Social Media Reacts To Her Thoughts On Billionaires

Billie Eilish wants billionaires to open their wallets for those in need! The Grammy and Oscar winner didn’t mince words while calling out the wealthy in a now-viral speech. She popped off on Wednesday night (October 29), leaving an impression on fans online and sparking media headlines.

What Did Billie Eilish Say To Billionaires In Her Speech?

According to the Associated Press, Billie made her statements while accepting the music award at this year’s WSJ Magazine Innovator Awards. While she spoke of her own riches, she also challenged not only the existence of billionaires but what they’re doing for those in need. Her audience included plenty of elite folks, from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan to ‘Star Wars’ creator George Lucas.

“We’re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark and people need empathy and help more than, kind of, ever, especially in our country,” Eilish said. She added, “I’d say if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things, maybe give it to some people that need it.”

To recap the evening, late night host Stephen Colbert introduced Billie Eilish on stage at New York’s Museum of Modern Art. During the intro, he announced that the singer plans to donate $11.5 million of the proceeds from her ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’ tour to causes dedicated to food equity, climate justice and reducing carbon pollution. After pledging her own pockets, Billie turned to her peers, particularly the ultra rich.

“Love you all, but there’s a few people in here who have a lot more money than me,” the ‘Bad Guy’ singer said. “And if you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? And no hate, but give your money away, shorties.”

Is The Singer Following Her Own Advice?

As explained, Billie Eilish is redirecting funds from her tour earnings to support multiple humanitarian causes. But the singer doesn’t appear to be a one-and-done type! Through her Changemaker Program, Eilish has reportedly worked with the nonprofit Reverb for years on its Music Decarbonization Project and its Music Climate Revolution initiative. Other artists involved range from Dead & Company to Harry Styles.

Number Of Billionaires Grew In 2024

Eilish’s comments come as the number of billionaires worldwide continues to grow. For example, 204 new people joined the billionaires’ list in 2024, per to a January report from Oxfam International titled ‘Takers Not Makers.’ The report found that the billionaires grew wealthier three times faster in 2024 than in 2023. That growth suggests an increased concentration of resources globally.

Also, Oxfam predicted at least five people will become trillionaires in the next decade. That’s up from one person the year before. The group called for higher taxes on the rich and other measures to break up monopolies, cap CEO pay and require companies to pay living wages.

Some Billionaires Have Committed To Sharing Their Wealth, But Is It Working?

The wealthiest Americans have a long history of calling on each other to give away more of their money. In 1889, Andrew Carnegie argued in the essay, ‘The Gospel of Wealth,’ that the richest should give away their fortunes within their lifetimes. Fast-forward to 2010. That year, Bill Gates, Melinda French Gates and Warren Buffett created the Giving Pledge, a commitment for billionaires to give away more than half their wealth in their lifetimes or when they die.

Fifteen years later, some 256 billionaires have taken the pledge. 110 of them are from the U.S., according to a recent report by the Charity Reform Initiative of the Institute for Policy Studies. Those U.S. billionaires represent 13% of the total 876 billionaires in the U.S., per the report. Let THAT sink in.

Additionally, the report found that of the 22 billionaires who have died since taking the pledge, only one gave away his fortune before he died. Only eight of the 22 deceased pledgers fulfilled the commitment by giving away half or more of their wealth at their death. It’s worth noting, though, that some of their estates are still being resolved.

Meanwhile, Chuck Collins, one of the authors of the report and an expert at the Institute for Policy Studies, says the tax system is the real beast. He thinks the Giving Pledge has created an expectation and competition for the wealthiest to give away their money. However, the fortunes of many of the pledgers have increased over time. So, if they plan to fulfill their commitment, they will need to move even more aggressively with giving back.

“In the end, philanthropy is not a substitute for a fair and effective tax system,” Collins said. “The level of extreme inequality will require some form of restoring progressivity to the tax system, a wealth tax as well as progressive income tax.”

Billionaires’ Bunker Review: A Stylish Survival Drama That’s Flawed But Fascinating | Glamsham.com

Billionaires’ Bunker arrived on Netflix with quiet confidence, carrying the signature tension and spectacle viewers expect from Spanish thrillers. The premise is both dark and addictive: a group of ultra-rich families retreat underground to survive what they believe is a global apocalypse. What unfolds inside that bunker is a mix of privilege, paranoia, and power games that slowly unravel into something much more complex.

