How ‘Saiyaara’ Captivated Bollywood Fans Around the World

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

A few days before I finally watched “Saiyaara” upon its Netflix debut, I had the privilege of seeing “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” for the first time in theaters. The quintessential Hindi film romance (directed by Aditya Chopra, who produced “Saiyaara”) still excels for all the reasons it did 30 years ago, the same reasons that have kept it screening for voracious crowds for as long.

Something else though. The timid girl, the ruffian guy. As Vaani (Aneet Padda) sat down with Krish (Ahaan Panday) in Mohit Suri’s “Saiyaara” and asked him not to smoke or swear, my mind flashed to Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) and Simran (Kajol) in the barn where she balks at the sight of him chugging cognac “in front of a girl” to keep warm. The women are simple, innocent, in need of protection; the men are wild, free, and inevitably drawn to the righteous path of loving these women.

Driver's Ed

Now, Vaani Batra is almost definitely clinically depressed, and that’s not her fault. Her fiancee dumped her via phone call while she waited for him at the courthouse six months prior, and meeting Krish — let alone working with him, bonding with him — is causing some sort of system overload. I will protect the Big Twist that I myself managed to evade for three months, which gives the film its emotional potency depending on who you ask (not me!).

“Saiyaara” debuted in U.S. theaters on July 18, quickly becoming the second highest-grossing Indian film of 2025 and the highest-grossing Indian romantic film ever (a statistic that comes with the caveat of classifying “Kabir Singh” as a romantic film). Indian films usually stay in U.S. theaters for a week or two, but one month later “Saiyaara” was still playing multiple times daily at the Times Square AMC Empire theater, an indicator of smash hit success.

Online, “Saiyaara” took over the Bollywood algorithm on any platform. From remixes to memes to emotional fan reactions, the film claimed a fiercely loyal and notably young audience that arguably hasn’t connected with anything this strongly in years.

The reality is that commercial Hindi cinema has set a shockingly low bar over the past decade; action movies that earn big at the box office but offer nothing new or noteworthy, new age romance that takes the romanticism out of romance; and launch after launch of the next generation of performing talent which never lives up to its legacy and persists anyway. There are highs — like three Shah Rukh Khan movies in a year, “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,” — but they arrive amid plummeting lows (I won’t name them, but at least the memes were fun).

Within that context, almost everything about “Saiyaara” is refreshing. There’s an actual story seen from start to finish (thanks to the source material: South Korea’s “A Moment to Remember”) — Krish’s music career, Vaani’s return to herself, and the path they carve forward together — and a solid soundtrack from Mithoon, Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah, Arslan Nizami, Vishal Mishra, Sachet-Parampara and The Rish (Rishabh Kant). Vikas Sivaraman’s cinematography tries its best to eschew the overexposed, airbrushed look of its contemporaries. Panday plays a convincingly gruff tortured artist alongside Padda’s struggling ingenue, and most of the screen time is devoted to their pairing instead of introducing tertiary excess.

But seeing “Saiyaara” hailed as the industry’s savior did not inspire me the way it’s intended to. Theater attendance in India is as scrutinized as it is in the States, with more and more old films being rereleased to boost ticket sales. The same questions keep rising. Will they ever make movies like they used to? Has social media ruined audience engagement? Have we lost a breed of star? As Hindi films and global cinema search for answers, “Saiyaara” is just a piece of the puzzle — and hopefully a guiding light out of dark times.

“Saiyaara” is now streaming on Netflix.

Aryan Khan Surprises Diljit Dosanjh, Fans With Singing, Guitar Skills For The Bads Of Bollywood

written by jummy84

Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, is set to make a powerful debut — not in front of the camera like his sister Suhana Khan, but behind it. He marks his directorial entry with the upcoming Netflix web series The Bads of Bollywood, and the buzz around it has only grown stronger with each teaser and song release.

One of the highlights leading up to the release has been the track Tenu Ki Pata, a collaboration between Aryan and Punjabi sensation Diljit Dosanjh. A behind-the-scenes video, shared by Shah Rukh himself, shows Aryan working closely with Diljit on the song. In the clip, SRK can be heard joking with Aryan, saying he’ll get famous now thanks to working with Diljit.

The surprise element? Aryan not only directed but also showcased his musical talent. He plays the guitar and even sings — something that caught Diljit off guard. In response to SRK’s tweet, Diljit praised Aryan, calling him “pyara” and revealing that Aryan’s musical abilities were shockingly impressive. “He knows every single note of the song,” said Diljit, adding, “God bless him. Respect.”

