Mahira Khan, one of Pakistan’s most celebrated stars, has always been admired for her grace and screen presence. She is best known in India for marking her Bollywood debut in 2017 with the Shah Rukh Khan starrer film Raees. However, behind the success was a phase she rarely spoke about, until she finally opened up about her emotional turmoil that happened when Pakistani actors were banned from working in India following the 2016 URI attack. In a candid conversation, she revisited the time she battled severe anxiety and depression as political tensions escalated and backlash intensified. Here’s a look back at her honest and powerful revelation.

Mahira Khan On Battling Depression

In an interview with FWhy podcast, Mahira revealed she was diagnosed with manic depression after Raees was released and also spoke about smoking pictures with Ranbir Kapoor that went viral. She shared, “I had finished the film (Raees), and everything was going fine, and then suddenly this attack (URI attack) happens. Politically, everything gets messed. With India, it is always political. But the fact that it could get this messy!”

She added, “I was not scared, but I was threatened. Constant tweets — in fact, I would get calls, and very scary ones. The only thing I wanted was that ‘Okay, fine, I can’t go to India to promote it (Raees), but I hope it releases in my country because I knew people would rush to watch it, as he (SRK) is loved here (Pakistan).”

Mahira Khan On Getting Backlash After Raees Released

Mahira further added, “That (backlash) brought out the anxiety and depression hidden inside me. That was a hard time for me. I felt attacked. I guess I had built it up, and then it came crashing down. The constant backlash. You are getting mean tweets, comments on their channels (Indian channels). That was a time when my faith broke a little, and I developed severe anxiety to the point that one day I had a panic attack and fainted.”

“That’s the first time I went for therapy. But that didn’t work out, as I went to several therapists. I was very lucky, though, because I had my family and friends supporting me, but still it isn’t external; it’s how you’re feeling inside. So, that year was rough, and it was the same year Raees released and the same year that whole picture thing happened. It broke me, and I couldn’t sleep; my hands used to shake,” she continued.

Mahira Khan Confessed Being Under Medication

Mahira Khan also admitted that she has been under medication for around 6-7 years. The actress said, “I ended up in a psychiatrist’s office, and she said, ‘We will talk about everything later on, but I need you to know that you have manic depression.’ This is the first time I am saying that; I don’t know if I should. It’s been six-seven years, I’ve been on anti-depressants. I’ve tried leaving them in the middle, and I went into a very dark space.”

She continued, “Last year, I was in bed. I remember very well that I couldn’t even get up from my bed to go to the bathroom. I remember praying, ‘I promise you, Allah, if you show me even this much hope or light, I will take it, and I will run with it.’ And when he did, and when I went back on my medicines, I woke up feeling like, ‘Oh my God, I feel like I can smile, feel lighter.’ Clinical depression is real, just like any other physical illness or mental illness. We should treat it like that.”

Spotify, Max, Streaming Services Face Backlash for Anti-Immigrant Ads

by jummy84 November 12, 2025
written by jummy84

If a dystopic voice asking you “to fulfill your mission” of rounding up undocumented immigrants has snuck its way onto your streaming airwaves, you’re far from the only one.

In the last two months, online users have reported seeing and hearing an increased amount of recruitment advertising from the Department of Homeland Security on streaming services such as Pandora, Spotify, and Max — and even during September’s MTV VMAs.

The new advertising push, which has faced online backlash, has followed the Trump administration’s investment of $30 billion to hire at least 10,000 more deportation officers by the end of the year, according to The Associated Press. “You took an oath to protect and serve, to keep your family, your city, safe,” the narrator says in some advertisements targeting local police officers. “But in sanctuary cities, you’re ordered to stand down while dangerous illegals walk free.”

In mid-October, specifically, music listeners on Spotify’s ad-supported free plan reported hearing similar advertising on the platform, with some choosing to end their membership due to the ads. When reached for comment, a rep for Spotify told Rolling Stone that the DHS commercials were part of a “broad campaign” from the government agency and that it did not violate any advertising policies on the platform.

But the recruitment ads have been running on numerous streaming platforms, with fans flagging concerns with the ads on Hulu, Max, YouTube, and Pandora, as early as April.

According to new data from Equis acquired by Rolling Stone, DHS spent a combined $2.8 million on English and Spanish-language ads on Meta’s Facebook and Instagram since March 1, and another half a million on ICE recruitment ads on the platform since August.

