Decoding The Characters In Ranveer Singh’s Upcoming Movie

The trailer of Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar has taken the internet by storm. Viewers are excited not only for the high-voltage drama but also for the fact that the film draws from true events. The characters look sharp, intense and rooted in real history, which has now become the most significant talking point.

Dhurandhar Movie Real-life Characters

Ranveer Singh portrays a secret agent who appears to be influenced by Major Mohit Sharma, the Ashok Chakra awardee. His complete appearance evokes memories of the officer who operated undercover and ultimately gave his life in a mission in Kuprwara, Jammu and Kashmir. The movie seems to honor his bravery and the dangers he faced daily.

Arjun Rampal steps into the skin of Major Iqbal. His character appears to be inspired by Ilyas Kashmiri, a notorious militant known for his brutal tactics. The raw intensity in Arjun’s scenes matches the fear and power the real figure once commanded.

R. Madhavan plays Ajay Sanyal, an intelligent and sharp-minded officer from the Indian intelligence setup. His look and presence bear a resemblance to Ajit Doval, India’s National Security Advisor, who has played a key role in several major counter-terrorism operations. Madhavan’s strong monologue in the trailer adds more weight to this connection.

Akshaye Khanna portrays Rehman Dakait, a menacing criminal. His role seems inspired by Sardar Abdul Rehman Baloch, a personality from Karachi’s underworld who eventually established his own faction. Akshaye delivers a composed yet intimidating presence that aligns with the real-life model.

Sanjay Dutt portrays SP Chaudhary Aslam with determination, a role based on the officer Chaudhry Aslam Khan. The actual officer was renowned for confronting gangs and militant groups, surviving numerous assassination attempts before being killed in an explosion. Sanjay’s strong, on-screen persona aligns with the essence of the character.
Due to its real-world connections, Dhurandhar has emerged as one of the most discussed movies this year. The plot blends action, sentiment and intense stakes while the cast further enhances its impact.

Dhurandhar will arrive in cinemas on December 5, 2025.

Return to Paradise cast | All the characters in season 2

by jummy84 November 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Return to Paradise spin-off Death in Paradise is back for its second season and once again, Mack and Glenn’s will-they-won’t-they takes centre stage.

In the season 1 finale, the detective overheard her former partner declaring his love for her, which wouldn’t have been remotely complicated had he not just gotten engaged.

“Confronting matters of the heart is Mackenzie’s blind spot – anything intellectually difficult, she storms toward; emotionally, she runs,” said lead Anna Samson.

“Episode 1 deals with how she chooses to respond to it all, with the question of what will happen between her and Glenn hanging over the second series. All I can say is it’s not simple, and it’s far from smooth sailing.”

And we wouldn’t want it any other way.

Tai Hara went on to say that his character is “completely unaware that Mackenzie’s heard him confess his feelings for her, so he’s just trying to move on and follow through on his wedding with Daisy.”

“So when she arrives back the very next day, it’s a whirlwind of emotions for him,” he added. “There’s this relief at the possibility for them to explore their unfinished business, but it also complicates his relationship with Daisy at the same time.

“Season 2 for Glenn is really this pursuit of trying to be a decent guy. He’s trying to do his best to remain loyal to both Mackenzie and Daisy.”

Yikes. Rather you than us, mate.

But who else will be joining them in the brand new episodes? And where have you seen them before?

Read more:

Find out about the Return to Paradise cast below.

Return to Paradise main cast

  • Anna Samson as Mackenzie Clarke
  • Tai Hara as Glenn Strong
  • Lloyd Griffith as Colin Cartwright
  • Catherine McClements as Philomena Strong
  • Celia Ireland as Reggie Rocco
  • Aaron McGrath as Felix Wilkinson
  • Andrea Demetriades as Daisy Dixon

For more information about the characters and where you’ve seen the cast before, read on.

