Aftershock 2025 Fest Shakes Sacramento with blink-182, Deftones, Korn, BMTH

The 2025 Aftershock festival took place in Sacramento from Thursday, October 2nd, through Sunday, October 5th. Stretching four days and spread out on four stages, this year’s festival once again had something for everyone, as Danny Wimmer Presents continues to expand and diversify the lineup. Although the weather went from pouring rain to unseasonably warm in the blink of an eye, that didn’t stop festival-goers from enjoying every minute of the festival.

Day 1 was headlined by pop-punk stalwarts blink-182, who last topped the bill at Aftershock in 2019. They were the band that most people came to see, and they did not disappoint, playing a 90-minute, 22-song set, highlighted by a cover of Descendents’ “Hope.” Good Charlotte closed out the Shockwave stage right before blink-182, while other highlights from the day included High on Fire, Testament, and the recently reunited Acid Bath, who drew a huge audience over on the Coors Light stage.

Deftones headlined Day 2, playing a near two-hour set to their hometown, and had the grounds around the Aftershock stage jam-packed. Highlights included “Digital Bath,” “Hole in the Earth” and “Around the Fur,” but it was “Cherry Waves” that had the fans most pumped up. A Perfect Circle had the audience singing along to every word, while Lamb of God also drew a massive crowd, delivering the live debut of their new single “Sepsis.” Turnstile and Knocked Loose brought the hardcore to Aftershock, while Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson’s set was among the other highlights of the day.

Day 3 was headlined by Korn, who were, as always, one of the most anticipated bands of the entire festival. They played an electrifying set for their fans, some of whom were waiting up against the barricade all day in the sweltering sun. Gojira were another highlight on the Aftershock stage, while other standouts included Scowl, Spy, Slaughter to Prevail, and Trash Talk.

The fourth and final day of Aftershock saw Machine Head, In This Moment, and Mudvayne play before big crowds in the beating sun, but it was festival closers Bring Me the Horizon who were the main attraction. The UK band played a near 90-minute set which saw them run through 15 songs, including anthems like “Shadow Moses” and “Throne.”

By the time it was all said and done, Aftershock once again showed why it’s become the West Coast’s biggest hard rock and metal festival. Every year. the organizers seem to pull off something even bigger and better than the previous year, and with the rumors already starting to circulate about next year, it looks like the 2026 edition is not to be missed.

Riot Fest 2025 Was a Celebration with Green Day, Blink-182: Review + Photos

Last week, Coachella dropped its 2025 lineup and, unsurprisingly, it sparked quite a bit of discourse. Echoing sentiments lobbed at Lollapalooza in previous years, many felt like Coachella’s three pop star headliners marked a shift away from the festival’s alternative roots. Luckily, there’s a festival in the Windy City that has dug its feet into the ground, remained independent, and kept the ethos of its founding days intact: Riot Fest.

The punk-leaning event celebrated its 20th anniversary this past weekend at Douglass Park in Chicago, boasting a pop punk holy trinity of headliners in Blink-182, Weezer, and Green Day, as well as an impressive undercard consisting of both scene veterans and exciting newbies. The whole shebang was certainly grander in scale than Riot Fest’s earliest editions, but its spunky core remains — RIOT FEST SUCKS, as they say. Acts like The Effigies, Alkaline Trio, Smoking Popes, Bad Religion, and a host of others were even ripped right from lineups of Riot Fest’s past; say what you want about punk rockers, but if Riot Fest has proven anything over the past two decades, it’s that they’re remarkably consistent.

With a deep lineup, an everlasting spirit of rebellion, and the final payoff for years of John Stamos jokes, this year’s edition was a celebration to be proud of. Better yet, it was a celebration that was damn fun to take part in.

For those looking to relive the three days of festivities, or who missed out on all of the hoopla, here’s everything that went down at Riot Fest 2025 (plus, scroll on for a photo gallery of action shots).

Blink-182 were joined by the Descendents’ Stephen Egerton and reunited with Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba at Riot Fest 2025 – watch below.

The 20th anniversary of the punk festival took place this weekend in Chicago’s Douglass Park, with Green Day and Weezer topping the bill on the other two days.

During their Friday night headline show (September 19), Blink-182 were joined by longtime Descendents guitarist Egerton for a cover of the latter band’s classic 1982 track ‘Hope’, from their influential debut album ‘Milo Goes To College’. The song has been a regular presence on Blink setlists in 2025, although before this year they had not played it since 2003.

