Bugonia Movie Review: A Paranoid Fable for The Conspiracy Age

by jummy84 October 31, 2025
written by jummy84

Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia is a film that exists somewhere between satire, science fiction, and psychological thriller and true to the Greek auteur’s temperament, it refuses to pick a lane. The director, known for his surreal dissections of human behaviour in The Favourite and Poor Things, reimagines the 2003 South Korean cult classic Save the Green Planet! for a modern audience. The result is a film that is both audacious and uneven, equal parts allegory and absurdity.

The story follows two disillusioned men, Teddy Gatz (Jesse Plemons) and Don (Aidan Delbis), his neurodivergent cousin, convinced that a powerful pharmaceutical CEO, Michelle Fuller, played by Emma Stone, is, in fact, an alien orchestrating humanity’s demise. Acting on their paranoid conviction, they abduct her and hold her captive in a basement, hoping to extract a confession that could “save the planet.” What follows is a strange, often disturbing tug of war between delusion and truth, power and helplessness, rendered with Lanthimos’ signature blend of deadpan humour and unnerving precision.

The director has worked once again with long-time collaborator, cinematographer Robbie Ryan, who has used wide-angle lenses, one-point perspectives and exaggerated depth of field to create a world that feels both clinical and grotesque. The film is shot in VistaVision, giving its carefully composed frames a heightened sense of visual distortion. Every space seems too bright, every face too close, every pause too long. It’s a movie built on discomfort, using form as a mirror to its fractured themes.

At the heart of this disorienting narrative are two magnetic performances. Emma Stone, continuing her fruitful collaboration with Lanthimos, turns the cool composure of a corporate titan into something eerie and unreadable. Her role demands restraint and ambiguity and she excels on all fronts. Another Oscar nomination seems to be on her way. Whether she’s a manipulative CEO or an extraterrestrial predator is never entirely clear and that’s exactly the point.

Opposite her, Jesse Plemons delivers a career-best performance as the unhinged beekeeper-turned-conspiracy theorist. He embodies his character’s paranoia with terrifying sincerity, balancing absurd humour with deep tragedy. Plemons steals the show, grounding the film’s surreal energy in something painfully recognisable, the modern paranoia that fuels online misinformation and distrust. Aidan Delbis is himself autistic and hence his act rings with lived-in truth.

Thematically, Bugonia dives into various terrains: environmental collapse, corporate greed, and the seductive logic of conspiracy theories. It’s a film about power structures and the fragile human need to find meaning in chaos. In that sense, it feels eerily reflective of our own moment, where truth has become a matter of belief and belief a weapon of survival. Lanthimos doesn’t spoon-feed his audience answers but crafts a cinematic space where absurdity feels like the only rational response to the world.

Yet for all its ambition, Bugonia is not without flaws. The middle act, dominated by the hostage scenario, begins to drag under the weight of its own repetition. The tonal shifts from farce to horror to philosophical reflection can feel jarring, even indulgent. The film raises questions about faith, power and truth, but leaves them suspended, unresolved, perhaps intentionally so.

Ultimately, Bugonia is a film that dares you to either engage or walk away. It’s not meant for those seeking tidy endings, straight narratives or moral clarity. But for viewers willing to surrender to Lanthimos’ warped worldview, it offers a biting, funny, and often haunting reflection of contemporary anxieties. Like the best of his work, it finds beauty in the bizarre and discomfort in the familiar.

In the end, Bugonia may not convert anyone who isn’t already in Lanthimos’ corner. But for those attuned to his peculiar rhythm, it stands as another fascinating, if imperfect, entry in a filmography obsessed with human delusion and the strange, buzzing noise it makes when confronted with the truth. Just like the much-loved bees, so central to the film. The end will shock you for sure. But the absurdity of the human condition, even in its collapse, will bring a smile as well. Are we really needed in this world to keep? Wouldn’t it fare better without us? Such questions will haunt you for sure, much after the end credits roll away.

