Ayo Edebiri and Milan’s Chicest Are Swapping Black Trousers for Brown

One thing you should know about me is that I’m very self-aware. I’m always happy to admit when I’m wrong or open up about my shopping obsession. As for the latter, lately, all I’ve been thinking about is autumn fashion and the pieces and trends I want to invest in—and those I don’t. One fashion decision I’ve recently made is that I’ll be replacing my black trousers with brown pairs. Why, you ask? Well, they look more expensive than black ones, and every chic dresser I see these days is wearing them.

For example, during Milan Fashion Week, I noticed several insiders wearing brown trousers to the runway shows. From brown pleated wide-leg trousers to corduroy jeans, these styles lined the city streets, often paired with preppy polos, button-up tops, barn jackets, or classic blazers. Their footwear choices included sleek loafers, open-toe kitten-heel sandals, and pointed, closed-toe slingbacks. Not to mention Ayo Edebiri’s New York outing this week, which saw the actor swap a samey black suit for a decadent chocolate brown alternative, complete with brown wide-leg trousers.

Regardless of the silhouette, the neutral hue adds warm undertones to an outfit, making it appear warmer, softer and most importantly richer.

For more proof that brown trousers will be everywhere this autumn and winter—and that you should choose a pair over black—Google Trends shows that “how to style brown” is now searched more than ever. Additionally, Trendanalytics reports that searches for all things brown have increased by 24% in market adoption. The numbers don’t lie. With that in mind, keep scrolling to see how the style set is wearing brown trousers for fall 2025 and find the best pairs to shop along the way.

Rani Mukerji Recalls Father’s Heartbreak Over National Award Snub For Black

by jummy84 September 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Rani Mukerji recently opened up about a deeply personal moment in her career—the time she didn’t win the National Award for her performance in Black(2005), despite high expectations. Speaking at an event in Delhi, the actress shared how her father, veteran filmmaker Ram Mukerji, reacted to the outcome, and how it shaped her perspective on fame and recognition.

The critically acclaimed film Black, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, featured Rani in a demanding role as Michelle, a deaf, mute, and blind woman. At just 25 years old, Rani delivered a performance that was widely praised, and many believed she was the frontrunner for the National Award for Best Actress that year.

“There was chatter that I would win,” Rani recalled. “I gave my all in Black. I was just 25 at the time, and I poured everything into that role. But when I didn’t win, that’s when my blinkers came on. I realised that even when you do your best work, things might not always go your way.”

Rani shared that the disappointment wasn’t hers alone. “I have to be honest and tell you that my father was very disappointed. My baba was heartbroken that I didn’t win. So was Sanjay, the director of the film,” she said.

Despite the letdown, Rani emphasized the importance of perspective and timing. “When things are meant to happen, they happen. The way India and my fans cheered for me—it couldn’t have been better than that.”

Black was co-written, directed, and co-produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film also starred Amitabh Bachchan, Ayesha Kapur, Shernaz Patel, and Dhritiman Chatterjee. It was inspired by the life and writings of Helen Keller, focusing on the intense journey of a differently-abled woman and her teacher, who eventually develops Alzheimer’s disease. The film went on to win several National Awards, including Best Actor for Amitabh Bachchan, Best Feature Film in Hindi, and Best Costume Design. However, Rani’s exclusion from the winners’ list was widely discussed at the time.

Fast forward to 2023, Rani finally received her first National Award for Best Actress for her powerful performance in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. Directed by Ashima Chibber, the film is inspired by the real-life story of Sagarika Chakraborty, an Indian mother who fought against Norwegian child welfare services to reunite with her children in 2011.

Reflecting on her long journey, Rani said that awards are not always the final measure of an artist’s worth. “It’s about the connection you make with your audience and the impact your work leaves behind,” she noted.

Looking ahead, Rani is set to return to the big screen in a bold, action-packed role with Mardaani 3. Directed by Abhiraj Minawala, the third instalment of the popular Mardaani franchise is scheduled to release on February 27, 2026. The film promises to showcase Rani once again as the fierce and determined cop Shivani Shivaji Roy, a character that has already earned her widespread acclaim.

