Docuseries on the Murdaugh Case

The Murdaugh saga has inspired an expanding slate of media portrayals. The most prominent is Hulu’s Murdaugh: Death in the Family, a dramatized limited series that premiered October 15, 2025, reimagining the events through a dramatic lens. Jason Clarke plays Alex, Patricia Arquette plays Maggie, and Brittany Snow portrays journalist Mandy Matney, whose podcast inspired the show.

Before the Hulu series, several documentaries and mini-series explored the case, including Low Country: The Murdaugh Dynasty on Hulu, Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal on Netflix, Murdaugh Murders: Deadly Dynasty and Murdaugh Murders: The Movie.

Teenager Convicted in Terror Plot Against Taylor Swift Concert in Vienna

The 16-year-old who helped prepare a failed terrorist attack at a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna, Austria, last year has been convicted in Germany, reports the BBC. Mohamed A, a Syrian national living in Germany who was 14 at the time of the planned attack, made a full confession to the charges. He was given an 18-month suspended sentence under juvenile criminal law in Berlin court yesterday (August 26). Prosecutors claimed Mohamed A was radicalized by Islamic State terrorist group propaganda online when he helped the other two would-be attackers by translating bomb-building instructions from Arabic.

Concert organizers called off all three of Swift’s shows at Vienna’s Ernst-Happel-Stadion last August after police were informed of a credible threat. Nearly 200,000 people had been expected to attend the concerts. Ultimately, the plan was thwarted and nobody was harmed.

Police arrested three people in connection with the alleged terror plot. Main suspect Beran A, an Austrian man who was 19 at the time of his arrest, remains in custody and an investigation into his role is ongoing. (Investigators allege Beran A also planned to carry out an attack in Dubai in March 2024, notes the BBC.) The second suspect, who was 17 at the time of his arrest, has since been released without charge. Mohamed A was the third suspect, and while he could not be held in custody because of his status as a minor, he was charged by German prosecutors back in June.

“Having our Vienna shows cancelled was devastating. But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives,” Swift said in an Instagram post after the reason for the Vienna tour dates’ cancellation became public knowledge. “Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows. In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint, and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to. My priority was finishing our European tour safely, and it is with great relief that I can say we did that.”