Kim Kardashian invited to NASA launch after moon landing conspiracy claims – National

by jummy84 October 31, 2025
written by jummy84

The U.S. space agency NASA is rejecting conspiracy claims by Kim Kardashian that the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landings did not happen.

In the most recent episode of her family’s hit reality show, The Kardashians, Kardashian says she thinks the pivotal lunar expedition was a hoax, citing a series of articles that, she claims, explain why some aspects of the footage and photographs taken on the moon are unreliable.

Shortly after the episode aired, NASA acting administrator Sean Duffy rebuked Kardashian, writing to her in a post on X, “Yes, we’ve been to the Moon before… 6 times!”

Yes, @KimKardashian, we’ve been to the Moon before… 6 times!

And even better: @NASAArtemis is going back under the leadership of @POTUS.

We won the last space race and we will win this one too 🇺🇸🚀

Kardashian responded to his post, saying, “Wait…. what’s the tea on 3I Atlas?!?!!!!!!!?????,” an interstellar comet, which, according to astronomers, is the third-ever object from outside our solar system to pass through our “celestial neighbourhood.”

Duffy replied with an invitation to the launch of NASA’s Artemis mission to the moon at Kennedy Space Center.

“We love your excitement about our Artemis mission to the Moon. You’re officially invited to launch at Kennedy Space Center!” he wrote.

Great question!@NASA’s observations show that this is the third interstellar comet to pass through our solar system. No aliens. No threat to life here on Earth.

3 = the third
I = interstellar, meaning from beyond our solar system
ATLAS = discovered by our Asteroid… https://t.co/StDNRqvRCJ

Conspiracy theories that the moon landings did not take place have existed for decades, despite being consistently debunked.

In the episode, Kardashian can be seen showing actor Sarah Paulson — with whom she is co-starring in the upcoming Ryan Murphy legal drama “All’s Fair” — a quote from an interview with Buzz Aldrin, who, along with Neil Armstrong, took the first steps on the moon.

“There was no scary moment because it didn’t happen. It could’ve been scary, but it wasn’t because it didn’t happen,” she reads, “he says it all the time in interviews,” she added, “maybe we should find Buzz Aldrin.”

Kardashian was referring to a comment Aldrin made during a 2015 talk at the Oxford University Students’ Union, when he responded to a student’s question about the Apollo 11 mission.

“What was the scariest moment of the journey?” the student asked.

“Scariest? It didn’t happen,” Aldrin answered, smiling. “It could’ve been scary. Circuit breaker,” he says, before the moderator asks: “The circuit breaker on the [indecipherable]?”

“I’m glad somebody helps me,” Aldrin said, before continuing. “We came back inside after kicking up dust and picking up some rocks and of course, we had to send them up the ladder because that would be hazardous, carrying a big rock box up the ladder.”

He said the crew and team had thought of that plan ahead of time, and that Aldrin got into the cabin first so that his colleagues could hand the rock box up to him.

“Then we were supposed to tidy up and tidy up means get rid of stuff you don’t need so we won’t be as heavy to lift off,” he said, describing the process of pressurizing and depressurizing the cabin and hooking up to the spacecraft system, and how crews back on the ground said they could hear the crew through the seismographer that recorded the vibrations of sounds “bouncing around on the moon.”

He then described how the crew settled back into the cabin, and noticed something in the dust of the rocks they had been collecting.

“There was something that didn’t look like it belonged there. It was a circuit breaker — a broken circuit breaker, the end of it,” he said.

“Engine arm,” Aldrin added the label on the breaker said, which was for the system used for the landing engine. “That’s the one that gets us back in orbit and gets us home.”

He then said he “used a pen to push it in,” and then called it a “piece of cake.”

Later, during a scene back in her trailer, Kardashian tells a crew member behind the camera, “I centre conspiracies all the time,” before elaborating on her disbelief, saying that no stars are visible in any of the photographic evidence captured from the landing — a popular argument from skeptics, according to the Institute of Physics.

