“Believe in a little bit of magic.” HBO has revealed an official trailer for another fascinating new Music Box documentary film titled Happy And You Know It, the latest mesmerizing cinematic creation from the wonderful doc filmmaker Penny Lane. Subverting the notion that making music for children is easy and proving that love, imagination, and emotional truth are the foundations of songs that resonate, Happy And You Know It reminds us of the magical way music connects us across generations and to the child inside us all. The doc dives into the surprisingly powerful world of children’s music, uncovering origin stories of the artists who shaped the genre. It chronicles the unexpected paths musicians take to embrace the creative freedom found in writing music that shapes childhoods. Featuring conversations with talented musicians like Anthony Field of “The Wiggles”, Chris Ballew, Divinity Roxx, Laurie Berkner, Johnny Only, and many others. I’m a big fan of Penny Lane’s other Music Box doc Listening to Kenny G and this one looks just as good. I’m glad Penny tells this story in such a bright, beautiful, uplifting way – it is definitely worth a watch.

Here’s the full official trailer (+ poster) for Penny Lane’s doc Happy And You Know It, from YouTube:

Happy And You Know It Poster

Children’s music is terminally uncool to adults and dismissed by music critics, yet adored by kids. Music Box: Happy And You Know It explores the underestimated & wildly popular genre, delving behind the scenes to tell the origin stories of some of the top names in the field. It also traces the evolution of this prolific business and how advancements in technology and AI are reshaping and turbo-charging this genre. Featuring a colorful and charming cast and their toe-tapping songs, the film reframes children’s music as a misunderstood yet vital cultural artform that influences how kids develop. Happy And You Know It is directed by by acclaimed American doc filmmaker Penny Lane, director of many other doc films including Our Nixon, Nuts!, The Pain of Others, Hail Satan?, Listening to Kenny G, and Confessions of a Good Samaritan previously, plus many other short films. Produced by Gabriel Sedgwick and Julia Lewis. Another installment in the “Music Box” series on HBO created by Bill Simmons. Executive produced by Bill Simmons, Jody Gerson, Marc Cimino. HBO will debut Penny Lane’s Happy And You Know It doc streaming on HBO Max starting on December 25th, 2025 on Christmas Day at the end of this year. Want to watch?

Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri Box Office: Kartik Aaryan Nails A Simple Strategy

Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri Box Office Strategy For Kartik Aaryan Might Be A Winner!(Photo Credit –YouTube)

There is a very distinct line between a star turning into a superstar, and much of it has to do with the box office success of films. Kartik Aaryan found his footing as the box office superstar once he bailed Bollywood out of the pandemic low with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’s winning run. This was followed by the trilogy’s success on Diwali 2024, and now the actor is continuing the streak this Christmas with Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri.

The actor has moved from the horror-comedy zone to the breezy, romantic warmth of this romantic comedy that is arriving this Christmas, and the winning formula seems very clear for Kartik – own the festive calendar and rule the number game!

In Bollywood, the festive season is the ultimate battlefield for box office supremacy. While it was once the sacred domain of the five senior superstars, the holiday season is now owned by the younger lot as well. Kartik Aaryan proved his box office potential with his Diwali winner Bhool Bhulaiyaa and in Christmas 2025, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri is all set to follow the lead.

This is the time when a holiday release guarantees good numbers, and Kartik Aaryan‘s strategic planning for locking the festival and ruling it with numbers seems to be on point! And honestly, this festival booking seems to be working with Kartik since the audience trusts him with the kind of cinema he offers, the one that can be enjoyed with your loved ones over the holiday season!

While Diwali is about family gatherings, Christmas is about cosy romance, hope, and feel-good stories. Kartik’s strength lies in his ability to tap into this charming, heroic zone and connect with his audiences instantly. He comes with the guarantee of entertainment.

Kartik Aaryan, in recent times, has emerged as the most bankable bet at the box office, and Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri‘s Christmas release is surely hinting at a powerful success story at the box office.

For the unversed, Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri is directed by Sameer Vidhwans and produced by Dharma Productions & Namah Pictures. The film stars Ananya Panday along with Kartik Aaryan.

Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin kicked off their recent run of productivity, in late September, with “Second Sleep” and “Star Eyes.” They next released “Human Happens” and “Paint Me a Picture,” in mid-October, and “Unoriginal” and “Black-Eyed Susan Climb” on Halloween. All eight songs are now being collected in a box set called Nice Day: A Collection of Singles. They’re available separately as 7″ vinyl singles, too.

