Fans react to Tyler, the Creator, Doja Cat, Janelle Monáe, and Killer Mike’s Outkast tribute – and André 3000 not performing

Performances from Tyler, the Creator, Doja Cat, Janelle Monáe, and Killer Mike for last night’s OutKast tribute at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have drawn mixed reactions.

Back in April, it was announced that the hip-hop duo were set to be inducted alongside names including The White Stripes, Cyndi Lauper and Soundgarden. At last night’s (November 8) ceremony, André 3000 and Big Boi were introduced by Donald Glover, who lauded them for their part in creating a “music Mecca” in Atlanta.

Despite being in attendance at the ceremony, André 3000 didn’t perform. Instead, Doja Cat, Killer Mike, J.I.D., Tyler, the Creator, and Janelle Monáe joined Big Boi for a medley of the duo’s classic hits, which has proved divisive on social media.

The performance kicked off with ‘ATLiens’ with Big Boi joined by J.I.D. This was followed by Doja taking on ‘Ms. Jackson’, however, as many X/Twitters users have pointed out, she appeared to lose her thread halfway through the song and miss lyrics.

“Absolutely disrespectful to show up to someone’s tribute and not know their verse,” one viewer wrote. Many seemed to be in agreement, saying Doja had “messed up the best part”.

However, some leapt to her defence, instead blaming the DJ. “Whoever that DJ is who has the nerve to be rapping super loud and the wrong fucking lyrics at that… he completely ruined a legendary moment,” added one user. “So,” asked another, “did she not know the words, or was he just rapping over her?”

While Tyler’s rendition of ‘B.O.B.’ went down well, Monáe’s take on ‘Hey Ya’ – in particular her choice to take on a strange vocal affectation and crawl across the floor. One highly unimpressed viewer later took to social media to write: “Put Janelle Monae in jail for what she did to Hey Ya.”

The medley continued on with ‘The Way You Move’ featuring Sleepy Brown, and closed out with Killer Mike joining all other artists on stage for ‘The Whole World’. You can check out more social media reactions to the tribute performances below.

I wish Andre 3000 was in the mental space to want to perform at the rock and roll hall of fame, but if he wasn’t then I’m glad he didn’t. The night is about celebrating the legendary duo, not for them to perform in their 50s for OUR entertainment. I hope he’s enjoying his flute.

Kinda bummed that Andre 3000 didn’t perform with Big Boi while getting inducted in the Rock N Roll HOF

OutKast deserved better. We all deserved better. And that’s no slight on Doja but there was no coordination https://t.co/HqXlQE3rw2

Put Janelle Monae in jail for what she did to Hey Ya

— Ags (@loganags24) November 9, 2025

Nah they played Outkast with their tribute performance. Doja Cat and Janelle Monae were trash. Everybody else was good though. #RockHall2025

— Julian (@Ju_JustGetsIt) November 9, 2025

i wanna think that whoever else on the mic with her threw her off bc his mic damn near louder than hers but knowing doja… she could very well be up there with no idea of what that man says during that verse smh lol

— That Guy (@KendrickDuh) November 9, 2025

In fairness to her, I think the backup rapper coming in louder than her and also beefing the first line of that verse just completely threw her off 😂

— Joel Nixon (@GoodMorningJoel) November 9, 2025

Shoulda had Tyler the Creator do the whole thing. He had the energy it deserved.

— Marcie Jill (@marciemeow) November 9, 2025

who thought this was a good idea in the 1st place?

— ART VANDELAY © (@mr_artvandely) November 9, 2025

Doja cat performance was terrible… so was Janelle monae… they couldn’t find nobody else???? #Outkast #HallofFame pic.twitter.com/5dOYJtujsl

— 🫶🏽 (@HoneyJaxx_) November 9, 2025

Tyler performed a way harder song and didn’t choke as bad as Doja

That was pathetic

— Snacktar Donutsk 🍩 (@KennySloth253) November 9, 2025

Meanwhile, last December, André 3000 said that OutKast were “further away” from making new music together “than we’ve ever been”.

“I’ll say maybe 10, 15 years ago, in my mind, I thought an OutKast album would happen,” he said. “I don’t know the future, but I can say that we’re further away from it than we’ve ever been.”

“It’s hard for me to make a rap, period, you know? And sometimes I’m in the belief of, ‘Let things be’”, he told Rolling Stone.

He continued: “[OutKast] was a great time in life, and our chemistry was at a certain place that was undeniable,” he said, brushing against the notion that “something has to last forever”.

In May this year, he released a surprise solo EP ‘7 Piano Sketches’, a series of improvisations on piano mostly recorded at a house in Texas.

Cat Power Revisits ‘The Greatest’ With New EP

by jummy84 November 5, 2025
written by jummy84

Cat Power is honoring the impending 20th birthday of her beloved album The Greatest with a three-song EP, Redux, which will arrive Jan. 23 digitally and on 10-inch vinyl from Domino. The lead track is a newly recorded cover of James Brown’s “Try Me” featuring the Dirty Delta Blues band from the original tour in support of The Greatest.

