Who won The Great British Bake Off 2025? Season 16 winner crowned

by jummy84 November 5, 2025
written by jummy84

After 10 weeks of laughter, tears and a few Hollywood handshakes, the winner of The Great British Bake Off 2025 has finally been crowned.

Tonight (4th November), the three finalists Tom, Aaron and Jasmine faced their biggest challenges yet, with pressure at an all-time high and higher stakes than ever before.

The three remaining bakers battled it out in the iconic tent for their final tasks that tested every aspect of their baking prowess.

For the signature challenge, the bakers had to create the classic British iced finger bun, wowing the judges with their flavours and techniques in the process.

Next up was a jaw-dropping tower of French delights in the technical, and for their last ever bake, the finalists were tasked with making the largest cake in Bake Off history!

After much deliberation, Jasmine was crowned the winner of The Great British Bake Off 2025.

Alison Hammond had the pleasure of letting the 23-year-old know she had named the ultimate Star Baker.

During her time on the show, she received two Hollywood handshakes and scored five Star Baker wins, the latter of which makes her the second contestant in Bake Off history to achieve that.

Jasmine said of her win: “Oh my goodness I am just so overjoyed! When I was in the middle of exams and trying to bake while I was trying to learn, it’s been so much. But I have done it and I am just so unbelievably happy and to have done it with such an awesome group of people.

“I want to say to myself that when I don’t think I am going to be able to do something, when I don’t have faith in myself that I should just give it a try. And try and try again. And something great might happen, you never know!”

“The thing about Jasmine is that she has been steady all the way through, almost unheard of to be so consistent and so good. She is an extraordinary girl,” judge Prue Leith said of Jasmine’s triumph.

While Paul Hollywood added: “There was not one week we thought she could go this week… not once. And that’s unusual, and to win 5 Star Bakers and then win overall that’s never happened before.

“She has done an incredible job all the way through the Bake Off this year. She is a worthy winner and she is the best one we have seen for quite a while actually.”

The Great British Bake Off is available to watch on Channel 4 on catch-up.

Bob Vylan hit back at “scare tactic” of British Airways dropping sponsorship of Louis Theroux podcast

by jummy84 October 26, 2025
written by jummy84

Bob Vylan frontman Bobby Vylan has hit back at British Airways after it pulled its Louis Theroux podcast sponsorship.

At this year’s Glastonbury Festival, the punk duo delivered a controversial performance on the West Holts Stage, using their platform to voice their support for the people of Palestine, call out the Israeli military and criticise the BBC, as well as the UK and US governments.

In the most provocative moment of the set, Vylan told the huge crowd, “have you heard this one?”, before leading a chant of “death, death to the IDF”. It led to a criminal investigation from Avon and Somerset Police, as well as the cancellation of multiple international shows and the revocation of their US visas.

Earlier this week, he gave his first in-depth interview on the subject on The Louis Theroux Podcast, in which he said he was “not regretful” of his remarks at Glasto, adding: “I’d do it again tomorrow, twice on Sundays. I’m not regretful of it at all.”

This has since led to British Airways withdrawing its adverts from the podcast, saying that the content breached its sponsorship policy.

Make no mistake, this is a scare tactic. I went on the podcast and as hard as the lobby groups and media tried, they couldn’t twist anything I said. So they have resorted to lobbying for Louis’ sponsorship to be pulled in an attempt to scare others out of giving me a platform. https://t.co/lxmsX0aZlt

Taking to X, earlier today (October 26) Vylan hit back at the move, writing: “Make no mistake, this is a scare tactic. I went on the podcast and as hard as the lobby groups and media tried, they couldn’t twist anything I said. So they have resorted to lobbying for Louis’ sponsorship to be pulled in an attempt to scare others out of giving me a platform.”

In a follow up tweet, he wrote: “They thought they were going to get a dumb angry punk ranting. Instead they got articulate and considered responses to each question with facts to back it up when needed. Their hope to further vilify me couldn’t run, so they target Louis to make an example for sitting with me.

“The lobby groups, the British government and media are determined to make an example of me, all because I dare to want an end to a genocidal occupying force guilty of war crimes.”

Upon removing the sponsorship, a spokesperson for BA said via The Guardian: “Our sponsorship of the series has now been paused and the advert has been removed.”

