Billy Idol Teams Up with Composer J. Ralph on “Dying to Live”

by jummy84 November 15, 2025
written by jummy84

Billy Idol has collaborated with composer J. Ralph on the song “Dying to Live,” as featured in the documentary Billy Idol Should Be Dead. The cinematic tune shares lyrics with the title track to Idol’s most recent studio LP, Dream Into It, but was actually written and recorded first, prior to the rock version heard on the album.

The song features symphonic elements, and serves as the soundtrack to the coda sequence of the film, which debuted earlier this year at the Tribeca Festival, and will hit streaming services beginning in early 2026. A music video can be seen below.

“It’s quite something watching a documentary about your own life,” stated Idol. “Seeing the landscape of my story all laid out inspired me to want to write a song for the end of the film that brings together what I saw in the film; all the strands of my life really. It was thrilling to work together with J. Ralph. Symphonic music has a unique cinematic authenticity, we felt this was essential to capturing the range of emotions the climactic moment of the film called for.”

‘Joker’ Composer Hildur Guðnadóttir on Gyllenhaal’s The Bride!’

by jummy84 October 2, 2025

Here comes “The Bride!” Composer Hildur Guðnadóttir, who received an Academy Award for “Joker,” is already waiting for her.

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s upcoming monster movie, taking on the “Frankenstein” mythos, stars Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale. In the film, Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aid of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. They end up reinvigorating a murdered young woman.

“It was a little bit nuts,” she laughs.

“The Bride!” debuted its trailer back in September.

“It’s a very layered world with lots of different things happening. There’s a love story, thriller and the monstrous birth of a woman. There’s lots of excitement and violence,” says Guðnadóttir, describing Gyllenhaal’s follow-up to “The Lost Daughter” as “intense.”

“It was both very punk and very romantic, which made it kind of crazy. There’s screaming electric guitar AND an orchestra. That’s what’s so interesting to me about film as a medium. It’s not about being ‘real’ or accurate. You can have fun and let your imagination run wild.”

Guðnadóttir, born in Iceland, talks to Variety at Zurich Film Festival, where she’ll receive the career achievement award and showcase Nia DaCosta’s “Hedda.” Featuring Tessa Thompson, it’s based on Henrik Ibsen’s 1890 play.

“Throughout history, women were portrayed as a good princess or a bad witch. But they’re much more than that, which is why it’s so important to revisit juicy characters like Hedda. She’s not just nice or resentful. She’s everything. Just like Lydia Tár,” she says, mentioning Cate Blanchett’s tour-de-force role in Todd Field’s drama she also scored.

“I’m so interested in these complex women and I try to match their complexity with my music.”

With DaCosta’s post-apocalyptic horror “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” set to premiere next year, Guðnadóttir admits she generally tends to “gravitate more towards darkness.”

“I’m trying to understand why that is. Why do I keep coming back? Then again, we can’t shy away from difficult subjects, darker sides of human nature, mental illness or catastrophes like Chernobyl.” She also scored the acclaimed HBO miniseries, winning an Emmy and a Grammy for her work.

“We have to learn from these stories – and our mistakes. And try to understand what we can do better.”

She wanted to go dark also in “Women Talking,” based on a novel by Miriam Toews and depicting an isolated religious community where women are being drugged and sexually assaulted. Director Sarah Polley changed her mind.

“That was such an interesting project to score, because the subject is so harsh. It’s really violent – it’s hard to face what these women went through. When I first read the script, I just remember being so angry on behalf of them,” she recalls.

“I was upset, so it would be easy to write very angry or aggressive music. Sarah’s approach was interesting, because she didn’t want to dwell on the horror. What we see is horrendous enough – we don’t need to add more. She wanted to give these women hope. This doesn’t have to define who they are forever.”

That was the role of the music, she explains: to serve as “the counterpoint to the horror.”

“It was supposed to be hopeful and light, and drive the story forward while looking at their beautiful relationship. My intuition was dark – Sarah pointed me into something lighter. It gave me a lot of hope, too.”

It was a precious experience also because it’s not easy to remain hopeful these days, she notes.

“There’s the uprising of hate speech and we’re going backwards on women’s rights. It’s something I’ve really been struggling with and struggling with how to respond. It makes you numb, seeing where this whole conversation about women is heading. You’re speechless.”

She adds: “I thought to myself: What difference does it make if I make music or not, when there’s so much hatred? I’ve been sitting with it for the last few months, but the worst I can do is to stay silent. I have to continue using my voice and connecting with people from a place of empathy and care.”

To prove her point, Guðnadóttir will be heading on a small tour with latest album “Where to From.” “My first solo album in 10 years!,” she enthuses. Puppeteer Giséle Vienne is behind the cover art.

“I used to tour all the time, but when I had my son, I stopped traveling as much. I focused more on composition and less on performing. I haven’t played a cello concert for nine years, almost to the day,” she shakes her head.

