Peter Morgan’s ‘The Boys From Brazil’ Officially A Go At Netflix

by jummy84 November 18, 2025

Netflix is officially moving forward with the limited series reimagination of Ira Levin’s novel The Boys From Brazil, from creator Peter Morgan (The Crown), World Productions, and Orchid Pictures. As Deadline reported exclusively back in February, Jeremy Strong (Succession, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere) will lead the cast as Yakov Liebermann.

The project will also star Daniel Brühl (Rush, Inglourious Basterds) as Von Harteneck, August Diehl (A Hidden Life, Inglourious Basterds) as Johann-Friedrich Meinhardt, and Gillian Anderson (The Crown, Sex Education) as Frieda Steiner.

Additional casting includes Shira Haas (Unorthodox, Captain America: Brave New World) as Anna Koehler and Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex, Fleishman is in Trouble) as Hannah Liebermann.

Filming will begin next month in the UK, Germany, Bulgaria and Spain.

Part historical thriller, part moral reckoning, The Boys from Brazil is a 5-part limited series (hour-long episodes) about obsession, vengeance, and the terrifying persistence of hatred. It asks: when the world chooses to forget its darkest history, who will fight to keep the memory and the justice alive?

Set across three decades from the immediate aftermath of WW2 through the political turbulence of the 1970s, the series follows Holocaust survivor and Nazi hunter Yakov Liebermann in his lifelong crusade to bring Nazi fugitives to justice, a crusade that has cost him nearly everything.

When one of his young protégées, undercover in Brazil, learns of a shocking Nazi plan, Liebermann is in a race against time to expose an unimaginable truth: Doctor Johann-Friedrich Meinhardt, a sadistic Nazi scientist he believed long dead, is alive and orchestrating a diabolical project to spark the rise of a Fourth Reich.

“Building on his extraordinary work with The Crown, Peter continues to examine the political and emotional forces which, through the 20th century, have moulded the world we live in today. That he does so via the intimate human stories within the sweep of history makes his storytelling powerfully relatable,” shared executive producer Suzanne Mackie, who founded Orchid Pictures.

Levin’s novel was adapted for the big screen in 1978 by Heywood Gould and was directed by Franklin J. Schaffner. The film, starring Laurence Olivier as Ezra Liebermann and Gregory Peck as Dr. Josef Mengele, received five Academy Award nominations. The feature also starred Steve Guttenberg, James Mason, Lilli Palmer, and Uta Hagen.

The Boys From Brazil is executive produced by Suzanne Mackie for Orchid Pictures, Simon Heath (Line of Duty, Save Me) for World Productions, and Alex Gabassi (The Crown, Black Doves), who will also direct. Additionally, The Crown alumni Oona O Beirn and Andy Stebbing are producers on the project.

Sex assault charge against ‘Trailer Park Boys’ Bubbles actor ‘won’t be tried in the media’: lawyer

by jummy84 November 11, 2025
written by jummy84

The lawyer representing Mike Smith, the actor who plays Bubbles in the Trailer Park Boys, says a sexual assault charge against his client “won’t be tried in the media.”

“Well, what I’m going to say is, this is an allegation at this point. It hasn’t been proven. It’ll be tried in the court, it won’t be tried in the media,” said lawyer Stan MacDonald at Halifax Provincial Court.

“In the meantime, we ask that the privacy of everyone involved be respected. So that’s all I want to say today. Thank you.”

MacDonald appeared on Smith’s behalf Monday.

Smith has been charged with sexual assault in connection to an alleged incident that court records say took place on Dec. 30, 2017. Court documents indicate Smith was charged by Halifax Regional Police on Oct. 2.

“It is actually quite common for charges of sexual violence to come out later on into years following the alleged incident,” said Crown attorney Nicole Ford, who confirmed to reporters there is one female complainant in this case.

“That’s not uncommon, we do see that regularly and that’s why there’s no limitation for sexual violence.”