This unexpected musical side of Aryan has left fans in awe and heightened the anticipation for The Bads of Bollywood. The internet is buzzing with excitement, especially after learning that Aryan can sing so well.

The series features Kill star Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, and Bobby Deol in lead roles, with special appearances by Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Disha Patani, and more.

Set to premiere on September 18, The Bads of Bollywood is shaping up to be one of the most awaited releases on Netflix this year.

Tamannaah says Karan Johar ‘champions people’ who aren’t from Bollywood amid nepotism debate: ‘He’s warm, welcoming’

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Actor Tamannaah has heaped praises on filmmaker Karan Johar saying that he even “champions people” who aren’t from the industry. Speaking with News18 Showsha, Tamannaah said Karan understand the “importance of making films with very strong female characters.”

Tamannaah has only good things to say about Karan Johar.

Tamannaah says Karan Johar champions outsiders

Tamannaah called Karan “extremely warm and welcoming”. “As a person, I think he’s extremely warm and welcoming, and he champions people who’re from the industry and those who aren’t from the industry,” she said.

Tamannaah says Karan has in-depth understanding of women

Tamannaah said that Karan has been consistently understanding women “for many, many years now.” “Maybe Karan has an in-depth understanding of women, but he isn’t validated enough for that. He’s a person who has consistently done that for many, many years now. Many a times, he has and continues to be the face of great causes while he enjoys being in this set-up of glamour and is his fun self. He’s a great example for how to take the responsibility of the industry that he belongs to, and he holds that very proudly.”

Karan has time and again faced criticism on social media platforms for giving opportunities to “nepo-kids.” On Koffee With Karan 5, actor Kangana Ranaut called him ‘the flag-bearer of nepotism’ and he has been facing flak since then. Recently, Karan got angry when an Instagram user called him “nepo kid ka daijaan (nanny for nepo kids).”

Karan responded, “Chup kar!!! Ghar baithe baithee negativity mat paal! Do bachon ka kaam dekh !! Aur khud kuch kaam kar (Shut up! Don’t breed negativity sitting at home! Watch the work of the two kids! And do some work yourself)!!!!”

Tamannaah and Karan’s next project

Tamannaah and Karan are collaborating on their upcoming series Do You Wanna Partner. It also stars Diana Penty, Jaaved Jaaferi, Nakuul Mehta, Shweta Tiwari, Neeraj Kabi, Sufi Motiwala, and Rannvijay Singha. It is written by Nandini Gupta, Aarsh Vora and Mithun Gangopadhyay. Do You Wanna Partner premiered on Prime Video on September 12.

Produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, with Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, and Apoorva Mehta backing the project, the show is directed by Collin D’Cunha and Archit Kumar.

Shots Fired Outside Bollywood Actress Disha Patani’s UP Residence, Goldy Brar Claims Responsibility

by jummy84 September 12, 2025
written by jummy84

Shots were fired outside Disha Patani’s house early Friday morning, reportedly in response to the comments she allegedly made against Hindu spiritual leaders Premanand Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya Maharaj. Goldy Brar’s group has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack. It happened in Civil Lines, Bareilly.

Police told India Today that the incident took place around 4:30 am, when at least two shots of aerial firing were reported. No injuries occurred. Senior Superintendent of Police Bareilly, Anurag Arya, said, “Immediately, the local police and a team from the Special Operations Group (SOG) reached the house and began the investigation. At least five teams have been formed to apprehend the accused. An adequate number of security personnel have been deployed at Patani’s home to ensure the safety of the family members.”

Shortly after the attack, a social media post in Hindi surfaced, claiming responsibility and directly naming two individuals, Virendra Charan (of Rohit Godara Group) and Mahendra Saran.

The message, translated in English, reads, “Jai Shri Ram Ram Ram to all brothers. I, Virendra Charan, Mahendra Saran (Delana). Brothers, today, the firing that happened at Khushboo Patani/Disha Patani’s (Bollywood actress) house (Villa No. 40, Civil Lines, Bareilly, UP), we got it done. She insulted our revered saints (Premanand Ji Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya Ji Maharaj). She tried to demean our Sanatan Dharma. The insult of our deities will not be tolerated. This was just a trailer. Next time, if she or anyone else shows disrespect towards our religion, then no one in their house will be left alive. This message is not just for her, but also for all the artists of the film industry and those associated with them. Whoever in the future commits such an insulting act against our religion and saints should be ready to face the consequences. To protect our religion, we are ready to go to any extent. We will never back down. For us, our religion and society are one, and protecting them is our first duty.”

The authenticity of the post is yet to be verified. For the unaware, Disha Patani and her sister Khushboo Patani criticised spiritual leader Aniruddhacharya for his remarks on women and live-in relationships. The police are currently investigating.