The show follows Max, a man just out of prison who suddenly finds himself dragged into his family’s luxurious underground shelter, the Kimera bunker. As he adjusts to life in this sealed world, it becomes clear that not everyone is there for survival. Secrets emerge, loyalties fracture, and questions about the world above start to haunt everyone inside.

What Works:

Fans online agree that worldbuilding is one of the show’s biggest strengths. The bunker looks stunning yet suffocating, perfectly capturing the sense of safety that feels like a trap. Many viewers have called it “one of the best-looking Netflix shows this year,” appreciating how the atmosphere feels both cinematic and claustrophobic.

Another thing people love is how the story plays with morality. Viewers have praised how it doesn’t stick to a simple good-versus-evil narrative. Instead, it shows how fear, greed, and guilt blur everything. The interactions between Max and Asia are also a highlight for many fans. Their tension-filled chemistry gives the story a human core in a world driven by secrets and survival.

The ending has become one of the most-discussed parts of the show. Fans have been posting theories about what really happened above ground and whether the supposed apocalypse was ever real. Some call it one of Netflix’s smarter twists in recent months.

Where It Misses?

Despite its visual appeal and tension, Billionaires’ Bunker isn’t perfect. Viewers have pointed out that the middle episodes drag. Several Reddit threads describe the pacing as “slow and repetitive,” especially around episodes four to six. Others say it feels like “too much conversation, not enough revelation.”

Another common complaint is that some characters feel flat. Audiences mention that while the main cast holds attention, the supporting characters blend into the background without clear motivation. A few users compared it to Money Heist, saying it has “the same energy, but without the spark.”

A number of fans also criticized the tone for being uneven. Some episodes feel like a high-stakes thriller, while others slip into soap-style melodrama. There are even moments where the emotional beats don’t hit the way they should. Still, most viewers agree that the finale pulls things back together in a satisfying way.

Final Thoughts:

Billionaires’ Bunker is the kind of series that grows on you. It’s flawed, yes, but also oddly captivating. The setting alone makes it worth watching, and even when the story feels stretched, it holds your curiosity. What keeps it interesting is how it uses a survival setup to say something about wealth, truth, and human nature.

It’s not a perfect show, but it’s definitely not a bad one. Fans are right when they call it “a beautiful mess.” It’s the kind of series that keeps you watching, not because it’s flawless, but because it’s unpredictable and strangely magnetic.

For me, Billionaires’ Bunker earns a 3.5 out of 5. It’s a solid weekend watch with enough mystery, tension, and emotional moments to keep you thinking even after it ends.

Sir Richard Branson has been left “deeply saddened” after executive sous chef Sihle Somdaka died in a buggy crash on his Caribbean retreat Necker Island.

Sir Richard Branson has been left ‘deeply saddened’ after executive sous chef Sihle Somdaka died in a buggy crash on his Caribbean retreat Necker Island

The 75-year-old entrepreneur was not on the island at the time of the incident but has been in close contact with staff and the chef’s family, according to reports.

Sihle, aged 37 and originally from Cape Town, South Africa, was found fatally injured late on Friday (29.08.25) after apparently losing control of an electric buggy shortly after leaving a farewell party at the island’s Great House.

A source told The Sun: “Sir Richard wasn’t on the island when the incident occurred but has been in close contact with the family and the Necker Island team.”

They added the billionaire was “deeply saddened” by the tragedy.

The crash took place just before midnight, as Sihle drove down a steep hillside in one of the resort’s buggies.

Island medics attempted CPR before a doctor was flown in from neighbouring Moskito Island.

He was then transported by boat to Peebles Hospital on Tortola, where he was pronounced dead from a head injury.

Police in the British Virgin Islands have launched a full investigation into the circumstances of the crash. A source told The Sun staff on Necker Island are working closely with local authorities to establish what happened.

Another insider alleged there had been “a culture of excess” at the luxury resort.

They said: “They’ve had very many close shaves and near misses over the years… it was only a matter of time, but it should never have happened.”

Sihle was described as a rising star in the culinary world.

The father-of-two had worked in high-end restaurants across the Middle East, including in Doha and Kuwait, before securing a position on Branson’s £95,000-a-night private island.

Days before his death, Sihle shared images on social media of himself enjoying the beaches and jet skis at Necker Island, captioning one photograph: “Caribbean life.”
