Deepika Padukone has always been one of Bollywood’s most popular stars. Recently, news of her leaving Kalki 2 surprised fans and sparked debates online. After this news, an old interview about her leaving Race 2 came back into the spotlight, once again raising debates about her professional choices.

The Race 2 Incident

An old interview with filmmaker Ramesh Taurani came back into the spotlight. He talked about how Deepika left Abbas–Mustan’s Race 2 in 2012 after shooting for six days. Taurani said she left without a proper reason and went to a Hollywood project. He also mentioned that he tried to meet her on the sets of Cocktail to solve the issue, but she showed no regret.

Taurani explained, “We tried everything to convince her not to do this. I really tried to find a way to work things out with Deepika. Unfortunately, she was not willing to budge and did not even show an ounce of remorse for the massive inconvenience caused to us, our actors, and our senior directors. After this, I had no choice but to file a complaint against her in the AMPTPP and CINTAA. This unprofessional behaviour deeply saddens me.” (via: News18)

Later, the matter was resolved, and Deepika returned to the film with new terms.

Reason behind the Kalki 2 Removal

According to reports from News18, the main reason for Deepika’s exit was her demands regarding fees and work hours. She reportedly asked for a 25 percent increase in her acting fee along with a strict 7-hour workday. The producers tried negotiating on both points, but she and her team did not budge.

This is to officially announce that @deepikapadukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of #Kalki2898AD.

After careful consideration, We have decided to part ways. Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership.

And a film like…

Another challenge was her entourage, which reportedly included 25 people. The actress’s team asked for five-star accommodation and reimbursement for food for all members throughout the shoot. The producers requested that she reduce the team size, but Deepika remained firm in her demands.

Even with these controversies, Deepika Padukone remains one of the most popular and successful actresses in Bollywood.

Manoj Bajpayee calls box office obsession a ‘monster’ created by Bollywood’s successful people: ‘Soon it will eat them’

Actor Manoj Bajpayee is not a fan of film producers and studios throwing around box office numbers to promote their titles. The actor, who balances commercial and independent cinema, says this obsession with box office is a monster that will ‘eat up’ its own creators.

Manoj Bajpayee talks about independent cinema and box office.

The actor is gearing up for the release of Jugnuma, directed by Raam Reddy. The film has earned acclaim worldwide as The Fable and is finally getting a release in Indian theatres this month. Ahead of the release, the National Award winner sits down with Hindustan Times to talk about the state of independent films in the country and the newfound obsession with the box office.

On the box office monster

Over the last few years, box office numbers have turned into promotional tools to leverage buzz for films. Talking about the phenomenon, Manoj says, “It’s a monster that is created by the producers themselves, the commercial producers, for their own game. Very soon, this monster is going to eat you up. You have created Bhasmasura. Just wait for the day you are going to put your hand on your own head, and you will be ruined. This has been created by our own successful people, and one day it will eat them up.”

OTT’s change of stance

Equating box office success with quality has particularly hurt smaller, independent films, as their low collections are now considered a sign of bad quality. Manoj argues, “The small, independent films always experience struggle. Then came a very brief time when OTT had just entered the country, and they were welcoming. But very soon, they changed their stance, and all of them started focusing on mainstream subjects and faces. One feels sad, because I am of the opinion that if you finish independent movement, your cinema will become just a product and nothing more. If the art is taken out, it has no value.”

He gives the example of Amitabh Bachchan, a rare superstar who also did smaller films during the peak of his stardom. “Mr Bachchan has also done a few fabulous (small) films like Abhimaan and Mili. He has done many more. Only Don, after a point, will be boring. He is Mr Bachchan also because of the kind of films he has done earlier in his career,” says the actor.

The struggles of indie films

He mentions OTT platforms, the streaming giants that occupy a large chunk of India’s entertainment space now, and laments that even they have given in to commercial compulsions now. “Everyone who is more interested in making commercial films or buying commercial films knows it’s a gamble. It does not pay off that often. The producers and OTT platforms are more interested in putting their money into that film because the gain is huge. Agar ye tukka lag gaya toh bahut paisa aayega. But mostly lagta nahi hai, kuch hi lucky hote hain jinka lagta hai (If this gamble works, one can earn a lot of money, but it doesn’t happen mostly. It only works for a lucky few.) They are fine with it. But, we are also fine with our own struggles,” says Manoj.

Jugnuma, directed by Raam Reddy, also stars Priyanka Bose, Deepak Dobriyal, and Tillotama Shome. It is releasing in theatres on September 12.

Karan Johar Defends Bollywood’s Big-Budget Films: ‘Box Office Has No Rules’

by jummy84 September 5, 2025
written by jummy84

Filmmaker Karan Johar, who is backing Teja Sajja’s upcoming film Mirai, recently defended the Bollywood industry amidst a year of underperforming big-budget productions. Speaking at a press meet for the film, he was asked if high production costs and inflated star fees were to blame, but he dismissed the notion, stressing that “every film has its own destiny.”

