Actor Rajat Bedi, known for his work in films such as Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani (2002) and Koi… Mil Gaya (2003), made a dashing comeback this year with Aryan Khan’s directorial debut show, The Ba***ds of Bollywood. In the celebrated series, Rajat portrayed the role of actor Jaraj Saxena, who went on to become one of the most loved characters in the high-stakes drama. But it was Rajat’s gorgeous 18-year-old daughter Vera Bedi who stole all the limelight at the premiere of Aryan’s show, when she joined her daddy dearest on the red carpet. But is she enjoying the attention?

Rajat Bedi and family

Well, sort of. In a recent chat with Filmygyan, Rajat Bedi shared that his daughter Vera Bedi is excited, but is also scared of the newfound fame. Rajat explained, “Right now she’s excited also of the attention she’s getting, she’s scared also because it’s very overwhelming… Woh dar bhi jaati hai. Bolti hai ‘Papa everywhere I go now, people…’ they are suddenly staring away at her and she sees all this Instagram pe, pictures of hers which she’s not done, and they have generated things, and I mean she’s just feeling every second thing is coming on her. So she’s getting a little worried also, ‘Papa look what wrong things they are doing’.”

Vera, who was compared to the likes of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan after her red carpet debut, is currently studying in college. Her brother Vivaan Bedi, on the other hand, is planning to follow in the footsteps of his actor father straight into Bollywood. 30 years ago, Rajat assisted Shah Rukh Khan on a film. Life came a full circle when Rajat’s son Vivaan began his filmy journey assisting Aryan on The Ba***ds of Bollywood. And now soon, Vivaan will be launched as an actor.

Meanwhile, fans are eagerly waiting to see Rajat once again as Jaraj in The Ba***ds of Bollywood season 2.

Rajat Bedi calls Bollywood ‘unforgiving industry’, recalls losing his father when he was 9: ‘No one looked back at us’

Bollywood actor Rajat Bedi recently made his comeback with Aryan Khan’s web series Ba***ds of Bollywood. In a candid conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Rajat opened up about his early life and revealed how the entire film fraternity used to visit his home when his father, Narendra Bedi, was alive. However, after his father’s death, the industry, he said, completely “abandoned” his family.

Rajat Bedi talks about his family legacy.

Rajat Bedi says Bollywood is an unforgiving industry

Rajat shared that his grandfather, renowned Urdu writer and director Rajinder Singh Bedi, had worked with legends like Prithviraj Kapoor, Dharmendra, and other stalwarts. He also revealed that his father, Narendra Bedi, started his career as an assistant to Raj Kapoor and went on to direct several successful films such as Benaam, Adalat, Jawani Diwani, and more.

Reflecting on his father’s death, Rajat said, “I was nine years old when I lost my father. He was 45. I remember vividly that no one from the industry looked back at us, except for director Prakash Mehra and his family. For about six months to a year after Papa’s death, Prakash-ji sent money to our house, telling my mother, ‘Bhabhi, don’t worry.’ My mother has been a housewife all her life. She hasn’t done anything apart from raising three children on her own. Besides Prakash-ji, no one else looked back. It’s a very unforgiving industry.”

Rajat further recalled, “After that, we were out of the industry until I decided to start working. One day, my mum asked me what I wanted to do. I was lost. She suggested I assist Ramesh Sippy. She spoke to him personally, and he agreed immediately. I was 18 when I joined him and worked on the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Zamaana Deewana. I was quite close to SRK at that time; we worked together for about two and a half years. He used to call me ‘Tiger’ because I was this aggressive guy — and also because there were two Rajats on set.”

About Rajat Bedi

Rajat made his acting debut with the 1998 film 2001: Do Hazaar Ek and went on to appear in films such as International Khiladi, Indian, Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani, Koi… Mil Gaya, Partner, and more. After Partner, the actor stepped away from Bollywood but later appeared in the Kannada film Jaggu Dada and the Telugu film Ahimsa.