Anna Samson plays Mackenzie Clarke

Anna Samson in Return to Paradise. John Platt

Who is Mackenzie Clarke? A detective inspector with the Metropolitan Police in London who reluctantly returns to her hometown of Dolphin Cove in Australia – where she comes face to face with her ex, who she still has feelings for.

“She battles against community, emotion, love, and friendship – all things that we as human beings need; but she thinks she doesn’t,” said Clarke.

“So that’s where a lot of the drama and comedy comes from – and from her being placed back in the community that she left six years ago in quite extreme circumstances. She left someone at the altar. It’s no small thing to have to return to that, and she brings home with her a great sense of guilt. She’s pushing against all the emotions that being back home brings up – old places, memories, and relationships. She’s trying to push them down, but they have a habit of coming back up, don’t they?”

What else has Anna Samson been in? Most people know her as Mia Anderson in Home and Away.

Tai Hara plays Glenn Strong

Tai Hara as Glenn Strong, waking out the sea, with a crab in his hand, wearing blue trunks, towards Mack

Who is Glenn Strong? He’s a forensic pathologist and Mackenzie’s ex-fiancée. She abandoned him at the alter several years ago, but in the season 1 finale he admitted that he still loves her… to his dog.

“Season 2 for Glenn is all about building up to the wedding and then figuring out how to deal with the fact that Mackenzie hasn’t left town,” said Hara. “It’s an impossible situation, and we see how it plays out over the course of the series.

“Despite Glenn and Daisy being set to marry, there’s still so much left unsaid between him and Mackenzie.”

What else has Tai Hara been in? You probably know him from Home and Away. You might also recognise him from Colin from Accounts.

Lloyd Griffith plays Colin Cartwright

Lloyd Griffith in Return to Paradise, stood by the sea and wearing a suit.

Who is Colin Cartwright? A detective constable who works closely with Mackenzie.

“Colin is the heart of the community,” said Griffith. “He’s a police officer. He’s been in Dolphin Cove for about five years. He loves the community. He loves the sense of togetherness and belonging. I think it’s something that he probably didn’t have back in England.

“They’ve really accepted him here. They love him. He’s got a slightly different accent, but you know, he pulls his sleeves up, literally and metaphorically, and he just gets stuck in.”

What else has Lloyd Griffith been in? He’s best known for Ted Lasso.

Catherine McClements plays Philomena Strong

Catherine McClements as Philomena Strong, stood on a veranda, green trees in the background, wearing a blue police uniform

Who is Philomena Strong? A senior sergeant. She’s also Glenn’s mum and was all set to be Mackenzie’s mother-in-law before she suddenly left.

Samson described the dynamic between Mackenzie and Philomena as “interesting”, adding: “They are two very strong, intelligent women who deeply respect and admire each other, but are at odds because of what Mackenzie has done.”

What else has Catherine McClements been in? Her credits include Rush, Water Rats and Tangle.

Celia Ireland plays Reggie Rocco

Aaron McGrath plays Felix Wilkinson and Celia Ireland plays Reggie Rocco, dressed in their police uniforms stood next to each other

Who is Reggie Rocco? A police volunteer. Griffith described Ireland as “the funniest actor you’ll ever, ever, ever encounter”.

“She’s like the queen of corpse, she’ll just do something,” he added, “and she has this amazing way, like her eyes go when she knows the camera’s not on her.”

What else Celia Ireland has been in? She’s best known for All Saints and Wentworth.

Aaron McGrath plays Felix Wilkinson

Who is Felix Wilkinson? A police constable who is mostly paired with Reggie. He might be the younger one, but it’s Felix who’s often telling reggie to behave.

What else has Aaron McGrath been in? You might recognise him from Glitch, Ready for This, Gold Diggers, Preppers and Back to the Rafters.

Andrea Demetriades plays Daisy Dixon

Anna Samson as DS Mackenzie Clarke, Tai Hara as Glenn Strong and Andrea Demetriades as Daisy Dixon in Return to Paradise. Mackenzie is stood in front of the other two, talking to them. Glenn and Daisy are holding hands.