Those musicians include Jon Spencer Blues Explosion guitarist Judah Bauer, Delta 72 keyboardist Gregg Foreman, bassist Erik Paparozzi and Dirty Three drummer Jim White. They re-teamed for the Redux sessions with Cat Power’s Chan Marshall at Church House Studios in Austin, Texas, and were joined by The Greatest producer/engineer Stuart Sikes.

The EP is rounded out by a cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” in tribute to legendary late soul guitarist and The Greatest contributor Teenie Hodges, plus an updated take on album track “Could We” that more resembles how it was performed on the supporting tour.

“Marshall once suggested that her sad songs might be seen as triumphant for how their acceptance of sorrow could create strength,” SPIN wrote in its contemporaneous review of The Greatest. “That’s the definition of soul music. Her title track might refer to a boxer (a city? a nation? a singer?) who ‘wanted to be the greatest’ until ‘the rush of the flood’ changed everything. Read it as literally as you like. Either way, the point is that there can be honor in owning up to your failures, your shame. In present-day America, that’s a radical concept.”

Marshall will perform The Greatest in its entirety on an extensive 2006 tour, which begins Feb. 12 in Houston. Presale tickets will be available this week.

‘Toto the Ninja Cat’ Stage Musical Adaptation Set for Spring 2026

by jummy84 October 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Dermot O’Leary’s bestselling children’s book series is leaping from page to stage in a new family production featuring puppetry and original songs.

Little Angel Theatre, Mercury Theatre Colchester and Mayflower Southampton have unveiled the world premiere stage adaptation of “Toto the Ninja Cat and the Great Snake Escape,” based on the popular children’s book by broadcaster Dermot O’Leary and illustrated by Nick East, published by Hachette Children’s Group.

The “Toto the Ninja Cat” series, based on O’Leary’s real-life pets, has sold more than half a million copies globally and been translated into 17 languages.

The story follows Toto, an almost completely blind cat with incredible ninja skills, who must use her courage and cunning to stop a deadly King Cobra that has escaped onto the streets of London, alongside her cheeky brother Silver.

The stage rights were acquired from Hachette Children’s Group in a deal negotiated between Sarah Lennon Galavan, head of licensing for Hachette Children’s Group, and Samantha Lane, artistic director of Little Angel Theatre, and Natasha Rickman, artistic director of Mercury Theatre.

The production will be adapted and directed by Lane, with music and lyrics by Barb Jungr. The duo previously collaborated on “The Smartest Giant in Town,” which received an Olivier nomination for Best Family Show in 2023.

Set, costume and puppet design will be by Little Angel associate director Oliver Hyman, who recently won a special Fringe Theatre Award for exceptional services to puppetry. Lighting design is by Sherry Coenen.

O’Leary, who currently co-presents ITV’s “This Morning” on Fridays, is best known for hosting “The X Factor” from 2007 to 2018. He also presents BBC Radio 2’s Saturday morning breakfast show.

“I’m over the moon to see my book brought to life through puppetry,” said O’Leary. “Toto is currently fast asleep, blissfully unaware of all the attention, but speaking on her behalf, she’ll be thrilled to bits that her adventures are about to come to life, in theatres to audiences all around the country.”

Lane and Jungr added: “It’s such a joyful, funny, and heartwarming story, and we can’t wait to bring Toto’s world, full of courage, friendship, and adventure, to life on stage. Led by a stellar creative team, the production promises brilliant songs, imaginative puppetry, and an abundance of surprises for audiences of all ages.”

The musical will open at Mercury Theatre Colchester April 2-18, 2026, followed by runs at Little Angel Theatre London (May 16-July 19) and Mayflower Studios (July 23-26). Additional tour stops include Bristol Redgrave (July 28-30), Birmingham Town Hall (Aug. 15-16), Weymouth Pavilion (Aug. 18-19), Guildford Yvonne Arnaud (Aug. 20-23) and Capital Theatres (Oct. 23-25), with further dates to be announced.

Cat Stevens says he inspired Carly Simon’s classic You’re So Vain

Cat Stevens claims that he was one of the inspirations behind Carly Simon’s song You’re So Vain.

Cat Stevens claims to be the inspiration behind Carly Simon’s song You’re So Vain

The Matthew and Son singer had a passionate affair with the Nobody Does It Better artist during the early 1970s and knew that Carly’s track about a self-absorbed lover – the identity of whom has long been speculated – was about him.

Writing in his new memoir Cat on the Road to Findout, the 77-year-old musician said: “I never understood the endless hide-and-seek of finding out who You’re So Vain was about. Naturally, I knew it was about me!”

Cat added: “The affair enriched both our repertoires.”

Carly, 82, previously confirmed that the second verse of the 1972 song is about the Hollywood actor Warren Beatty but has never revealed the inspiration behind the rest of the song.

She told People magazine in 2015: “I have confirmed the second verse is Warren.

“Warren thinks the whole song was about him!”

The Coming Around Again artist suggested that she was unlikely to reveal the identity of the other men mentioned in the song.

