Sky Nick Cave Novel Series ‘Bunny Munro’ With Matt Smith in LFF Focus

Sky’s six-episode adaptation of the Nick Cave novel The Death of Bunny Munro, starring Doctor Who and House of the Dragon star Matt Smith, was in the BFI London Film Festival (LFF) spotlight on Monday.

Director Isabella Eklöf (Kalak, Holiday, Industry seasons 2 and 3), BAFTA-winning writer Pete Jackson (Somewhere Boy) and producer Ed Macdonald from Clerkenwell Films (Baby Reindeer, The End of the F***ing World) discussed the show during a panel entitled “From Book to Screen: The Death of Bunny Munro,” programmed in collaboration with the Edinburgh TV Festival and hosted by its creative director Rowan Woods.

Rafael Mathé plays the nine-year-old son, Bunny Junior. “Following his wife Libby’s death by suicide, sex addicted, door-to-door beauty product salesman and self-professed lothario Bunny Munro finds himself saddled with a young son and only a loose concept of parenting,” a synopsis for the series reads. “Together with Bunny Junior he embarks on an epic and increasingly out-of-control road trip across southern England as the two struggle to contain their grief in very different ways.”

Monday’s panel covered the optioning of the novel, its adaptation, the choice of director, casting and the visual approach to the story and the creative choices to bring the father-and-son relationship to the screen.

Eklöf was asked about the stylistic influences, sharing: “Ultimately, everything is instinct; everything is finding that angle where you are seeing the magic. But we did have some overarching principles.”

Some of them may be more obvious than others. “We talked about ‘70s cinema — [John] Cassavetes, [David] Lynch is an obvious reference,” she said. “There was a little bit of Natural Born Killers that you talked about for quite more specific reasons,” added Macdonald. “And then we talked about quite a load of different references. I remember Red Rocket came up. We talked about Apocalypse Now.” And he shared with a laugh that he may have even brought up Bad Santa.

Jackson told panel that he knew right away that adapting Cave’s novel would be a challenge. “My first thought was: ‘I’ve no idea how you do it.’ Great trepidation! I mean, there were floating vaginas on the first page. I love the book to bits.”

The writer continued: “I think what Nick does brilliantly and fearlessly is explore his darker impulses and his secret shames and his mad kind of desires. And in the creative team it was incumbent on us for the end result to be the same thing — to shock and to challenge and confront and also connect.”

Macdonald recalled that Cave has said his inspirations for the novel were a biblical text and the feminist SCUM (for: Society for Cutting Up Men) Manifesto.

How did the creative team avoid objectifying women the way Bunny does? Eklöf‘s answer was to objectify him instead. “Yeah, I really, very actively in my career went for the female gaze, because it’s a visual medium, so you cannot avoid to sexualize your characters,” she explained. “It’s intrinsic. Everyone’s gaze has sex in [it], but the way you make it equal is to objectify the men just as much.”

First published in 2009, Bunny Munro is Cave’s second novel after And the Ass Saw the Angel (1989). The singer is best known as the lead vocalist of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

Bunny Munro will premiere on Sky on Nov. 20. Its first two episodes world premiere at LFF on Monday evening.

The Viral Video Of Rajinikanth Clicking Selfies With Fans At Babaji Cave Is Adorable! | Glamsham.com

Superstar Rajinikanth has once again melted hearts—not by a movie this time, but with humility on a recent spiritual pilgrimage to the Himalayas. A video of the actor interacting affectionately with the public and taking selfies en route to the Mahavatar Babaji cave has gone viral, with fans hailing his down-to-earth nature and generous gestures.

Shared by a fan on X (ex-Twitter), the video features Rajinikanth humbly obliging selfie requests and acknowledging fans with humility and warmth. The comment sections are filled to the brim with heart emojis and admiration messages, as fans marvel at the simplicity of the superstar.

