White Stripes Celebrated by Olivia Rodrigo, Iggy Pop at Rock Hall

by jummy84 November 9, 2025
written by jummy84

It’s official: The White Stripes are in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The induction took place on Saturday in Los Angeles, with Jack and Meg White honored for their indelible, decade-long mark on music.

As expected, Meg did not attend the ceremony — she has completely left the music industry and public life in general since the White Stripes broke up in 2011 — but thankfully a handful of artists were on hand to help fill the void left by the essential artist, one of Rolling Stone‘s 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time.

Olivia Rodrigo and Feist teamed up for a rendition of the White Blood Cells classic “We’re Going to Be Friends,” while Twenty One Pilots, themselves a guitar-drums duo like the White Stripes, delivered a rendition of the ultimate stadium rocker “Seven Nation Army.”

The White Stripes were inducted into the Rock Hall by fellow Motor City rock icon Iggy Pop, who took the stage and led the crowd through a chant of “Seven Nation Army.” He held his speech in his hands and joked, “Let me see if I can read this shit.”

Pop described the duo as “a 21st century Adam and Eve, who had started a rock & roll band,” and praised Meg’s drumming ability, saying it was her support that launched “the rocket of racket that was Jack White.”

Next, Jack himself took the podium for his induction speech, thanking “Uncle Iggy.” Standing in a red suit and white tie, he revealed that he’d been talking to Meg about being honored, and that Meg made “punctuation and corrections” to his speech. “I spoke with Meg White the other day; she said she’s very sorry she couldn’t make it tonight, but she’s very grateful for the folks who have supported her throughout all the years, it really means a lot to her tonight,” he said.

Jack thanked the White Stripes’ musical heroes, and also named other iconic duos in pop culture: Leiber and Stoller, Siegel and Shuster, and Abbott and Costello. “I myself have been in a lot of bands that you’ve probably never heard of,” he said. “But for some reason, people especially connected with this one two-piece duo project that I was in called the White Stripes. We don’t know why these things happen, but when they do, it’s the most beautiful thing you can have as an artist or musician when people are responding and sharing with you.”

Editor’s picks

“To young artists, I want to say, get your hands dirty and drop the screens and get out in your garage or your little room and get obsessed,” he added. “Get obsessed with something, get passionate. We all want to share in what you might create.”

Rodrigo, who was born just two months before the White Stripes released Elephant since April 2003, has long praised the group, saying she grew up listening to the album and especially “The Hardest Button to Button.”

“Meg’s drums really shine on that one, and from there I dove into all their other incredible albums and became a massive fan,” Rodrigo told Elle in 2023. “Meg’s drumming and the White Stripes in general [provided] a huge lesson to me on the value of simplicity in music. They taught me that a truly great song doesn’t need to have crazy production or layers of sound. It just needs to move you.”

Accepting the Jane Fonda Humanitarian Award, Curtis opened with a tribute to her fellow screen star, paraphrasing Fonda’s famous line from last year’s SAG Award acceptance speech: “By the way, ‘woke’ just means you give a damn about other people.” Curtis also paid homage to her late mother whose big-hearted efforts inspired her own. “This award is about caring for other people,” Curtis told Vogue. “I grew up watching my friend Dolores [Narr Nemiro], along with my mother and the other ladies of S.H.A.R.E., an organization that raises money for children, perform this big show every year. I wanted to bring Dolores as my date tonight and say thank you to her and the ladies of S.H.A.R.E. My mother would be so happy that Dolores and I are standing here together.”

At the front of the room, comedy tag team Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann were proudly in situ. Their daughter Maude Apatow, fresh from the premiere of her directorial debut Poetic License, was honored with the Max Mara Face of the Future award at the ceremony. “I’m just very grateful to be here,” Apatow told Vogue, in the middle of fan-girling over Jamie Lee Curtis. “I love making movies, I love women, and I love the women that I’ve worked with throughout my career—so I’m happy to be in any room full of women.”

Following dinner, the ceremony incorporated two panels. Crystal Award for Advocacy in TV honorees Mara Brock Akil and Regina King discussed receiving Judy Blume’s blessing to reimagine her young adult novel Forever and retell it as a coming-of-age story of two Black teens.

Crystal Award for Advocacy in Film honorees Tessa Thompson, Dede Gardner, and Gabrielle Nadig also explored the creation of Hedda. “I think what’s most important is for women to communicate, and to be in communal spaces,” Thompson had mused earlier in the night. “But I also think it’s important to make those experiences outside of beautiful honors like this—to be talking to each other, to be advocating for each other. All of the silent work people don’t see photographed, things you don’t dress up for.”