“We’re grateful that this was brought to our attention, as the content clearly breaches our sponsorship policy in relation to politically sensitive or controversial subject matters,” the statement continued.

“We and our third-party media agency have processes in place to ensure these issues don’t occur and we’re investigating how this happened.”

NME has contacted BA for a response on Bobby Vylan’s latest comments.

In the podcast with Theroux, Vylan said the backlash he had faced was “minimal”, adding: “It’s minimal compared to what people in Palestine are going through. If that can be my contribution and if I can have my Palestinian friends and people that I meet from Palestine that have had to flee, that have lost members in double digits of their family and they can say: ‘Yo, your chant, I love it.’ Or it gave me a breath of fresh air or whatever.”

He also said that he did not want to overstate the importance of the chant. “That’s not what I’m trying to do, but if I have their support, they’re the people that I’m doing it for, they’re the people that I’m being vocal for, then what is there to regret? Oh, because I’ve upset some rightwing politician or some rightwing media?”

Earlier this week, the duo rescheduled their headline shows in Manchester and Leeds “due to political pressure” from MPs and Jewish leaders.

The gigs were originally set to be the first two stops on the London punk-rap duo’s 2025 ‘We Won’t Go Quietly’ UK and Ireland tour. They had been scheduled to perform at Leeds’ O2 Academy on November 4, before heading to Manchester Academy the following night (5).

The duo also recently released their new single, ‘Sick Sad World’, where they called out Prime Minister Keir Starmer and “the BBC’s lies“.

Hermes taps British designer to lead its menswear line

by jummy84 October 21, 2025
written by jummy84

French luxury company Hermes on Tuesday announced that a British designer, Grace Wales Bonner, is taking over its men’s pret-a-porter collection from a predecessor who held the position for nearly four decades.

Hermes taps British designer to lead its menswear line

Wales Bonner, aged in her mid-30s and a graduate of London’s prestigious Central Saint Martins art school, said in a Hermes statement she was overjoyed to be joining “such a magical house”, and called it “a dream”.

Her first collection is due to hit the catwalk in January 2027.

Wales Bonner takes over from French designer Veronique Nichanian, 71, who led the label’s menswear line for the past 37 years.

Hermes on Friday announced Nichanian’s departure, after she presents her last men’s collection in January, for the 2026-2027 Autumn-Winter shows in Paris.

The new blood at Hermes is just the latest in a series of artistic changes at the big fashion houses, notably at Chanel, Dior, Balenciaga, Loewe and Jean Paul Gaultier.

The luxury sector is currently going through a challenging period for sales globally that is impacting many companies, but Hermes has been well-protected from the buffeting.

Its sales have continued to increase, and its turnover grew more than seven percent in the first half of this year, to eight billion euros .

Wales Bonner, the daughter of an English mother and a Jamaican father, has picked up a string of awards for her innovative approach to menswear blending European tailoring and African influences.

In the past, and under her own label, she has explored themes of identity and post-colonial heritage.

In a 2019 interview with The Guardian, Wales Bonner said “I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be a historian or an artist”.

Hermes’s artistic director Pierre-Alexis Dumas welcomed her, saying “her contemporary view of the world, of crafting and of culture, will continue to guide the men’s pret-a-porter collection”.

bitchy | Will the British police actually investigate Prince Andrew with this new information?

by jummy84 October 20, 2025
written by jummy84

There’s going to be a wall-to-wall royal catastrophe this week as the fallout from Prince Andrew’s degeneracy continues. On Friday, Andrew was allowed to “give up” his ducal title and his royal honors, all part of a private deal he worked out with King Charles. Then over the weekend, the Mail published never-before-seen emails and documents from the Epstein files. Additionally, excerpts from Virginia Giuffre’s book, Nobody’s Girl, continue to come out. Now we know that Andrew got a hold of Virginia’s Social Security number and information, and he gave that information to his police contacts because he wanted to harm and smear Virginia. Now it’s possible that Andrew could face an actual police investigation in the UK?