Who is Daisy Dixon? A bartender at the beach club. Daisy is engaged to Glenn and their wedding is imminent.

“That love triangle between Glenn, Mackenzie and Daisy gets even more complicated,” teased Samson.

What else has Andrea Demetriades been in? She has appeared in Crownies, Janet King and Squinters.

Return to Paradise season 2 guest cast

Episode 1

  • Ardal O’Hanlon (Death in Paradise, Father Ted, My Hero) as DI Jack Mooney – Mack’s boss back in London.
  • Danielle Cormack (Shortland Street, Wentworth Prison) as Asher Svensson – she runs a company called Sharktech, which explores shark research to stop human ageing.
  • Cameron Knight (Blue Bloods) as Brian Chandler – a senior scientist at Sharktech and one of the world’s leading shark experts.
  • Michelle Lim Davidson (The Newsreader, Utopia) as Susie Huen – another Sharktech scientist.
  • Damian Walshe-Howling (Janet King, Last King of the Cross) as Craig Park – head of operations and Asher’s husband.
  • Greg Stone (Neighbours, Fake) as Damo Rocco – Reggie’s ex-husband. He despises Sharktech.
  • Ron Smyck (Spiderhead) as Trevor Bongiovanni – a taxi driver who is friends with Glenn. He hates Mack.

Nobody Wants This Season 2: A deep dive into every character’s wardrobe and how to steal the look

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

If there’s one thing Nobody Wants This Season 2 gets right, apart from the chaos of love, life, and late-night oversharing, it’s the fashion. Every character’s wardrobe feels like an extension of their personality: it is raw, witty, sometimes confused, but always interesting.

Adam Brody and Kristen Bell in the second season of Nobody Wants This.(HT)

From Joanne’s crisp essentials to Morgan’s Gen Z cool and Esther’s unapologetic prints, the show’s outfits mirror its messy, modern, and occasionally existential charm. Let’s decode every character’s style and how you can recreate their vibe without needing a Netflix-level budget.

1. Joanne Williams: The effortlessly put-together minimalist

Nobody Wants This Season 2: A deep dive into every character’s wardrobe(Instagram)
Nobody Wants This Season 2: A deep dive into every character’s wardrobe(Instagram)

Joanne’s wardrobe is basically what you’d get if French-girl chic moved to L.A. and discovered emotional depth. These can include crisp white shirts, structured trousers, neutral turtlenecks, and perfectly worn-in jeans. Everything looks intentional, but never fussy.

Her palette sticks to soft neutrals including beige, black, off-white, with the occasional pop of mustard or butter yellow. It’s quiet confidence, bottled into clothes.

Recreate her look:

Start with tailored basics: clean button-down, high-waist trousers, and a fitted tee. Layer with a cropped leather jacket or a wool blazer. Keep accessories minimal, a chunky watch, small gold hoops, and sneakers.

Style tip:

Joanne’s secret is balance. If the outfit is structured, keep the hair soft. If you’re doing sharp tailoring, add a casual accessory. She’s proof that less really can look like more.

2. Morgan Williams: The cool girl in controlled chaos

Nobody Wants This Season 2: A deep dive into every character’s wardrobe(Instagram)

Morgan’s style is equal parts rebellion and trend forecasting. She’s the younger sister who shops vintage, mixes textures fearlessly, and somehow makes a suede co-ord work with chunky sneakers.

Her wardrobe thrives on contrast, a cropped argyle vest with wide-leg pants, leather shorts with an oversized shearling jacket, or a slinky top paired with track pants. She’s living proof that comfort and confidence can coexist.

Recreate her look:

Raid your wardrobe for something unexpected, that sequin top you never wear? Pair it with slouchy jeans. Try a cropped sweater over a flowy dress. Morgan’s looks are about intuition, not perfection.

Style tip:

Keep one piece bold and the rest chill. The magic lies in mismatching, suede with denim, shimmer with sneakers, leather with fleece. Controlled chaos never looked so cool.

