Amyl and The Sniffers Fund $35k Bar Tabs After Cancellation

Amyl and The Sniffers turned a last-minute cancellation into an unforgettable night for Melbourne’s live-music community on Friday, after their free all-ages show at Federation Square was shut down minutes before they were due to take the stage.

The Aussie rockers, who had been set for a triumphant hometown performance, redirected their entire AU$5,000 performance fee to seven local venues — a gesture that quickly grew into a AU$35,000 bar tab shared across some of the city’s most beloved rooms.

According to ABC Australia, the gig was halted after multiple breaches of the security barrier raised concerns about crowd safety. The Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporation said the decision “wasn’t made lightly,” citing risks to the audience, staff, and the band. Fans watching the livestream were stunned as the plug was pulled just eight minutes before showtime.

Rather than let the night end there, frontwoman Amy Taylor posted a video explaining the cancellation before announcing the band would give the money back to local venues that helped launch their career.

“Have a drink on us,” Taylor said in the video posted to social media over the weekend, which has since clocked more than 1 million views. “Just have some fun tonight.”

Tabs were immediately placed at local haunts The Tote, The Curtin, The Old Bar, Labour in Vain, Hell’s Kitchen, Last Chance Rock & Roll Bar, and Cherry Bar, where fans flocked from across the city after the news spread on social media. Several venues reported packed rooms, lines down the street, and tabs running dry within hours.

The moment arrives during one of the biggest years of the band’s career. Their 2024 album Cartoon Darkness debuted at No. 2 on the ARIA Albums Chart and later landed in the U.K. top 10. It also collected major honors at the 2025 AIR Awards, including Independent Album of the Year and Best Independent Punk Album or EP. The band is up for multiple ARIA Awards this year — including Album of the Year and Best Group — marking a new peak in their national profile.

Their international momentum has accelerated, too. Amyl and The Sniffers earned a Grammy nomination earlier in 2025 and are nominated at the Brit Awards for International Group of the Year. They also joined AC/DC for a run of Australian stadium dates in November, cementing a milestone for a band that cut its teeth in the same small rooms they helped support on Friday night.

Friday’s bar-tab blowout underscored the deep roots Amyl and The Sniffers maintain in Melbourne’s grassroots scene, even as their profile accelerates worldwide. For many fans who raced between venues to claim a drink, the night became an instant chapter in the city’s music mythology — a chaotic, communal celebration born from a disappointment that could have easily overshadowed a landmark homecoming.

FKA Twigs reflects on “catastrophic” North American tour cancellation

by jummy84 October 13, 2025

FKA Twigs has reflected on the “catastrophic” fallout that followed the cancellation of her North American tour earlier this year.

  • READ MORE: FKA Twigs – ‘EUSEXUA’ review: a lust-fuelled insight into what it is to be human

Back in spring, Twigs took to social media to inform fans that a handful of upcoming shows in the United States and Canada were being scrapped due to visa issues, and later revealed that the “ongoing” visa problems meant the remainder of North American dates, including festival sets at Coachella and Axe Ceremonia, would be cancelled.

Reflecting on the situation, the British singer-songwriter recently told The Hollywood Reporter that scrapping the tour was financially “catastrophic” for her business, and marked “one of the most painful times” in her career.

“Just the emotional and physical and financial ramifications that fell on FKA Twigs the business was catastrophic. All I wanted to do was perform in front of my fans – go to Mexico and do Coachella and tour America. The creative on that show was brilliant. We worked so hard on it, and it all slipped through my fingers like sand.”

She went on to explain that the mistakes were not within her control and said she was “kept in the dark” about how bad the situation was because it wasn’t her remit.

“The flights and the visas and the stage advancing, none of it was done. And I don’t know how to do that because it’s not my job. But you know what? I’ve learned a lot,” she added. “Now I know about buses and freighting; how many days it takes to get from New York to Mexico in a truck; how to get through customs.”

After the tour fell through, Twigs went on to house nine of her dancers in her London home as they worked together to rework the show.

“My back was against the wall, and I came out kicking,” she said, adding: “We lived together and danced and trained and brought the show back to life. … I felt like I was weathering a storm and I turned something really horrific into something positive.”

Twigs went on to embark on a tour of Europe and the US between May and August, and is now confirmed to perform at Coachella next year.

Having brought ‘EUSEXUA’ to the capital with two headline shows at Magazine, her set scored a four-star review from NME, who said described it as a “typically artful performance”.

As for the record itself, NME gave ‘EUSEXUA’ a glowing five-star review, writing: “Twigs has successfully shown that the connection of music, movement, mind, soul and body can be converted into sound, weaving these elements into a cohesive and transcendent artistic experience.

