De Vere chef triumphs in European heats of prestigious IACC Copper Skillet competition

De Vere, a collection of historic mansion house estates and distinctive contemporary hotels, is celebrating after one of its chefs took first place in the European heat of the acclaimed IACC Copper Skillet Challenge in Sweden.

Ben Parris, Executive Head Chef at De Vere Horsley Estate, located in Surrey, was one of four chefs in the senior category, each competing under pressure to impress a panel of esteemed judges. Ben will now head to New York to represent the UK and Europe in the global finals in April 2026.

The IACC Copper Skillet is one of the most respected culinary competitions in the hospitality and conference sector, showcasing the creativity, skill and versatility of chefs working in leading conference venues worldwide.

The challenge required each chef to design and cook two portions of a main course dish in only 30 minutes, using a pantry of staples and a selection of mystery ingredients, with the rule that at least two of the five surprise proteins had to be incorporated. Dishes were assessed on originality, technique, presentation, flavour balance, hygiene standards and minimal food waste.

In the final, Ben chose halibut fillet and local Högbo Bruk cheese. He created a dish of braised fennel with tarragon and the local cheese, pan-fried Halibut fillet, a salad of local vegetables and a classic sauce vierge dressing and fresh herbs.

Ben Parris said: “The European heat was highly competitive, with some incredibly talented chefs taking part and I’m honoured to have made it to the final stage. The competition is a real test of the skills required in conference and events catering, and I’m thrilled to be representing the UK and Europe in the final stages of the competition next year.”

Michael Micallef, General Manager at De Vere Horsley Estate said: “We are all incredibly proud of Ben for his outstanding achievement throughout this competition. His exceptional skill and composure in a highly pressured environment have really set him apart.

The Global Showdown will take place at the Windrose on Hudson in New York, where Ben will compete against champions from the Americas and Asia-Pacific.

‘Dancing With The Stars’ Elaine Hendrix Shares Injury Update & Future In ABC Competition

Elaine Hendrix was forced out of her appearance on Dancing with the Stars this past week due to an injury.

The Parent Trap alum and her partner, Alan Bersten, did not perform during the Halloween special following the incident. In a new video shared on social media, Hendrix gave an update on her health.

“I am starting pain management today,” Hendrix said in a post on Instagram. “I’m not dancing today, I’m not dancing tomorrow. We’ll be back at it Friday.”

As for her future in the ABC dancing competition, Hendrix said, “I’m just getting ready to be in that ballroom next Tuesday.”

Hendrix’s post on Instagram also included a message to fans and everyone who has reached out to her for their support following the injury.

“THANK YOU for every message, vote, and word of encouragement. We couldn’t do this without you,” read the caption of the post. “The hardest part of yesterday was not being able to show you just how incredible our piece could have been. Here’s my costume, hair, and the overall inspo we had planned for last night. The DWTS creative team is THE BEST!”

Hendrix seemingly has no intentions of leaving the competition as long as she is still able to perform. Although she did not dance in the latest show, Hendrix was still judged for the Argentine tango she performed during Tuesday’s rehearsal before she had to be carried off on a stretcher.

In a video she shared online from a hospital bed following the injury, Hendrix said, “Halloween is my favorite, and I’m devastated. I was beyond excited to share what we had worked so hard on, although you’ll see a version of it. With your support, I’ll be back in the ballroom next week. I want nothing more.”

Slamdance 2025 Screenplay Competition Winners List

Returning for their festival’s 32nd edition from February 19-25, 2026, the bold voices behind Slamdance continue to tell a cutting-edge story by honoring breakout talents who could redefine the film and TV business, too. On Tuesday night in Los Angeles (the event’s new home after leaving Park City, Utah and Sundance behind last year), the 2025 Slamdance screenwriting competition announced its winners at an awards ceremony downtown — hosted by AGBO, the indie studio founded by Anthony and Joe Russo.

In 2025, the contest celebrated writers across five categories: feature film, horror/thriller, TV pilot, short film, and screenplay mentorship. Slamdance awarded more than $18,000 in prizes and creative resources to the talented winners who emerged from a competitive pool of more than 4,200 submissions. A TV pilot about motherhood and healthcare following a woman working in a rural clinic, “The Badlands Woman’s Clinic” by Brennan Cusack took home the $10,000 grand prize.

“We read thousands of stories this year, and ‘Badlands Woman’s Clinic’ didn’t just stand out — it recalibrated the room,” said festival director Taylor Miller in a press release. “It’s the kind of writing that changes how you think about what television can hold. At a time when storytelling is engineered to please algorithms, this pilot refuses the formula.”