News of Smith’s charge has made headlines internationally and in entertainment outlets, with coverage on TMZ, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and BBC.

“Every person, no matter of their public status or their public personality or anything to do with their public nature or profile, doesn’t get treated any differently than any other individual,” said Ford.

“We at the PPS (Public Prosecution Service) take every file very seriously. We evaluate every file the same way for each individual person and we maintain our integrity of the investigation separate and we do not provide any type of special treatment to anyone based on their public profile.”

The matter is being transferred to Dartmouth Provincial Court, and Smith’s next court date is set for Dec. 3.

The Crown was granted a publication ban on any information that could identify the alleged victim.

Court documents show that Smith has been ordered not to communicate with or visit the workplace, home or school of the alleged victim. The documents do not include details about the allegation.

This is not the first time Smith has faced charges before. In April 2016, Smith faced a battery charge in Los Angeles for an incident at a Hollywood hotel involving a woman.

The misdemeanor domestic battery charge was dropped a month later.

The Trailer Park Boys, a TV sitcom series that follows a group of ex-convicts living in Nova Scotia and their misadventures, including petty crimes, first aired in 2001.

Trailer Park Boys announced in August they had completed filming for the 10-episode Season 13, which will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the series’ start.

An emailed statement from Trailer Park Boys Incorporated says they are aware of the allegation and take such matters seriously, and Smith has stepped away from his role as managing director.

“We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case.”

Trailer Park Boys’ Mike Smith Charged with Sexual Assault: Report

by jummy84 November 10, 2025
written by jummy84

Mike Smith, best known for playing Bubbles on the cult comedy series Trailer Park Boys, has been charged with sexual assault, reports CBC News.

According to court documents obtained by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Smith was charged on October 2nd in connection with an alleged assault that took place on December 30th, 2017, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Smith has been ordered not to communicate with the alleged victim, whose name has not been made public due to a publication ban.

According to a statement from Trailer Park Boys Inc., the company that oversees the show’s production and merchandise, Smith has “stepped away” from his role as managing director.

“We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take such matters seriously,” the company wrote. “We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved.”

The statement continues, “Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case. At this time, Mike has stepped away from his role at Trailer Park Boys Incorporated and Gary Howsam has assumed managing director responsibilities.”

In 2016, Smith was arrested and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery following an alleged incident at a Los Angeles hotel. However, Smith and the alleged victim later released a joint statement denying the allegations, clarifying that they were friends who had a “loud and heated dispute.”

Smith has been a central cast member of the mockumentary series Trailer Park Boys, which initially ran from 2001 through 2007 before being acquired by Smith, Robb Wells, and John Paul Tremblay in 2013. It later returned on Netflix for five additional seasons beginning in 2014.

A 13th season was announced in August and is set to air on their Trailer Park Boys+ streaming service.

Boys are still in the grip of crippling masculine stereotypes: 6 findings from a new survey

Boys are still in the grip of crippling masculine stereotypes: 6 findings from a new survey

Queensland, Rigid norms of manhood, based in manly confidence and toughness, emotional stoicism, disdain for femininity, and dog-eat-dog banter, are influential among boys and young men in Australia.

Between one quarter and one half of boys and young men endorse these norms. Over half feel pressure from others to live up to them, believing most people expect them always to be confident, strong and tough.

These are some of the findings from a new Australian survey of adolescents aged 14-18 years, conducted by The Men’s Project at Jesuit Social Services.

In a climate of heightened concern about boys and young men and so-called “toxic masculinity”, this study provides invaluable data on boys’ and young men’s own views. This includes the pressures they feel to live up to stereotypical masculine norms and the profound impact of those beliefs.

There are six key findings from this research.

1. Pressure to be manly remains strong

The pressure on males to be “manly” remains strong in Australian society, even in adolescence. Societal pressures on teenage boys to be “a real man” were equally observed by both boys and girls: between 60 per cent and 63 per cent of boys and girls believe most people expect teenage boys to be manly, confident, and strong at all times.