Regarding today’s new songs Tenenbaum and Lewin said, “This is the final pair. (We made it for you.) Thank you for listening to these songs; it’s been a nice day to tangle with you.”

The Nice Day songs follow Magdalena Bay’s Imaginal Disk. They remain on tour in support of the album.

Living In A Box singer Richard Darbyshire dies aged 65 as former bandmates pay tribute

by jummy84 November 11, 2025
written by jummy84

Richard Darbyshire, the former vocalist of 1980s pop trio Living In A Box, has died aged 65.

Darbyshire joined the group in 1985 after visiting the same Sheffield recording studio as his future bandmates, Anthony ‘Tich’ Critchlow and Marcus Vere. They were recording the song of the same name, which became one of their biggest hits, and invited him to record the vocals – they then officially became a trio.

His family confirmed to the BBC that he died on Monday (November 10), and said, “We are all very sad but his memory and songs will live on.”

His former bandmates also paid tribute to the “incredible talent,” calling him a “pure craftsman and a master of his art.” They said: “Richard, wherever you are, Tich and I will miss you dearly. The laughs we had, the wildcat ride we went on, will never be forgotten.”

No cause of death has been given.

Darbyshire was born on March 8, 1960 in Stockport, growing up in Manchester. When he was 13, he moved to Japan with his parents and attended an American boarding school.

Before joining Living In A Box, he studied English Literature at Oxford University and was in the Manchester band Zu Zu Sharks alongside Adam And The Ants bassist Gary Tibbs.

Two years after joining Living In A Box in 1985, they released the song of the same name as their debut single and it peaked at Number Five in the UK, also becoming their only single to break into the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. Their debut album, also ‘Living In A Box’, got to Number 25 in the UK.

‘Room In Your Heart’, from their second album ‘Gatecrashing’, also got to Number Five in the UK charts, and he said in 2014 that he was proud of the track because it gave him a rare opportunity to play guitar. Another single from the album, ‘Blow The House Down’, featured guitar from Queen’s Sir Brian May.

Darbyshire left the band in 1989 due to artistic differences and changes to their record label, and they broke up in 1990 before reforming in 2016 with another singer, Kenny Thomas. In 2022, they announced another new vocalist, Bryan Chambers.

Darbyshire, meanwhile, embarked on a solo career and released his debut solo album, ‘How Many Angels’, in 1994. He’s also written songs for artists including Lisa Stansfield, Jennifer Rush and Level 42, and had been holding songwriting workshops in London before his death.

He is survived by his wife, the vocal coach Sonia Jones.

‘Christy’ Doesn’t Deserve the Box Office Smackdown It Got on Twitter

by jummy84 November 11, 2025
written by jummy84

In a weekend in which “Predator: Badlands” was far and away the top movie in America, bringing in $40 million domestic (when it was projected for just over half that), the bigger box office conversation on social media this weekend centered around a film that didn’t even crack the domestic Top 10.

That movie was the Sydney Sweeney boxing biopic “Christy,” which debuted to just $1.3 million. That is a bad number in most ways you might want to spin it, but there was one narrative that really took hold that’s easy to fight back. On Sunday, Twitter user Jonathan observed that it’s one of the worst openings for a movie that debuted on over 2,000 screens ever. To find that stat, you’ll need to scroll to the bottom of the All Time Records tab on Box Office Mojo and look at this chart, and you’ll see “Christy” ranks No. 12.

Joachim Trier at the 'Sentimental Value' Los Angeles premiere held at the DGA Theater Los Angeles, California.

The assertion went viral, bolstered by the ongoing controversy about the recent American Eagle ad featuring Sweeney’s “Great Jeans.” What’s more, Sweeney has had two other movies that fizzle at the box office this year: the Lionsgate crime movie “Americana” and Ron Howard’s “Eden,” in which she’s part of an ensemble and not the main star. It’s a big shift after Sweeney bolstered the surprise box office of films like “Anyone but You” and “Immaculate.”

Black Bear, which is a brand-new distributor that made “Christy” its very first release, both financed and distributed “Christy” and is doing so for a responsible budget of $15 million. It will take a hit, but the distributor also sold the international rights to “Christy,” which can help to mitigate the box office losses.