On Google and YouTube, DHS spent nearly $3 million on specifically Spanish-language advertising aimed at promoting self-deportation. While Equis is unable to track data for ad spends on Spotify, Pandora, and other platforms, an industry source told Rolling Stone that Spotify had received a mere $74,000 from DHS to run their advertisements. That figure represents less than three percent of what the government spent on Google and Meta.

Editor’s picks

The new data shared on Nov. 11 follows advertisement tracking information from Equis and Priorities USA that confirmed that the Trump administration had spent upwards of $10 million on ad spending for DHS and ICE.

“We’re seeing that some of these campaigns have actively started during October, clearly after the shutdown started, which is key to this story,” Natalia Campos Vargas, the deputy research director for messaging at Equis, told Rolling Stone last week. “During the government shutdown, where employees are being furloughed, these government entities are still spending millions of dollars on advertising on TV and digital platforms.”

According to the memo, the government even increased ad spending during the shutdown. Specifically, DHS increased spending on YouTube ads, going up from $292,000 alone in September to $332,000 in just the first three weeks of October.

In a statement to Rolling Stone on Nov. 2, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin confirmed that the funding came from this bill, and that “hiring law enforcement officers is mission critical in order to fix the crisis the Biden administration manufactured by letting millions of criminal illegal aliens come into the country… Nothing will slow us down from recruiting more officers.”

In a public Pandora community thread started in May 2025, a user who said they have been a Pandora user for more than 15 years shared that they were canceling their subscription due to an “overwhelming number” of DHS ads. The thread has received repeated comments from more users sharing their frustration with receiving similar advertisements.

Related Content

“This is not a random glitch. It is the result of ad targeting that equates music preference with immigration status,” read the user’s note. “Your platform appears to be allowing (or enabling) ads that racially and culturally profile users based on the language of the music they enjoy.”

In August, DHS confirmed to The Independent that it would be running advertisements on YouTube, Max, Amazon Prime Video, X, LinkedIn, and other internet platforms. Several Reddit threads discussed folks opting for VPNs to stream without receiving the ads, while others opted to cancel their subscriptions completely. “It isn’t just the fact that they’re advertising, it is how AWFUL the ads actually are,” wrote one user. “Forget the hateful bullshit, just the sheer stupidity of running that ad in Denver is fucking WILD,” added another.

Similarly, Spanish-language channels such as Univision and Telemundo have also run ads featuring Kristi Noem urging “illegal aliens” not to come into the country. “Join the mission to protect America with bonuses up to $50,000 and generous benefits. Apply now join.ice.gov and fulfill your mission,” says one ad.

When reached for comment, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Rolling Stone that there was “nothing offensive or partisan” with removing what it called criminals from the United States. “The ICE recruitment campaign is a resounding success with more than 150,000 applications rolling in from patriotic Americans answering the call to defend the Homeland by helping arrest and remove the worst of the worst from our country,” McLaughlin said.

Earlier this month, the AP reported that ad-spends by DHS had topped $6.5 million, and that spots had been run in several major cities, including Seattle, Chicago, Washington, D.C, and Miami, aimed at recruiting local officers frustrated with their cities’ immigration enforcement policies.

HBO, Pandora, and Hulu did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone’s request for comment. YouTube had no comment.

The Backlash Over Shay Mitchell’s ‘Dystopian’ Skincare Masks for Kids, Explained

by jummy84 November 11, 2025
written by jummy84

Shay Mitchell is facing backlash for her latest business venture Rini, a skin care line developed for children. On November 6, the Béis mogul and Pretty Little Liars star launched a new line of sheet masks for tiny faces, including two jelly masks for hydration and after-sun care, as well as “everyday” masks that come in three animal faces.

“We created Rini because we wanted products that are gentle, trustworthy, and inspire creativity, elevated by Korean innovation,” Mitchell wrote in a brand mission statement alongside cofounders Esther Song and Matte Babel, Mitchell’s long-term partner. “Rini is where skin care meets play, a world where kids can dream, transform, and explore with dermatologist-tested products parents trust. Our mission is simple: to nurture healthy habits, spark confidence, and make thoughtfully crafted daily care essentials and play products accessible to every family.”