2. Most boys are open-minded about what it means to be a man

Despite this, most boys and young men themselves do not subscribe to stereotypical masculine norms. Like young adult men aged 18-30, most boys endorse more open-ended, inclusive models of manhood. Of the 27 “adolescent man box” rules – the rigid ideas of manliness – there was majority endorsement among boys for only three of them.

These findings should steer us away from two extremes in views of boys and young men. In one, all boys are painted as the flag-bearers for a rigid, sexist masculinity. In the other, the harms some boys and young men perpetrate against others are described as the problem of only a very small number of mad, bad males.

Neither is true.

In contradiction to the first, boys’ support for rigid masculine norms is weaker and more uneven. In contradiction to the second, between one in five and one in ten boys personally endorse attitudes that condone or support violence and control in sex and relationships. In addition, one in five boys reported engaging in some form of bullying, physical violence or sexual harassment in the previous month.

3. Boys are more likely than girls to believe in masculine norms

There is a large gender gap in adolescents’ support for stereotypical norms of manhood. Although boys and girls agree on the extent of societal pressure, boys are far more likely than girls to endorse these norms.

For example, the seven adolescent man box statements reflecting a constant effort to be manly receive support from 25 per cent to 44 per cent of boys, while the seven statements reflecting emotional restriction receive support from 7 per cent to 34 per cent of boys.

Far smaller proportions of girls endorse these statements: 8 per cent to 15 per cent for constant efforts to act manly, and 2 per cent to 14 per cent for emotional restriction.

What impact will this gender gap have on young people’s relationships and friendships, when twice as many boys as girls feel that boys have to act manly, confident, and strong, avoid activities usually done by girls, and hide their feelings and fears?

4. More boys think boys have it harder than girls

While adolescents in general support gender equality, there is also ambivalence and backlash, particularly among boys. Nearly all adolescents agree it is “important for teenage boys to treat girls and women as equals in all areas of life”. However, 42 per cent of boys also agree that “in Australia today, boys have it harder than girls”.

This simultaneous support for gender equality as a general ideal while agreeing that men or boys are now disadvantaged relative to women or girls is visible in other Australian data too. It can be found, for example, in surveys conducted in 2018, 2020, 2021, and 2025.

Young men’s views of boys as disadvantaged may reflect recognition of genuine forms of male disadvantage such as in schooling outcomes, defensive backlash to shifts in gender relations, or the influence of the “manosphere”, the online network of anti-feminist groups.

5. Parents’ and peers’ views have a large effect

Parents and peers play influential roles in shaping boys’ and young men’s attitudes towards masculinity. Although this comes from males’ own reports, other data corroborate this, finding for example that fathers’ adherence to traditional masculine ideology is correlated with their sons’ adherence.

6. The stronger the masculine norms, the more harmful

Boys’ and young men’s endorsement of rigid masculine norms feeds into harm to boys and young men, and to the people around them. The more strongly adolescent boys hold rigid views about masculinity, the less likely they are to seek help for a personal problem or to report that anyone knows them well.

For example, under one quarter of boys with the highest levels of support for the “man box” agreed that no one really knows them well, compared to 46 per cent of boys with the lowest levels of support.

The stronger their personal endorsement of masculine norms, the more likely they are to blame victims of domestic violence, consume violent pornography, and cause harm to others.

For example, 39 per cent of boys with the highest level of support for the man box had used bullying, physical violence or sexual harassment in the past month, more than five times as many as the 7 per cent of boys with the lowest level of support.

Although a range of valuable initiatives engaging boys and young men have sprung up around Australia, we are not doing anywhere near enough to shift entrenched masculine cultures of sexism and stoicism.

We must build gender-equitable approaches to masculinity into school curriculums, parenting programmes, and initiatives in sports, workplaces and online media.

