Universal Music Group and AI Music Company Udio Reach Agreement in Lawsuit

by jummy84 October 30, 2025
written by jummy84

Universal Music Group (UMG) and Udio, an artificial intelligence (AI) developer focused on music, have reached an agreement in last year’s copyright infringement lawsuit, which UMG, Sony Music, Warner Music Group, and the Recording Industry Association of America brought against Udio and Suno. At the time, UMG accused Udio of copyright infringement on an “almost unimaginable scale” and training its AI models on the label’s recordings. A press release from UMG states that the two companies will now “collaborate on an innovative, new commercial music creation, consumption, and streaming experience,” as Billboard notes. The deal also includes a compensatory legal settlement for UMG.

UMG’s lawsuit against Udio was focused solely on infringement of the company’s sound recordings; the new agreement has established a licensing framework for UMG’s sound recordings as well as songs and publishing assets. Participating UMG artists and songwriters will receive financial compensation for the training of AI models and for its outputs. The new collaborative platform launches in 2026, and UMG artists and songwriters can opt in to participate. Songs created using Udio’s current model will be “controlled within a walled garden,” fingerprinted, and filtered before the new effects go into place.

“The new subscription service will transform the user engagement experience, creating a licensed and protected environment to customize, stream, and share music responsibly, on the Udio platform,” reads the press release. Billboard reports that users can create mashups, remixes, and tempo changes to existing, licensed works; swap vocals with UMG artists’ voices who opted in to the program; and can only listen to the creations within the service.

In a statement, Udio co-founder and chief executive Andrew Sanchez said, “This moment brings to life everything we’ve been building toward—uniting AI and the music industry in a way that truly champions artists. Together, we’re building the technological and business landscape that will fundamentally expand what’s possible in music creation and engagement.”

UMG chairman and chief executive Lucian Grainge added, “These new agreements with Udio demonstrate our commitment to do what’s right by our artists and songwriters, whether that means embracing new technologies, developing new business models, diversifying revenue streams or beyond. We look forward to working with Andrew who shares our belief that together, we can foster a healthy commercial AI ecosystem in which artists, songwriters, music companies and technology companies can all flourish and create incredible experiences for fans.”

Barco, the Cinema Projection Company, Expands HDR Format in Germany

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Barco, the cinema projection company, is expanding its premium HDR by Barco format in Germany.

Starting in November, the company will install the Barco HDR format at select Cineplex Germany locations and in Cinedom Cologne. This expansion marks a major footprint in European moviegoing, as Cineplex is a leading German exhibitor, and Cinedom Cologne is one of the country’s largest cinemas.

The initiative will bring premium large format cinema to Cineplex Goslar and Cineplex Paderborn for the first time. As part of the international expansion, HDR by Barco is launching at three Cineplex Germany venues — Cineplex Münster, Cineplex Paderborn Pollux and Cineplex Goslar — available as “Ultimate. in HDR by Barco” at these locations.

Cineplex Münster, celebrating 25 years of operation this month, will be the first theater in the world with two HDR by Barco enabled auditoriums, representing a technological expansion to their current PLF offering. At Cinedom Cologne, the new HDR theater will launch the circuit’s new “CinedomX” experience, a freshly conceived premium cinema concept from the brand. Installations are underway now so moviegoers in Germany will be able to enjoy major holiday tentpoles opening in HDR by Barco this holiday season.

“We’re proud to bring HDR by Barco to German audiences through our partnerships with
Cineplex and Cinedom—two of the country’s most respected cinema brands,” said Gerwin
Damberg, EVP of Barco Cinema. “As someone who grew up in Germany, this milestone is
personally meaningful. It’s exciting to see our vision and technology come full circle, enhancing
the cinematic experience in the very theaters that once inspired my love of film.”

The company’s CEO An Steegen, who is on Variety‘s Women’s Impact report for 2025, said: “The accelerated drive for innovation and elevating cinema experience is transforming and reinvigorating the industry. The 2026 slate looks strong, and audiences will have a lot to look forward to. Many of the technology initiatives announced this year will continue, or in some cases rapidly expand, into next year, bringing more options and more access to exceptional cinema.”