Rani’s journey, marked by highs and lows, stands as a testament to her resilience and unwavering dedication to her craft. Her story not only reflects the unpredictable nature of awards and recognition but also highlights the emotional investments made by artists and their families behind the scenes.

Watch: Proof of Concept for Genndy Tartakovsky’s ‘Black Night’ Film

Meet the Black Knight. Animation master Genndy Tartakovsky has revealed a first look proof-of-concept promo for a project he has been working on. Tartakovsky is well known as one of the modern masters of animation, creator of “Dexter’s Laboratory”, “Samurai Jack”, “Sym-Bionic Titan”, “Star Wars: Clone Wars”, “Primal”, and “Unicorn: Warriors Eternal”. His most recent movie was Fixed, which Netflix picked up and released this year after the studio dropped it. He has another project that is in limbo as well. Black Night is a project that Genndy was developing with Sony Pictures Animation. The intro: “After failing to protect his king, a highly skilled and faithful knight must transform into the Black Knight to save the kingdom.” Set during the 14th century, this suit of armor is actually controlled by someone inside. Genndy explains Sony is unsure if there’s an audience for it, so he went rogue and posted this clip on his Instagram hoping to show people and get a reaction from potential audience members… So – would you watch a movie about this guy?

Black Night Test

Thanks to Twitter for the tip on this video debuting. Genndy Tartakovsky explains more about this Black Knight project via his IG: “Well, this might get me in trouble… But gotta try a new strategy. About 6 years ago we started development on a more adult animated action movie, The Black Knight. We developed it for a few years, the studio liked what we were doing but they were unsure if there is an audience that would go see it theatrically. We made a down and dirty test, and still no go. So to try something different I thought I would share the test to see if it can get a ground swell of excitement that would change the studio’s mind. I won’t share the details of the story except for one element, our Knight Armor is 20 feet high and controlled by a knight inside using ropes, pulleys, and levers. The setting is around the 14th century… Anyways, I’ve already said too much…” The Black Knight info lists Genndy Tartakovsky as director, with Patrick Burleigh and Tartakovsky as the writers. Maybe they will let them finish the movie one day? Stay tuned… Thoughts?

The 3 Black Designers Using Tech In Their Designs

And the woman behind Loomia is: Madison Maxey, who started it out of a desire to make electronics disappear into clothing, so the fabric does the work without feeling like gear. Before Loomia, she experimented with conductive inks, computational design, and patterning electronics with designers and engineers. LEL is now mostly used in medical, outdoor, automotive, and wellness fields, proving that wearable tech can be something that’s used, lived in, and trusted every day, by everyone. Case in point: A recent collaboration with L.L. Bean, where LEL was sewn or attached inside of outdoor gear to report wear behavior: temperature, wash, count, and usage patterns. The versatility of the technology shows how seamlessly it can be folded into existing brand identities and products. Loomia isn’t just for Loomia —  it’s scalable and transferable, and that’s its real strength.

Scarlett Johansson Proves You Really Can Mix Brown and Black

The key two pairing to shades of the same color is mixing textures. In Johansson’s case, her leather coat stands in contrast to her satin pants, alleviating some of the tension between the two competing shades.

Julianne Moore in Milan.

Still not convinced that neutral maxxing is A Thing? Look no further for confirmation than Julianne Moore, who stepped out the same day wearing a brown leather coat over a black T-shirt, black trousers, and pointed-toe black booties.

The chocolate syrup-colored topper adds a warmth to the look, while also complementing Moore’s woven Bottega Veneta bag, which comes in a slightly cooler brown color. Though both pieces are leather, the intrecciato texture contrasts her supple leather coat, breaking up the browns.

All this is to say, yes, you have our permission to add all the brown coats, bags, pants, and tops to your cart. It’s what Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore would have wanted.