The night didn’t conclude without a suitably hilarious acceptance speech from funnywoman Kristen Wiig. Kaia Gerber, Wiig’s Palm Royale co-star, was on hand to present her with WIF’s inaugural Icon Award. “What a gift to have someone like Kristen show us that devastation and laughter are so closely woven together,” Gerber told the audience.

As guests made their final rounds at the end of the night, the feeling of possibility and positivity permeated the air. In particular, a note from Curtis about her upcoming film, Ella McCay. “The last line of the narration of the movie is telling. ‘There is no opposite word for trauma, but hope comes close.’ And today, I feel hope. I think we all do.”

Halloween 2025: When is Halloween? Why is it celebrated? Know history and significance of spooky festival in US, Canada

Halloween 2025: The spooky season is upon us once again – a time when cobwebs become decor, pumpkins turn into lanterns, and the line between eerie and exciting begins to blur. As October draws to a close, Halloween takes centre stage, bringing with it a mix of ancient folklore, playful fright, and modern-day revelry. From ghostly costumes to glowing jack-o’-lanterns, it’s that one night of the year when the world comes together to celebrate all things mysterious and magical.

Halloween 2025: When is Halloween?

Halloween, the much-anticipated festival of fright and fun, is celebrated every year on October 31. In 2025, it falls on a Friday, promising a weekend filled with costumes, candy, and creative chaos. The date marks the eve of All Saints’ Day, a time once linked to ancient Celtic harvest rituals and beliefs about spirits crossing into the world of the living.

Today, the event is synonymous with carved pumpkins, spooky decor, and late-night revelry – a day when eerie folklore meets modern-day festivities, and everyone gets to embrace their playful, spooky side.

Halloween 2025: Why is it celebrated?

Halloween traces back to ancient Celtic origins and Christian roots, and is noted for its secular traditions. The tradition originated from the Celtic festival of Samhain, which marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter in what is now Ireland, the UK and northern France. The Celts believed that on the eve of Samhain the boundary between the living and the dead became blurred, allowing spirits to roam the earth freely. People lit bonfires and wore disguises to ward off or evade these wandering souls. With the spread of Christianity, the feast of All Saints’ Day (also called All Hallows) was set on November 1, and the evening before became known as All Hallows’ Eve, later shortened to Halloween.

Over the centuries, Halloween evolved into a largely secular celebration involving costumes, parties, jack-o′-lanterns and trick-or-treating – blending folklore, community rituals and fun rather than strictly religious observance. While the original emphasis was on remembrance of the dead and the supernatural, in modern times Halloween is significant as both a cultural event and a celebration of imagination, creativity and social fun.

Halloween 2025: How is Halloween celebrated now?

In today’s world, Halloween has transformed into a global costume party, celebrating creativity and community spirit. People of all ages dress up in imaginative costumes – from spine-chilling ghosts to pop culture icons – and decorate their homes with carved pumpkins, cobwebs and flickering lanterns. The highlight remains trick-or-treating, where children go door to door collecting sweets and chocolates.

Halloween parties, haunted house tours, and themed events keep the festive energy alive, while social media amplifies the spectacle with costume trends and decor ideas. The festival is gaining traction in countries like India and being embraced by the younger crowds, blending Western influences with local flair.

bitchy | Donald Trump celebrated Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension & threatened Fallon, Meyers

The kids don’t know or remember, but Karl Rove largely paved the way for the current state of American politics today. Rove was George W. Bush’s Svengali and senior advisor throughout Bush’s eight years in the White House. This week, MAGA World has apparently gone too far for even Karl Rove. He wrote a Wall Street Journal op-ed arguing that Trump and his people have to stop using Charlie Kirk’s murder as a 21st century Reichstag fire. Per Rove: “Using Charlie’s murder to justify retaliation against political rivals is wrong and dangerous. It will further divide and embitter our country. No good thing will come of it.” When you’ve lost Karl Rove…

Well, Donald Trump doesn’t care about any of that. Yesterday, ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live indefinitely after Trump’s FCC director openly threatened to revoke ABC’s broadcast license if they kept Kimmel on the air. This is all happening because Kimmel questioned MAGA World’s campaign to use Kirk’s death for their own political means. Trump – who is still in the UK on a state visit – shared his thoughts on Kimmel’s suspension.

President Donald Trump is celebrating ABC indefinitely pulling Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!

After ABC indefinitely pulled the show following comments the host made about the death of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk, the president issued a statement on Truth Social. “Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED,” Trump wrote. “Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible.”

Trump also took aim at late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon and Seth Myers in his reaction, writing, “That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT.”