Prince Andrew faces becoming the first member of the Royal family to be investigated by police for more than 20 years after he was accused of trying to use his protection officer to smear his teenage sex abuse accuser. The Metropolitan Police is “actively looking into” allegations that he asked his taxpayer-funded bodyguard to investigate Virginia Giuffre after obtaining both her date of birth and social security number.

He then told Ed Perkins, Elizabeth II’s then deputy press secretary, that he had asked one of his officers to dig up information about Giuffre, according to a leaked email. A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “We are aware of media reporting and are actively looking into the claims made.”

The Prince could potentially face a criminal investigation in the US for sharing Giuffre’s nine-digit social security number without her consent. Spencer Kuvin, the lawyer who represented nine victims of Jeffrey Epstein – the late paedophile who abused Giuffre – suggested that the Prince could face a hefty jail sentence, noting that it was a crime to knowingly transfer, possess or use, without consent, another person’s social security number.

“Penalties for this crime are very severe and can be up to 15 years in prison,” he said. The US Social Security Act also protects this information. “Given the information disclosed so far it appears that Andrew may have violated both of these acts. The FBI should immediately open an investigation into his actions and request that Andrew subject himself to an interview. Both the US and British authorities should not protect this awful individual. The world should hold Andrew accountable and show everyone that justice matters.”

The Met has looked into allegations relating to the Prince and Epstein’s activities in London three times and opted not to investigate. In October 2021, Scotland Yard announced that it would take “no further action” against Prince Andrew after reviewing legal documents from the civil case brought by Giuffre. But Sigrid McCawley, Giuffre’s former lawyer, said on Sunday that the newly unearthed emails warranted a “thorough investigation” into the force’s actions.

She told The Telegraph: “For too long the Metropolitan Police has been a pawn for the powerful and privileged. Weaponising the criminal justice system to discredit and debase survivors is wrong and cannot be tolerated. These new revelations warrant a thorough investigation and a new examination of actions taken by Prince Andrew and the Metropolitan Police to silence the bravery of Virginia Giuffre.”

Buckingham Palace staff could also face questions over what they knew and what they knew about the sharing of Giuffre’s private information.

[From The Telegraph]

I absolutely hope that the Met Police investigate Andrew thoroughly, but I doubt it will happen. Or rather, they’ll announce a splashy investigation, then they’ll slow-walk it and eventually do nothing about him. Meanwhile, various MPs are now calling on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to change the law so that Andrew can be formally stripped of all or some of his titles. Right now, Andrew’s York ducal title is only “in abeyance,” meaning not used, or the title has been suspended. Andrew Lownie (a royal biographer) pointed out that Starmer would only have to tweak the Peerage Act of 1963 to really strip Andrew of his York title. But Andrew would still be a prince.

I also wanted to show this clip of Emily Maitlis speaking over the weekend. Maitlis interviewed Andrew in 2019, in what was the “beginning of the end” for Andrew, and part of this now six-year cover-up.

Very powerful interview from @maitlis on the removal of Prince Andrew’s titles. From her original work on Newsnight & still now she demonstrates that her work is for the targets & survivors of Epstein (& their families) – vitally prioritising truth in an age of convenient lies. pic.twitter.com/OdtZKT5gef

Association of Independent Festivals and British Arts Festivals Association announce alliance

by jummy84 October 17, 2025
written by jummy84

John Rostron credit Jody Hartley

The Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) has forged an alliance with the British Arts Festivals Association (BAFA) that will see the two trade bodies work together across events, data analysis, representation, training, resources and more.

AIF and BAFA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding based on shared objectives to the benefit of both memberships – with AIF serving the independent music festival sector and BAFA representing multi-arts cultural events.

Through the MOU, both AIF and BAFA have committed to:

1. Host twice-yearly online member meetings that bring festival members of both organisations together to learn, share and connect.

2. Work together to deliver in-person events in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

3. Publish joint reports on the state of the festival sector.

4. Support each other in increasing representation at sector meetings and increasing information flow between industry and public sector bodies.

5. Establish shared data points for surveying and reporting to members on trends that will help improve decision making and event sustainability.

6. Produce shared resources and deliver shared training for members.

7. Offer cross-party access to BAFA Conference and AIF Congress.

8. Work together to grow and support the music and arts festival sector in the UK.

AIF CEO John Rostron said: “AIF’s membership is based on collaboration and cooperation between those working in the independent festival market, and this alliance with the wider multi-arts festival sector is an extension of that philosophy. There is already some significant crossover between our memberships. By working more intentionally together, we will all benefit from a greater diversity of insight, experience and expertise.”

