“You and I have unfinished business.” “Baby, you ain’t kidding…” ⚔️ Lionsgate keeps revealing marketing promos for the upcoming Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair release this December. Another 30 second teaser + 2 posters below. This is the definitive, original version of the entire story that Quentin Tarantino envisioned over 20 years ago. As everyone knows, Tarantino’s brutal revenge saga Kill Bill was released in two parts: Kill Bill: Volume 1 in 2003 and Kill Bill: Volume 2 in 2004. Uma Thurman stars as The Bride – an assassin left for dead who miraculously survives then goes on a rampaging revenge tour to get back at her old boss and all of his assassins. Both of them are some of my favorite movies ever made. Also starring Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox, Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah, Gordon Liu as Pai Mei, Michael Parks, and David Carradine as “Bill”. Presented exactly as Tarantino intended, complete with a never-before-seen anime sequence, The Whole Blood Affair unites Vol. 1 & 2 into a single, unrated epic. The highly anticipated release marks one of the rare times that the entire epic has been presented as a single, combined film. It’s going to be playing on screens nationwide – a full 4-1/2 hours (with intermission). Get your tickets.

Uma Thurman stars as The Bride, left for dead after her former boss and lover Bill ambushes her wedding rehearsal, shooting her in the head and stealing her unborn child. To exact her vengeance, she must first hunt down the four remaining members of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad before confronting Bill himself. With its operatic scope, relentless action, and iconic style, The Whole Bloody Affair stands as one of cinema’s definitive revenge sagas—rarely shown in its complete form, and now presented with a classic intermission. Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is written and directed by acclaimed American filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, his fourth (and fifth) feature film at the time after making Reservoir Dogs (1992), Pulp Fiction (1994), Jackie Brown (1997) before. Based on the character of “The Bride” created by Q&U. Produced by Lawrence Bender. The two films originally opened in October 2003 and April 2004. My Bloody Valentine announce support acts for 2025 UK and Ireland tour

by jummy84 October 25, 2025
written by jummy84

My Bloody Valentine have announced the support acts for their upcoming dates in the UK and Ireland.

In March, the band confirmed that they would be playing their first UK headline tour in over 10 years, with huge dates at Dublin’s 3Arena (their first non-festival show in their home country since 1992), Manchester’s Aviva Studios, London’s Wembley Arena and Glasgow’s OVO Hydro in November.

Now, they have revealed that they will be joined by J Mascis for the London and Glasgow shows on November 25 and 27 respectively, while Maria Somerville will open for them in Dublin and Manchester on November 22 and 24.

Tickets have been on sale since the shows were announced in March and you can find any remaining tickets here.

Mascis is the singer and guitarist with Dinosaur Jr. and has been an acquaintance of My Bloody Valentine for a long time. The two bands played together on the 1992 Rollercoaster Tour, an offshoot of the Lollapalooza Festival.

In 2023, MBV’s Kevin Shields joined Dinosaur Jr. on stage in London’s The Garage, playing songs from each other’s back catalogues, as well as The Cure’s ‘Just Like Heaven’.

Somerville, meanwhile, is an Irish shoegaze and folk artist that released her second album ‘Luster’ in April this year via 4AD.

These shows will be My Bloody Valentine’s first live performances in nearly seven years, since they toured North America in 2018. They will also be playing at Primavera Sound in June next year, alongside headliners The Cure, Gorillaz, The xx, Doja Cat and Massive Attack.

Their latest album was the 2013 comeback record ‘mbv’. In the time since, the members revealed in 2021 that they were working on two new albums for Domino, and Shields said that the first would contain “warm and melodic” material while the second would be more experimental.

Outside of the band, Shields has also gone on to share solo material, dropping it in a subtle way by concealing it within his range of custom guitar pedals.

The Whole Bloody Affair for December Release

by jummy84 October 2, 2025
written by jummy84

If the timeline’s got you seeking a channel for your latent blood lust, then put down the sharp stick and prepare to smile at last. For the very first time, Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill films will be presented together for nationwide theatrical screenings.

Debuting December 5th, the aptly-titled Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair has been edited and reworked into one full-length, fully unrated film. The release is actually a wee bit of revisionist history, as Tarantino had originally wanted Kill Bill to be seen as one epic, oversized cinematic experience.

“I wrote and directed it as one movie — and I’m so glad to give the fans the chance to see it as one movie,” Tarantino said in a statement. “The best way to see Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is at a movie theater in glorious 70mm or 35mm. Blood and guts on a big screen in all its glory!”

So, how exactly does Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair work to combine the two films? Per a press release, this cut removes Volume 1‘s cliffhanger ending as well as Volume 2‘s introductory recap. From there, the film features a brand-new, 7.5-minute “anime/animated” sequence (that I hope is even more action with the Crazy 88). The press release goes on to say that while the film is intended for release across most major markets, theaters will still either screen 70mm or 35mm.