3. Esther Williams: The bold-print mom redefining comfort

Nobody Wants This Season 2: A deep dive into every character’s wardrobe(Instagram)

Esther’s style evolution this season deserves applause. She’s ditched safe neutrals for playful prints, cosy knits, and denim that means business. Picture leopard-print cardigans, patterned scarves, and those easy slide-on shoes that somehow still look chic.

Her clothes reflect a woman rediscovering herself, comfortable, expressive, and quietly rebellious.

Recreate her look:

Mix a bold print with your most lived-in jeans or linen trousers. Add gold hoops or a bold lip to make it feel deliberate. Esther’s style is proof that “comfortable” doesn’t have to mean “boring.”

Style tip:

Balance boldness with basics. If your cardigan is loud, keep the rest muted. And don’t be afraid to experiment because the best looks often come from not overthinking it.

4. Sasha Williams: The laid-back hubby

Nobody Wants This Season 2: A deep dive into every character’s wardrobe(Instagram)

Sasha’s style is what happens when a tech nerd discovers good tailoring. It is quietly impressive, unintentionally cool, and endearingly awkward in the best way. His wardrobe this season leans into warm layers, knitted vests, soft shirts, and corduroy trousers, the kind that make you want to discuss documentaries over coffee. It is old-school academic meets modern-day understated chic.

Recreate his look:

Start with earthy tones such as rust, oatmeal, olive, navy. Go for textured fabrics: wool vests, cord pants, or flannel shirts layered under a casual blazer. Add clear-frame glasses or a knitted beanie for that signature Sasha sincerity.

Style tip:

It’s all about proportions. Since Sasha’s tall, his style balances length with softness, these include loose cardigans instead of stiff jackets, or wide-leg trousers instead of skinny fits.

5. Noah Roklov: The modern traditionalist

Nobody Wants This Season 2: A deep dive into every character’s wardrobe(Pinterest)

Noah’s wardrobe is all about quiet restraint, an understated blend of modern tailoring and modest classics. Expect well-fitted sweaters, clean shirts, and structured jackets that lean more intellectual than influencer.

He’s the guy who makes minimalism feel soulful; his outfits don’t need flash because the fit and simplicity do the talking.

Recreate his look:

Stick to classic shades such as navy, grey, camel and invest in high-quality basics like a merino wool sweater or a good overcoat. Keep it simple but intentional.

Style tip:

If you’re wearing muted tones, play with layering, a shirt under a sweater, a structured coat over a casual top. It adds depth without needing colour.

6. Andy: The polished professional with a soft edge

Nobody Wants This Season 2: A deep dive into every character’s wardrobe(Instagram)
Nobody Wants This Season 2: A deep dive into every character’s wardrobe(Instagram)

Andy’s look blends crisp tailoring with warmth, literally and emotionally. His wardrobe revolves around well-cut shirts, muted suits, and subtle details that soften the sharpness, like rolled sleeves or a relaxed collar.

He’s practical but not plain, professional but approachable, a reminder that personal style doesn’t have to mean loud dressing.

Recreate his look:

Pair neutral shirts (white, sand, grey) with tailored trousers or chinos. Add texture through accessories such as a wool scarf, leather loafers, or even a knit tie.

Style tip:

Andy’s formula? Keep it simple, then break it slightly. Button-down, yes but maybe with sleeves rolled and the top button open. Effortless sophistication.

The wardrobes in Nobody Wants This Season 2 tell stories. Each outfit is a mood board of emotion, evolution, and identity. So, the next time you’re stuck in a style rut, take a cue from this cast. Dress like Joanne when you need structure, Morgan when you want fun, Esther when you crave boldness, Sasha when you want laidback confidence, Noah for quiet power, and Andy for easy charm.

“Married to Medicine” Alum Lateasha Lunceford Weighs In On “RHOP” Star Wendy Osefo’s Arrest & Fraud Charges: These Bravo Characters, They re Not Really Living That Lifestyle’

#WendyOsefo seems to be the topic of discussion among Bravo ladies, both current and former.