But saying “Christy” had one of the worst openings ever based on the number of screens it played on is a weird, cherry-picked stat. Even if you were to switch tabs on that very chart and look at movies that opened on over 2,500 or 3,000 screens, you’ll see some other films, even some from this year, that opened in a similar ballpark as “Christy” and had worse per-screen-averages. And it’s nowhere to be found among the top titles if you filter to over 600 theaters, which Box Office Mojo still labels as “Wide.”

“It definitely does feel cherry-picked. What release date are we talking about? What’s the competition?,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior analyst at Comscore. “For films like this or ‘The Smashing Machine,’ they’re not going for box office, they’re going for artistic freedom and are character-driven films that are not trying to be blockbusters.”

Dergarabedian explains there are a litany of other factors that could’ve played into why “Christy” didn’t connect. Did the average moviegoer think Sweeney was unrecognizable when they saw the trailer? Do casual audiences even know who the film’s subject Christy Martin is? Could a movie like “Predator: Badlands” have sucked up all the oxygen for other new releases? Would it have performed better opening in the spring? Even a movie like “Die My Love,” starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, was another starry, adult drama that only made $2.8 million from virtually as many screens. It’s hard out there for drearier movies for grown-ups.

You could make the case that “Christy” shouldn’t have opened on near as many screens as it did and instead went with a platform release in order to slowly build buzz. Dergarabedian points out that had “Christy” done just that, it wouldn’t be the first movie that died on the vine before it even had a chance to go wide. Distributors often grab additional screens because they can and because there’s a willingness from exhibitors to play them, which was the case here. The cost of a digital print is minimal compared to a film print. And if you’re a brand-new distributor like Black Bear, why not take a little added risk?

Sweeney too isn’t taking the disappointment to heart and, in a post on Instagram on Monday, said there are some more important things than box office.

“Thank you to everyone who saw, felt, and believed and will believe in this story for years to come. If ‘Christy’ gave even one woman the courage to take her first step toward safety, then we will have succeeded,” she wrote. “So yes, I am proud. Why? Because we don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact,” Sweeney said. “And ‘Christy’ has been the most impactful project of my life.”

The Girlfriend box office collection day 4: Rashmika Mandanna’s film maintains momentum with the surge of positive word of mouth.

The Girlfriend box office collection day 4: Rashmika Mandanna and Dheekshith Shetty’s much-awaited film, The Girlfriend, finally released in theatres on Friday and opened to largely positive reviews from the audience, but mixed reviews from critics. Now, after a decent weekend, the film has managed to maintain its momentum on its first Monday.

The Girlfriend box office collection day 4: Rashmika Mandanna’s film fails to maintain momentum.

The Girlfriend box office performance on first Monday

According to Sacnilk, the film saw growth over the weekend, collecting ₹2.4 crore and ₹2.7 crore on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, due to good word of mouth. However, it saw a slight drop on Monday and collected ₹1.10 crore. Now, the film’s total stands at ₹7.50 crore.

The Girlfriend had an overall 18.55% Telugu occupancy, with 14.61% in morning shows, 22.55% in afternoon shows and 18.49% in evening shows. The film is also facing tough competition from Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi’s Haq in the Hindi belt.

About The Girlfriend

Written and directed by Rahul Ravindran, it tells the story of postgraduate student Bhooma Devi (Rashmika), who is gaslighted into falling in love with Vikram (Dheekshith), the college stud. She soon finds herself in a toxic situation she cannot seem to extract herself from. Produced by Dheeraj Mogilneni and Vidya Koppineni, the film also features Anu Emmanuel and Rao Ramesh in key roles.

Talking about directing Rashmika and Dheekshith, filmmaker Rahul told HT in 2024, “The amount of faith she has given me as a director… the way she has dived in and given her everything, it has been an absolute pleasure to work with her. I am good at ensuring that my actors have a comfortable working environment, and I adapt to work with them. But with Rashmika, our natural instincts just fit well together. Dheekshith is so motivated and driven that having him on set has been a joy.”

Haq box office collection day 4: Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi’s courtroom drama has been receiving unanimous positive word of mouth.

Haq box office collection day 4: Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi’s Haq was released in theatres on Friday, and has seen a rise in its box office performance in the first weekend. The film was met with a positive response from fans, with word of mouth spreading rapidly over social media. Haq is inspired by the life and legal battle of Shah Bano Begum, whose landmark 1985 case led the Supreme Court to grant divorced Muslim women the right to maintenance.

Haq box office collection day 4: Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam in a still from the film.

