Janhvi Kapoor says her character in Param Sundari is ‘half-Tamilian, half-Malayali’ amid backlash for her casting | Bollywood

Janhvi Kapoor, who will be seen in Param Sundari, said that she is not a Malayali but she is interested in their culture.

Janhvi Kapoor has been busy promoting her upcoming film Param Sundari for the last few days. After the trailer of the film was released, the actor’s accent and portrayal have received criticism from a number of performers and viewers from Kerala. Malayalam actor-singer Pavithra Menon and content creator Steffi slammed the casting of Janhvi in the film. Amid this backlash, Janhvi has now clarified the background of her character in a discussion with ET Digital. (Also read: Janhvi Kapoor’s Malayali girl act in Param Sundari gets a thumbs down in Kerala: ‘Can’t get more stereotypical’)

Janhvi Kapoor’s Param Sundari is set to release in theatres on August 29.

What Janhvi said

During the interaction, which also had Sidharth Malhotra and producer Dinesh Vijan, when Janhvi was asked what drew her to the film, she said, “I was at a point in my life where I myself, more than an actor, but as a member of the audience, was dying for just a rom-com. A light-hearted romantic movie where you have a smile on your face the entire time you are watching. Here was a story that gave me the chance to go towards my roots.”

‘I’m also a huge fan of Malayalam cinema’

She added, “Of course, I’m not a Malayali, and neither was my mother, but my character is actually half-Tamilian and half-Malayali. I’ve always been very interested in that terrain and that culture, and I’m also a huge fan of Malayalam cinema as well. So yeah, I think it was just a very fun, interesting story, and I’m so happy and grateful that I could be a part of it.”

Param Sundari revolves around the cross-cultural romance between the two leads, one from Delhi and the other from Kerala. Apart from Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi, the film also stars Rajeev Khandelwal and Aakash Dahiya in pivotal roles. Directed by Tushar Jalota, it is set to release on August 29.

Anita Advani lashes out at Rajesh Khanna’s family over property dispute: ‘Karma comes around’ | Bollywood

by jummy84 August 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Anita Advani, who was rumoured to be romantically involved with the legendary actor Rajesh Khanna, has accused his family of abandoning him during his troubled years, yet inheriting his entire estate. Speaking on REEL Meet REAL, she launched a scathing critique, warning them about the consequences of “karma.”

Anita Advani warns of karma’s consequences and challenges earlier legal rulings in her fight for a share of his legacy, highlighting the actor’s lonely final years.

Anita reveals about last years of Rajesh Khanna

Anita recalled the heartbreak of 1982: “Dimple had left him, and for 30 years, he had lost everything. Everyone abandoned him. He was stuck—no divorce, no resolution.” She described how, by the time discussions began, the situation had deteriorated, declaring, “Everything went completely out of control—beyond anyone’s reach, including his own. Yet, the family ended up with his entire property. That in itself is a big story.”

Highlighting details from a recent Supreme Court statement, she added: “The earlier order against me holds no weight. Its observations don’t matter. No one can take anything with them after they go. Why cheat like this? Every relationship deserves respect. Karma comes around on its own. No matter how smart you think you are, you can’t escape it.”

The legal battle remains ongoing as Anita continues to challenge the earlier rulings and fight for her share in the actor’s legacy.

About Rajesh Khanna’s life

Rajesh Khanna, India’s first superstar, lived a life of unmatched fame and eventual solitude. Married to actress Dimple Kapadia in 1973, their relationship was rocky. The couple separated in 1982 but never officially divorced. Despite the split, Dimple returned to care for him during his final years, especially when his health began deteriorating.

In his last phase, Rajesh reportedly lived a reclusive life at his Mumbai bungalow, Aashirwad, with few close friends and confidantes. His health declined rapidly in 2011–2012 due to a prolonged illness, believed to be cancer, though the family never publicly confirmed the diagnosis.

Rajesh passed away on 18 July 2012, at the age of 69. His death marked the end of an era in Indian cinema. He was cremated with full honours, leaving behind a complex personal legacy and cinematic brilliance.