Abuse allegations, Babita’s influence, and Bollywood: How Sunjay Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor’s ‘fairytale’ marriage ended

by jummy84 September 11, 2025
written by jummy84

In the early 2000s, Karisma Kapoor was one of Bollywood’s top female stars. When her engagement with actor Abhishek Bachchan was announced, it made news for weeks. The two ‘royal families’ of Bollywood were coming together, it seemed. But it was not to be. Within months, their engagement was broken, and just months later, Karisma was betrothed to industrialist Sunjay Kapur.

Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur with Randhir Kapoor at their wedding.

Many in Bollywood asked who Sunjay was at the time. The Delhi-based industrialist was a divorcee and known to be the life of the Delhi party circuit. But none of that mattered to Karisma’s mother, former actor Babita. A source told Hindustan Times in the mid-2000s that she always wanted an ‘industrialist husband’ for Karisma. “Sunjay was a good catch and nothing else mattered except his industrialist tag,” the source added, “Sunjay himself was perhaps a little star-struck.”

The fairytale wedding

It was a fairytale wedding at the RK Studios in Chembur, Mumbai, on September 29, 2003. Although a large section of Bollywood avoided the wedding due to their loyalties to the Bachchans, Karisma soon wrapped up her pending films and moved to Delhi.

She continued to travel to Mumbai to film her show Karishma: A Miracle of Destiny, but reports said that Sunjay did not like that. Karisma ended the show and bid her acting career goodbye, at least for a while.

The first cracks appear

But the Delhi-Mumbai divide hit her hard. A source told HT in 2006 that Karisma felt uneasy at Delhi’s parties and did not fit with the socialite crowd. “She was unable to match wits with the Delhi society crowd,” said the source. Apparently, “she once thought a Labrador was a new car.”

In March 2005, Karisma moved back to Mumbai for the birth of her daughter, Samaira, and stayed back. Sunjay went to her with divorce papers, but she refused to sign. After much negotiation, the two reconciled. Son, Kiaan, was born in 2011.

The messy divorce

But the marriage unravelled again. As per reports, Sunjay’s family blamed Babita’s ‘influence and interference’ in Karisma’s life. When she filed for divorce, Karisma alleged domestic abuse and attributed it to Sunjay’s alleged substance abuse. A messy divorce followed, which saw the marriage eventually break down in 2016, almost a decade after the cracks first appeared.

Sunjay eventually married Priya Sachdev in 2017, and they had a son. Karisma and Sunjay’s children—Samaira and Kiaan—remained close to their father even after he remarried. But Karisma largely stayed away from family gatherings and vacations. The delicate balance broke after Sunjay’s death.

Sunjay’s death and the legal battle

The businessman died in June 2025 in London, and soon, Kiaan and Samaira accused Priya of forging his will and excluding them from the estate. The reported ₹30000 crore worth of the estate meant that a fight was on. The case is in the Delhi High Court now.

Be it asking for TV actors to receive national recognition for their work at the National Awards or taking care of the animal around her show’s sets, the actress has always spoke her mind.

Earlier today, the actress took to social media and shared a video calling out the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) after being stuck for hours in traffic owing to their management during the construction of a metro near Film City. She also accused the BMC of taking Mumbaikars for granted. Scroll below to know all she said and watch the video of the traffic too.

Taking X (formerly Twitter), Rupali Ganguly share a video from outside Film City slamming the BMC and their ‘so-called management’. The ‘Anupamaa’ actress wrote, “Still stuck for over 1 hour now outside filmcity ! For a 14 km distance it takes me 2 hours to get home at night and mornings usually 1 hour but because of @mybmc haphazard functioning it took me 2 and a half hours to get to my set !! Stop taking #mumbaikars for granted @mybmc!!!! (sic)”

And this so-called management of the Metro, the BMC, whoever responsible, had to get such a big container. Half the road is anyway blocked because of it. If they had to get this, they should have done this at 3 am-4 am in the morning. Not at a time when everybody is going to work. At 10 am!”

Soon after this post, the actress shared another video while still stuck in traffic. She simply captioned it, “Innumerable trees destroyed Filmcity greenery destroyed Thank u @mybmc”

The wait is finally over. Aryan Khan has unveiled the trailer of his directorial debut series The Ba***ds of Bollywood and it is every bit dramatic, cheeky, and unapologetic as fans hoped it would be. With seven episodes packed with glamour, ambition, and plenty of sharp humour, the show is shaping up to be one of the most exciting new releases of the year.
At the centre of the story is Aasmaan Singh, played by Lakshya, a young dreamer who dares to believe he can conquer the world’s most colourful film industry. Supporting him on this journey are his witty best friend Parvaiz (Raghav Juyal), his sharp manager Sanya (Anya Singh), and his family, uncle Avtar (Manoj Pahwa), mother Neeta (Mona Singh), and father Rajat (Vijayant Kohli).