BAFA Director Fiona Goh said: ”BAFA exists to provide insight, inspiration and connection for the arts festivals community through the networking, training, advocacy and support that we offer. Our members create extraordinary work across the UK, and partnership supercharges that work, transforming what’s possible. We’re looking forward to BAFA and AIF working together more strategically in the future to the benefit of the whole festival sector.”

British Composers Unite to End Ghostwriting in Film, TV and Game Music

British Composers Unite to End Ghostwriting in Film, TV and Game Music

by jummy84 October 16, 2025
written by jummy84

A number of leading British composers have joined The Ivors Academy’s call to “End Ghostwriting” in a campaign to ensure media composers are credited and compensated fairly for their work.

Calling for an end to the practice of ghostwriting in music for film, TV and video games – the activity of contributing creatively to a soundtrack, without a writing credit being disclosed – the academy is encouraging composers to commit to changing industry practice by signing a pledge.

Related

Ghostwriters in these sectors often receive no screen or IMDb credit, and therefore are excluded from cue sheets, meaning they lose the royalties they are legally entitled to.

According to the academy, the three pillars of the End Ghostwriting pledge are: To be fully transparent with productions about who will compose the music; To ensure that all contributing composers are credited on cue sheets, on screen where possible, and on IMDb; To accurately submit work for awards consideration that fairly credits everyone involved in the composition.

The campaign has been backed by a series of renowned media composers and members of The Ivors Academy, including Sheridan Tongue (Silent Witness, Wonders of the Universe), David Arnold (Casino Royale, Sherlock), Aisling Brouwer (The Buccaneers, White Riot) and more.

Other names involved include Ben Foster (Happy Valley, Torchwood), Daisy Coole and Tom Nettleship (The Pay Day, The Wives), Jessica Jones (The Tinder Swindler, Our Universe), and Sofia degli Alessandri-Hultquist (Dickinson, Red, White and Royal Blue), along with Jenna Fentimen, head of agency at Manners Faber, among others.

Charlie Puth at the GRAMMY Hall of Fame Gala held at the Beverly Hilton on May 16, 2025 in Beverly Hills, California.

In a press release, Roberto Neri, CEO of The Ivors Academy, said: “We’re calling time on ghostwriting, where talented media composers can work on high-profile productions without ever being acknowledged. Thanks to our Media Council of composers, we’re bringing transparency, integrity and fairness back to the heart of audio-visual music. We must give composers credit where credit is due.”

David Arnold, fellow and board member of The Ivors Academy, added: “Our Industry is changing rapidly. Budgets and schedules are becoming more compressed and workloads are becoming more complicated to manage. So sometimes we need help. This campaign is here to ensure that help doesn’t go unrecognised and unrewarded. It’s only decent and it’s only fair.”

The Ivors Academy also runs the Ivor Novello Awards, which recognize excellence in songwriting and composing. The End Ghostwriting campaign will impact the 2026 edition of the event, as entrants will now also be asked to confirm that cue sheets list all composers who wrote a cue from scratch or made a significant new creative contribution. Entries that do not include all qualifying writers will be ineligible for consideration.

Elsewhere, earlier this month (Oct. 2), RAYE received an Ivors Academy Honour in recognition of her songwriting advocacy, led by a campaign that resulted in U.K. major labels committing to cover expenses for songwriters attending their studio sessions.

Upon accepting the award at an event in London, she said: “Being a songwriter is also one of the greatest privileges, and I think it’s something that should be about grafting and talent, not about how rich you are, or to be in a good situation financially to be a songwriter. It shouldn’t be about that.”

New James Bond will be a “fresh face” British actor, says new report

by jummy84 September 25, 2025
written by jummy84

The new star of the James Bond franchise will reportedly be a “fresh face” and will be British.

Daniel Craig departed the film series with 2021’s No Time To Die and speculation has been rife ever since about the identity of his 007 successor. Earlier this year, Amazon took over creative control of the franchise, with Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight having since been confirmed as director and writer, respectively.