Kriti Sanon Acknowledges The Pay Disparity In Bollywood

by jummy84 August 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Kriti Sanon recently addressed the ongoing issue of the gender pay gap in Bollywood, emphasising how producers’ willingness to take risks and content-driven successes like Crew and Gangubai Kathiawadi are paving the way for change. On Thursday, she spoke candidly about the persistent disparity in pay within the Indian film industry, noting that despite ongoing discussions, the gap still stings.

Kriti Sanon Opens Up On Pay Gap In Bollywood

While speaking at CNN-News18’s SheShakti Delhi Edition, Kriti stated, “Actually, considering all the other industries, I don’t understand why the pay parity is there. For certain kinds of roles, certain kinds of jobs, whether you are a male or a female, it shouldn’t matter, and the pay should be the same. In the films, yes, we’ve been having this conversation for a very, very long time and trust me, it pinches us more than anyone else.”

She also highlighted the core issue: the vicious cycle linking star remuneration to audience appeal. “The huge gap in the payment for male and female actors. But I think it’s a circle because I feel that the fee of any actor sort of relates to how many audience you can pull into a theatre from your name on Day 1. Unfortunately, there are very few films that are, much fewer films I would say that are led by women than men.”

Kriti Reveals Female-Led Films Don’t Receive The Same Budget As Male-Led Movies

According to Kriti, even female-led films often don’t receive the same budget as those led by men. “Even if it’s a film led by a woman, I feel it’s not scaled at the same budget as a film that is led by a man would be. But that’s also because producers are scared that they are not going to get as much money back. So I think it’s a circle where female-led films don’t end up making as much money as the male-led films, and then it’s like ‘oh, that’s why his fees are more or her fees are less’.”

Kriti Sanon Says There Is A Gradual Change

Despite these challenges, Kriti sees signs of gradual change. “So I feel like it’s changing slowly. I like the fact that film work is no longer dependent on male or female; it depends on content. When a film led by three women, Crew, ended up working and entertaining the audience, it gave me hope. It felt like when it’s a female-led film, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a serious subject. You can also have fun, and you can also entertain people. You can also have these big locations and a substantial budget. I feel things will change only when some people, the producers obviously, have the heart to take the risk. Take risk on the subject, not who’s leading it.”

On her professional front, Kriti will next be seen in Aanand L. Rai’s Tere Ishk Mein opposite Dhanush. There are also reports that she may play a pivotal role in Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3, further establishing her as one of the most versatile actors of her generation.

When Aryan Khan’s The Ba***ds of Bollywood actor Lakshya spoke about him after Kill screening: ‘Perfect example of…’

As we wait to see Lakshya in Aryan Khan’s The Ba***ds of Bollywood, a throwback video of him talking about Shah Rukh Khan’s son goes viral

Like Shanaya Kapoor, Lakshya is one newcomer whose Bollywood debut kept getting pushed. He was initially going to begin his journey with Janhvi Kapoor and Kartik Aaryan’s Dostana 2, but the project was shelved. Karan Johar then announced Lakshya as one of the leads, alongside Shanaya, in Bedhadak. But that film was also shelved. In 2024, Lakshya finally made his Bollywood debut with Kill, leaving a lasting impression on audiences. Up next, he will be seen as the hero of Aryan Khan’s directorial debut show, The Ba***ds of Bollywood. But what does Lakshya think of Shah Rukh Khan’s son?

Aryan Khan with Lakshya and Mona Singh

A year ago, during an interview with Fever FM, Lakshya opened up about his friend and now director Aryan Khan. When asked if he has ever felt a difference between nepo and non-nepo artists, Lakshya shared, “Difference I think bahar waale log zyaada banate hain. Andar kuchh hai nahi. Because aadhe toh mere dost hi hain saare. Janhvi (Kapoor), Shanaya (Kapoor), Ananya (Panday), Agastya (Nanda). Aur itne sahi log hain naa yeh. Itne correct hain, koi complications nahi hai, koi insecurities nahi hain. Apna kaam karte hain aur tameesdaar log hain. Aryan (Khan) humaare dost hain. Aryan was there in the screening and I made him meet my parents. And my father said ‘He doesn’t look like he’s Shah Rukh Khan’s son’. Like woh pair wair (proceeded to make the gesture of touching feet), matlab he’s just a perfect example of how a boy should be.”

