Avatar: Fire and Ash first reactions are in as critics single out “unimaginable” and “bold” sequel filmmaking

written by jummy84

The first wave of reactions have arrived for Avatar: Fire and Ash ahead of the release of the third entry in James Cameron’s epic sci-fi franchise later this month – and early signs suggest the new film could be another winner.

Although full reviews for the film are still under embargo for the time being, critics have begun posting their takes on social media, and the vast majority have been very positive so far.

“Three films in and I still can’t get over how magical the [Avatar] movies are,” wrote Perri Nemiroff of Collider, adding that Fire and Ash “truly feels like a ride.”

She continued: “I couldn’t believe how quickly I was pulled back into the world of Pandora and swept up in the situation. And once that happens, there’s a noticeable increase in complexity in quite a few aspects of the production.”

Critic Courtney Howard called the film “a glorious saga” and added: “Bold, brilliant & awesome in every way, this is what movie theatres were built for,” while writer Michael Lee claimed that it “pushes technical boundaries in unimaginable ways”.

Avatar: Fire and Ash 20th Century Studios

Chris Killian of ComicBook.com wrote that the film was a “damn good James Cameron movie!” and continued: “What else do you need to know? Go see it in 3-D in the best theatre you can find because it’ll blow your mind. That’s what JC does. Every bit as gorgeous as you’d expect, Fire and Ash is also easily the most INTENSE Avatar movie yet.”

Some viewers noted that the film would work best as a double bill with previous entry The Way of the Water, suggesting that it might be best to rewatch that one before going to see the new film.

“It feels like a Part 2 of that story,” wrote YouTuber Adam Hlaváč. “I was blown away by the visuals, the score, and many performances. But goddammit, you gotta see this thing in Dolby 3D! It’s unreal how immersive it is.”

Jesse Hassenger added that it was: “The first James Cameron sequel that feels kinda like a regular follow-up rather than an innovative re-envisioning of its predecessor’s world,” but added that “it also just casually drops ~3-4 of the best/coolest action sequences of the year and I was rapt the whole time.”

While most of the reactions skewed very positive, a couple of them did also come with one or two reservations. For example, Eric Goldman wrote that while it was “another visually fantastic epic” and that “Cameron delivers spectacle like no one else”, he had “some issues with the third act and Way of Water remains the peak”.

Meanwhile, Matt Neglia of Next Best Picture wrote that while it “delivers the most emotional moments of the franchise” and is “the most epic in both scope and runtime”, the film contained “a few questionable choices” and was at times “frustrating”.

The reactions were pretty much unanimous in their praise for the visuals, but there were some critics who seemed otherwise unimpressed, with Variety’s Clayton Davis calling it the “most bloated entry yet”.

He added: “The dialogue often makes you cringe, and the story essentially devolves into an episode of My Two Dads meets James Cameron’s take on A Pyromaniac’s Love Story.”

Kaitlyn Booth also wrote that “story-wise, it’s the same ‘capture/rescue’ plot over and over again with some laughable dialogue thrown in the middle” adding that “the runtime is criminal, and if you have eye issues, avoid the 3D”.

The film arrives in UK cinemas on Friday 19th December, with Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Sigourney Weaver and Kate Winslet among the stars to reprise their roles from previous instalments and, Oona Chaplin, Edie Falco, and David Thewlis joining the cast.

The official synopsis teased: “A year after settling in with the Metkayina clan, Jake and Neytiri’s family grapples with grief after Neteyam’s death.

“They encounter a new, aggressive Na’vi tribe, the Mangkwan clan, also called the Ash People, led by the fiery tribe leader, Varang, who has allied with Jake’s enemy, Quaritch, as the conflict on Pandora escalates to devastating consequences.”

Avatar: Fire and Ash will debut in cinemas on Friday 19th December 2025 in the UK.