The artist and NME Godlike Genius winner first announced the follow-up to her Mercury-nominated 2025 record ‘EUSEXUA’ back in August, with ‘EUSEXUA Afterglow’ set for release on November 14 via Atlantic/Young. You can pre-order/pre-save here.

Jensen Ackles Calls ‘Countdown’ Cancellation a ‘Bummer’

by jummy84 October 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Jensen Ackles is sharing his reaction to the news that Countdown was not renewed at Amazon’s Prime Video for a second season.

The crime thriller debuted its first season in June before wrapping up its 13 episodes in early September following a weekly rollout. The series followed LAPD officer Mark Meachum (played by Ackles), who joins a secret task force to investigate a suspicious murder, but uncovers a sinister plot that requires the team to unite and save millions in the city.

On Friday, Prime Video announced it would not be renewing Countdown, despite it spending a short time on Nielsen’s top 10 U.S. streaming charts over the summer.

Ackles took to his Instagram to share his thoughts, saying, “As some of you may have seen already, Countdown did not get picked up for another season. Amazon’s gonna let it go, and it’s a bummer because I had such an amazing time making that show. Had an absolute blast with the cast and the crew.”

The Supernatural alum went on to express his appreciation for creator Derek Haas and the show’s writers, as well as Amazon “for giving us the opportunity” to make the series.

“Sometimes you can set out to do your best and check all those boxes, and ultimately it’s out of your hands. That’s the way it goes in this industry,” Ackles added before concluding, “That’s the end for Mark Meachum. … But I’m thankful for the experience. We’ll see you down the road on something else, I guess.”

Countdown also starred Jessica Camacho, Eric Dane, Violett Beane, Elliot Knight, Uli Latukefu, Rachel Armstrong and Bogdan Yasinski.

Jensen Ackles Reacts to ‘Countdown’s Cancellation: ‘It’s a Bummer’

by jummy84 October 10, 2025
written by jummy84

Prime Video’s drama Countdown has been canceled after one season, and Jensen Ackles understands your disappointment.

“Well, as some of you may have seen already, Countdown did not get picked up for another season. Amazon’s gonna let it go, and it’s a bummer. I had such a such an amazing time making that show. I had an absolute blast with the cast and the crew,” Ackles said in a video he shared across his social media platforms. “Thank you to Derek [Haas] for making the show and writing those characters. Thanks to Amazon, for giving us the opportunity, especially Vernon Sanders, for being such a champion for that show. But sometimes you can set out to do your best and check all those boxes, and ultimately, it’s out of your hands. That’s the way it goes in this industry.”

He continued, “So, anyway, that’s the end from Mark Meachum and Oliveras and Finau and Bell and Shepherd and Blythe. But I’m thankful for the experience.
I really am, and we’ll see you down the road on something else, I guess. So, have a great weekend.” Watch the video below.

Ackles’ Supernatural costar, Jared Padalecki, commented on the post. “Their loss brother. You were amazing in it. Which is no surprise to ANYBODY,” he wrote. (See a screenshot below.) “I’ll still be re-watching. And I can’t wait to see what you do next.”

Jensen Ackles/Instagram

Meanwhile, Ackles’ costar on The Boys, Jack Quaid, commented, ” Love ya man❤️” and fellow Supernatural alum Rob Benedict wrote, ” Sorry buddy. Onward and upward my man. 💪🏼 ❤️”

Countdown followed a task force comprised of members from various law enforcement agencies. In addition to Jensen Ackles, it starred Eric Dane, Jessica Camacho, Violett Beane, Elliot Knight, and Uli Latukefu. The first season ended on a major cliffhanger, as the sniper they’d been after kidnapped Camacho’s Oliveras.

Ackles told TV Insider after that finale cliffhanger, he expected “Meachum kind of just lose his s**t and go a bit ballistic, which I think will then possibly prove to not just Amber, but also to him, how he holds her.”

Meachum and Oliveras hit a hard pause on their slow burn during the first season. As for where they could have gone in Season 2, “First, she’s got to survive this,” Haas pointed out to us. “After that, I don’t know, I think it could get super hot or it could not.”

Ackles can next be seen in the two-part Tracker premiere, guest starring as the brother of Justin Hartley‘s Colter Shaw. They will be his third and fourth episodes on the CBS drama.

John Cleese and Piers Morgan clash over Jimmy Kimmel cancellation: “You flaming old hypocrite”

by jummy84 September 21, 2025
written by jummy84

John Cleese and Piers Morgan have clashed on social media over the cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the late night talk show had been pulled from the ABC Network, which is owned by Disney, over Kimmel’s comments following the murder of Charlie Kirk.