During a recent livestream, Married to Medicine alum Lateasha “Sweet Tea” Lunceford addressed allegations that she made shady remarks about Wendy following news of the political commentator’s arrest. If you’ve been keeping up with #TJB posts, you know that Wendy and her husband, #EddieOsefo, face nearly 20 charges each for an alleged insurance fraud scheme.

Speaking on the matter, Sweet Tea said she wouldn’t call this “vindication” for Nneka Ihim, who feuded with Wendy during her brief run as a #Housewife, but noted that “people have to be careful when they boast and brag about what they have.” She continued, saying a lot of #Bravo stars are “not really living that lifestyle.”

Sweet Tea added that she kept her real job while filming #M2M and was unbothered by criticism concerning her living situation because she’s “winning” and “has no bills to pay.”

Do you agree with #LateashaLunceford?

All Creatures says goodbye (for now) to two long-running characters

by jummy84 October 17, 2025
written by jummy84

The theme of All Creatures Great and Small season 6 has undoubtedly been transition.

From adjusting to life in the aftermath of the war – which has been particularly challenging for Tristan – to a Skeldale House in turmoil following Mrs Hall’s multi-year absence, from Helen and James becoming parents for the second time to embracing game-changing veterinary advancements, all of the characters have been forced to stay nimble over the past few years.

And now, Jenny Alderson is officially flying the nest – an especially emotional development for her dad Richard and for Helen, who essentially became her surrogate mum after theirs died.

In the latest episode, Jenny received the letter she’d been waiting for: a place at nursing college in London – news met with elation by Helen, who gave her a big hug while their dad looked on.

Of course, Richard was proud of his daughter, but he was also worried about his youngest heading off into the world for the first time – and to the Big Smoke, of all places.

His panic then rose further when he learned that Jenny’s registration date was in just three weeks’ time. But again, Helen remained positive and level-headed as she set about making a list to ensure Jenny would have everything she needed.

That composure didn’t last long, though. Helen’s demeanour soon shifted when she was confronted with the possibility that Jenny might not return to Yorkshire after completing her time at college, instead choosing to stay in London or move elsewhere. And before long, doubts crept in, with Helen arriving at the conclusion that her sister wasn’t at all prepared.

“She’s not ready, not one bit of it,” she confided in James, a solemn expression splashed across her face.

But after another conversation with her husband – in which he made the very astute point that no one can ever be truly ready to leave home, but that it can lead to the greatest adventure of one’s life – Helen gradually came around to the idea.

And after watching a very impressive display from Jenny with the horses, it was soon Helen convincing her sister, who had started to fret herself, that she had to take this opportunity.

“I don’t know anything about London, I don’t know where anything is, I don’t know anyone,” she said.

“Well, that’s what adventures are for, isn’t it? Discovering all them things,” replied Helen.

Imogen Clawson as Jenny Alderson. 5

Speaking ahead of the season premiere, Rachel Shenton described Helen and Jenny’s arc in the show’s sixth chapter as “another wave of change”.

“We’ve seen the signs – Jenny wondering what else is out there, talking about cities and new experiences,” she added.

“With Doris arriving last season, her head was turned a bit, and she started thinking about what else is out there. So Helen’s always quietly known that moment might come.

“But I don’t think she copes as well as she thought she would. It makes Helen look at her own life – the things she didn’t do, the opportunities she maybe didn’t have.

“That time’s passed for her now, with two children. So it’s a bittersweet moment, but also a lovely evolution in their relationship.”

Read more:

And in a lovely turn of events, Helen will also get to enjoy a new experience of her own when accompanying Jenny to London to help her settle in – a Richard Alderson suggestion.

After initially thinking she couldn’t, Helen agreed to join her sister for a few weeks, following some gentle encouragement from James, who must now step up in his wife’s absence.

“There was definitely a little Rachel-shaped hole on set during this series,” said Nicholas Ralph of working without Shenton, who had gone on maternity leave.

