Variety Awards Circuit section is the home for all awards news and related content throughout the year, featuring the following: the official predictions for the upcoming Oscars, Emmys, Grammys and Tony Awards ceremonies, curated by Variety chief awards editor Clayton Davis. The prediction pages reflect the current standings in the race and do not reflect personal preferences for any individual contender. As other formal (and informal) polls suggest, competitions are fluid and subject to change based on buzz and events. Predictions are updated every Thursday.

Oscars Commentary (Updated: Oct. 23, 2025): As the early days of the Oscar race continues to heat up, the fall festival circuit continues to spotlight quiet contenders and crowd-pleasers alike. At the Middleburg Film Festival, the Audience Award ended in a second consecutive year of a tie between two awards hopefuls: Focus Features’ “Hamnet,” Chloé Zhao’s intimate adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s novel, and Searchlight’s “Rental Family,” Hikari’s offbeat and emotionally resonant dramedy.

Meanwhile, AFI Fest opened with 20th Century Studios’ “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere,” Scott Cooper’s biopic chronicling the making of Nebraska, which opens nationwide this weekend.

And down south, the SCAD Savannah Film Festival kicks off Saturday with A24’s “Eternity,” a high-concept romance that premiered at Toronto and has its fair share of fans.

Updated predictions are below.

Top 3 projected Oscar nomination leaders (films): “One Battle After Another” and “Sinners” (13); “Hamnet” (11); “Wicked: For Good” (10)

Top 3 projected Oscar nomination leaders (studios): Warner Bros. (28); Netflix (16); Focus Features and Neon (15)

Bigg Boss 19: Salman Khan returns to Weekend Ka Vaar, tells Mridul: ‘Plus one ki category mein aa rahe ho’

Salman Khan did not hold back while sharing his comments on the performance of Bigg Boss 19 participant Mridul Tiwari.

From contestants to the audience, many eagerly wait for the Weekend Ka Vaar episode of Bigg Boss to see host Salman Khan consider the contestants’ performances. Last week, he was unable to attend because he was busy shooting his upcoming film, and filmmaker Farah Khan came instead. But this week, Salman has returned, as seen in the new teaser shared by the makers.

Mridul Tiwari was one of the contestants who received feedback from Salman Khan during this week’s Weekend Ka Var episode.

Salman calls out Mridul

In the teaser shared by JioHotstar on Instagram, Salman spoke about Mridul and said, “Aap humesha kisi ke chatra chaya mein chal rahe ho! Plus one ke category mein nazar aa rahe ho aap. Kitne followers hai aapke (You are always playing under someone in the house. You seem to have fallen in the plus one category. How many followers do you have)?” Mridul answers that he has 35 million followers.

‘Jab dikhayi nahi de rahe ho…’

Salman adds, “Aap ko aisa lagta hain ki chahe mein kuch bhi karoon ya naa karoon itne vote toh aa hi jayenge. Nahi dega koi. Ab yaha pe jab dikhayi nahi de rahe ho toh ap ke followers waqt aane par definitely haath khada kar denge (You think whether you do something or not, your followers will always vote for you. That will not happen. Let me tell you that now that you are not visible then when time comes your followers will also take a backseat)!”

The reality show kicked off on 24 August with a new theme of “Gharwalon Ki Sarkaar” (Government of the Housemates). The theme states that the house will be run by the contestants’ decisions and that Bigg Boss will not interfere in the matter. This week, Abhishek Bajaj, Ashnoor Kaur, Nehal Chudasama and Pranit More have been nominated for eviction.

The show streams every day at 9 PM on JioCinema and airs at 10:30 PM on Colors TV.

Why Is ‘The Bear’ Considered a Comedy? Its Emmys Category Explained – Hollywood Life

The Bear has invited countless viewers into the world of running a restaurant. For better or worse, each character of the show goes through their own emotional rides in their personal and work lives. So, why would such a dramatic series be considered a comedy at the Emmy Awards and other awards shows?

Hollywood Life breaks down the reason behind The Bear’s category, below.

Why Is ‘The Bear’ Considered a Comedy?

The show encompasses a wide variety of categories, as it’s widely considered to be a psychological comedy-drama. However, the show focuses on dark humor. Even with difficult topics such as mental health, breakups, abusive bosses, and more dramatic situations, The Bear implements enough dark humor to elicit some uncomfortable laughs out of its audience.

Take the season 1 finale, for example. Viewers have wondered how on earth that wild — and aggressive — scene could be considered funny. Ayo Edebiri‘s Sydney stabs Ebon Moss-Bachrach‘s Richie with a kitchen knife, and they get into a tense altercation. Meanwhile, Jeremy Allen White‘s Carmy screams over the cacophony of kitchen chaos while struggling to hold down the fort. Then, to make matters worse, Sydney quits.

By seasons 2 and 3, viewers have more backstories to unpack, from Carmy’s trauma to Sydney’s anxiety. However, the show manages to inject enough sarcasm, wit and irony to make it funny.

After fans watched Carmy unknowingly break his girlfriend Claire’s heart, the aftermath still has its humorous moments. Toward the end of season 3, Carmy is asked whether or not he thinks about Claire anymore, to which he nonchalantly responds that he thinks of her every day.

Come season 4 is even more drama! Between Carmy and Claire’s argument to his mother’s admission of abuse, viewers learned how much pain he’s been living with.

Who Is in ‘The Bear’ Cast?

Apart from Ayo, Jeremy and Ebon, the rest of The Bear cast includes Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Abby Elliot, Matty Matheson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Edwin Lee Gibson, Oliver Platt. Molly Gordon and several others.