Watch fan-captured footage of the cover here:

Elsewhere in the set, Blink were joined by Alkaline Trio frontman Skiba, who was also a member of Blink-182 as a replacement for Tom DeLonge from 2015 to 2022. They played ‘Bored To Death’ – the first song the band released with Skiba as a co-vocalist, and a track that has appeared on Blink setlists sporadically in 2025. Watch here:

Blink-182 played:

‘The Rock Show’
‘First Date’
‘Josie’
‘Anthem Part Two’
‘Online Songs’
‘M+M’s’
‘Fuck Face’
‘Dumpweed’
‘Feeling This’
‘Down’
‘Turpentine’
‘Bored To Death’ (with Matt Skiba)
‘Wishing Well’
‘Stay Together For The Kids’
‘Roller Coaster’
‘Dance With Me’
‘I Miss You’
‘More Than You Know’
‘Hope’ (with Stephen Egerton)
‘What’s My Age Again?’
‘All The Small Things’
‘Dammit’

Alkaline Trio have been the opening band on Blink-182’s current ‘Missionary Impossible’ tour, which kicked off in late August and has dates remaining across the country before its conclusion in Palm Desert, California on October 4. See all the dates and ticket information here.

When DeLonge left Blink in 2015, Skiba stepped in on guitar and vocals, recording two albums: 2016’s ‘California’ and 2019’s ‘Nine’. Upon DeLonge’s return to the band, Skiba departed, but he did join them again for ‘Bored To Death’ during their Los Angeles wildfire benefit concert earlier this year.

After DeLonge rejoined, he wrote an open letter to Skiba in which he said, “Hi Matt, Tom DeLonge here,” he wrote. “I wanted to take a minute and say thank you for all that you have done to keep the band thriving in my absence. I think you are enormously talented (I still love and listen to your band to this day).”

For his part, Skiba said he was “truly happy” for his former bandmates and DeLonge.

Speaking to NME about joining Blink-182, Skiba said he got a lot of hate for stepping into DeLonge’s shoes, but “it only lasted until we started playing shows.”

He added: “The overwhelming amount of support and graciousness the fans have shown me overpowers any hate or shit-talking. It feels like our band – Mark, Travis, me and the fans. It’s not the same band without Tom but it has the same name, and I think there’s a good reason for that.”

As for Descendents, they played a joint UK and European tour earlier this year with Circle Jerks.

The ‘Missionary Impossible’ tour will continue tonight in Tampa, Florida. It will then make stops in cities including Atlanta, Charleston, and Kansas City. You can find any remaining tickets here.

This tour follows their 2024 world tour and their 2023 album ‘One More Time…’, their first album in over a decade with the original trio of Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker after DeLonge left in 2015.

Back in May, the band’s Mark Hoppus spoke to NME about his band’s past rivalry with Green Day, dating back to their shared 2002 ‘Pop Disaster Tour’.

Speaking to NME about the strange competitiveness that the two bands felt towards each other during the tour, Hoppus said: “That was very strange because I grew up listening to Green Day. I literally waited for the day that ‘Dookie’ [1994] came out, and I was in line waiting to buy it.”

“I was a huge fan, then we’re touring with them, but it was a weird thing where Green Day were dipping at the time and Blink were ascendent. We were billed as co-headliners, but Blink were closing every night, and that was a strange sensation for us. Headlining over your idols is a little strange.”

He later added: “We showed up, we thought we were cool, we had a Number One record [‘Take Off Your Pants And Jacket’], we were the first punk band to ever have a Number One record, Green Day were on their way down for a little bit.

“We walked in thinking we were hot shit and Green Day walked in ready to fight – musically of course, they were super cool to us the whole time.”

In the same interview, Hoppus also opened up about his role in “saving the world from Saddam Hussein” and the chance he once had to “make out” with The Cure’s Robert Smith.

Last month, Blink-182’s Travis Barker came together with Tool drummer Danny Carey and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith for a drum-off at Black Sabbath’s final ever show.

It took place midway through the night, and saw the drummers from Tool, Blink-182 and Red Hot Chili Peppers flex their skills while covering the Sabbath track ‘Symptom Of The Universe’.