Haq box office

As per the latest update on Sacnilk, Haq showed a slight dip on Monday, and managed to collect ₹ 1.00 crore, as per early estimates. The dip is expected on a working day, and yet Haq has shown momentum at the box office. The total collection of the film now stands at ₹ 9.95 crore. The film had a decent opening on Friday and showed 100% growth on Saturday. Sunday was also met with similar growth.

Yami reacted to the organic growth of the film because of the hype created by the good reviews. She said on her X account, “The power of ‘Word of mouth’ .No foul-play or any gimmicks. Straight from our hearts to the audience. Even from trade & media perspective, I feel a lot of positivity that they want a film like ‘ HAQ’ to be a success. It’s a rarity & I shall cherish this moment for life (folded hands emoticon)”

About Haq

Haq revolves around Shazia (Yami Gautam), a homely, uneducated woman who marries Abbas Khan (Emraan Hashmi), a successful advocate. One day, out of the blue, Abbas brings home a second wife. Not long after, he ends their marriage through triple talaq. Shazia’s legal fight for her rights forms the rest of the film. Haq, directed by Suparn S Varma, also features Vartika Singh, Danish Husain, Sheeba Chadha, and Aseem Hattangady in prominent roles.

The film is inspired by the life and legal struggle of Shah Bano Begum, whose landmark case in 1985 led the Supreme Court to grant divorced Muslim women the right to maintenance. The Madhya Pradesh High Court had dismissed a petition filed by Shah Bano Begum’s daughter, seeking a stay on the release of the film.

Thamma Ayushmann Khurrana Talks About His Box Office Achievements & Upcoming Sooraj Barjatya Film, “I Am A Quintessential Risk Taker…”

Exclusive: Ayushmann Khurrana Celebrates His 5th 100 Crore Film Thamma ( Photo Credit – Maddock Films )

Ayushmann Khurrana is currently enjoying the success of his horror comedy Thamma, also starring Rashmika Mandanna. Helmed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the film is the fifth offering of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, and it has led the MHCU to a 1000 crore total in India. Interestingly, Ayushmann is the only Indian actor of his generation who delivered two 100 crore films post-COVID!

The superstar, who is excited for the upcoming trajectory of MHCU, in an exclusive conversation with Koimoi, talked about his box office achievements and how he has never shied away from taking risks. He promised to continue taking risks with his upcoming line of films, which also includes Sooraj Barjatya’s next.

Ayushmann Khurrana On His Box Office Achievements!

The actor has delivered the 5th 100 crore grosser of his career, but Ayushmann emphasized being a pure artist at heart. Talking about delivering the highest-grossing standalone film of MHCU, the actor said, “I’m too right-brained to think about numbers. But one thing that numbers indicate is that you’re reaching out to as many people as possible, and for an artist, that’s very gratifying because what you want to do is for people, and their appreciation is the biggest appreciation.

Sequels Should Have Something To Say!

Discussing picking a sequel, the actor maintained, “I always believe you should not go for a sequel if you have nothing new to say.” However, is there a dilemma while picking a franchise that will work like the initial part? The Andhadhun actor affirms, “So if there’s a tight, ready script with something novel in there, which seamlessly segues to the next film, then of course, it should be an obvious sequel. But otherwise, just to gain something out of it, it doesn’t make sense. So I guess I’m for the freshness and uniqueness of scripts more than just going for sequels.

100 Crore Number Game – Not A Pressure!

Talking about delivering two 100 crore films in a post-pandemic world, Ayushmann Khurrana gladly credited it to his filmmakers. The actor said, “For me, numbers only indicate that you’re reaching as many people as possible. I also believe that I’m fortunate to work with very commercial minds like Dinesh Vijan, Amar Kaushik, Aditya Sarpotdar, and the previous films with Raj Chandel and Ekta Kapoor. I believe that this success, this 100 crore number game, makes me more courageous as an artist to take more risks, which I have taken pre-pandemic.”

He continues, “I would love to do films of that genre, which are probably not commercial, commercial (in quotes, on paper), but they still achieve a good feat at the box office. And, you know, commercial films like Dream Girl, Thamma, or future films like Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 or Sooraj Barjatya’s next film will make me more confident as a risk taker. Because I’m a quintessential risk taker, I will always do that.”

We wish the actor all the best of luck for his upcoming projects.

Stay tuned to Koimoi for exclusive interviews and Bollywood news.