Fun fact: Tarantino has a rather interesting history with re-cuts. On the more innocuous end of things, his original vision for True Romance, centered around a new ending, plays like a decidedly different flick in some key ways. On the other end of the spectrum, he garnered noticeable controversy in October 2019 when he refused to re-tool Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for Chinese audiences. (Apparently, Chinese film officials raised concerns with the “caricature”-like depiction of actor/martial artist Bruce Lee.) Tarantino claimed he didn’t want to kowtow to the censorship, and thus the film was banned in China outright.

Earlier this year, Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 received standalone physical 4K releases. Find copies here.

The Whole Bloody Affair’ to Hit Theaters

by jummy84 October 2, 2025

What is Quentin Tarantino‘s greatest movie? Before you answer, we’re going to wager you haven’t seen it — namely because it’s never been released. Not really. Back in July, IndieWire declared Tarantino’s best film to be “Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair,” which combines both theatrically released parts of “Kill Bill” and was Tarantino’s original vision as one complete movie.

After a handful of screenings at Tarantino’s own Vista Theater, Lionsgate is now giving “The Whole Bloody Affair” a proper release in theaters for the first time since it played Cannes in 2006. “Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair” will open in theaters from Lionsgate on December 5, 2025.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - SEPTEMBER 30: (L-R) Joachim Trier, Elle Fanning, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Renate Reinsve and Stellan Skarsgård attend the "Sentimental Value" Red Carpet during the 63rd New York Film Festival at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center on September 30, 2025 in New York City. (Photo by Theo Wargo/WireImage)

The 258-minute long epic will be screened in 70mm and 35mm in select markets, it has a 7½-minute anime sequence that was never in the originally released films, and it removes the cliffhanger ending from Vol. 1 and the recap that began Vol. 2. It’s one truly epic film that if it’s not the best film he’s ever made we wrote is “certainly the most movie” ever made.

“I wrote and directed it as one movie — and I’m so glad to give the fans the chance to see it as one movie,” Tarantino said in a statement. “The best way to see ‘Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair’ is at a movie theater in glorious 70mm or 35mm. Blood and guts on a big screen in all its glory!”

When seeing it all as one piece, we wrote that “Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair” plays like Sergio Leone classics like “Once Upon a Time in the West” or “Once Upon a Time in America” that combine elements of Hollywood genre movies but breathe new life into them.

“While the concept is straightforward, the execution is remarkably complex. Tarantino spends over four hours teasing out every narrative, stylistic, and philosophical possibility raised by the premise before he strips it all back down again at the end and reveals the movie was about something simple — a mother getting back to her daughter — after all,” IndieWire’s review of “The Whole Bloody Affair” reads.

If you haven’t seen “Kill Bill,” it tells the story of The Bride (Uma Thurman), an assassin left for dead at her wedding who seeks revenge on her former boss and lover and needs to hunt down the four remaining members of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. The film stars Uma Thurman, Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox, Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah, Gordon Liu, Michael Parks, and David Carradine as “Bill.” The film is produced by Lawrence Bender, written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, based on the character of “The Bride” created by Q&U.

The release of “The Whole Bloody Affair” comes as we await more news of whatever Tarantino’s 10th feature film — and presumably last — will be. We will be getting more of Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth in a “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood” film that David Fincher is directing based on Tarantino’s script. That movie will be released by Netflix. And we’re also soon getting a book series that will explore the “making of” behind all of Tarantino’s movies. He also in a recent podcast interview explained why he moved on from what was meant to be his 10th film, “The Movie Critic.”

Lionsgate also manages the library distribution rights to many of Tarantino’s other films, so it’s possible we get other special re-releases in the future. Those include “Reservoir Dogs,” “Jackie Brown,” “Inglourious Basterds,” “Django Unchained,” “The Hateful Eight,” and “Death Proof.”

Both the xx and My Bloody Valentine have been inactive since 2018, while the Cure have only played three times since wrapping an extensive 2023 tour. Gorillaz will be promoting their guest-packed new album, The Mountain, and return to Primavera following a headlining appearance in 2022.

Also set to appear at next year’s festival are Peggy Gou, Skrillex, PinkPantheress, Mac DeMarco, Lola Young, Big Thief, Little Simz, Rilo Kiley, Men I Trust, Slowdive, Father John Misty, Role Model, Blood Orange, Alex G, Carl Cox, Panda Bear, Wet Leg, Matmos, Merzbow, Knocked Loose and Ravyn Lenae.