“It was time to go back. Sitting in a room full of people, listening to music together… It’s so powerful.”

Grace Antony Weds Composer Aby Tom Cyriac in a Heartfelt Kochi Ceremony

by jummy84 September 10, 2025
written by jummy84

Actor Grace Antony, one of Malayalam cinema’s brightest talents, is officially married. On Tuesday, she and composer Aby Tom Cyriac exchanged vows at the Our Lady of Dolours Roman Catholic Church in Kakkanad, Kochi. The ceremony was kept deliberately private with no elaborate rituals, no flashing lights, no heavy guest lists. Sharing the moment with fans, Grace posted a simple caption on Instagram: “No sounds, no lights, no crowds. Finally we made it. #justmarried”.

The pair, who have been together for nearly a decade, chose intimacy over grandeur, creating a moment that felt both personal and deeply romantic.

Two Journeys, One Partnership

Grace Antony stepped into the industry with Happy Wedding in 2016 and quickly became known for her ability to slip seamlessly into diverse roles. Whether it was the restrained brilliance of Kumbalangi Nights, the humour of Kanakam Kaamini Kalaham, or the intensity of Rorschach and Appan, she has proven herself one of the most versatile performers of her generation. Recently, she ventured into Tamil cinema with director Ram’s Paranthu Po, starring opposite Shiva, further widening her creative footprint.

Aby Tom Cyriac, meanwhile, has made his mark from behind the scenes. Starting out as an arranger and programmer, he eventually became a full-fledged composer. His discography includes titles like Paavada, Second Innings, Shikhamani, Sakalakalashala and Kadalassu Thoni. With contributions to over 300 projects across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi cinema, Aby is respected as both a prolific composer and a trusted collaborator for some of the industry’s biggest names.

Warm Wishes from Colleagues

As soon as the news broke, social media was abuzz with congratulatory notes from friends and colleagues. Industry peers such as Unni Mukundan, Kani Kusruti, Samvritha Akhil, and Rajisha Vijayan dropped in heartfelt comments under Grace’s post, celebrating the couple’s new chapter. For fans who have followed Grace’s journey from her debut to her latest projects, the wedding felt like a moment of collective joy.

What stands out most about this celebration is how reflective it is of Grace and Aby’s personalities. Just as Grace’s screen presence balances subtlety with power, and Aby’s music blends craft with emotion, their wedding was understated yet meaningful. No extravagant displays, just love, commitment, and the promise of a shared future.

White Lotus Composer Wins Emmy After Mike White Feud

by jummy84 September 8, 2025
written by jummy84

The White Lotus composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer has won the award for best original main title theme music at the 2025 Creative Arts Emmy Awards following a public falling out with the show’s creator Mike White. The win marks de Veer’s third Emmy for the HBO drama, which he’s scored since its premiere in 2021.

In April, de Veer told The New York Times that he would not be returning for the series’ fourth season, saying, “I announced to the [editorial] team a few months ago that I was not coming back, that I was leaving. … At some point, [White] heard about that.”

According to de Veer, he and White butted heads over the show’s opening theme song, specifically the “ooh-loo-loo-loos” that were a part of the season one track. In season three, the sound was removed from the series’ opening credit music, but was still featured on the full version of the track, with de Veer admitting, “I just stuck to what I was doing. And when I was giving versions, it was still the same thing.”

Days after de Veer’s New York Times story ran, White responded to the article in an interview with Howard Stern, saying, “I honestly don’t know what happened, except now I’m reading his interviews because he decides to do some PR campaign about him leaving the show. I don’t think he respected me. He wants people to know that he’s edgy and dark and I’m, I don’t know, like I watch reality TV. We never really even fought. He says we feuded. I don’t think I ever had a fight with him — except for maybe some emails. It was basically me giving him notes. I don’t think he liked to go through the process of getting notes from me, or wanting revisions, because he didn’t respect me. I knew he wasn’t a team player and that he wanted to do it his way. I was thrown that he would go to The New York Times to shit on me and the show three days before the finale. It was kind of a bitch move.”

For his part, de Veer noted his reluctance to take notes from White in the Times, saying, “Maybe I was being unprofessional, and, for sure, Mike feels that I was always unprofessional to him because I didn’t give him what he wanted. But what I gave him did this, you know — [won] those Emmys, people going crazy [for the show],” he said. “That is the main thing that I’m most happy about — it was worth all the tension and almost forcing the music into the show, in a way, because I didn’t have that many allies in there … This was a good struggle.”

De Veer won Emmys for both best music composition and best original main title music in 2022 and best music composition in 2023 for The White Lotus, which received a total of 23 Emmy nominations overall this year. The 2025 award for best music composition went to Severance.

The 2025 Creative Arts Emmy Awards are held on Saturday, Sept. 6 and Sunday, Sept. 7 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Check out the full list of winners here.
