What To Know

  • The fall finale of Law & Order: SVU Season 27 sees Captain Olivia Benson and Chief Tynan butting heads over a high-profile kidnapping case.
  • Tensions escalate between Benson and Tynan over handling of the case and squad supervision.
  • The chief’s job offer in 1PP comes up again.

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Law & Order: SVU Season 27 Episode 8 “Showdown.”]

Since the beginning of Law & Order: SVU Season 27, Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) has been dealing with Chief Kathryn Tynan (Noma Dumezweni), first wanting her to take on a position at 1PP overseeing special victims across the boroughs, then putting Detective Jake Griffin (Corey Cott) on the squad and orchestrating Sergeant Amanda Rollins’ (Kelli Giddish) return. So, where does the fall finale leave them?

The two women are at a police conference in Albany when the call about the case — a missing woman, Nikki, and her boyfriend Greg’s story is very suspicious — comes in. They’ve barely checked in, but Tynan has shared about her time as partners with Griffin’s dad. “You know how it is, when it just clicks,” she says. “I do,” Benson says, obviously referring to Stabler. Tynan shares that Griffin’s dad dreamed of him becoming a cop, so she appreciates Benson taking him under her wing, even though she didn’t have a choice. Benson acknowledges that she was hesitant but says that Griffin has potential.

It’s right after Benson returns to the city that Greg’s girlfriend shows up at the precinct … and it’s not Nikki. He keeps insisting that Nikki was taken, his other girlfriend had no idea about her, and an architect Greg briefly hired then fired says that Nikki told him about a stalker. Once they realize Nikki has a smart ring, they track it to Coney Island, then a report comes in of a sighting. Benson is the one to approach Nikki in a deli, and Nikki seems dazed, then collapses in Benson’s arms, visibly distraught.

Benson then gets on Tynan’s bad side when she refuses to leave Nikki in the hospital and let one of her detectives do the initial interview to be by her side for a press conference about the case. And then Benson’s not happy when she sees Tynan’s press conference, during which she repeats it’s an ongoing investigation and adds that they’re investigating all possibilities, including a “Gone Girl” scenario.

The squad’s investigation turns to the stalker Nikki had mentioned, Quentin, whom she’d been on one date with after meeting on an app and who had started to blow up her phone recently; she also thought she saw him outside Greg’s. Detective Terry Bruno (Kevin Kane) begins blaming himself for focusing on Greg, but Benson assures him she’s done the same thing. They do bring in Quentin, and the evidence (and lack of an alibi) seems to point in his direction. But then he claims that Nikki orchestrated her fake-kidnapping, even pointing to what Tynan said in the press conference. It gets worse when ADA Sonny Carisi (Peter Scanavino) gets in Griffin’s face for writing that Greg was their prime suspect in his report — Quentin’s lawyer will be all over that during cross when he’s on the stand.

And Carisi’s right. Dan Olin (Glenn Fleshler) first points out Nikki can’t ID her attacker, then the error rate of a partial print match, and pretty much tears Griffin apart when he’s testifying, specifically bringing up what Tynan said during the conference in response to the “Gone Girl” question. Benson insists that Carisi put her on the stand, that she can handle Olin, to defend her squad, and she does push back every time he tries to get the upper hand. But it’s not enough; the jury comes back deadlocked and the judge declares a mistrial. Carisi makes it clear he’s going to retry the case, and Quentin is remanded.

Back at the precinct, Griffin tries to hand in his transfer papers, but Benson refuses to accept them. “We all did our jobs. Obviously, this is not the outcome we wanted, but it’s not over, not by a long shot. Now, these cases are tough, but we will not stop until Nikki gets justice. Obviously, you’re disappointed, so am I, but I am proud of you,” she tells her squad. As she’s sending them home, however, Tynan walks in, to talk to her alone.

Tynan tells the captain that she held the conference because the police commissioner wanted her to conduct it and she understands chain of command, which Benson doesn’t. As Tynan sees it, Benson doesn’t understand what her job actually is. “My job is to help victims, end of story,” Benson argues. But according to Tynan, it’s to teach and oversee the detectives, so she doesn’t have to defend their shortcomings like she did on the stand. “My team is the best in the department,” Benson says. Tynan doesn’t seem so sure. In fact, “I’m starting to question your supervision.”