Beyond the festival, Primavera will also offer Primavera Pro — a four-day gathering of panels and programming with music industry professionals. Click here for tickets, which go on sale to the general public on Sept. 29.

Primavera earned plaudits in 2025 for its all-female headliner lineup, consisting of Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and Charli xcx.

Mamoru Hosoda Returns with a Bloody Anime Hamlet

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

It’s been said that several filmmakers at Venice are showing up with their “state of the world” movies. Whether that’s Luca Guadagnino with his take on cancel culture, Yorgos Lanthimos satirizing alt-right-style radicalization, or Kathryn Bigelow depicting our mutually-assured madness in nightmarish fashion, many of our most famed directors seem to be looking at a world in flux and asking: “How did we get here?”

Hosoda, a former Studio Ghibli animator who went freelance and has since become one of Japan’s most successful auteurs, is no different. His last film, 2021’s “Belle”, was a sci-fi adaptation of “Beauty and the Beast.” For his latest act, Hosoda hasn’t traveled too far from that baroque fantasy setting, which was already more idealized than the relative normality of his mainstream breakthrough hit (and Oscar nominee) “Mirai.” “Scarlet” is a loose but clearly intended rendering of Hamlet, with all of its castles and knights, ghosts and traitorous uncles — and lots that isn’t in Shakespeare’s play, too.

"Street Fighter V"

One of the first lines of dialogue is Claudius (Kôji Yakusho) plotting the murder of his brother; “I have long dreamed of pouring poison into his ears”, he says, but the King is too popular and Claudius must instead frame him for plotting with a neighboring country, thus enabling his execution. Scarlet (Mana Ashida), a young princess, watches on distraught as her father’s ruthless executioners seem to relish in their task. After Claudius poisons her, Scarlet begins her exile into the “Otherlands,” a sort of purgatory, where she plots her revenge alongside a horde of people who feel similarly wronged by their too-short lives.

But this is a Hosoda movie, so things will become considerably more complicated from there. Much like Mirai’s acceptance that he’s no longer the man of the house, Scarlet’s most important journey is one of self-discovery — a quest far from the violent quest for justice undertaken by the original Prince of Denmark. But there is some of that, too. The Otherlands is a community of struggling people from all places and time periods, who can nevertheless understand each other despite their differences. Scarlet’s journey through them will lead her to cross paths with a variety of characters, starting with Hijiri (Masaki Okada), a nurse from modern-day Japan who refuses to convince that he should have died. Soon thereafter, Scarlet encounters a little girl who says that if she were a princess, she would spend her life making sure the world was livable for little girls like her. It’s enough for Scarlet to realize that vengeance might be a bit self-centered; there are bigger fish to fry.

The politics of the lost masses without food or a home is not far from James Gunn’s “Superman”, another well-intended but fairly vague expression of struggling peoples and the evil rulers depriving them of life and dignity. Scarlet’s venture is even more consciously informed by “Dune”, whose heir to the throne is radicalized to embrace the cause of his former antagonists. Hosoda’s film poses a similar question to Scarlet as Frank Herbert’s saga did to Paul Atreides: How much is this story all about her? Hijiri is a paragon of selflessness who teaches Scarlet that living for others is the only fulfilling way. Hijiri even questions her ruthless approach to warriors sent by her uncle to finish her off, telling Scarlet: “The ultimate warrior fires invisible arrows from an invisible bow.” That isn’t really Scarlet’s style, and it’s probably too much to ask to put the weapons down while she’s actively being hunted. But Scarlet does realize she has the power to improve the lives of all the people in the Otherlands — and perhaps even stop some of them ending up there.

Unfortunately, Hosoda’s ideas in “Scarlet” never get more incisive or interesting than that. There’s an over-sweet centre at the middle of it. Its ending is a feast of sincerity that, not just tedious in its own right, feels unrepresentative of the irreverent character with whom we’ve just spent two long hours. Despite bloody violence throughout, “Scarlet” lacks the edge that would make this culture clash of seminal western tale and Japanese art form as memorable or significant as it ought to be. The first few minutes of the film are a breathless, almost wordless introduction to the Otherlands, with Scarlet trapped under rotting hands clamoring to keep her there. But Hosoda’s expressionism virtually disappears thereafter, and a dry sense of order exerts itself once the story is spirited back towards Elsinore.

To that end, “Scarlet” amounts to a frustrating waste of animating and directorial skill for the price of an excessively ordinary story. The sheer scale of Hosoda’s success may have softened his storytelling instincts, even if the aesthetics are occasionally remarkable. Having written his past four movies alone, it may be time for Hosoda to consider collaborating once again. And maybe not with Shakespeare.

Grade: C+

“Scarlet” premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival. Sony will release the film in U.S. theaters on Friday, December 12.