There is a simple explanation for the lack of stars, the institute says: the photos were taken during the day.

“This meant starlight lost the battle against the very bright surface of the Moon, too dim to show up in photos,” its website says.

According to the institute, every conspiracy theory claiming that the moon landings were fake has been disproven.

Often, the expert organization argues, those who claim the landings were staged say the U.S. government faked Apollo 11 and later missions to deal a crucial blow to the USSR in the Space Race, boost NASA funding or divert attention away from the Vietnam War.

Bhojpuri superstar Pawan Singh is once again in the spotlight, this time due to a new statement by his wife, Jyoti Singh, regarding their ongoing marital dispute. Jyoti has strongly denied the allegations that she demanded ₹30 crore in alimony, calling the claim completely baseless and defamatory. The controversy began when Pawan Singh’s lawyer alleged that Jyoti had made a demand of ₹30 crore as part of the separation proceedings.

Jyoti Singh Clarified Her Point

However, Jyoti has now clarified her stance, saying she has never made any such demand and that a malicious conspiracy is being spread to defame her reputation. “There is a court process which involves maintenance, but this is not a fixed amount. I have never demanded ₹30 crore. If someone can prove this, I am ready to face any punishment,” she explained. In her emotional statement, Jyoti Singh emphasized that despite their differences, she still considers herself Pawan Singh’s wife and has no desire to part ways.

Jyoti said, “Until I am divorced from Pawan Singh, I prefer to be called his wife and remain his wife. I am an Indian woman, and for me, marriage is sacred. I will try my best to avoid divorce.” Her words highlight her belief in the sanctity of marriage and her wish to hold on to the relationship despite ongoing challenges. In a rare and deeply personal revelation, Jyoti Singh also spoke about the pain of not having children even after seven years of marriage.

Her heartfelt confession struck a chord with fans, who expressed sympathy and support for her emotional struggle. Jyoti also revealed that not only Pawan Singh but even his family members have distanced themselves from her. “Not only Pawan, but his entire family has stopped talking to me. I have tried to contact them several times, but they have not responded,” she said. Her statement sheds light on the widening rift between the couple and their families, even as the legal process continues.

bitchy | Mail: There’s a conspiracy afoot about King Charles & Prince William’s rift

by jummy84 September 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Yesterday, the Daily Mail’s Richard Eden claimed there was a dark, malevolent conspiracy afoot in the house of Windsor. That conspiracy? Prince Harry plans to visit the UK more often, which will obviously “undermine” Prince William and Kate, and King Charles is just letting it happen! That’s part of the conspiracy too, that Charles is displeased with his heir, and Charles doesn’t give a sh-t about William’s panic and rage about Harry and Meghan. Eden managed to draw out those conspiratorial observations into high crimes and misdemeanors. Well, Becky English said: wait a minute, there’s something THERE. English followed up Eden’s coverage with this piece, which sounds a lot like Prince William’s courtiers and handlers trying to placate him (while adjusting his meds). Some highlights:

The conspiracy!! If recent events are anything to go by, then something is starting to look more than a little suspect. From sources at the weekend, apparently close to the Sussexes, suggesting Prince Harry might be able to ‘help’ lighten the load of royal engagements, to claims by biographer Tina Brown that King Charles is ‘less irritated’ by his prodigal son than he is by Prince William over his work ethic, there has been a torrent of suggestions about tensions at the top. Indeed, a source close to both the King and the Prince of Wales told me starkly this week: ‘It’s evident there’s an attempt to manufacture division between them, when in reality, no such rift exists. In truth, their relationship is as strong as ever, they are aligned in their work, with many areas of shared interest, and united in their vision for the role of the Royal Family.’

Something calculated is happening: Sometimes a media whisper (that may or may not have a nugget of truth at the heart of it) is whipped up into a cacophony of speculation, particularly online. But there’s now more than a flicker of suspicion in royal circles that something more calculated could be at work. What or who may be behind the conjecture isn’t clear. But it is a worrying turn of events after I revealed earlier this year that Kensington Palace had discovered Russian bots were seeking to disseminate misinformation around the Princess of Wales’s prolonged absence from public life in the run-up to her cancer announcement last year.