The chief once again brings up her offer to come to 1PP. “So you can keep an eye on me?” Benson asks. “So this unit can be led by a captain who understands how to supervise,” Tynan counters. (Ouch!) Benson once again stresses that she’s not interested, but Tynan says it’s not her decision to make. Still, Benson’s not going anywhere without a fight. “Chief, I’ve been here a very long time, and I’ve seen administrators like you come and go. I know how to do my job, and I would like very much for us to work together and do something good for this city, but you don’t need to tell me how to do my job. What you need to do is stay out of my way,” Benson warns. But Tynan gets the last word before she leaves: “That is not how this works.” Uh-oh.

What did you think of the fall finale and that Benson-Tynan confrontation? Let us know in the comments section below.

Captain Sig Hansen Suffers Medical Emergency at Sea

What To Know

  • Season 21 of Deadliest Catch concluded with high drama as Sig Hansen suffered a health emergency at sea after two heart attacks.
  • Jake Anderson overcame crew injuries to meet a massive quota, and moving closer to owning the Titan Explorer outright.
  • Other captains, faced medical emergencies, mechanical failures, and dangerous weather, but managed to overcome challenges.

[Warning: The below contains spoilers for Deadliest Catch Season 21]

There has been a lot of blood, sweat, and tears shed during Season 21 of Deadliest Catch. It all led up to a dramatic one-two punch of episodes during the October 31 double episode finale. Sig Hansen was stressed with an offload bairdi quota deadline coming in four days. He received a call from Jake Anderson, who wasn’t too far off, asking if his former mentor wanted to partner up. Sig initially turned him down. Jake had another idea to boost numbers. He opted to weld and set pairs of pots across the narrow channel in a zig-zag pattern. His hope was to herd the crab in like sheep dogs through baited gear. Sig eventually came back and went with Jake’s herding approach. Sig’s Northwestern went north while Jake’s Titan Explorer went south.

The plan proved fruitful. However, Sig was starting to feel the physical and mental demands of captaining a vessel deep into a season. Feeling especially tired, he called his son-in-law Clark Pederson to the wheelhouse to take over while he went to lay down. Later on a crew member checked on Sig to find him on the floor in his room. It was a dramatic scene that even led to the producer to ask if he needed help. There was vomit spotted nearby. The crew wanted to alert the coast guard, but Sig refused. “I was just dizzy,” Sig explained. “It feels tight on my chest.”

Knowing he had two previous heart attacks, Clark consulted with a cardiology specialist via phone to see what they should do. The medical professional asked him to take his blood pressure and check his pulse. Sig mentioned having shoulder pain. “How fast can you get him medical attention,” the specialist asked. He suggested elevating his legs for increased blood flow and to head to a medical clinic ASAP. They made it back to port. Sig headed off to see a cardiologist and get checked out.

Clark Pederson/Discovery Channel

It was then up to Clark to finish things up with 60,000 pounds of bairdi still to catch. This was the first time he captained by himself. Back on land in Washington, Sig met with the doctor. Sig spoke about what led up to the event including being up for a day-and-a-half and drinking a ton of coffee, in excess of 15-20 cups. Sig admitted he was also still smoking. Arrhythmia increased the risk of having a heart attack. The doctor encouraged him to stop smoking and lay off the caffeine, especially in such a high stressful job. The doctor suggested he may also want to reconsider fishing more. “You’re not doing yourself any favors being on the boat.” Needless to say, Sig had a lot to think about regarding his future. Clark made it back home as the conquering hero. He met the quota, which translated to $52,000 for each deckhand. Sig was proud of his son-in-law and thankful for his efforts. So much he gifted him a new set of wheels. Sig  As for retiring Sig said, “I don’t see that happening. Quite, frankly, I don’t want to.”

Meanwhile, Jake had his own issues aboard the Titan Explorer with a big quota looming. His key deckhand Mac White hurt his knee, but he limped on through until he reached a point he needed to step aside. Jake hoped to get him back in the game as the 40-year veteran was an important member of the team. Mac valiantly made it back on deck to finish the job. Jake met his quota with a mammoth 400,000 pounds of bairdi worth $2.9 million. Now it was just about writing a check and filling out paperwork to own the Titan Explorer outright. His crew received $145,000 each for their efforts.

Keith Colburn

Discovery Channel

In Anchorage, Alaska, Keith Colburn was getting himself checked out at the hospital. His brother Monte held down the fort on The Wizard. There were still 100,000 pounds of crab left to catch. An alarm sounded ,and he lost steering. The plan was to weld piping down below the vessel to operate the steering manually while they work on another motor over the next few hours. The waves were coming in strong as Monte communicated directives of where to steer while the pots were placed.