But dreams are never easy to chase. Aasmaan’s biggest test comes in the form of superstar Ajay Talvar, essayed by Bobby Deol, who brings all the firepower of a seasoned performer. The stakes grow even higher when Aasmaan is cast opposite Ajay’s daughter, Karishma (Sahher Bambba), leading to a mix of rivalry, ego clashes, and personal battles. The plot thickens further with Freddy Sodawallah (Manish Chaudhari), a cunning producer, and Jaraj Saxena (Rajat Bedi), a faded star yearning for a comeback.

Check out the trailer here:

Adding to the hype, the trailer teases a spectacular line-up of guest appearances. From Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan to filmmaker SS Rajamouli, rapper Badshah, and Disha Patani, the cameos promise to be a treat for Bollywood lovers. The buzz is even bigger with reports of the three Khans sharing screen space in a rare, historic moment.

Netflix has unveiled the trailer for Aryan Khan’s highly anticipated debut series, The Bads of Bollywood, and it’s already creating a buzz online. The satirical, star-studded drama promises a rollercoaster ride through the glamorous yet chaotic world of the Hindi film industry.

A Satirical Dive into Bollywood’s Dark Side

The seven-episode series follows Aasmaan Singh (played by Lakshya), a passionate newcomer determined to make his mark in the film world. With his loyal best friend Parvaiz (Raghav Juyal) and sharp manager Sanya (Anya Singh) by his side, Aasmaan’s journey to stardom is anything but easy. His biggest challenge? Superstar Ajay Talvar, portrayed by Bobby Deol, who plays the perfect foil to Aasmaan’s underdog ambition.

Adding to the madness is a lineup of eccentric industry characters—from washed-up actors to manipulative producers—painting a comedic and chaotic picture of Bollywood’s inner workings.

Historic Cameos: Aamir, Shah Rukh, and SS Rajamouli Share Screen

What’s grabbing major headlines is the surprise appearance of Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and SS Rajamouli — all together on screen for the first time. The Ba***ds of Bollywood trailer: The trailer for Aryan Khan’s debut Netflix web series The Ba***ds of Bollywood is out now after releasing the preview last month. The trailer hints that the seven-episode series is filled with sharp one-liners and larger-than-life moments. Produced by Gauri Khan via Red Chillies Entertainments Pvt. Ltd, the series will feature cameos by Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and others.

The Ba***ds of Bollywood trailer

The series follows Aasmaan Singh (Lakshya), an ambitious newcomer with big dreams. With his loyal best friend Parvaiz (Raghav Juyal), sharp-tongued manager Sanya (Anya Singh), and his supportive family by his side — his uncle Avtar (Manoj Pahwa), mother Neeta Singh (Mona Singh), and father Rajat Singh (Vijayant Kohli) — Aasmaan steps into Bollywood.

He soon finds out that dreams come at a price, especially when ambition and ego collide. Aasmaan finds himself up against his biggest challenge yet, superstar Ajay Talvar (Bobby Deol), when he is cast opposite his daughter, Bollywood newcomer Karishma (Sahher Bambba). Throw the shrewd producer Freddy Sodawallah (Manish Chaudhari) into the mix, along with Jaraj Saxena (Rajat Bedi), a yesteryear actor desperate for a comeback, and what follows is a sharp, self-aware saga, set against the irresistible spectacle of Hindi cinema.

The trailer also teases a reunion between Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan. In one scene, Aamir discusses a scene with Rajamouli. Later, he dismisses Aasmaan for choosing vada pav over idly sambar. Avtar also hilariously mistakes Shah Rukh for rapper Badshah and dismisses him, making him miffed.

About The Ba***ds of Bollywood

Cameos by Ranveer Singh, Sara Ali Khan, SS Rajamouli, Badshah, Disha Patani, and more are also expected. The Ba***ds of Bollywood will premiere on Netflix on 18 September.

The music is in collaboration with T-Series. Shashwat Sachdev composed the album, with guest composers Anirudh Ravichander and Ujwal Gupta. The first track, Badli Si Hawa Hai, composed by Anirudh Ravichander and sung by Arijit Singh and Amira Gill, has already been released. Adding to the playlist is Tu Pehli Tu Aakhri, composed, produced, and arranged by Shashwat Sachdev with vocals from Arijit Singh.