Raghav Juyal, who was the villain of Kill and will be seen as Lakshya’s best friend in Aryan’s show, chimed in and added, “Bohot tehzeeb, usse naa bohot culture diya hua hai Aryan ko.” Well, clearly Aryan not only won his star cast over with a well-written show, but also his charming personality.

Also starring Bobby Deol and Sahher Bambba in the lead with epic cameos by Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh and Karan Johar, Aryan’s show The Ba***ds of Bollywood is set to arrive on Netflix on September 18.

9 Bollywood Actors Who Had Extreme Physical Transformation For Their Roles

Being an actor takes work, as behind all the glitter and glamour, one has to put a lot of hard work into their craft. While some film roles can get mentally exhausting, a few can also be physically challenging. There have been multiple actors who have taken on this challenge in recent years and triumphed.

From losing all their body fat to gaining some extra kilos in a matter of days, these stars have gone to extremes to suit their roles in movies. Here are nine Bollywood actors who underwent extreme body transformations for their characters.

1. Kartik Aaryan in Chandu Champion

Kartik Aaryan grabbed eyeballs for his unbelievable transformation while playing Paralympic gold medalist Murlikant Petkar in Kabir Khan’s Chandu Champion. The actor built a lean and ripped body for his role, reducing his body fat percentage from 39% to only 7% within a year, which Kabir Khan revealed he achieved naturally without using steroids. “It’s almost next to impossible task that Kartik has managed to pull off. We snatched away all his favorite dishes,” the director said at the film trailer launch event.

2. Randeep Hooda in Sarbjit and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar

Randeep Hooda showcased his dedication toward his craft when he drastically lost weight not once but twice in his career. In 2016, he shed almost 28 kgs in 20 days to play the titular part in Sarbjit and shocked everyone with his look as the man was kept in Pakistan jail for years after mistakenly crossing the border. Once again, the actor took on the challenging task of losing 30 kilos for his lead role in Swatantrya Veer Savarkar and played the part to perfection.

3. Bhumi Pednekar in Dum Laga Ke Haisha

For her debut in Yash Raj Films’ Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Bhumi Pednekar gained 27 kgs and weighed 92 kgs by the end of the film’s shoot. The actress then took it upon herself to lose all the extra weight and lost 27 kgs before commencing the shoot of her second film, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Reflecting on her journey, Bhumi said she had two major body transformations within 2.5 years, where she gained and lost weight drastically.

4. Rajkummar Rao in Trapped and Bose

For his role as a man who is locked in a house without food and water in Trapped, Rajkummar Rao shed 7 kgs in just 22 days. He reportedly only ate a carrot and had a cup of coffee daily to appear malnourished. The actor then once again took on the task of transforming his body when he played Subhash Chandra Bose in the web series Bose: Dead/Alive and gained 11 kgs within a month.

5. Priyanka Chopra in Mary Kom

In 2014, Priyanka Chopra stepped into the shoes of boxing legend Mary Kom for her biopic. The actress had to get into the boxer’s physique and shocked everyone by flaunting her muscles in the movie. Her trainer later revealed that Priyanka always attended every workout while prepping for a role. She followed a diet that real boxers followed and completely strayed away from junk food.

6. Aamir Khan in Dangal

Mr. Perfectionist played the challenging role of Mahavir Singh Phogat in the 2016 blockbuster Dangal and put on 25 kgs to portray the wrestler with a protruding belly. He then lost all the extra kilos and built a toned body, as he had to play a younger version of the wrestler with a rugged physique in a few film sequences. Aamir revealed that he chose to shoot the scenes involving the younger version at the end of the filming schedule to have a reason and motivation to get back in shape.

7. Bobby Deol in Animal

While Bobby Deol did not get much screen time in Animal, he did grab all the limelight with his fantastic expressions and fabulous body. The actor trained rigorously for four months and reduced his body fat to 12% for the role of Abrar. Apart from weight training, Bobby made it a routine to have intense cardio sessions twice daily to achieve Abrar’s physique. Meanwhile, he followed a strict diet plan and abstained from sweets despite having a sweet tooth.