”All the actors have started understanding now that they have to contribute to the film’s vision,” he explained, stating that they are becoming more cooperative. He argued against placing films into a rigid box of expectations, saying, “You can’t say anything for sure.” He added that a film’s success is not guaranteed by a big vision or young actors, citing multiple examples of such films that have failed.

Karan emphasized that different eras bring different narratives, and that the audience ultimately determines a film’s success. He used two recent examples to support his point that there are no rules for the box office. He mentioned Saiyaara, a massive success starring a debutant, which earned an impressive ₹569.75 crore at the box office against a reported budget of ₹50 crore. He also highlighted the success of the animated film Mahavatar Narsimha, which grossed ₹319 crore worldwide.

Ultimately, Karan stressed that storytelling remains the cornerstone of cinema and that the audience’s verdict is what truly matters.

Directed by Karthik Gattamneni and Anil Anand, Mirai stars Teja Sajja, Shriya Saran, and Jayaram and is scheduled for release on September 12. Karan Johar’s other upcoming production, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, directed by Shashank Khaitan and starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, is slated for release on October 2.

The King Of Bollywood’s Bold New Look: Shah Rukh Khan’s Sleek Ponytail At Ganpati Festivities | Glamsham.com

While Shah Rukh Khan may not have a new film hitting theatres soon, the superstar is basking in personal and professional joy. This week, SRK captured the spotlight not for his on-screen presence but for a heartfelt moment as a father and a striking appearance at a Ganpati celebration that had fans swooning.

SRK’s Dashing Look Steals the Spotlight

At a recent Ganpati celebration, Shah Rukh Khan made a stylish appearance in a navy-blue kurta paired with white bottoms. The kurta, left slightly unbuttoned, gave off a relaxed yet regal vibe — a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. However, it was his hairstyle that truly stole the show.

SRK sported a small, neatly tied ponytail a look that fans quickly dubbed “timeless” and “edgy.” Paired with a classic wristwatch and his signature charm, the actor exuded effortless elegance. Social media erupted with praise, with users commenting on how SRK continues to reinvent his style, maintaining a youthful aura even after three decades in the industry.

A Proud Father Moment: Aryan Khan’s Creative Debut

Beyond fashion, the eventful week held emotional significance for Shah Rukh Khan as he introduced his son Aryan Khan to the media for the first time as a creator and director. Aryan is making his debut with the series The Ba**ds of Bollywood, produced under the family’s banner, Red Chillies Entertainment.

At a press event, a visibly emotional SRK addressed the gathering:
“Main bohot shukraguzaar hoon Mumbai ki is pavitra dharti ka… Aaj bohot khaas din hai, kyunki isi pavitra dharti par mera beta bhi apna pehla kadam rakh raha hai. Bohot accha ladka hai.” He urged the audience to support Aryan just as they supported him:
“Jo pyaar aap logon ne mujhe diya hai, uska 150% aap use dena.”

Inside The Ba**ds Bollywood

Choosing direction over acting, Aryan Khan’s series promises a gritty, satirical take on the inner workings of the Hindi film industry. The ensemble cast includes Bobby Deol, Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, Mona Singh, Manoj Pahwa, and Raghav Juyal. The show is already building anticipation for its bold narrative and unique perspective.

From style icon to proud father, SRK once again reminded fans why he remains the heart of Bollywood — both on and off the screen.

Salman Khan Sultan

National Sports Day: Salman Khan – The Sultan Who Redefined Bollywood’s Sports Genre

by jummy84 August 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Until a few years ago, the sports drama in Bollywood largely belonged to a niche space. Films like Lagaan and Chak De! India won acclaim, but they were exceptions rather than the norm. It was Salman Khan’s Sultan (2016) that shifted the balance, turning a genre once seen as risky into a mainstream phenomenon.

Salman Khan – The Sultan Who Redefined Bollywood’s Sports Genre

With Sultan, Salman Khan did what few stars of his stature dared,  he merged the masala of commercial cinema with the authenticity of a sports narrative. The result was a film that not only entertained but also brought wrestling, a sport often overlooked on the big screen, into the cultural spotlight. By embodying Sultan Ali Khan, a flawed yet inspiring athlete, Salman gave audiences a hero who was larger-than-life but also deeply human.

The impact of Sultan went beyond its box office triumph. It changed how filmmakers and producers perceived sports dramas. No longer were they seen as “festival films” for awards or limited audiences. Salman’s presence made them bankable, aspirational, and capable of drawing families into theatres.

Equally significant was Salman’s commitment to the role. His physical transformation and willingness to embrace vulnerability gave credibility to the genre. He proved that a superstar could lend his mass appeal to tell stories of grit, struggle, and redemption rooted in sport and still deliver one of the highest-grossing films in Indian cinema.

By redefining the perception of sports dramas, Salman Khan didn’t just give Bollywood one of its biggest blockbusters,  he gave the industry a blueprint on how to make sports films connect with the masses. In doing so, he truly became the Sultan who changed the game.