[From People]

That’s what happens when you give an inch to fascists. Once they took down Stephen Colbert, it was the beginning of the end. There are few ways for Kimmel to shimmy out of this mess with his integrity intact, but before those decisions are made, Trump is letting everyone know that he wants the Tonight Show and Seth Meyers’ show taken down too. Jimmy Fallon must be like “what the actual f–k,” because Fallon barely does any politics! Seth has always been a brilliant critic of Trump and Trump World, but I could easily see how NBC would push out Seth to appease these Nazi a–holes.

Trump is, like, Oompa-Loompa-level orange today in England.

Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker says her Doctor celebrated neurodiversity

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Speaking to Doctor Who Magazine, she said: “I don’t think it was a discussion, but it was absolutely there. The Doctor’s response in certain situations felt, to me, so authentically her that it celebrated a neurodiverse character without slapping on a label. It was just ‘the Doctor’.

She added: “So, me? I absolutely was aware. It’s playing it without the label, in a way. Just: the Doctor responds like this. That’s what I loved about it. And that’s why the Doctor is such a brilliant part to play.

“Sometimes we explain certain traits by saying, “This person is neurodiverse, or has ADHD, or is autistic,’ and that can be a positive thing – explaining is not negative. But with the Doctor, it wasn’t about explaining.

Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill star in Doctor Who. BBC

“She has characteristics that potentially, in a human form, would be associated with autism, but the joy is – as you said – it’s not in any way negative, in any way something to be fixed. It’s something to be celebrated. The Doctor is the Doctor. What is so beautiful about playing the Doctor is that there is no conforming.”

Then-showrunner Chris Chibnall added that it was a part of the Doctor that developed over time – and he’s blown away by how much the character means to neurodivergent audiences.

Whittaker made history as the first female Doctor and, following her exit in 2022, returned for Ncuti Gatwa’s final episode, The Reality War, earlier this year.

“REEL WOMEN” celebrated the voices of women in film at the prestigious The Venice Film Festival.

by jummy84 September 10, 2025
written by jummy84

The Venice Film Festival is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious demonstrations of international cinema. Taking place on September 1, 2025 in Venice, Italy, this festival has been a birth place to some of the most celebrated works in film, and is to this day still one of the European “Big Three” festivals (alongside Cannes and Berlin).

The festival draws in the film community from all over the world to its red carpets and screenings each year, platforming emerging filmmakers and talent while also highlighting already established talent in the entertainment industry. It features major world premieres, red carpets with stars, and the esteemed Golden Lion award for the best film. It was held from Wednesday, August 27 to Saturday, September 26 in 2025.

This year, Maria Soccor hosted   at the 82nd Venice Film Festival to put a  spotlight on the amazing women working in the film industry. Maria Soccor is an award-winning actress, producer, director and filmmaker whose work has spanned documentary, narrative, and producing projects with a focus on underrepresented voices. Soccor frequents these international film festivals as a moderator, mentor, and champion of emerging filmmakers. She has been a long-time advocate of inclusivity and gender equality within art spaces, and consistently uses her platform to speak up for and amplify overlooked voices and perspectives. Soccor hosted REEL WOMEN in order to create a space for dialogue, connection and recognition at one of the most influential cultural gatherings for film in the world.

This exclusive, late-night gathering took place at 10:00 PM in the Campari Lounge, which is a stunning bar area and event space in front of Palazzo del Cinema and on the sea, directly across from the iconic red carpet. It was presented by Campari in partnership with Maria Soccor Productions Inc. and Jane Owen Public Relations, an award-winning PR and events firm with over two decades of experience supporting top talents and brands at major international film festivals.  Campari is an iconic red bitter aperitif that is the flagship product of Campari group, which is an Italian company that produces spirits, wines, and non-alcoholic beverages. The evening featured gourmet appetisers and artisanal cocktails (courtesy of Campari) accompanied by elevated canapés and Italian hospitality, and a bar service delivered by Camparino in Galleria: one of the world’s best bars. A DJ and entertainment also brought the energy to this all-night event.

The event united filmmakers, actors, producers, and industry leaders in celebration of female voices and stories in cinema and entertainment. REEL WOMEN offered insightful networking and an elegant tribute spotlighting REEL WOMEN honorees. There were several notable film-industry names who attended this event.

Actor Jared Harris and his wife, Allegra Riggio attended. Harris had his film A House of Dynamite premiere at The Venice Film Festival last week, which generated significant buzz for the political thriller. Film producer Debra Gainor attended the event as well with Producers without Borders. Producer Vicktoria Silmara Turmina of Mindgate Motion Pictures and the founder of The Members Club and Producers Without Borders, Jojo Dye, showed up. The founder of one of the world’s premiere independent film publicity agencies, Jane Owen, made an appearance as well as Ann Hafström of the Creative Lifestyle Agency. Actresses Agatha Levi and Tora Kims, and models Gillian Nation and Tia Goossen attended as well.