8. Vidya Balan in The Dirty Picture

For her stunning role as Reshma, aka Silk, in the 2011 hit The Dirty Picture, Vidya Balan had to put on 12 kgs. The actress revealed that while initially apprehensive about gaining weight, she went on with it to do justice to the character. Her hard work paid off as the actress astonished everyone with her performance and transformation and bagged all the Best Actress awards that year.

9. Shahid Kapoor in Kaminey and Kabir Singh

Shahid Kapoor made headlines in 2009 when he got rid of his chocolate boy image, donning six-pack abs for Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminey. The actor then had another transformation for his 2019 blockbuster Kabir Singh. As Shahid portrayed his character’s journey from a college student to a man struggling with alcoholism, he had to put on 8 kgs and later lose 14 kgs for the film in a span of a few months.

Ram Gopal Varma says many ‘dumb’ dog lovers treat dog bites as love bites: ‘Same people are buying foreign breeds’ | Bollywood

Ram Gopal Varma has issued a strong note for dog lovers calling him a ‘dog hater’ after he backed the Supreme Court order on stray dogs a few days ago.

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has issued a strong note on a section of social media that called him a ‘dog hater’ after he backed the decision of the Supreme Court to move all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelters within eight weeks. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), RGV said that the stray dog menace has gone too far to be ignored and the solutions need to strike a ‘balance’ of compassion with practicality.

Ram Gopal Varma said that the stray dog menace has gone too far.

What Ram Gopal Varma said

In his note, Ram Gopal Varma wrote, “To all those DUMB DOG LOVERS out there, who think I am a DOG HATER, I say this. Are you so blind, deaf and brain-dead that you can’t see children being bitten, mauled and killed on CCTV videos all over the place? Can’t you f…ing read the official reports on exploding rabies cases? It is common sense that in any emergency—fire, flood, riots, etc, you first deal with the immediate dangers, before holding debates on the root causes and long-term solutions…. The Supreme Court order is not some abstract policy note, but it is a blunt acknowledgement that the stray dog menace has gone extremely too far and human lives have to be saved on a priority level.”

‘Tell the dog lovers to take stray dogs’

He went on to add that there are several dog lovers who treat the dog bites as ‘love bites’. He said, “Coming to adoption, the dog lovers who cry hoarse about compassion are the same people buying foreign breeds to keep them in luxury houses which are well looked after by expensive vets. Just try to tell the dog lovers to take stray dogs in exchange for their pedigree breeds…While feeding, many dog lovers get bitten themselves but don’t report it, treating it as a “love bite.” But rabies spreads silently through these uncontrolled packs, endangering the entire neighbourhood.”

He continued that the stray dog problem in India is real and that to combat this issue, the solutions must balance compassion with practicality, which will depend on both the existing infrastructure and local attitudes.

On August 11, a bench of Justices Pardiwala and R Mahadevan took a stern view of the stray dog problem and ordered the Delhi-NCR to start removing stray dogs from all localities and house them in dedicated dog shelters to be set up by civic authorities. In the last few days, multiple protests have been held in the city over the past few days, demanding that the SC’s order be withdrawn.

Priyanka Chopra Recalls Earning Just 10% of Male Co-Stars’ Salary & Finding Pay Parity in Hollywood

When Priyanka Chopra Talked About Pay Disparity In Bollywood, “I’d Earn 10% Of My Male Co-Actor..”

When Priyanka Chopra Opened Up About Pay Disparity, Body-Shaming & Struggles in Bollywood and Hollywood(Photo Credit –Facebook)

Global icon Priyanka Chopra is one of the most loved and successful actresses not only in Bollywood but also in Hollywood. Over the years of her acting career, Priyanka has established her name, and proved her worth as a versatile actor. Let’s revisit the time when Priyanka Chopra opened up on pay disparity in the industry. Read on to know more.

Priyanka Chopra On Pay Disparity In Bollywood

In an interview with BBC 100 Women, Priyanka spoke about pay disparity in showbiz and being body-shamed because of her complexion. PC shared, “I’ve never had pay parity in Bollywood. I would get paid about 10% of the salary of my male co-actor. It (pay parity) is large, substantially large. And so many women still deal with that. I’m sure I will too if I worked with a male co-actor now in Bollywood. My generation of female actors have definitely asked for equal pay. We’ve asked, but we’ve not got it. I thought it was absolutely okay to sit for hours and hours on set, while my male co-actor just took his own time, and decided whenever he wanted to show up on set is when we would shoot.”