Review: ‘Predator: Badlands’ is a Bold Refresh of This Sci-Fi Franchise

by Alex Billington
November 7, 2025

“I am prey to none!” The latest entry in the Predator science fiction franchise is hitting theaters – where it belongs – and is ready to rock audiences with something completely new and unexpected. And that’s a good thing. Predator: Badlands is the third Predator film made by acclaimed filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg, who kicked off his exceptional sci-fi career with the sneaky sci-fi film 10 Cloverfield Lane in 2016. He made Prey back in 2022 which completely reinvigorated the Predator franchise. Earlier this year, Trachtenberg and co-director Joshua Wassung gave us the animated anthology Predator: Killer of Killers. Which makes Badlands officially the 9th movie in the Predator franchise (including the two Alien vs. Predator crossover movies in the early 00s) since it began in 1987 with the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic. This is exactly why it’s refreshing, and honestly quite exciting, to see Trachtenberg try something completely new and take this series in a whole new direction. It’s the first time we ever follow the Predator as the main character, telling the story from his POV instead of a human or something else. As much as it might be overused, sometimes “awesome” really is the right word to describe a very good movie – and this sci-fi action movie is awesome.

Predator: Badlands is a Dan Trachtenberg creation in every sense – he has been working closely with 20th Century Studios to develop this ever since Prey a few years ago. The screenplay is written by Patrick Aison; from a story by Trachtenberg & Aison. It’s also produced and directed by Trachtenberg. There are no human characters in this movie, which not only offers them a sneaky chance to make this a PG-13 movie instead of R (there’s no red human blood spilled, it’s all creatures or robots). But it’s also by design because this time they’re following the story of a young Predator warrior, called a “Yautja” – who goes by the name Dek, who ends up crash landing on a far away planet angry at his father’s desire to get rid of him because he’s the runt of the family. So he goes there to prove himself and kill the unkillable Kalisk alpha predator creature. What’s awesome about Badlands is the intense pace, starting with action, continuing with action, moving right into more action. There are a few nice moments of calm and respite, but Trachtenberg knows these Yautja well and isn’t messing around. They’re warriors. It’s this pacing that works wonders because it keeps this movie exciting from start to finish – even if it changes course part of the way through. Even if it’s not what some die-hard Predator fans want to see, it still has this angry, vicious drive within it to keep things moving along.

At the Cannes Film Festival premiere of Sentimental Value (one of my faves from 2025), Norwegian director Joachim Trier proudly proclaimed that “Tenderness is the new punk.” In defiance of many nasty, dark, aggressive stories these days, making movies about empathy and goodness and love is a rebellious act. The same can be said for Predator: Badlands – which is not at all what I was expecting to write about it when I went into my screening earlier this week. I admire that Trachtenberg has done and the choices he has made, telling this story in this way and showing us that a brutal, violent warrior like Dek actually can be tender and does have a heart and is affected by emotions and does care for others. Even if he is a killing machine. The real ambitious and entirely unique character in this is actually Thia, the damaged synthetic android played by Elle Fanning. Yes it’s a not-so-subtle crossover with the Alien universe as she is an android created by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation like Ash & Rook & David & Walter. But she’s funny and oddly playful and surprisingly empathetic and caring, and flips this whole story on its head once she meets Dek and convinces him to work together / save her (since she’s missing half her body when he finds her on the planet). Then it becomes a sort of sci-fi action buddy comedy, and, well I’ll be damned, they pull it off. It’s a blast to watch.

This balance between totally badass, all-out crazy, brutal action and a tender, heartfelt story of a wolf pack is not an easy balance to pull off. At all. Many filmmakers don’t have the chops, don’t have the tenderness within themselves, to make this work on screen for an entire movie. Trachtenberg does and it’s genuinely thrilling to sit & watch this movie be something meaningful and wholesome and still extremely violent and entertaining. He found the perfect actor in casting the very tall New Zealand actor Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi to play Dek. It’s also a bold decision to have him play this character entirely in a practical suit with a Predator mask on, speaking entirely in the Yautja language. Thia interacts with him in English, but he speaks in Yautja the entire time. Again, all of this just works, and I believe it’s because Trachtenberg is so confident in his understanding of this story and these characters, that he believes this is the right story to tell and he knows how to tell it. Thus we can sense that love for this franchise on screen, in every frame, in every part of the filmmaking. It also has more ambitious twists and turns in the third act, expanding the story above & beyond the buddy comedy, and delivering an entirely satisfying ending. The wolf pack reigns!