She added the company is focused on the expansion of HDR by Barco using Lightsteering technology. “Innovation is at the heart of everything we do. We’re always working on our portfolio roadmap to fuel a pipeline of solutions that are capable of powering the world of entertainment today and tomorrow,” she said. “Whether that means more efficient technologies, a lower environmental impact, advanced image quality or cutting-edge experiences, we’re on a mission to leverage innovation to drive results for the industries we work in, and the people who benefit from them. In cinema, this means taking care of partners in exhibition for the long-term and delivering what they need to keep moviegoers coming back week after week.”

Past releases in the format have included “Superman,” “F1” and “28 Years Later.” The upcoming “Wicked: For Good” will also be released in HDR format this year.

Stateside, Barco is also expanding the reach of its HDR format through partnerships with exhibitors and will have more than 30 HDR locations by the end of the year. Regal Cinemas has committed to establishing 20 RPX screens in the U.S. by the end of this year, and Alamo Drafthouse is also scheduled to add several HDR screens.

Based on the company’s patented Lightsteering technology, Barco’s approach to HDR works by strategically redistributing light on screen to produce highlights that are over six times brighter than traditional projection, while retaining rich details in the darks for greater depth, clarity and range. HDR by Barco delivers expansive creative possibilities for filmmakers, producing a wide color gamut with high-contrast images that captivate audiences.

Texas Attorney General Sues Johnson & Johnson, Makers Of Tylenol, Claims Company Hid
Autism Risks

The company behind #Tylenol is gearing up for a legal battle.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson and its spinoff #Kenvue, alleging that the companies marketed Tylenol (acetaminophen) as safe for pregnant women while “knowingly endangering millions to line their pockets.” The suit asserts the companies concealed evidence linking prenatal or early-childhood exposure to acetaminophen with an increased risk of #autism and #ADHD. The legal filing follows recent federal guidance announced by President #Trump and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., which advises pregnant women to avoid acetaminophen due to concerns it may be linked to autism.

The defendants strongly contest the case. Kenvue stated: “We stand firmly with the global medical community that acknowledges the safety of acetaminophen and believe we will continue to be successful in litigation as these claims lack legal merit and scientific support.” In addition, Medical experts continue to maintain that there is no clear evidence proving a direct link between Tylenol and autism.

Staging company T3W make their mark in Trafalgar Square

by jummy84 October 28, 2025
written by jummy84

Staging and crewing company T3W were the stage suppliers of choice for a triad of major events which took place over the summer at London’s Trafalgar Square.

Chosen for their expertise, T3W provided staging solutions for McLaren Racing Live: London, run by Velocity Experience, and Pride in London and Canada Day, run by LS Events. Their structures supported a week of high-profile performances and public showcases in one the capital’s most iconic locations.

Run by brothers, Mark, Paul and Andrew Gibson, T3W prides itself on offering a personal, professional service and brings over 20 years of industry experience to every project. For these events the T3W team installed a covered 14-meter-wide performance space, which was tailored to the constraints of Trafalgar Square, along with two technical wings, two PA towers, two video wall structures and a wheelchair-accessible lift. Layer scaffolding formed the substructures and towers, and a T3W-owned custom fabrication formed the roof and decking system.

Julia Bruns, production manager, at LS Events said, “We commissioned T3W to build a Layher stage in Trafalgar Square and the team were brilliant to work with, both during the advance process and onsite, navigating the challenges of the site build space and surrounding heritage infrastructure. They were easy to work with, and their team were professional and respectful of the build environment.

“Paul and Mark were excellent at finding solutions for several build changes across three shows and co-operated with other suppliers. Their customer service was excellent, and we look forward to working with T3W again.”

Paul led the build with his team of eight skilled stage builders, who worked under tight time pressures due to the central London location to meet strict deadlines. Despite the challenges and weather conditions ranging from blistering 32°C heat to torrential rain and thunderstorms, the team successfully completed the build within the strict two-day window and dismantled the stage in one day.

Paul said: “It was an honour to be trusted to build on such a prestigious site for such large-scale events. The team rose to every challenge and went above and beyond to do our bit in making these events so successful.”

Given Trafalgar Square’s historic and architectural significance, including its designation as a listed site and proximity to the Grade I-listed Nelson’s Column, which the stage was built in front of, T3W implemented a series of protective measures. These included the use of Cap Track plastic matting beneath stillages during the build to safeguard the flagstones and using trusted operators to manage the heavy plant machinery including the 14-meter JCB telehandler, the 40-ton mobile crane supplied by Raymond Crane Hire Ltd, and the cherry picker.