In 2025, Rajat ventured into the digital space with Aryan Khan’s directorial debut Ba***ds of Bollywood, a satirical take on the Hindi film industry. The show also stars Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, Bobby Deol, Raghav Juyal, Anya Singh, and Manoj Pahwa in key roles. It received positive reviews from both critics and audiences, with particular praise for Aryan’s sharp direction and humour. The series is currently streaming on Netflix.

Taken Out of Context: Rajat Bedi Sets The Record Straight On Rakesh Roshan, His Move To Canada

by jummy84 October 6, 2025
written by jummy84

After the resounding success of The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, actor Rajat Bedi has found himself in the midst of a controversy he never saw coming. What began as a triumphant comeback for the actor best known for playing Raj Saxena—the stylish antagonist opposite Hrithik Roshan in Koi Mil Gaya (2003)—has unexpectedly turned into a misunderstanding over an old interview clip that recently went viral.

The actor has now spoken out, clarifying that the entire controversy began after a 2023 interview with veteran actor Mukesh Khanna was edited and circulated online in a misleading way. The manipulated clip, according to Rajat, distorted his statements about filmmaker Rakesh Roshan and implied that he had left India out of disappointment after being “sidelined” during Koi Mil Gaya promotions. “My comments were taken out of context,” Rajat said, adding that his casual conversation about career choices and personal life was twisted into sensational clickbait.

“In that interview, I only mentioned that I moved to Canada after Koi Mil Gaya released,” Rajat explained. “But it was presented as though I left because I was ignored during the film’s promotions. That’s completely untrue. How can someone do that just to get views and engagement? It’s deeply unfair.”

Setting the record straight, Rajat emphasised that his relationship with the Koi Mil Gaya team—especially Rakesh Roshan—has always been one of admiration and gratitude. He described Roshan as a filmmaker who was deeply involved in every aspect of his projects, often performing scenes himself to help his actors grasp the emotion and intent of each moment. “I share a very good bond with Rakesh sir,” Rajat said. “He’s one of the most hardworking and passionate directors I’ve ever worked with. When I saw headlines suggesting that I had issues with him, I was shocked. That’s not who I am, and that’s not what I said.”

Rajat went on to explain that his move to Canada was purely a personal decision, driven by the need for stability rather than any professional fallout. At the time, despite being a familiar face in Bollywood with roles in films like International Khiladi and Koi Mil Gaya, he felt uncertain about his long-term prospects in the industry. “I had work, I had fame, but there was no stability,” he said. “Life in Mumbai was glamorous but unpredictable. I had to think about my family, my future, and what kind of life I could build. So I made the choice to move to Canada and try something new.”

In Vancouver, Rajat switched gears entirely, exploring real estate and business opportunities. While the transition wasn’t easy, he says it gave him a renewed sense of purpose and a chance to reflect on what he truly wanted from life. “Those years away from films taught me a lot,” he admitted. “It wasn’t just about survival; it was about growth. I realised how much I missed the camera, the sets, the entire energy of filmmaking.”

That realisation led him back to India and, eventually, to his recent career revival with The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, which has earned him widespread praise. The series, backed by Netflix and Aryan Khan’s production banner, marks a turning point for Rajat — not only in terms of visibility but also in reclaiming his narrative on his own terms. “I’m finally doing the kind of work I’ve always wanted to do,” he said. “I don’t want people to remember me only as the villain from Koi Mil Gaya. I want them to see that I have evolved, both as an actor and as a person.”

Reflecting on the online storm that reignited attention on his past, Rajat maintained that while the experience was frustrating, it also reminded him of the importance of authenticity in the digital age. “Today, a few seconds of an edited clip can completely change your image,” he said. “But the truth always comes out eventually. I’m grateful that I’ve had the chance to clarify what really happened.”

For now, Rajat is focused on his second innings in the entertainment industry — one built not on controversy, but on craft, patience, and renewed confidence. “After everything that’s happened, I’ve learnt not to let the noise get to me,” he said. “I’m just happy to be back on screen, doing what I love — this time, on my own terms.”