This devotional sojourn has taken Rajinikanth away from the limelight and into the peace of nature. Social media is full of photos depicting the actor leading an austere life — in simple white attire, eating off a pattal (disposable leaf plate), and hanging out with intimate friends in serene environments. He also went to Swami Dayananda Ashram in Rishikesh, meditated on the Ganga ghats, and took part in the Ganga Aarti — all further affirming his close spiritual affinity.

On the professional front, Rajinikanth was recently seen in action-thriller Coolie, which released on August 14 and was his 171st as a leading man. Based in the dark realities of Visakhapatnam harbour’s smuggling activities, the movie features Rajinikanth as Devaraj “Deva”, the proprietor of a boarding house, with a shrouded past.

When his friend dies in suspicious circumstances, Deva is drawn into a perilous investigation that reveals a crime syndicate and a chilling family secret — adding depth to the high-octane drama.

Both on and off the screen, Rajinikanth’s influence continues to make its mark — demonstrating that stardom equals humility.

Jessie Cave dropped from Harry Potter fan convention due to OnlyFans account

Jessie Cave has claimed she was barred from a Harry Potter fan convention because of her OnlyFans account.

Jessie Cave was banned form a Harry Potter convention

The 38-year-old actress – who played Lavender Brown in the final three films of the wizarding series – joined the subscription site in March but found it “baffling” to be shunned from the event as a result because she insisted her content on the adults-only platform is not sexual yet actors who have filmed explicit scenes are still welcome.

She wrote on her Substack: “I found out that I didn’t get booked for a Harry Potter convention recently, as I’m now doing OnlyFans.

“They explained it was because it’s a ‘family show and OnlyFans is affiliated with porn.’ This was baffling to me as some actors who do conventions (most actors, actually) have done TV and films in which they’ve done sex scenes and nudity. I’m just playing with my hair!”

While Jessie fears she has been “cancelled” from the Harry Potter fandom, she isn’t too upset because it is a “different time” and she’s ready to hand over the baton to a new generation, including Sienna Moosah, who will play Lavender in the upcoming HBO TV series.

She said: “I am not upset about the prospect of no more Harry Potter conventions.

“There’s going to be a new cast now, and it’s a different time. Plus, I have done conventions for over 15 years and have enough photos and wizard memorabilia.

“Excessively quirky one woman shows with puppets aren’t that lucrative, and some years, the money I got from signing photos of my face was the only real money I made. I am very lucky I got to do them. It’s time to move on and play some new characters.”

The Great Expectations actress – who has four children with partner Alfie Brown – announced in March she was launching a page on OnlyFans which would offer “the best quality hair sounds” and “very sensual stuff.”

But she later stressed that her account was “not a sexual one” on her Before we Break Up Again podcast, noting that although it appeals to those with hair fetishes, “fetish doesn’t necessarily mean sexual.”

“I can’t wait to get to Australia and New Zealand with The Bad Seeds and to bring you our epic Wild God show,” Cave comments in a statement. “It’s been a long time coming, and I’ve missed both Australia and New Zealand very much. It will be a wild and mighty joy.”

The alternative rockers’ setlist will include songs from their 18th and latest studio album Wild God, alongside songs spanning their four-decade career, a statement reads.

Cave has no shortage of classics in his repertoire. In the U.K., his adopted homeland, the band has landed seven top 10 albums, including Wild God, which opened and peaked at No. 5 last year. Cave was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2007.

Produced by Cave and Bad Seeds/Dirty Three collaborator Warren Ellis, and mixed by David Fridmann, Wild God hit No. 66 on the Billboard 200, one of his nine titles to impact the albums chart.

Wild God, released through Cave’s own label Bad Seed, via a new, exclusive worldwide licensing agreement with Play It Again Sam, an imprint of the independent [PIAS] label group, was nominated for a raft of awards, including two Grammy categories (best alternative music album and best alternative music performance), best alternative rock record at the Libera Awards and the 2024 Australian Music Prize.

Before heading Down Under, Cave will complete his pan-European solo jaunt with a string of shows in Germany, Luxembourg and elsewhere.