McLaren Racing Live: London saw live appearances from key racing figures including racing drivers Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri and Mika Häkkinen, CEO of McLaren racing Zak Brown and Team Principal of McLaren’s Formula 1 team Andrea Stella. They joined the FormulaE car on the stage unveiling its new livery and showcasing the new papaya accents. J&C Joel branding company dressed the stage in papaya to reflect the new colour scheme and over 35,000 people attended the event. The stage itself went through three different rebrands throughout the week with red scrim for Canada day and rainbow colours for PRIDE.

Alongside the FormulaE car onstage Canada Day saw a diverse lineup of musical talent representing the Canadian music scene whilst London PRIDE showcased a powerful mix of legendary talent headlined by Chaka Khan and Durand Bernarr.

It was a successful week for T3W who alongside the Trafalgar Square build also supplied crew to a number of prestigious gigs and events including, Ed Sheeran at Ipswich’s Portman Road, Black Sabbath at Birmingham’s Villa Park, Oasis at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, ELO at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena, Drake at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena, Gracie Abrahams at Nottingham’s MotorPoint Arena and they supplied stage builders to Silverstone Race Course for the Formula 1 British Grand Prix.

‘The Chair Company’ Scores Strong Premiere Ratings for HBO

by jummy84 October 17, 2025
written by jummy84

A good number of viewers joined Tim Robinson in trying to figure out what’s happening with The Chair Company. Its Sunday lead-in, Task, is also drawing solid ratings heading into its finale.

HBO says 1.4 million viewers watched The Chair Company’s debut over three days on the HBO cable channel and HBO Max — making it the biggest comedy series premiere for HBO in more than five years (since Avenue 5 in early 2020). The show stars Robinson as a guy who gets drawn into a rabbit hole after a workplace mishap.

Robinson also co-created the well-reviewed series with his I Think You Should Leave and Detroiters collaborator Zach Kanin.

Task, meanwhile, has grown its audience each week since its Sept. 7 premiere. HBO says the penultimate episode drew 4 million cross-platform viewers over three days, the highest tally yet and 32 percent ahead of of the show’s premiere audience of just above 3 million.

The series premiere has grown to 10 million viewers over the past six-plus weeks, and Task as a whole is averaging 6.7 million viewers to date across platforms, HBO says. That’s right in line with series creator Brad Ingelsby’s last HBO show, Mare of Easttown, which at the same time during its run stood at 6.8 million viewers. Mare went on to amass 13 million viewers per episode in HBO’s 90-day measurement window.

As is usually the case with HBO shows, both The Chair Company and Task have brought in the great majority of their viewers from streaming on HBO Max. The Chair Company’s on-air premiere Sunday scored 124,000 viewers, or about 9 percent of its three-day total. Task drew 401,000 viewers Sunday, 10 percent of the episode’s three-day tally.

Raj Kundra’s ₹15 Crore Move To Shilpa Shetty’s Company Raises Eyebrows In ₹60 Crore Fraud Probe | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 September 28, 2025
written by jummy84

In a major breakthrough in the suspected ₹60-crore fraud case, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police has found that businessman Raj Kundra is suspected to have diverted about ₹15 crore into a bank account of a company belonging to his wife, Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty. The case involves Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, a defunct celebrity-biased teleshopping channel floated by Shetty, Kundra, and actor Akshay Kumar.

Official sources say the ₹15 crore transaction is under the scanner as the investigators feel the amount is way too high for what may normally be paid as charging for advert and promotional services. The EOW, therefore, is going to call for questioning Shilpa Shetty to ascertain the validity and intent of the transaction. She will be questioned on billing entries and on reconciling the cost of advertising the company allegedly incurred.

The EOW also added that some important documents remain to be filed by the Resolution Professionals (RPs) who were appointed for dealing with the finances of the company. These RPs were earlier called for questioning but have not presented all necessary documents, hampering the investigation process.

The investigation also revealed that a part of the total ₹60 crore funds was allegedly diverted to sister companies, which is indicative of another financial mismanagement and diversion of funds. Sources opined that the flow of funds could have been a deliberate plan to mask financial trail and keep the regulators in the dark.