The decision over who will take the role has yet to be made, but Deadline have reported that Villeneuve and the producers are seeking a “fresh face” and will only be choosing from British actors. Their preference is said to be to cast “an unknown” that is in his late 20s or early 30s.

It was recently reported that unknown actor Scott Rose-Marsh had tested for the role, while it has also been claimed that Harris Dickinson, Jacob Elordi and Tom Holland were being eyed for the part by Amazon – with the latter recently addressing the rumours by saying it is “the pinnacle of working in our industry”.

Kingsman actor Taron Egerton – who has also been a fan favourite for the role – has seemingly taken himself out of the running: “I don’t think I’m a good choice for it,” he said. “I think I’m too messy for that… as far as I’m aware, nobody’s asking me to do it. But also, it’s possibly not quite the thing that would make me happiest. I do think it’s a big old undertaking, it kind of consumes your life, a role like that.”

Helen Mirren recently said that she believed Bond has to be played by a man. “I’m such a feminist, but James Bond has to be a guy,” she said. “You can’t have a woman. It just doesn’t work. James Bond has to be James Bond, otherwise it becomes something else.”

NME awarded No Time To Die four stars, writing: “For the most part though, and with so much at stake thanks to COVID decimating cinema, No Time To Die producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson should be applauded for taking some bold risks. The gobsmacking ending, in fact, may be the biggest in Bond history. Yet when the credits finally roll on Daniel Craig’s last hurrah, all those difficulties fade into the background. If we didn’t know better, we’d say it even looked like he enjoyed himself.”

Event Buyers Live announces British Heart Foundation as new charity partner

by jummy84 September 18, 2025
written by jummy84

Event Buyers Live (EBL) is proud to reveal a new charity partner for EBL25.

This year, the hosted buyer event is raising vital funds for the British Heart Foundation (BHF). But that’s not all. Attendees will also have the opportunity to take part in essential CPR and defibrillator training on the final day, too.

Neil Fagg, co-founder of EBL, explained: “Every year, EBL supports a charity and moving forward (after 3 years supporting Mental Health UK), we have chosen to support the British Heart Foundation.

“It’s a charity and purpose that is too close to the team and me sadly, the facts and statistics on the BHF website don’t lie – Heart and circulatory diseases cause around a quarter (26 per cent) of all deaths in the UK.  I lost a key figure in my world this year due to XXX. Out of a dark situation, light can be found however, and from one loss, another life and many more can be saved through awareness and pushing others to get checked and tested.  People I admire, trust and mentors, explained to focus on a charity based on personal reasoning and feelings.

“We want to raise as much money as possible for the charity and help Team BHF raise awareness of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Why? Because every day, in the UK, 270 people are admitted to hospital after having a heart attack and there are more than 40,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests in the UK each year. How many of those heart attacks could take place on your event site or office environment?

“Every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces the chance of someone surviving a heart attack by up to ten per cent. If we can educate our audience on the crucial work that BHF does, raise money to support its work, and give our audience an amazing opportunity to learn a life-saving skill than I could not be more proud, and I know my family will be too. Especially my Godfather who also trained others and served more than XX years with St John’s Ambulance.”

Team BHF will deliver CPR and defibrillator training at EBL25, which takes place at Carden Park, Cheshire (November 10-12).

Tess Swainson, fundraising manager at BHF, said: “We’re delighted that EBL has chosen to support the British Heart Foundation and the vital work that me and the team carry out on a daily basis. There are more than 7.6 million people in the UK living with CVD and a range of heart conditions so the more people that Team BHF can educate on the amazing work that we do, the better.

“I am looking forward to attending EBL with my colleagues to deliver CPR and defibrillator training and talk to event professionals about common questions we get asked every day, such as what to do if you have to carry out CPR on a woman. We have worked with lots of organisations, delivering support and advice so we can’t wait to help spread the message even further.”

Fagg continued: “We want to support BHF, which is why we would like to raise as much money as possible and fund their amazing work by asking everyone to make any donation possible.  For those attending EBL25, there will be a blind and live auction running on-site, but anyone can support our goal and target of raising £10,000 this year via our JustGiving page – www.justgiving.com/page/event-buyers-live-2025