“Venice has long been a platform for extraordinary storytelling, and REEL WOMEN was a chance to gather in recognition of the incredible female talent shaping the industry today,” said Maria Soccor.

Soccor’s event underscored the urgency and importance of continuing to champion and uplift diverse storytellers from all backgrounds in front of and behind the camera. This private, invite only event reinforced the commitment of Campari and its partners to supporting creativity, inclusivity, and the next generation of storytellers.

REEL WOMEN remained vibrant into the night, and was constantly buzzing with conversation, collaboration, and the unmistakable energy of the last night of The Venice Film Festival. This event was a great space for women in film to network and to lift up voices in the film industry that aren’t heard or seen as much as others.

Producer and television pioneer Ekta Kapoor continued her long-standing tradition of visiting Mumbai’s iconic Lalbaugcha Raja during Ganesh Chaturthi. Known for her deep devotion to Lord Ganesha, Kapoor not only welcomes Ganpati Bappa into her home each year but also ensures a special darshan at the famed pandal. Sharing glimpses of her visit on Instagram, she captioned her post with heartfelt devotion: “LALBAUG CHA RAJA!!!! Bhappaaaaaaaaa.” The message touched the hearts of fans who generally connect her remarkable journey to her religious background.

Celebrating a Career Milestone
This year’s tour has particular significance as Kapoor celebrates three decades in show business. Over the last 30 years, she has revolutionized Indian television, pioneered the era of daily soaps, and created one of the most powerful production houses in India. Her 30-year odyssey, experienced through imagination and re-invention, continues to inspire countless generations of viewers.

National Award Honour
After her own celebratory festivities, Kapoor had also achieved a career-defining moment herself with her first National Award for co-producing Kathal. The Netflix satire, celebrated for marrying comedy and social commentary, showed her ability to provide support for pathbreaking and socially relevant content in addition to traditional work.

Exciting Line-Up of Projects
Far from slowing down, Kapoor has a massive slate of projects in the works. These include:
VVAN, a mythological extravaganza starring Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia, co-produced with TVF. Bhooth Bangla, Priyadarshan’s horror-comedy starring Akshay Kumar.
A re-launch of old drama Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, bringing back one of Indian television’s most iconic shows to a new generation.

Faith Anchoring Storytelling
For Kapoor, religion and storytelling are inextricably linked. Her yearly round trip to Lalbaugcha Raja is not merely a matter of personal faith but also renewal—a sentiment befitting as she takes the plunge again into another decade of content creation.

Sabrina Carpenter ‘Short n’ Sweet’ Anniversary Celebrated on Instagram

by jummy84 August 24, 2025
written by jummy84

Just before unleashing Man’s Best Friend, Sabrina Carpenter is looking back fondly at Short n’ Sweet, last year’s hit album that spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Short n’ Sweet popped up one year ago, on Aug. 23, 2024, led by the trio of singles “Espresso,” “Please Please Please” and “Taste.”

Carpenter not only earned her first No. 1 with the set, but also her first Grammy, in the pop vocal album category. Short n’ Sweet had the entertainer living life on the road on an arena tour across North America and Europe that resumes this October (perhaps with a set list refresh incorporating tracks from Man’s Best Friend, out Aug. 29).

Man’s Best Friend promo saw a brief interruption Saturday (Aug. 23) when the pop star penned a note on Instagram giving Short n’ Sweet one more minute to shine. There, she also posted a carousel of visual memories from the past year — looking back at on-set moments, photo shoots, live performances, award show wins and more.

“pausing from MBF to say happy one year of Short n’ Sweet,” Carpenter wrote. “one year of kiss marks, camaraderie, and being so f—ing horny.”

“this album is one of my most prized possessions and brought me closer to myself as well as so many beautiful people and places,” said the singer, who in just a week will release her next studio album — her seventh — featuring the Billboard Hot 100-topping lead single “Manchild” among the 12 tracks found on the standard version. (There’s a bonus 13th track expected on a special edition vinyl variant.)

Celebrating Short n’ Sweet in her Instagram post, she added, “Thank you for still listening every single day x thank you for coming to the shows and singing till your lungs give out, thank you for loving these songs and every damn lyric as much as i do! Thank you to all my friends i got to make every song with, every video with, create the live shows with. One of the most fun years I’ve had in my whole life. I’ll never take it for granted!!! Love you all infinitely.”

See the photos Carpenter shared on Instagram. Soon after releasing Man’s Best Friend, she’ll be performing on Sept. 7 at the 2025 VMAs; October brings a new song from her and Taylor Swift, on Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl.