John Legend Honored At 2025 Black Music Action Coalition Gala: Photos

by jummy84 September 21, 2025
written by jummy84

The 2025 Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC) Gala brought musicians, executives, journalists, and activists together for a common cause. For the fifth annual event, hundreds gathered at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA., to recognize the important work done by the organization as well as to fund and empower its future efforts. BMAC was founded in 2020 and, since its inception, has distributed over $4 million in direct economic relief, established over 200 paid internships and job placements, reached more than 5,500 students, and mentored over 500 emerging music artists and industry professionals.

“Many would think that the work and the progress that happened in 2020 was not effective, but it’s actually the complete opposite. The reason why we are feeling this sort of federal attack on diversity and inclusion is because of the impact that was made in 2020. So this is not the time to retreat, but the time to double and triple down on those commitments, and the music industry has always challenged this country and the world to live up to its potential, and so that’s what inspires us,” explained BMAC cofounder and CEO Willie “Prophet” Stiggers on the red carpet ahead of the event.

“BMAC might have formed in 2020, but we come from a long tradition of the entertainment industry being able to be a powerful platform to advance these conversations, and over the next five years, we are going to be as committed as we ever been,” as he continued to relay organization plans to expand its advocacy into global territory.

In all its elegance, the 2025 Gala added John Legend, Irving Azoff, Sherrese Clarke / HarbourView Equity Partners, Kai Cenat and Apple & Apple Music, and Primary Wave Music to its growing list of esteemed honorees in its five-year history. The event kicked off with a four-course dinner and musical selections performed by the 1500 Or Nothing musical ensemble. After a call for donations at the fundraising event, with the largest public commitment being $10,000, host Mickey Guyton took the stage to perform “Black Like Me.”

She was then joined by her co-host, Kenny Burns, who shifted attention to current events with lighthearted quips about Jimmy Kimmel being suspended indefinitely at ABC, accompanied by a brief snippet of YG and Nipsey Hussle’s politically-charged “FDT.” While the event featured first-time introductions, well overdue reunions, dancing, and a performance by Earth, Wind & Fire, all in attendance were united on the mission. Guests included Tyrese, Cash Cobain, Estelle, Eric Benét, and more.

During his time on stage, John Legend shared a passionate speech, bringing Burns’ opening remarks full circle.

“Progress isn’t guaranteed. Power doesn’t give itself away, and truth-telling doesn’t come without a cause. We’re watching it happen in real time. Our government is kidnapping and disappearing our friends and neighbors. People [are] taking their kids to school, serving food in the park. And then they’re flooding our streets with militarized soldiers, war fighters, to silence those who dare to speak out. We’re watching the richest people on earth get richer while our government takes from the poorest children in the world,” remarked the Ohio native as he accepted the BMAC Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award presented by Babyface.

“We’re watching journalists, truth-tellers, get punished for doing their jobs. Just this week, the Washington Post fired a black woman journalist, Karen Attiah, for simply quoting the exact words of the President’s favorite podcaster,” in reference to Charlie Kirk.

He continued, “We are living in a time where truth-telling comes with consequences, a time where progress is reversed, facts are distorted, and those who dare to speak up are punished. But every step forward we’ve ever taken in this country, every single win began with somebody telling the truth,” adding, “That’s what Nina Simone understood in 1963 when she sat down at her piano in a moment of fury and courage. And that’s the tradition I choose to walk in.”

Filmfare Flashback: When Sharmila Tagore Took Home The Black Lady for Her Role in Aradhana