Keith received good news from the  panel results on his kidneys and back. He may return to work. Back on the boat, Joe, chief engineer, was able to get the steering going again. Then it came back to hauling to finish the season strong. Monte took a break to pick up his brother from the airport. With an offload done, they were getting out there for opilio before the cannery closed. Despite turbulent weather and conditions, their numbers picked up and headed home.

Rick Shelford had a difficult opilio season as well and battled particularly icy conditions. He made a last-ditch effort to make his goal on the Aleutian Lady as he dropped 120 pots in the midst of 20-foot breakers. Rick had to deal with a potentially disastrous leak that put his crab tank and 65,000 pounds of crab worth $425,000 in danger. Luckily, the crew managed to locate the leak and seal it up.

Though it wasn’t smooth sailing when his deckhand Noah got smacked in the face with a steel hook. Rick likened it to getting punched in the face by Mike Tyson. With blood coming out of his mouth, Noah had cracked teeth. Rick had no choice but to head back to the Dutch Harbor for him to get helped by a dentist. Rick headed back on the waters to get the rest of his crab. He finished with 220,000 pounds for his quota, which meant a $55,000 pay day for each hand. Overall a job well done.

Is Season 2 Setting Up a Love Triangle for Morgan, Karadec, and New Captain Nick Wagner?

by jummy84 October 8, 2025

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for High Potential, Season 2 Episode 4, “Behind the Music.”]

High Potential‘s second season is heating up as the latest episode teased a moment of connection for LAPD consultant Morgan Gillory (Kaitlin Olson) and colleague Adam Karadec (Daniel Sunjata). But will the newest addition stir things up?

Steve Howey joined the mix as Captain Nick Wagner in the latest installment, “Behind the Music,” after Selena Soto (Judy Reyes) was passed over for the position he assumed. After Morgan comforted Soto in her office before leaving the department for the night, she headed for the elevator, where Nick made his big introduction.

While Morgan appeared to be immediately suspicious of her fellow elevator rider, there was a flirty tone to the exchange as he informed her that he knew who she was and was looking forward to learning more. Initially, Morgan didn’t realize who he was until he informed her that he had ridden the elevator down to chat, but he had to head back up to the third floor. Of course, high-IQ Morgan put the pieces together then and officially met Captain Nick Wagner.

But we can’t ignore how Karadec continues to connect with Morgan, as their will-they-won’t-they dynamic continues to evolve. As fans saw in the episode, Morgan was rather quiet and contemplative, and Karadec took the moment to identify what was causing her silence, revealing that he knows many different reasons why she gets quiet.

Despite their differences, Karadec’s time to bring this up only magnifies the attention he pays her, even if she doesn’t notice, which is sure to excite fans rooting for potential romance. But will Nick mess up their progress? It’s a little early to tell, but we could see how the show may lead us down that path.

“He’s a bit of a chameleon, and he develops these relationships with each respective character that have their own DNA. And that’s what’s been fun to write to,” showrunner Todd Harthan teased to TV Insider earlier this fall. “So, I think right away when Steve lands in our world, you’re going to start to see these dynamics that he has with each perspective character. And that’s kind of the fun disruption that happens in the bullpen.”

In other words, we’re in for some surprises. Stay tuned to find out what’s in store for Morgan, Nick, Karadec, and more as Season 2 of High Potential continues to unfold, and let us know if you think a love triangle is being set up in the poll.

Why Controversial Captain Greg Wallace Made Dramatic Return to Show

by jummy84 September 27, 2025
written by jummy84

[Warning: The below contains spoilers for Deadliest Catch Season 21]

It’s six weeks into the fishing season on Deadliest Catch, and a controversial figure has made a dramatic return to the show as the pressure is on to deliver. During the September 26 episode, Sig Hansen wasn’t having too much luck in the midst of a very competitive bairdi crab season. The Northwestern was among 33 boats chasing 700,000 pounds of quota. Sig noticed pots in the area belonged to Keith Colburn. Conflicted on his next move, he called on son-in-law Clark Pederson for input.

Sig wanted to take a little peek at how Keith’s pots were doing, but did it go against his moral and ethical fibers? “If you want, I’ll haul it,” Clark offered. Sig responded, “I can’t tell you what to do.” Nice mental move by Sig as he didn’t have to be the one to get his hands dirty. The pot they picked up had 60 crabs, which confirmed the waters were teeming with product. Sig ordered to set off his own gear parallel to Keith’s pots.