“We all really missed her – but of course, she had far more important things going on than we did

“And it was the same for James, really. Helen is his other half, his missing piece. She supports him, guides him, pushes him when he needs it. She’s a real rock for James, just as he is for her.

“So that separation was felt both onscreen and off. James really feels it, and we, as a company of actors, felt it too. We missed her hugely.”

The Woman in Cabin 10 star reacts to character’s “bittersweet” ending

by jummy84 October 11, 2025
written by jummy84

The film follows Lo (Keira Knightley), a journalist who is covering on a maiden voyage of a luxury yacht. Early on, she believes she sees someone thrown overboard – but her concerns are brushed off given that every member of the crew and the guests are all accounted for.

The suspected murder mystery (which has all the trappings of an Agatha Christie work) also sees Lo reunited with her ex-boyfriend, Ben (David Ajala).

Ben is a photographer, there to capture the splendour of the trip, and initially sits on the fence about helping Lo follow her “journalist instincts” due to her lack of evidence. But one of the most shocking moments comes when he finally picks a side, which has deadly consequences for him.

“I think it was a wonderfully surprising moment to read,” Ajala explained to RadioTimes.com in an exclusive interview.

“Because without judging the character, I was very taken by how this guy became the sacrificial lamb for this lady. I love seeing when characters are revealed in their actions and that was such a massive thing to do.”

He added: “I don’t think Ben weighed up the weight of the sacrifice as he was in it, but he made a decision to do it and commit to it for Lo. [It happens so quickly] so you don’t have time to process, but you see the conviction that he has to go, ‘I’m doing this for the better good.’ But then it is bittersweet because there’s nothing heroic about it because he doesn’t win.”

Ajala’s co-star Guy Pearce, who plays the billionaire philanthropist Richard, added: “You’re going to get so many more fans after this… But our audience then within the translation of it, they then get to feel the loss of you.”

Guy Pearce as Richard Bullmer in The Woman in Cabin 10. Parisa Taghizadeh/Netflix

Ajala was interested to explore a character who “operates in a very grey area” who is both with the wealthy, but disconnected from their world at the same time.

Meanwhile, Pearce was “fascinated” by Richard as a billionaire who carries a “number of secrets” but has a “relaxed way” about him.

“The idea of greed and this idea of once you have money, then you want more and you don’t want to let go of what you’ve got, and it corrupts your sense of compassion and empathy etc, that stuff I’m interested in,” Pearce explained. “And I’m interested in playing a character like this who perhaps once upon a time was a more empathetic and thoughtful and considerate human being.

“But in the nature of where he’s got to at this point in his life, he’s grabbed onto something that’s seemingly working for [him] and he doesn’t want to let that go. I feel like I see that a lot.

“That’s why the world is the way that it is, that greedy people just get greedier and richer people just get richer, the imbalance of that is fascinating to me and it was interesting to play a character that embodies that.”

The Woman in Cabin 10 is now streaming on Netflix. Sign up for Netflix from £5.99 a month. Netflix is also available on Sky Glass and Virgin Media Stream.

Why Do We Get So Attached To Fictional Characters?

Why Do We Get So Attached To Fictional Characters?

by jummy84 September 26, 2025
written by jummy84

The Summer I Turned Pretty (TSITP) fever has swept across the world, and viewers of all ages are incredibly invested in Jenny Han’s YA drama. There’s something about a combination of dreamy summer Cousins Beach and extreme teenage angst that becomes irresistible. But why do fictional characters draw us in so much? For some people, they may not understand why fans get to the point where they’re fighting over pomegranate margaritas about whether Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah is the right choice for Belly.

Carly Dober, principal psychologist at Enriching Lives Psychology, tells Refinery29 Australia that teenage stories can evoke emotions that we love to cling to. “Most people can clearly recall their teenage years where the highs were very high and the lows were very low due to the hormonal peaks and troughs of adolescence and early adulthood,” Dober says. “It also makes us feel nostalgic for when things felt easier, as for some, retrospectively, their lives became far more complex in their adult years.”