I’m looking forward to revisiting it again, but after my first viewing, it might just be the best Predator movie in this franchise after the 1987 original. Of course, this will be debated endlessly… Some still prefer Prey, which is unquestionably also an awesome movie. Some prefer Predator 2 where he rampages through New York City. I’m a sci-fi geek who grew up on Star Wars, so Badlands is exactly my jam. It’s hard sci-fi with clever choices throughout, taking the Yautja on an adventure where he needs to learn to be more than just a selfish warrior who only cares about kills. Of course, some may argue this is what the Predator character is & always shall be, but I disagree… Now is the time to take this character in new directions, to show us new dimensions, to offer us something new, and to remind us that being alone is not always a strength. It’s also vital to praise the badass score in Badlands, from composers Sarah Schachner (also Prey) & Benjamin Wallfisch. Right from the start, when the Yautja language chanting comes in with the dark theme, I knew we were in for one helluva good time. This movie rocks. I don’t care that it’s PG-13, I only care that it’s an entertaining, action-packed, thoughtful, entirely unique sci-fi movie and it is absolutely all of that and more.

Union Minister Deems HAQ As Bold, Calls It Close to Reality

by jummy84 November 7, 2025
written by jummy84

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has refused to stop the release of the film Haq, dismissing a petition filed by Shah Bano’s daughter. The court said the movie carries a clear disclaimer stating that it is a dramatized and fictional interpretation inspired by the 1985 Shah Bano Supreme Court judgment, not an exact biography of any real person. The judge also noted that details related to the case are already part of the public record, and once information enters the public domain, privacy over it no longer applies.

In the midst of this, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal reacted to the film, saying Haq brings forward what really happened during the Shah Bano case and also reveals how the Congress leadership at that time engaged in appeasement politics. His comments have added a fresh political edge to the film’s release, especially as it touches upon one of the most debated legal and social moments in India’s history.

The court further observed that the petition was filed at the eleventh hour, even though reports about the film’s script, shooting and teaser had been out for months. Since the petitioner did not first challenge the censor certificate, the court found no reason to interfere and dismissed the plea.

Haq, starring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam is releasing tomorrow. Directed by Suparn S Varma and backed by Junglee Pictures in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, the film explores a powerful real case that led to a landmark judgement by the Supreme Court. The censor board has cleared the film with zero cuts, granting it a UA certificate. It has also received a UA certificate from censor boards in the UAE, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

On Wednesday, November 5, Jayda Cheaves dropped a fresh photo dump on Instagram. She posed in what looked like her closet, serving up some serious curves. She’s clearly winter ready, topping off her look with fuzzy nude over-the-knee boots. The pics had the internet lit, with folks debating over whether her look was a hit or a miss.

The Internet Is Split Over Jadya’s Fit

Folks flooded The Shade Room’s comment section with their reactions. Some said Jayda gets a pass just because it’s her, but others weren’t feeling the fact that she mixed two different seasons in one look.

Jayda Gets Real About Recent Cosmetic Procedure

This isn’t the first time Jayda set the TL off. Back in July, she had fans talking after she opened up about getting a boob job. During a livestream, she told viewers she redid her breasts because they were “so spaced out.” The fashion and beauty boss also admitted that she rushed the surgery the first time and didn’t give her body enough time to fully heal.

“You’re supposed to wait six months before you get any type of surgery, and I rushed and went ahead and got my boobs done, and I lied to my doctor. So I didn’t even give my body time to heal, and in the process of that, I had just stopped breastfeeding, so my boobs were back saggy and they just did not heal correctly,” Jayda told viewers.

Dare To Look Inside The Taj Mahal’s Secret Chamber – Paresh Rawal’s Bold Dialogues In The Taj Story | Glamsham.com

The much-anticipated trailer of The Taj Story has finally been released, offering a first look at the upcoming courtroom drama that boldly ventures into one of India’s most debated historical controversies — the origins of the Taj Mahal.

Led by veteran actor Paresh Rawal, the film is written and directed by Tushar Amrish Goel and explores the clash between belief and historical documentation. Rawal stars as Vishnu Das, a local guide at the Taj Mahal, who embarks on a deeply personal mission to uncover what he claims is the “true” history of the monument. What begins as a quiet search soon spirals into a national controversy and legal battle, as Vishnu challenges long-accepted narratives about India’s most iconic structure.