When Mitchell first teased the products on Instagram with a glossy editorial photo of a little girl using a pink jelly mask, the response was loud—and overwhelmingly negative. “I struggle to find the right words to articulate how disappointing and dystopian this is 💔,” commented Sarah Adams (@mom.uncharted), an anti-child exploitation activist prominent on social media. Another wrote, “This is paving the way to future adults with serious body image problems. Not good.”

But what, exactly, is all the outrage about and what else do you need to know? Here’s the TL;DR.

Give me the TL;DR.

Shay Mitchell is facing backlash for launching a new skin care line designed for children. The brand is called Rini, a colloquial term for “children” in Korean.

Wait, I need more. What’s the background here?

Last year saw the boom of “Sephora Kids”—a.k.a. children obsessed with skin care brands like Drunk Elephant, Summer Fridays, and Laneige. Some parents had concerns over their kids using skin care made for adults, specifically products containing actives that could potentially irritate young skin.

Mitchell is not the first to launch a skin care brand marketed towards children: brands like TBH Kids, Rile, and Evereden have created products to help meet newfound demand in a safe and responsible way.

For Rini, Mitchell was inspired by her own daughters. “My girls would always see me with [masks on], especially when getting prepared for any makeup to follow,” she told Elle of the inspiration behind the brand. “They would just come into the bathroom and look at me in the mirror and be like, ‘Can I use that? What’s that?’ I’ll even pass them some deodorant—with a lid on, of course—just so they feel like they can be a part of my routine. I also want them to know that skin care, for me, is about creating healthy habits and about having that self-care time—that’s important.”

According to a Rini press release, the formulas were developed in “collaboration with leading pediatric chemists and laboratories in South Korea,” adding that “Rini offers dermatologist-tested products designed to inspire curiosity and confidence while supporting healthy habits from an early age.”

What age is recommended for Rini?

On the website’s general FAQ page, Rini teases future “bath essentials” that are “generally recommended for ages 2 and up.”

Bigg Boss Makers And Salman Khan Faces Backlash Slamming Farhana Bhatt On Weekend Ka War By Her Fans

Bigg Boss 19 contestant Farhana Bhatt had a rough weekend as she found herself at the center of controversy during the Weekend Ka Vaar episode. Salman Khan, the show’s host, didn’t hold back when he reprimanded Farhana for using abusive language inside the house, and his sharp criticism left the housemates, as well as viewers, shocked. However, the incident sparked a fierce online backlash, with Farhana’s team and fans defending her and accusing Salman Khan of biasness.

During the weekend episode, Salman Khan called out Farhana Bhatt and Tanya Mittal for their behavior, questioning their maturity and mindset. Salman was particularly harsh on Farhana, saying, “Spiritual motivators, they don’t even know the ‘s’ of spirituality. Peace activists, they don’t even know the ‘p’ of peace.” The comments came after a series of incidents inside the house, where Farhana was seen making controversial remarks.

Salman criticized her behavior, saying, “A man returns home after recovering from an illness, and you say, ‘Let them celebrate, another fool has joined.’” His words were pointed and personal, and he accused her of bringing the show down. The episode sparked outrage online. Farhana’s supporters quickly took to social media to express their anger, accusing Salman of unfairly targeting her. Her team reposted several stories shared by her fans on Instagram, criticizing both Salman and the show’s producers for their handling of the situation.

Farhana Bhatt

One message shared by her team read, “Today’s Bigg Boss 19 episode was truly difficult to watch. Salman Khan completely humiliated Farhana on TV, yes, she may have said some wrong things and used harsh words, but that doesn’t justify the way she was brutally insulted. Correcting someone is one thing, but publicly humiliating them is another. And why is Farhana always singled out? There are many others who have done worse, yet they are spared every time. This seems unfair and one-sided. We’re not saying she’s right, but what about your nepo kids? The makers want to portray Farhana Bhatt in a bad light and others in a good light.”

The duo’s chemistry is evident, and the scene seems to be packed with high-energy choreography meant to capture the audience’s attention. The controversy intensified when a behind-the-scenes (BTS) photo from the Chilgam music video surfaced on social media. In the photo, Malaika is seen in an intimate pose with Honey Singh, with her tongue out while dancing closely to the rapper.

Though the pose was clearly meant to be playful and lighthearted, it quickly became the focal point of online criticism. Keyshia Ka’oir Reflects on Dallas Cowboys Player Marshawn Kneeland’s Apparent S#icide, Addresses Backlash Over Husband Gucci Mane: “I Didn’t Cast a Spell on Him!”