Reflecting on the win, Cusack continued, “In a country where millions live in ‘maternity care deserts,’ ‘The Badlands Clinic’ celebrates the women who have worked together to create oases. This story explores the transformational power of choice in women’s lives. Here in rural America, choice is not just a headline. It is power, identity, dignity, community, and survival.”

First place winners in the other four categories took home $2,000 each, as well as one-year memberships to Roadmap Writers (an educational digital platform for screenwriting) and complimentary legal services from Pessah Law Group — an official fest sponsor and Slamdance’s own legal counsel. Awarded to “The Gift of Rain” by Renn Tan, the Best Feature winner will also get script coverage from Sony Pictures Classics.

Screenwriter Erick Torres was given this year’s Slamdance Screenplay Mentorship Award for “Cucuy,” the story of a fighting dog who escapes the pits to pursue redemption. The festival will collaborate with Torres to turn that captivating idea into an even better script through one-on-one coaching sessions.

“Cucuy is a story of endurance, trauma, second chances, and the power of love,” said festival manager Anna Lee Lawson in the same release. “Torres demonstrates remarkable talent through his emotional depth, creativity, and ability to tell a powerful story without relying on dialogue. We see tremendous potential here and look forward to working with Erick.”

Even on a regular working Friday, Kantara Chapter 1 maintained strong momentum, seeing only a 27–30% drop from its debut day. The movie is now setting new standards for Sandalwood and has emerged as serious competition for other major releases, including Jolly LLB 3, especially in the Hindi-speaking markets.

One of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’s biggest challenges is its box office clash with Kantara Chapter 1, the much-hyped Kannada prequel directed by and starring Rishab Shetty. The latter has opened with over ₹65 crore.

Which city saw the most footfall?

Released on October 2, the film saw an overall Hindi occupancy of 32.45%, with evening shows driving the majority of footfall. Cinema occupancy on Day 1 showed clear regional differences. Chennai led with 58%, followed by Bengaluru (51.33%) and Kolkata (45.67%), with peak turnout in evening shows. Mumbai, NCR, and Hyderabad also performed well, while Surat, Bhopal, and Ahmedabad saw low footfall. Across cities, afternoon and evening slots dominated, with Chennai standing out for its high engagement despite limited shows.

Starring Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, and Rohit Saraf, the film rides on Dharma Productions’ glossy presentation and romantic-comedy beats. Despite a decent buzz and star power, SSKTK faced stiff competition from Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara Chapter 1’, which opened to a massive ₹65 crore on the same day, overshadowing many releases with its mythological action-drama scale and critical acclaim.

While fans praised the film for its light-hearted tone and lead pair’s chemistry, critics had a more measured response. “In the performance department, Varun keeps you entertained, grasping the beats well. Janhvi looks pretty and is earnest throughout, but stumbles in the emotional scenes, which should ideally reduce you to a mess. Sanya struggles with an underwritten role, managing to execute it purely because of her acting chops. Rohit performs well. Maniesh Paul, as a wedding planner, evokes some laughs. Overall, what Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari suffers from is not a lack of ambition but a lack of clarity. It wants to be a romance and a family drama all at once, yet it never commits fully to any of these tracks. For a story about fighting for love, SSKTK doesn’t make you fall in love with it,” read the HT review.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned ₹4 crore net on Day 8 (Friday) — mirroring its Thursday performance — bringing its Indian net total to ₹78 crore.

Globally, the film entered the ₹100 crore club by Day 6, and by the end of its first week, it has reportedly grossed ₹113 crore worldwide, including ₹24.50 crore from overseas markets, according to IMDb and Sacnilk.

The film is on track to surpass the lifetime collection of the original Jolly LLB (₹48.7 crore) and is inching closer to matching or even overtaking Jolly LLB 2 (₹201.34 crore lifetime gross). The second weekend will be crucial in determining its long-term box office fate.

The story follows Rajaram Solanki, a poor farmer who dies by suicide after being exploited by corrupt officials and a powerful builder, Haribhai Khaitan. Akshay Kumar plays Advocate Jolly Mishra, who initially supports the builder but later teams up with Arshad Warsi’s Jolly Tyagi to expose the truth.

The film also stars Huma Qureshi, Saurabh Shukla, Gajraj Rao, and Amrita Rao in pivotal roles. Jolly LLB 3 continues to resonate with audiences for its relevant message and gripping courtroom drama.