The love triangle and heavily character-driven plot of The Summer I Turned Pretty also prove addictive, as fans drink up the drama and intrigue. “A love triangle [may leave] us deeply curious and rooting for particular people. Often, people find that who they are rooting for in the love triangle may change throughout a series,” Dober notes. “People can become heavily invested in characters, their stories, and what this represents to them. Maybe someone has been in the character’s shoes before, and we also align our identities with how we want to be seen, and what traits or behaviours we find permissible.”

We also align our identities wtih how we want to be seen, and what traits or behaviours we find permissible.

Carly Dober, Psychologist

Karen-Dill-Shackleford, PhD, a media psychologist based in Santa Barbara, CA, also says it’s natural to find these characters important. She explains that because storytelling is a way to touch on ideas that are important to us, connecting to a story and its characters is important — and often, we might even feel more empathy for a story than we do for things and people in our daily lives.

Dr. Dill-Shackleford describes our relationships to characters as parasocial relationships, or one-sided relationships that we have with the media that we consume. Even if a character can’t talk back to you or otherwise engage with you, it makes sense that if you get home at night and spend an hour or two (or more, we don’t judge) watching a TV show, you might get really attached to them because they bring you joy or cheer you up after a rough day. And feeling so much affection for these characters could be a sign that you’re capable of a lot of empathy. “You have to engage in a real human way in order to feel that connection,” Dr. Dill-Shackleford says. “That’s probably a sign that you are capable of certain social things that you are willing to let yourself go and really feel something in the story.”

There’s not a lot of hard science out there to explain why some people tend to be incredibly passionate fans while others are more casual (i.e., Westworld Reddit theorists vs. people who prefer to just watch the show and let it unfold), but Debra Kissen, PhD, a member of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, says it might have something to do with how deeply we probe into things in our lives in general.

You have to engage in a real human way in order to feel that connection.

Karen Dill-Shackleford, PhD

“People who have more of a tendency to dive deep into things might have more of a tendency to be specialists and dive deep while others take more of a wide view,” she says. “Part of that would then show up in anything you do — you do it fully and thoroughly.” But even if you’re not the all-or-nothing type, Dr. Dill-Shackleford says that characters are often avatars for us, and we let ourselves feel feelings through them even if we can’t relate to everything they’re going through.

That attachment and parasocial relationship can also happen with celebrities, who, in a way, are arguably fictional characters to us: We know the image they present in public, which may or may not 100% align with who they really are, and we guess at the rest. “[With] someone who you’ve followed over a career or long periods of your life, you do feel like you know them,” Dr. Dill-Shackleford says. “You see them in these intimate situations and they’re probably already a beautiful person because they’re an actor, and they’re compelling.”

And, well, the power of attraction is strong. “You can’t underestimate the fact that these stars are very attractive,” she adds. “Most people, unless you live in Hollywood or something, you don’t see that level of physical attractiveness. Like Chris Hemsworth, he’s like a god. So of course it’s a biological cue to us, we’re supposed to find someone to mate with, and it’s a message to us that this person is really valuable because they’re that attractive.”

So it’s normal to be extremely attached to a fictional character or celebrity, so long as it doesn’t become an obsession that takes over your life. If, say, you spend so long thinking about Chris Hemsworth that you’re not dating anyone else because of that attraction, that’s when it might be unhealthy. For the most part, though, Dr. Dill-Shackleford says that most people probably aren’t obsessed to that degree.

LEAVING

Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews)

Sally Ann Matthews as Jenny Connor in Coronation Street. ITV

When is Jenny Connor leaving? Autumn 2025.

Former Rovers Return landlady Jenny Connor has been confirmed to be written out of the soap later this year.

The actor has played fan-favourite character Jenny Connor (also known as Jenny Bradley) on and off since 1986, and announcing the news on social media, Matthews paid tribute to the show.

She wrote on Instagram: “I was supposed to stay for five months but ended up doing an extra ten years because I loved it so much! It’s time though to play those parts I always hoped I would when I’d ’grown up.’