Carly said: “I don’t think so, at least until they know it’s about them.”

The singer admitted that she is astonished that interest in who You’re So Vain is about has persisted for so long.

She said: “Why do they want to know? It’s so crazy!”

Meanwhile, Cat recently described how music was a “calling” for him.

The Wild World artist – who adopted the name Yusuf Islam after converting to Islam in 1977 – told The Sun newspaper: “I felt I had something to offer. I felt that people should get it.

“It wasn’t just a career choice or business decision. It was more than that – it felt like a calling.

“I responded to it and it responded to me. My songs, everything, came so easily. I wrote The First Cut Is The Deepest when I was 17 (in 1965).

“My brother David also had a big hand in it because he was the business head of the family. He was instrumental in getting me contacts.”

Olivia, Elton, Doja Cat Set For Rock Hall Appearances

by jummy84 October 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Without specifying who is doing what, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has revealed the roster of presenters and performers for its 2025 induction ceremony, which will be held Nov. 8 at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater and will be streamed live on Disney+. Among them are Olivia Rodrigo, Elton John, Doja Cat, Missy Elliott, Brandi Carlile and Iggy Pop.

Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Soundgarden and the White Stripes will be enshrined this year. Beyond the core inductions, Salt-N-Pepa and the late Warren Zevon will receive the Musical Influence Award, while hit-making R&B producer Thom Bell and studio musicians Nicky Hopkins and Carol Kaye will be honored with the Musical Excellence Award. The Ahmet Ertegun Award for impactful, non-performing industry professionals will be presented to former Warner Bros. Records president/DreamWorks co-founder Lenny Waronker.

Pundits are speculating that Carlile and Taylor Momsen will handle the late Chris Cornell’s vocals during Soundgarden’s performance segment, while David Letterman is a logical choice to induct his longtime friend Zevon. Atlanta rappers Killer Mike and Sleepy Brown seem like slam dunks to be involved in honoring Outkast, which hasn’t performed live since 2014, while Maxwell could be a perfect interpreter of Bell’s storied catalog.

Also set to appear are Beck, J.I.D., Questlove, RAYE, Teddy Swims and Twenty One Pilots. Additional guests will be announced later, and a highlight special is set to air Jan. 1 on ABC.

Passing through the Rock Hall’s ancestral home of Cleveland? Stop by the museum beginning Oct. 31 to see guitars played by Cornell, Andre 3000’s outfit from Outkast’s “Hey Ya” video and other nominee-specific memorabilia.

Earlier this year, Bad Bunny helped to close out Saturday Night Live’s 50th season as its finale musical guest. The Puerto Rican superstar returned to NBC last weekend to host the show’s Season 51 premiere. He starred in sketches throughout the evening as a sperm donor hopeful, a fan of the Netflix original film KPop Demon Hunters, and the inventor of the Spanish language, and led the SNL cast in a recreation of the ’70s Mexican sitcom El Chavo del Ocho. Joining Bad Bunny was musical guest Doja Cat, who made her Saturday Night Live debut performing “Aaahh Men!” and “Gorgeous” from her new album Vie. Check out those performances and sketches below.

During his opening monologue, Bad Bunny discussed his recent 31-show concert residency in Puerto Rico and the news that he’ll be performing the halftime show at Super Bowl LX this February. He also noted that the evening marked his fourth appearance on Saturday Night Live, joking “I think Marcello [Hernandez] is getting nervous that Lorne has a new favorite Latino.”

Bad Bunny previously hosted SNL in 2023. In November, he’s set to embark an international tour in support of his new album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos. Doja Cat’s Tour Ma Vie World Tour also kicks off that same month.

This week’s episode of Saturday Night Live will be hosted will be hosted by Amy Poehler alongside musical guest Role Model. Then, on October 18, Sabrina Carpenter will pull double duty as host and musical guest for the first time.

Watch Doja Cat Perform ‘Gorgeous,’ ‘Aaahh Men!’ from New Album

written by jummy84

The rapper-songwriter debuts on SNL by performing two singles from her new album, Vie

Doja Cat made her musical guest debut on Saturday Night Live—the season 51 premiere—with performances of a pair of singles from her new album, Vie.

After an introduction from SNL host Bad Bunny, the rapper-songwriter opened with the Jack Antonoff-produced “Aaahh Men!”

On Vie, Doja Cat’s fifth studio album and the follow-up to 2023’s Scarlet, the Los Angeles native “devotes an entire album to the pop and R&B sounds of the Hair Decade, an album full of pastels and neon and mega-cheese sax solos,” as Rolling Stone‘s Rob Sheffield wrote in a review. That was reflected in the set design for “Aaahh Men!” and the attire of the six others on stage, including the two bassists for the bass-centric song.

Trending Stories

Doja Cat’s second performance was of “Gorgeous,” one of the several tracks on Vie that incorporates the saxophone.

Last week, Doja Cat announced her 50-date Tour Ma Vie World Tour, which begins in New Zealand next month. She’ll begin the U.S. leg next October in Detroit, and will wrap up at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Dec. 1.