We must craft messages that encourage boys and men to resist harmful masculine norms. And we need to build on the positive, such as boys’ already substantial rejection of rigid norms of manhood. This will strengthen the protective factors that feed into healthier, more equitable ways of being.

We must balance attention to pain and privilege, addressing both how boys and young men suffer harm and how some do harm – to women and girls, gender-diverse people, and each other. Sexism is baked into the “man box”, particularly in the disdain and hostility for girls and femininity. It must be confronted head-on.

Above all, we must take the work to scale, moving from a handful of programmes among boys in schools to systematic efforts across settings and communities. GRS GRS

Lil Wayne Missed Verzuz Battle Due To Illness, Says Hot Boys Member

by jummy84 November 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Hot Boys member B.G. has cleared the air regarding Lil Wayne’s unexplained absence from the highly anticipated Cash Money vs. No Limit VERZUZ matchup, confirming that the rap superstar was forced to withdraw due to illness—not internal tension or scheduling disputes.

Appearing on The Breakfast Club on Friday, Oct. 31, B.G. explained that Wayne had every intention of taking part in the event, but his health took an unexpected turn just before showtime.

“Shorty wasn’t feeling good, man,” B.G. said of Wayne during the interview, pointing out that the hitmaker also missed another show he was scheduled to perform at following the VERZUZ event. “He had a concert at Drai’s the same night, and he canceled that as well, you know,” he explained.

B.G. emphasized that the decision was strictly health-related and urged his longtime collaborator to take care of himself.

“Like I told him, we ain’t spring chickens no more, man,” the Chopper City rapper added. “You’ve got to make sure you get your rest and make sure that your body and health are just all the way intact.”

The New Orleans veteran also revealed that VERZUZ cofounder Swizz Beatz was particularly disappointed by Wayne’s absence, as the Young Money founder’s participation had been a key factor in getting the event approved.

“Swizz was, you know, even hurt behind it because … that’s the reason Swizz pulled the trigger on it, because Wayne … agreed,” B.G. shared. Despite Wayne’s absence, the VERZUZ battle lived up to its billing as a celebration of Southern hip-hop history.

Mia X delivered a powerhouse performance that earned her widespread acclaim online, with fans and peers alike praising her commanding stage presence.

Juvenile, stepping up for Cash Money, brought energy and nostalgia with crowd favorites like “Back That Azz Up” and “Ha,” drawing rave reactions from attendees and social media alike.

In a bittersweet postscript, No Limit’s Young Bleed, who participated in the event, was hospitalized following a serious medical emergency shortly after the performance. According to reports, he remains under medical care.

While No Limit ultimately claimed victory, the evening underscored the enduring legacy of both camps—and, as B.G. made clear, Lil Wayne’s absence was a matter of health, not hostility.

‘Ask Away’: Rosé on Crazy Rumors, Her Dog’s Feet, and Writing Songs About Mean Boys

by jummy84 October 11, 2025

Wondering where Rosé calls home these days? “I would say the plane, lately,” the New Zealand–born, Australia-raised singer-songwriter says with a laugh as she crosses the threshold of the Ned NoMad. She’s on set with Vogue to kick off a new video series called Ask Away, and lucky for us, she’s nothing if not game.

After ordering herself a chilled vodka shot with lime, Rosé digs into her favorite rumor she’s ever heard about herself, reveals her favorite smell (“My dog, Hank, and his feet”), and even enjoys a cozy call from none other than Paris Hilton, who discusses how much fun it was to present her friend with the MTV VMA for song of the year last month.

After a few more special guests show up at the hotel’s bar to lob Rosé some questions, the fun really gets started: we learn her favorite curse word (you’ll have to watch the video to hear her say it), how she’s tried to turn herself from a night owl into an early bird, and her extremely relatable songwriting inspiration: “Boys… mean boys!” If Rosé weren’t a global superstar, she’d probably be “a primary-school art teacher,” and while she’d undoubtedly be a dream in the classroom, aren’t we so lucky to have her music—and her sheer star power—in our lives? Boys vs girls: Who is more at risk of childhood cancer? Oncologist reveals prevention tips

Dr. Sudha Sinha shared that boys are more at risk of childhood cancer than girls. Know the tips to prevent childhood cancer.