“Thanks Trafford Wharf Rd for the memories and endless laughter x”

An ITV spokesperson declined to comment further on the news when contacted by Radio Times, but we understand Matthews has now filmed her final scenes as Jenny.

Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank)

When is Billy Mayhew leaving? 2026.

Actor Daniel Brocklebank has been confirmed to be leaving our screens as Billy Mayhew in Coronation Street next year.

The Sun reports that a story-based decision will see Billy Mayhew depart the cobbles not long after losing his husband, Paul Foreman, in a new issues-based storyline in 2026.

Confirming his exit to the paper, Daniel said: “I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life.

“I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not looked forward to going into work.

“I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds.”

RadioTimes.com reached out to ITV for comment.

Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney)

Sue Devaney as Debbie Webster in Coronation Street, looking shocked.

When is Debbie Webster leaving? 2027.

Actress Sue Devaney is being written out of the show as her fan-favourite character Debbie Webster is due to be killed off in a long-running dementia storyline.

Devaney first appeared as 15-year-old Debbie Webster and starred in the role for one year, before returning to the soap in 2019, and has been a main cast member since 2020.

A source told Metro: “It’s one of the show’s biggest storylines of the year, and a real chance for Sue to finally get her time in the spotlight – it will just be devastating for fans that it will effectively be her final storyline.”

They added: “It’s one of many major storylines new boss Kate Brooks has in the bag, and there will not be a dry eye in the house.

“There is no doubt in the Corrie family that she will give the performance of a lifetime and make Debbie’s exit one to remember for years.”

The report also revealed that the character of Debbie was expected to stay in the show beyond 2025 to complete the long-running storyline, so there is plenty of Debbie still to come on-screen.

The storyline has since been confirmed by ITV and actress Sue Devaney, who revealed in June 2025 that she would still be on the soap until 2027.

RETURNING

Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon)

Daisy has since left Weatherfield, but the chances are slim for a Bethany and Daniel reunion…

Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley)

When is Eva Price returning? Autumn 2025.

Actress Catherine Tyldesley is returning to Coronation Street as former Rovers Return barmaid and Leanne Battersby’s half-sister Eva Price later this year.

The Sun initially reported that the actress would begin filming with the soap this summer and will be back on-screen in the autumn.

A source told the paper: “Cath has been away for a while and worked on countless other projects but she really missed Corrie.

“They’ve tried to get her back a few times but the stars have never aligned.

“But when she was approached with the idea for Eva’s return, it was too good of an opportunity to pass up.”

The character of Eva left Weatherfield in 2018 with baby Susie following the tragic suicide of her true love, Aidan Connor, played by Shayne Ward.

The ITV soap later confirmed Eva’s return as the new landlady of the Rovers Return after Carla sells it, and Eva will be accompanied by her new husband and his formidable mother-in-law.

Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks shared: “We are beyond thrilled that Eva is returning as the landlady of the Rovers, with her new blended family in tow.”

JOINING

Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker)

When is Ben Driscoll arriving? Autumn 2025.

When Eva returns to Coronation Street, she will be accompanied by her new husband Ben Driscoll, played by Shameless alum Aaron McCusker.

Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks shared: “The Driscolls do not arrive quietly, so expect big drama, explosive secrets and raucous knees-ups galore.”

She added: “To have actors of Catherine, Aaron and Pauline’s considerable calibre at the beating heart of this family is absolutely wonderful, and we can’t wait for you to get to know and fall in love with them as much as we have already done.

“Strap yourselves in, it’s going to be an exciting and eventful ride.”

Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn)

When is Maggie Driscoll arriving? Autumn 2025.

Father Ted legend and former EastEnders star Pauline McLynn is joining Corrie as Eva’s new mother-in-law, the formidable Maggie Driscoll.

The character is set to be interfering and clearly a mother-in-law from hell for Eva to contend with!

We feel a classic Corrie character in the making here!