Right-wing activist Kirk was shot in the neck and killed at Utah Valley University campus on September 10, and, following the incident, Kimmel said that all signs pointed to Kirk’s shooter being a Trump supporter.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterise this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” he said in his Monday night monologue.

The subsequent fallout saw the show taken off-air indefinitely, a move that sparked a strong response from either side of the political spectrum.

Jimmy Kimmel lied about Charlie Kirk’s assassin being MAGA, this caused understandable outrage all over America, prompted TV station owners to say they wouldn’t air him, and he’s now been suspended by his employers. Why is he being heralded as some kind of free speech martyr?

Morgan reacted to the news by posting on X on Tuesday (September 16): “Jimmy Kimmel lied about Charlie Kirk’s assassin being MAGA, this caused understandable outrage all over America, prompted TV station owners to say they wouldn’t air him, and he’s now been suspended by his employers. Why is he being heralded as some kind of free speech martyr?”

US politician Joe Walsh replied to the post, arguing that Morgan had “missed the point”, prompting Monty Python and Fawlty Towers legend Cleese to write: “This from Piers Morgan. Who has made a fortune working for Rupert Murdoch.”

Morgan responded to Cleese by posting: “You took Rupert’s money too, you flaming old hypocrite. I’m just proud of it.”

Hostilities continued on Wednesday, with Cleese writing: “I see Piers Morgan says he’s proud to have worked with Rupert Murdoch, the man who had done more to contaminate Britain’s journalism than anyone else. Tells us all we need to know about Piers, whose only talent is associating himself with people much better known than himself.”

Morgan replied with three laughing emojis, writing: “a) Rupert’s much nicer than you.. even your fellow Pythons loathe you. b) I’m way more famous than you, which is why I have nearly twice as many followers.”

It is now believed that Kimmel’s business and legal representatives are in discussions with Disney and ABC executives in the hope of reaching a compromise that would allow for the return of Jimmy Kimmel Live.

While the move to cancel the show has been celebrated by President Trump, with whom the host has had a long-running feud, many in the entertainment industry have spoken out against the suspension. Almost all of Hollywood’s prominent creative guilds have condemned the decision, while fellow late-night legends Stephen Colbert and David Letterman have also spoken out, voicing concerns over free speech.

Comedian and podcaster Marc Maron also criticised the suspension, saying on Instagram: “This is government censorship. This is the Trump administration coming after people who speak out against him.”

Paul Shaffer Reacts to Late Show Cancellation at CBS

by jummy84 September 7, 2025
written by jummy84

Late Show With David Letterman bandleader Paul Shaffer is just as stunned as viewers are that CBS is canceling The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and the entire Late Show franchise.

“Shocking. Absolutely shocking,” Shaffer said of the decision in a recent Entertainment Weekly interview. “That’s all I can say. I mean, I don’t know what more to say about it. Stephen Colbert was absolutely number one.”

Shaffer was a CBS employee for decades, leading the CBS Orchestra and serving as David Letterman’s sidekick for the host’s entire Late Show run, from 1993 to 2015. Previously, Shaffer filled the same role on Letterman’s NBC show, Late Night With David Letterman, from 1982 to 1993.

And the musician thinks the end of The Late Show might indeed portend the end of late-night talk shows. “I wouldn’t be surprised if those doom-sayers that are saying it signifies the end of the Late Show-type of thing, you know, late night television, it’s over,” he told EW. “People will watch clips on their computers, and it all makes sense to me. I’m glad that I was in and out of there while the getting was good.”

Letterman, for his part, criticized his former network, saying on his YouTube channel that he doesn’t believe CBS’ claims that the decision to cancel the Late Show franchise was purely economic. He said CBS was showing “pure cowardice” following parent company Paramount’s $16 million payment to Donald Trump to settle the president’s lawsuit over CBS’ 60 Minutes.

“I think one day, if not today, the people at CBS who have manipulated and handled this are going to be embarrassed,” Letterman added. “This is gutless.”

Former Late Night host Conan O’Brien said at a Television Academy event last month (per The Hollywood Reporter) that “late night television as we have known it since around 1950 is going to disappear,” but he wasn’t concerned about Colbert. “Those voices are not going anywhere,” he explained. “People like Stephen Colbert are too talented and too essential to go away.”

But Jimmy Kimmel, ABC’s resident late-night host, thinks the post-11-p.m. segment of the television industry will survive. “Network television is declining. There’s no question about that,” he told Variety last month. “The idea that late-night is dead is simply untrue. People just aren’t watching it on network television in the numbers they used to — or live, for that matter. So the advertising model may be dying, but late-night television is the opposite.”