Another important disclosure in the case relates to complainant Deepak Kothari, director at Lotus Capital Finance Services. He charged that he was deprived of an assured 26% equity stake in Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd. Investigators are suspecting this could be a tactical decision to steer clear of reporting shareholding trends to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), violating compulsory disclosure norms.

Raj Kundra, who has been in the EOW’s radar, was questioned for more than five hours on September 15 at an unknown location to avoid media attention. “We recorded the statement of Kundra today and will call him again next week. Several witnesses are still to be identified,” an official stated.

As the probe goes deeper, further high-profile grilling can be anticipated. With Shilpa Shetty set to be called in and further rounds of interrogation for Kundra, the case continues to attract a lot of attention.

AI Music Detection Tech Company Partners With UMG and Sony

by jummy84 September 26, 2025
written by jummy84

SoundPatrol has entered a partnership with Universal Music Group and Sony Music to protect artists from copyright infringement coming from AI music models.

According to a press release, SoundPatrol specializes in using a “forensic AI model for audio-video fingerprinting.” Through neural fingerprinting, SoundPatrol claims it can analyze fully (or partially) AI generated songs to identify influences and traces of human-made music.

Related

For the music industry, finding out ways to fingerprint, track and attribute traces of copyrighted material in AI songs is the key to properly compensating and crediting talent for their work when it’s used to influence AI models. In recent months, AI companies like Udio and Music AI have proactively announced partnerships with Audible Magic to help fingerprint their works.

But UMG and Sony’s approval of SoundPatrol’s “neural fingerprinting” approach represents a major co-sign for this type of technology, which SoundPatrol claims is “a significant advancement beyond traditional audio fingerprinting techniques”

“Traditional audio fingerprinting… primarily rel[ies] on matching exact audio snippets. Neural embeddings capture semantic relationships to identify covers, remixes and generative-AI derivatives,” the press release states. SoundPatrol also has future plans to develop tools and models that will “proactively help third-party platforms and research labs prevent copyright violations,” the press release reads.

SoundPatrol is a company that originated in a Stanford University lab and was founded by top AI, machine learning and cybersecurity academics. This includes Walter De Brouwer Ph. D., SoundPatrol’s co-founder and CEO, and Percy Liang Ph. D. (director of the Center for Foundation Models and leading Stanford’s Marin, the Open Lab for Building Foundation Models), Chris Re, Ph. D. (Stanford AI Lab, Director of FactoryHQ), and Dan Boneh, Ph. D. (Director of the Applied Cryptography Lab and Co Director of the Cybersecurity Lab).

Lucian Grainge, UMG’s chairman and CEO, says of the deal: “We’re constantly focused on enabling AI — bringing to market the many commercial and creative opportunities that will benefit our artists while establishing effective tools to protect them. Bringing solutions to the table that support the entire industry is at the heart of our relationship with SoundPatrol, who share our commitment to safeguarding our artists’ creative integrity and work.”

“The possibilities of AI present opportunities for artists and creators when used the right way,” says Dennis Kooker, president of global digital business at Sony Music. “We’re committed to navigating this developing landscape by protecting their work while also exploring the innovative potential of these technologies. Our collaboration with SoundPatrol is about respecting artists’ rights to build a sustainable and equitable ecosystem for everyone.”

“Generative AI is transforming music in extraordinary ways, but if we abandon copyright, we risk severing artists from ownership of their own work,” says Walter De Brouwer, SoundPatrol co-founder and CEO. “It is compulsory to proactively feed deep embeddings of these neural signatures into streaming infrastructures so that owners can maintain control, authenticity, and monetization of their intellectual property in the generative AI era. Eliminating copyright to accelerate AI is like changing the speed of light to advance physics — it misunderstands the fundamental laws that sustain creativity.”

Michael Ovitz, SoundPatrol co-founder and chairman of the board, adds: “This is a huge victory for all artists in the creative universe.” He continued: “One of the premier issues affecting artists has always been the protection of their intellectual property rights. SoundPatrol has answered the long-standing problem of IP theft by creating a frontier lab with neural fingerprinting capabilities that can identify all pipelines of directly transmitted content, whether on its own or intermixed, in real time. This is the first of-its-kind technology implemented to protect all copyright holders and creators of any type of intellectual property.”