by jummy84 September 19, 2025
written by jummy84

As Filmfare nears its 70th edition, we take head back to 1970, to the 17th Filmfare Awards. On 11 May 1970, Bombay (now Mumbai) saw the stars of Hindi cinema gather to celebrate films from 1969. Among the biggest winners that night was Aradhana, a romantic drama directed by Shakti Samanta.
Aradhana was released on 7 November 1969 in Hindi. It starred Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore in lead roles. The story mixes romance, sacrifice, identity, and strong emotions. Vandana (Sharmila Tagore) falls in love with Arun (Rajesh Khanna), who is an Air Force pilot. After Arun’s death in a crash, Vandana must face stigma, raise her son against odds, even when forced to give him up. She then becomes his caretaker later in life without revealing she is his mother. Over time, the film shows her silent strength and love.
At the 17th Filmfare Awards, Aradhana led the nominations with 9 nods. It won Best Film, and Sharmila Tagore won her first (and only) Best Actress award for her role as Vandana. Meanwhile, Rajesh Khanna was nominated for Best Actor for Aradhana, but the award went to Ashok Kumar for Aashirwad.

Other highlights: Anokhi Raat won four Filmfare awards, including Best Screenplay and Best Dialogue. Aradhana also gained praise for its music: songs like Mere Sapno Ki Rani became iconic. The film quickly became a blockbuster, not just in India, but also in the Soviet Union. It marked the rise of Rajesh Khanna as a superstar, and it firmly established Sharmila Tagore’s status among leading actresses.

Looking back to the 17th Filmfare Awards, Aradhana remains a landmark, not just for awards, but for stories that touch the heart. As Filmfare returns with new celebrations, it’s worth remembering how films like Aradhana shaped the legacy, melding romance, strength, music, and unforgettable performances.

Actively Black Turns Runway Into Living Tribute Of Civil Rights Icons

“This is not a fashion show” became the perfect mantra as Actively Black founder Lanny Smith closed out New York Fashion Week with a cultural statement that stretched far beyond couture.

On Friday (Sept. 12), the brand — in partnership with Mielle Organics — transformed Sony Hall into a living archive of Black history and creativity. What unfolded was part runway, part history lesson and a night filled with emotions, standing ovations, and rare sightings from those who made history and continue the lineage of Civil Rights greats.

The red carpet alone set the tone as Lauryn Hill, Dapper Dan, Tyrese, Ghostface Killah, Naturi Naughton, Dascha Polanco and more attended, adding to the cultural gravity of the evening. Aside from the models rocking athleisure and swim suits that captivated streetwear lovers, it was the Civil rights moment that was the highlight of the night.

Sharing the runway were Dr. Bernice A. King and Ilyasah Shabazz — daughters of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X — alongside activists Fred Hampton Jr. and Fredricka Newton, each wearing pieces that paid tribute to their family legacies.

Civil rights photographer Cecil J. Williams followed, striding in a hoodie emblazoned with the historic image of him drinking from a “Whites Only” fountain. Ruby Bridges, the first Black child to desegregate an all-white elementary school, drew a standing ovation with her walk, while Olympic legends Tommie Smith and John Carlos — whose raised fists in 1968 in an enduring symbol of protest — were also honored. Rounding out the moment, Ben Haith, designer of the Juneteenth flag, brought the banner of freedom to the runway.

Other standout moments included appearances by Bob Marley’s grandchildren and Lisane Basquiat, sister of the late Jean-Michel Basquiat, alongside a heartfelt tribute to Michael Jackson. The evening also celebrated Black women through the “Black Women Are Superheroes” collection, featuring trailblazers like Valeisha Butterfield Jones and Bozoma Saint John. Terrence J also took the stage to introduce the HBCU-inspired collection, while fellow 106 & Park alums AJ and Free engaged the crowd. Adding to the energy, the iconic Harlem Globetrotters delivered an electrifying performance, joined by dynamic dancers from both New York City and Los Angeles.

Oh, and Fast Life Yungstaz also gave a special performance of the cultural anthem, “Swag Surf.”

Founder Lanny Smith summed the evening up perfectly: “Me being pro-Black doesn’t mean I’m anti-anything else. Tonight was about honoring our ancestors, uplifting our communities, and reminding the world that our stories, our innovation, and our style are indispensable to the global culture.”

The finale brought it all back to the show’s purpose of love and admiration as Smith and his partner Bianca Winslow revealed they’re expecting a baby boy this December.