The trailer sets the tone for an intense courtroom drama, filled with sharp exchanges and fiery confrontations. Zakir Hussain plays a key opposing counsel, clashing with Rawal in scenes that hint at ideological conflict, societal tension, and historical ambiguity. In a particularly striking moment, Vishnu Das suggests conducting a DNA test on the Taj Mahal — a dramatic representation of his relentless quest for answers.

Supporting the powerful lead performances are Amruta Khanvilkar, Sneha Wagh, and Namit Das, all playing pivotal roles. The film’s music is composed by Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dev Nath, enhancing the emotional and dramatic beats of the story.

Backed by Swarnim Global Services Pvt. Ltd. and CA Suresh Jha, with Vikas Radhesham as creative producer, The Taj Story presents itself as more than just a courtroom thriller. The filmmakers describe it as a “cinematic debate,” promising to challenge viewers to think critically about history, belief, and national identity.

The Taj Story is slated for theatrical release on October 31, 2025.

But fast-forward to now — Choppa’s skin is smooth, glowing, and clear, with a freshly shaven head and a calm, grounded vibe that fans couldn’t ignore. And, in a sentimental caption, the rapper shared: “All Praises To The Most High… HE is WHO RESTORES. I Must Be Doing Something Right!“

The TL Goes Up Over Choppa’s Glow-Up

As soon as NLE Choppa’s video hit The Shade Room’s Instagram, fans wasted no time flooding the comments. Then Instagram user @dweezy_u_crazy claimed, “Look like you just needed some water 😂”

Lastly, Instagram user @laladskincoach said, “Who’s the esthetician ????“

New Look, New Energy: Choppa’s Era Of Change

NLE Choppa’s glow-up isn’t just skin deep — it’s giving transformation from the inside out. The rapper shocked fans back in July after wiping his Instagram clean and debuting a new look that marked the start of a fresh chapter. In a post featuring two photos, Choppa sat in a barber’s chair with a cape draped over him, showing off his freshly shaved head against a wall filled with Tupac memorabilia — a powerful visual that had fans talking. The second photo revealed a shoebox filled with his cut hair and a handwritten note, symbolizing a moment of release and renewal. It’s clear this glow-up didn’t just start with clear skin — it started with shedding old layers and stepping into peace.

Dakota Johnson Opens Up About Her Bold Fashion Choices And Body Confidence | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 October 23, 2025
written by jummy84

Hollywood actress Dakota Johnson is no stranger to making headlines with her daring fashion statements, particularly her love for see-through dresses. In a recent interview with Vogue Germany, the 50 Shades of Grey star candidly discussed her fearless style and the confidence that fuels it.

When asked whether she ever worries about her “naked dresses” being too revealing or “too sexy,” Johnson replied without hesitation, “I really don’t care.” She went on to explain that her clothing choices are guided by how she feels, not by external opinions. “I’ve been able to wear some of the most beautiful dresses, and I feel beautiful in them, so I wear them,” she said, as reported by People.com.

The actress, who has frequently appeared on red carpets in sheer and figure-hugging ensembles, shared that not every outfit works for her. “It depends on the shape, the finish, the color, and everything else. So if I find a beautiful dress that I feel comfortable in, of course I want to wear it! And it’s fun to wear a sexy dress.”

Johnson also credited her confidence and comfort in her own skin to her mother, actress Melanie Griffith. Growing up, Johnson said she benefited from her mother’s openness about body image and self-love.

“My mom was just very open about the topic of bodies. She taught us how to take care of our bodies and love them, and that our bodies are beautiful,” Johnson said. The Victoria’s Secret fashion show may be over, but Sydney Sweeney is taking boudoir dressing off the runway and onto the red carpet.

Continuing promotion for Christy, her forthcoming biopic of the boxer Christy Martin, the actor touched down in the United Kingdom for the BFI London Film Festival, where she decided to step out of her comfort zone on the red carpet. Sweeney turned to Seán McGirr to fashion her a custom McQueen gown.

“We wanted to take Sydney in a bit of a new direction for this—something distinct from the more romantic and princess silhouettes she’s often gravitated toward in the past,” Sweeney’s stylist, Molly Dickson, tells Vogue. “What I love most about Sydney is her openness—she’s always game to experiment and evolve. This look was about stepping slightly outside her comfort zone, and McQueen brought that vision to life with such precision and strength.”