Entrepreneur Keyshia Ka’oir is speaking out following the tragic d*ath of Dallas Cowboys player Marshawn Kneeland, using her platform to address the seriousness of mental health struggles.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Ka’oir expressed condolences to Kneeland’s family while reflecting on her own experience navigating her husband Gucci Mane’s mental health challenges. “RIP to Marshawn Kneeland & my condolences to his family! Mental health is real and those episodes are a nightmare for the person going thru it & the family members involved!” she wrote.

Ka’oir also addressed the backlash she’s faced in the past for discussing mental health publicly, saying, “My husband & I tried to raise awareness & the narrative was changed to me controlling him! Me putting a spell on him! How DISGUSTING! WHY? All because he’s a responsible adult who has finally accepted he has mental health issues & did something about it!”

She continued by emphasizing the importance of compassion and understanding. “We need to do better as a community! Everything is not a joke! If u have never dealt with someone with mental health please sit this one out! Never have I controlled my husband! However during an episode all family members must step in and control the situation! OR IT CAN GO REALLY BAD!” Ka’oir concluded her post with a plea for awareness and action: “We can help save more lives! Mental health is not a joke & should be taken very seriously!” She ended with the hashtag #MentalHealth.

Her message follows reports confirming that Kneeland, 24, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to reports, which also reported that police dispatch audio revealed he told his family goodbye during what authorities described as an apparent mental episode.

Trina Braxton Faces Backlash for Supporting K. Michelle’s Country Album Amid Tamar Braxton Feud

Trina Braxton found herself at the center of online debate this week after publicly supporting singer K. Michelle’s upcoming country album — with some fans calling her move “messy” given K. Michelle’s long history of conflict with Trina’s sister, Tamar Braxton.

The exchange began when Trina commented under K. Michelle’s post promoting her “Bringing Nashville to Atlanta” private listening event, writing, “You know I love country music!” K. Michelle warmly replied, “Come see me Trina ?? DM me, I’ll set it up. The album is great.”

While the interaction seemed harmless, social media users quickly reacted — many suggesting Trina’s comment was ill-timed considering Tamar and K. Michelle’s past public feud. The pair’s disputes have spanned years, including multiple heated exchanges on social media and television, most notably when K. Michelle called Tamar a “muppet” during a viral 2014 interview (Billboard).

On X (formerly Twitter), fans speculated about Trina’s motives. One user wrote, “If you’re my sister’s opp, you’re now my opp… this is shady!” Another added, “You don’t have to be their opp, just don’t fraternize with people who clearly dislike your sister. Toni would never do that.”

Others defended Trina, noting her interest in country music and her history of supporting other artists. Still, many commenters interpreted her gesture as subtle shade following recent family tension involving Tamar and the Braxton sisters — including Tamar’s own claim that her siblings have been distant.

Under K. Michelle’s post, several Instagram users directly called Trina out, with comments like “You are messy,” “trifling,” and “please don’t do it… she is your sister.”

Despite the criticism, neither Trina nor Tamar has addressed the backlash publicly. K. Michelle’s country project, part of her musical pivot announced earlier this year, is scheduled for release on November 8.

The Queen Of Bollywood Has Lost Her Crown: Madhuri Dixit Faces Backlash For Late Arrival! | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 November 5, 2025
written by jummy84

The Bollywood superstar Madhuri Dixit, who is noted for her mesmerizing charm and peerless performances on screen, is facing severe criticism after one video from her ongoing Canada tour went viral on social media. Shared by several show attendees, the video showed the actress dancing on stage. They claimed she came nearly three hours late to the show. The video had an overlay text that read, “If I could give you one piece of advice, it’s to not attend the Madhuri Dixit tour… save your money.”

The event, meant to kick off at 7:30 PM, was said to have begun at about 10 PM, leading to frustration and disappointment from the audience. Many disappointed guests aired their grievances online, complaining that the event was “chaotic,” “ill-organized,” and that it was such “a waste of time.” A disgruntled audience member felt so strongly and wrote, “This was the worst show ever. So unorganised. Advertisement didn’t say she was just going to chat and dance 2 seconds of each song. Very poorly organized by the promoters. So many people walked out. People were yelling for refunds.”