Which ABC Stations Are Owned by the Company? – Hollywood Life

Two major television station conglomerates are “pre-empting” Jimmy Kimmel Live! despite ABC’s reinstatement of the show: Sinclair Broadcast Group and Nexstar Media Group. The companies own multiple TV stations affiliated with The Walt Disney Company’s ABC. Here, we explain what Nexstar is, which ABC stations it oversees and how this affects Jimmy Kimmel.

What Is Nexstar Media Group?

Nexstar is the largest television station owner in the U.S. as of 2025. It owns 197 stations around the country. Nexstar now operates The CW and The CW Plus.

Will Nexstar Air Jimmy Kimmel?

No, like Sinclair Broadcast Group, Nexstar is also refusing to air Jimmy Kimmel Live! even though ABC reinstated the show.

On September 23, 2025, Nexstar released a statement, which read, “We made a decision last week to preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! following what ABC referred to as Mr. Kimmel’s ‘ill-timed and insensitive’ comments at a critical time in our national discourse. We stand by that decision pending assurance that all parties are committed to fostering an environment of respectful, constructive dialogue in the markets we serve.”

“In the meantime, we note that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be available nationwide on multiple Disney-owned streaming products, while our stations will focus on continuing to produce local news and other programming relevant to their respective markets,” Nexstar pointed out.

The updated news release was titled, “Company Will Monitor the Show as it Returns to ABC.”

JUST IN: Nexstar joins Sinclair, announces they will continue preempting Jimmy Kimmel following his comments on Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

“We made a decision last week to preempt “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” following what ABC referred to as Mr. Kimmel’s “ill-timed and insensitive”… pic.twitter.com/90ynl45ABA

— Collin Rugg (@CollinRugg) September 23, 2025

What ABC Stations Belong to Nexstar?

Here are some of the ABC affiliate’s that Nexstar owns:

  • WDHN: Dothan, Alabama
  • WTNH: New Haven, Connecticut
  • WEHT: Evansville, Indiana
  • WGNO: New Orleans, Louisiana
  • WSYR-TV: Syracuse, New York

The full list of Nexstar’s ABC affiliated stations can be found here.

Why Won’t Nexstar Air Jimmy Kimmel Live!?

Like Sinclair, Nexstar pointed to a remark that Kimmel made related to Tyler Robinson, the suspected shooter in Charlie Kirk‘s murder.

“The MAGA Gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said during a September 15, 2025, episode of his late-night show. “In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.”

Shortly thereafter, Nexstar alerted Disney and the public that it would not air Kimmel’s show for the “foreseeable future” and added that it “strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”

Shortly after news broke of Kirk’s death, Kimmel released a formal statement on Instagram, sending his condolences to the Kirk family.

“Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human?” Kimmel wrote in a message on Instagram. “On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”

“You’re disgusting – these are my work clothes!” HBO Max has revealed the first official trailer for a kooky comedy series called The Chair Company, co-created by the comedy writers Tim Robinson & Zach Kanin (both worked for “SNL” for years). So this sees to be the spiritual sequel to the hilarious Friendship movie from earlier this year? The series stars Tim Robinson as a man who investigates a far-reaching conspiracy after an embarrassing workplace incident. The main cast includes Lake Bell, Sophia Lillis, Will Price, Joseph Tudisco, & Lou Diamond Phillips. With episodes directed by Andrew DeYoung, director of the film Friendship. So what did he discover? They don’t reveal in here – would could it be? This reminds me of a Charlie Kaufman comedy, it has very similar vibes to Being John Malkovich or even a bit of Boots Riley’s Sorry to Bother You. I hope it gets crazier & crazier as it goes on! Ready to watch and find out later this fall.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for HBO Max’s series The Chair Company, direct from YouTube:

The Chair Company is an 8-episode comedy series created and co-written by actor / comedian Tim Robinson (writer on “Saturday Night Live”, “Detroiters”, “I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson”) and writer Zach Kanin (also from “Saturday Night Live”, “I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson”). Featuring episodes directed by Andrew DeYoung and Aaron Schimberg. Made by Wolfmask, Inc., Zanin Corp, Hyperobject Industries. Executive produced by Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin, Adam McKay and Todd Schulman for HyperObject Industries, plus Andrew DeYoung, and Igor Srubshchik. HBO will debut The Chair Company comedy series streaming on HBO Max starting October 12th, 2025 with new episodes weekly through the end of November. Anyone interested in watching this?