Keith’s brother Monte noticed The Northwestern in the vicinity. Keith called Sig, “a sneaky bastard.” The Wizard captain made the decision to go dark on the radar system. “You want a shoving match? Game on,” Keith said. He checked out Sig’s pot the same way. This evolved into a race as the two went head-to-head. That was until The Northwestern hit a snag. In a moment of generosity, Keith offered to help Sig as the vessel had a one-inch thick polyurethane line wrapped around the propeller shaft, Sig depended on Keith to connect the line from the tangle to The Wizard’s hydraulic powered hauler. The strategy worked t. “I owe you on this one,” Sig said to Keith. It then was back to business for crab.

 Rick Shelford

Elsewhere, Rick Shelford and Sophia “Bob” Nielsen were facing rough conditions aboard the Aleutian Lady. The waves came in strong with the two looking to offload, but they needed another 3,000 pounds. That meant a 55 average in their pots. Rick lost power on his controls after cables and monitors were messed up. Sophia’s strategy was to use the GPS on her phone to locate their pots. This meant all was riding on mobile navigation. The string of pots hit double-digits and was enough to make their delivery. The crew ultimately ended up with 90,081 pounds, which translated to more than $2.4 million in king crab. Rick summed it up with, “It don’t get better than that.”

In the Dutch Harbor, Steve “Harley” Davidson was awaiting a new co-captain after he faced a mutinous crew aboard the Confidence. Harley brought Greg Wallace on to lend a hand for the rest of the season in the hope he can help deliver results. Wallace garnered some controversy last season aboard the Seabrooke with how he treated his daughter, deckhand Megan, who suffered a dislocated hip. He acclimated quickly, knowing he and Harley had to hustle to make up for lost time with more than a million dollar quota over their head. Harley noticed something was wrong with his throttle and controls.

“I need eyes in the engine room right now,” Harley demanded. Greg had throttles on his end at least. The crew believed it’s the breaker. The plan was for Greg to operate controls while Harley handles steering. Their hope was their second string of pots would bring them some luck. They received encouraging results with a 57 per pot average. Greg and Harley look to be a good team.

Why Did Captain Cragen Die in ‘SVU’? Dann Florek’s Season 27 Death – Hollywood Life

The season 27 premiere of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit opened with a funeral service for the late Captain Donald Cragen, played by actor Dann Florek. Although Cragen had been off SVU for years, fans were surprised to learn the character had died off screen.

“He was the best boss I ever had,” Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) tells the squad, crediting her late mentor during the episode. “Everything that I know about being a Captain, I learned from him.”

But was Cragen’s death inevitable on the show? Hollywood Life explains what we know so far about how Cragen died in the series.

How Did Captain Cragen Die? Inside His Off-Screen Death

Cragen’s cause of death is not clarified during the season 27 premiere of Law & Order: SVU. His former colleagues gather to honor the late captain at his funeral, where a video from his retirement party is shown.

“I lived for my job,” the captain says in the clip. “I don’t think that surprises anybody. And I can’t imagine my life any other way. … It’s been a long road. It hasn’t always been pleasant, and it certainly hasn’t always been easy. … It has been a privilege to have been able to serve with you.”

Why Did Captain Cragen Leave Law & Order: SVU in Season 15?

The captain retired back in season 15, leaving Detective-turned-Captain Benson (Hargitay) to take the lead.

Florek left the series because his character had to retire, just like real-life New York City cops. The actor remained in the Law & Order franchise, though, appearing in its other spinoff series Organized Crime.

Why Did Captain Cragen Die in Season 27 of SVU?

Since we’re only at the beginning of season 27, not much is known about Cragen’s off-screen death, but Florek did not leave the show for any particular reason other than his character’s retirement.

In January 2024, Florek spoke with People about “passing … the baton” to Hargitay’s Benson on the show.

“It’s a beautiful passing of the baton. I got to do one little scene, I think I shot it on Zoom, and I was able to say to her — I’m gonna cry — ‘You have no idea how proud it makes me to say, ‘Captain,’” Florek recalled. “When I started SVU, a lot of people said, ‘Is there room for two Law & Orders? Well, we made it past that. Then I said, I hope we can make five [years]. Then I made 15 [years] and here we are for 25. It’s crazy but good. Crazy because it should be.”

Who’s Left in the Law & Order: SVU Season 27 Cast?

The main cast of Law & Order: SVU features Hargitay, Ice T, Peter Scanavino, Kelli Giddish, Kevin Kane and Aimé Donna Kelly.