Cancer is mostly associated with adults, but there is a type of cancer that can affect children as well. Childhood cancer, although rare, is on a steep rise all over the world. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr. Sudha Sinha, Clinical director and HOD, Medical Oncology, Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad said, “While these illnesses are rare, they can be devastating for families. Boys are slightly more at risk than girls for developing certain types of childhood cancers.” Also read | Oncologist debunks 5 myths about childhood cancer: Is it always fatal?

Boys vs. girls: Who is more vulnerable?

“Cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma, brain tumours, and neuroblastoma are diagnosed more frequently in boys. One exception is Wilms’ tumour (a type of kidney cancer), which is seen a little more often in girls,” the oncologist said.

Why this difference? The reasons are still being studied, but several factors may play a role:

  • Biological: Variations in immune system function and hormone regulation between boys and girls.
  • Environmental exposures: Boys may be more vulnerable to pollutants, toxins, or prenatal exposures.
  • Genetic influences: Subtle genetic variants might predispose boys to certain cancers, though evidence remains incomplete.

Can childhood cancer be prevented?

The doctor said that unlike adults, children usually don’t have lifestyle-related risk factors such as smoking or alcohol use. “However, environmental exposures, maternal health during pregnancy, and certain infections or conditions can influence risk. While not every cancer is preventable, families can take meaningful steps to lower risks,” Dr. Sudha Sinha said. Tips to prevent childhood cancer:

During pregnancy:

  • Avoid more than two cups of coffee daily (linked to higher risk of childhood leukaemia).
  • Eat a rainbow of fruits and vegetables daily; at least two servings of fresh fruits a day provide antioxidant protection for the baby.
  • Avoid frequent intake of grilled, barbecued, smoked, or deep-fried foods.
  • Take prenatal vitamins with folic acid as they can reduce the risk of leukaemia and brain tumours in children.
  • Avoid excess fatty meats and seafood, and refined vegetable oils (sunflower, soy).
  • Maintain a healthy weight and active lifestyle. Fitter mothers are more likely to have healthier babies.
  • Avoid alcohol and smoking (including passive exposure from family members).
  • Breastfeed if possible. Breastfeeding lowers the risk of childhood leukaemia by about 10%, and by nearly 20% when continued for six months or longer.
  • Choose clean, balanced nutrition with whole grains, lentils, nuts, and fresh home-cooked meals are safer than highly processed or oily foods.

For young children:

  • Encourage outdoor play and physical activity; limit screen time.
  • Guard against pesticide and chemical exposure at home and workplace.
  • Protect from air pollution (dense traffic zones linked with higher leukaemia risk).
  • Avoid unnecessary X-rays and CT scans.
  • Use sunscreen for outdoor activities.
  • Ensure early screening for siblings of children with hereditary cancers like retinoblastoma.
  • Monitor children with infections or genetic conditions (HIV, Down syndrome, Epstein-Barr virus) more closely.

Tracking down the best gifts for teen boys is no small feat. In middle and high school, interests, trends, and culture are changing non-stop, which you’ll find reflected in your teen boys’ wishlist (or, distressingly, lack thereof). So what do teen boys actually want? We spoke to teens, tweens, and their loved ones (and did some heavy TikTok research) to find out what’s popular this year.

Know an aspiring athlete (or just a teen who wants to look like one)? The sports fanatics we chatted with had one brand on their minds: Nike, still reigning supreme as the trendiest label among high schoolers, although Adidas is a close second. AirPods were also huge, and tons of teens were itching for things that make them feel a little more grown up, à la cologne and grooming tools.