Of course, not everyone was against Madhuri. Some fans even rose to her defense, noting she seemed to be performing as graciously as ever and the problem might be at the level of production or management. “She seems to be performing as graciously as always! It may be a production or management coordination issue,” one fan said. Another fan wrote, “Madhuri Dixit is amazing. Real fans would appreciate any glimpse of her. It’s not her fault if it was not organized correctly. To be in her presence is something else.”

It has stirred up a debate among fans and critics, with some asking for a refund while others praised the performance of Madhuri even with the delayed start. Some of the fans requested the people to take legal action against the organizers due to misrepresentation and false advertisement. The video has continued to generate a buzz on social media, and it remains to be seen how Madhuri Dixit and the organizers will respond to this criticism. But one thing is for certain-the controversy has focused attention on an important aspect of event management: the need for clarity in communication between the organizer and the audience.

Dave Navarro looks back on “backlash” to replacing John Frusciante in Red Hot Chili Peppers and the “disconnect” he felt from the band

by jummy84 November 4, 2025
written by jummy84

Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Dave Navarro has looked back on his time with the band and the backlash that followed when he replaced John Frusciante.

Frusciante departed the band in 1992 and Navarro, who had left Jane’s Addiction when they broke up the year before, stepped in. He only recorded one album with the band, ‘One Hot Minute’, and it failed to be as successful as their previous studio album, 1991’s ‘Blood Sugar Sex Magik’.

In April 1998, the band announced Navarro’s departure, and Frusciante rejoined the same month. He left again in 2009, before rejoining a decade later. With Frusciante back in the band, they had a run of successful albums including ‘Californication’, ‘By The Way’ and ‘Stadium Arcadium’, and Navarro has admitted in a recent interview with Guitar World that he felt out of place in the band.

“Whatever magic John brought to the Chili Peppers, I didn’t have that style of magic,” he said, describing himself as a “goth kid in a funk band”.

He explained: “If you had to narrow down what the disconnect was, I’d say that would be it … It became clear pretty fast that as much as we tried and as much as we wanted it to work, we weren’t coming from the same musical place.

“The best way I can describe it is that I was in a cover band with the actual band. And that’s a very strange place to be – especially with the clashing of styles.”

Navarro addressed the reaction he received from “diehard fans”, explaining, “There was a lot of backlash from the fanbase because I was filling John’s role.”

He continued, “I always found it odd that any of that was directed at me. I was like, ‘Well, if you don’t like me being here, you can blame them. I didn’t force myself into this, they asked me. All I did was say yes.’”

He said the lukewarm reception ‘One Hot Minute’ received impacted everyone in the band, but that he was “feeling the brunt” of the question marks over the album’s direction. But despite that, he described it as the “most successful record” he’d ever played on, so it felt like a win for him personally but a failure for the rest of the band.

Navarro and Frusciante, meanwhile, teamed up together in 2020 to play Jane’s Addiction’s ‘Mountain Song’ at a memorial show to honour Andrew Burkle. The following year, Navarro joined Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis to cover Lou Reed’s ‘Walk On The Wild Side’ as part of Navarro’s Above Ground charity concert to raise awareness and funds for mental health for people in the music industry under the MusiCares programme. It marked the first time the pair had performed together since Navarro left the band.

As for Jane’s Addiction, however, Navarro said earlier this year that there’s “no chance” they’ll ever play together again. Last year, the band’s classic line-up of Navarro, Perry Farrell, Eric Avery and Stephen Perkins performed together for the first time since 2010, and they released their first new music together in 34 years, but the comeback ended abruptly after frontman Farrell punched Navarro onstage in a show in Boston.

At the time, they announced an immediate hiatus, cancelling the rest of the tour, and Navarro told Guitar Player earlier this year, “There was an altercation onstage, and all the hard work and dedication and writing and hours in the studio, and picking up and leaving home and crisscrossing the country and Europe and trying to overcome my illness — it all came to a screeching halt and forever destroyed the band’s life.

“And there’s no chance for the band to ever play together again. I have to say that’s my least favourite gig, without throwing animosity around, and without naming names and pointing fingers, and coming up with reasons.”

In July, Navarro, Avery and Perkins filed a lawsuit against Farrell over the fallout from the tour, and in September, Farrell responded with a legal filing of his own, denying “each and every allegation”.