Priyanka Chopra Recalled Her Initial Days In Bollywood

Priyanka further reminisced about her earlier days in Bollywood, where she was body-shamed for her skintone. The Heads of State actress said, “I was called ‘black cat’ and ‘dusky’. I mean, what does dusky even mean in a country where we are literally all brown? I thought I was not pretty enough; I thought I had to work a lot harder, even though I thought I was probably a little bit more talented than my fellow actors who were light skinned. But I thought that was right because it was so normalised.”

She continued, “Of course, that comes from our colonial past. It’s not even been 100 years since we shed the British Raj, so we still hold on to it., I think. But it is up to our generation to be able to cut those ties and change it so that the next generation doesn’t inherit the equality placed on light skin,” she added.

Priyanka Chopra Says Hollywood Gave her Pay Parity

Priyanka Chopra was also quizzed about how different Hollywood is, when it comes to pay parity. She said, “Well, the first time it’s happened to me, it has happened in Hollywood. So, I don’t know how to move forward. Because this was my first show with a male actor as a co-lead.” (referring to US spy series Citadel)

Priyanka Chopra’s Initial Struggle In Hollywood

Despite having an illustrious acting career in Bollywood, Priyanka still had a fair share of struggle for a decade to carve a niche for herself in Hollywood. “I would go into meetings by myself, introduce myself, and take my show reel. I worked with acting coaches and dialect coaches. I did auditions, got rejected, cried, then went back for another one. I did the hustle that I needed to do to make it in any new industry. It was a humbling experience. I think maybe I have built a certain amount of credibility, and so I’m doing interesting work. We’ll see if that is accepted or not. It’s really hard to be South Asian and Indian in Hollywood. There’s still a long way to go,” she concluded.

Abundantia Entertainment and Collective Media Network’s Historyverse announced an AI-generated film based on the lore of Lord Hanuman titled Chianjeevi Hanuman—The Eternal. The film has been touted as a first-of-its-kind ‘Made-In-AI’ and ‘Made-In-India’ feature film for theatrical release. Actor Ranveer Singh has now extended his support for the project, backing one of the film’s producers, Vijay Subramaniam on Instagram. Ranveer commented on the joint Instagram post of Abundantia Entertainment, where he shared the announcement. The post also included Vijay’s Instagram account, which Ranveer follows. The caption read, “Proud and honoured to bring the timeless story of ‘Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal’, to theatres, in a first-of-its-kind, ‘Made-In-AI’, ‘Made-In-India’ avatar. With deep reverence for our culture, heritage and history, we are set to release this innovative spectacle in theatres on Hanuman Jayanti 2026.”

Ranveer commented, “Wah (claps emoticon).”

Fans of the actor were not impressed with him openly supporting an AI-generated film. One wrote, “It’s AI. One day, they’ll make a movie without you using AI. Why are you supporting this lack of creativity?” Another said, “What’s waah about this bro? Isn’t it disrespectful to real artists?” A comment read, “As a part of the cinema industry and actor with a huge reach, the least you can do is boycott the use of AI in the creative industries and promote actual screenwriters.”

Vijay’s statement

In a statement released to the press, Vijay Subramaniam, Founder and group CEO of Collective Artists Network, said, “With this film, we have the extraordinary opportunity to reimagine cultural storytelling for an audience that cherishes both tradition and innovation. Our approach is rooted in authenticity and cultural stewardship, ensuring complete transparency about the role of AI in the creative process.”

Director Anurag Kashyap lashed out at Vijay for backing an AI-generated film while heading an artists’ agency. A part of his note on Instagram read, “This right here is the future for the spineless and cowardly so called artists in the Hindi Film industry. Well done Vijay Subramaniam. Shame is not enough on you. You should be in the gutter.” Vikaramaditya Motwane also called out the makers, and said, “And so it begins… Who TF needs writers and directors when its ‘Made in AI’.”

On the work front, Ranveer will next be seen in Dhurandhar, which will be released in theatres later this year in December.