William & Charles’s actual relationship: It’s important to acknowledge, in the interests of fairness, that William, 43, and his 76-year-old father have never had the easiest of relationships. No surprise given their complex family history, particularly the breakdown of Charles’s marriage to William’s mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. Harsh words have been exchanged in the past, angry rows permeating even the thickest castle walls, sometimes within earshot of staff. There have also been clashes of opinion on the professional side, such as the retention of ivory treasures in the Royal Collection (William wants to burn them, Charles believes they should be kept as historical artefacts) which not so long ago resulted in a ‘frank’ exchange.

Windsor men’s quick temper: But really, isn’t that what families can be like? And what bothers you in your 20s or 30s, doesn’t seem quite so important at 40. Particularly given the rollercoaster of the past few years for William, with his younger brother’s very public betrayal and his wife’s shock cancer diagnosis. Similarly the King, who like many Windsor men can have a quick temper, is facing his own health challenges. While he is managing his cancer diagnosis extremely well, I am told, it has, naturally, been hugely challenging at times. And with both age and illness can often come a reassessment of what matters most. While it’s not a phrase he would personally use, the King is more of a proponent of ‘don’t sweat the small stuff’ nowadays, in his own way. ‘Do they [the King and William] sit down for dinner every night, or even see each other every week? No. But they never have,’ a source reminds me. ‘However they do speak regularly and they are in absolute lockstep about the future of the monarchy and the good it can do this country.’

Competitive tensions: Another source adds: ‘Like many father-son relationships, there are occasional personal and competitive tensions. Both are very driven individuals and have very similar interests such as the environment, conservation, the military and helping deprived communities. However, they are also going about supporting them in quite different ways. Does that sometimes bring them into competition with one another? Yes, to be fair, it does. But ultimately they have the same goal: to make life better for the people of this country.’

Why Charles & William rarely do events together: ‘The whole point of having a Prince of Wales with a separate household and funding from the monarch is that they have space and autonomy to try things in a different way,’ a source argues. ‘Sometimes they get things right, sometimes wrong. But even their failures make them a better king when they get there. Don’t forget His Majesty had more than his fair share of ups and downs as heir to the throne.’

Willy’s trip to Balmoral this week: Indeed, I can reveal that they will be both be up in Scotland this week – admittedly staying in different residences (Birkhall for the King and neighbouring Balmoral for William, as is their habit) but they plan to meet and will almost certainly attend church together this Sunday. ‘Scotland is a place they both love,’ my source says.

William’s tough time: And if the King privately feels his son could possibly take up some of the slack on those royal engagements, it’s not something that comes up in conversation. ‘If prioritising his family helps make him [William] a better king, it’s got to be a good investment,’ says one who knows them both. ‘The Prince of Wales has had a universally sh***y time of late… he lost his beloved grandmother, his brother, and has faced terrible heartache with his father and his wife. If this [way of doing things] makes him feel that much more happy and confident when the moment comes and he accedes him to the throne, then that’s something his father supports.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Something to keep in mind, just one week ago, the Mail also published A.N. Wilson’s “what’s eating William” takedown. And when Tina Brown’s Fresh Hell Substack dropped – in which she openly said that Charles is less annoyed with Harry than lazy-ass William – that gave ALL of the British media an opening to publicly discuss what had been common knowledge among royalists. This isn’t a conspiracy, it’s the media starting to acknowledge that all is not well with William in particular. This piece by English is almost entirely based on William’s narrative too, this is damage-control by his office, not Charles’s. This is William “forging” his father’s signature on pity-poor-Willy talking points. “He lost his beloved grandmother, his brother…” Harry is not dead, and it’s disgusting that the only way William can get through the f–king day is by pretending that his brother is dead or a “non-person” or whatever psychotic phrasing they use.
