EXCLUSIVE: ‘Alok’ Ayushmann Khurrana Reveals Thamma Is Not Based On Vampires But The Folklore Of Vikram Betaal

by jummy84 October 18, 2025
written by jummy84

Thamma – the fifth film in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, is all set to release on October 21 and the hype surrounding it is at an all time high. Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal in pivotal roles, the film is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and is believed to be based on the supernatural mythical creatures- vampires. But is it true? Announced as Vampires of Vijay Nagar in June 2024, the film was renamed Thamma in September 2024.

Now, with just days left until the supernatural horror-comedy film releases, the film’s lead stars – ‘Alok Goyal’ Ayushmann Khurrana and ‘Yakshasan’ Nawazuddin Siddiqui sat down for an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble host Ankita Bhalla. During the fun, but informative interaction, Khurrana opened up about the film not being about vampires but betaal – a creature from Indian folklore. Read on to know all he said

Ayushmann Khurrana: The Most Powerful Betaal Is Thamma

Clarifying that Thamma is not about vampires but about betaals – an evil spirit from Indian folklore who haunts cemeteries and takes demonic possession of corpses, Ayushmann Khurrana said, “Hum isko bolte hain betaalism (not vampirism). Betaal hai hai, vampire nahi. It’s based in Indian folklore. Thamma humare film ka naam hai, Ashvatthama se iska (naam liya hai). Thamma from Ashvatthama, Dinesh Vijan hain yeh. Unhone ne idea nikala and the most powerful betaal is Thamma.”

Here’s What We Think About Possible Munjya Cameo In Thamma!
Bollywood

Will Munjya Appear In Ayushmann Khurrana & Rashmika Mandanna Starrer? Here’s What We Think!

Can Munjya Have A Cameo In Thamma? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

The trailer of Thamma has already got fans talking. There are a few surprising glimpses and familiar tunes that hint at connections to Maddock Films’ other movies. While nothing has been officially confirmed, viewers are eager to see whether characters from previous Maddock hits will make a special appearance in Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s film.

Bhediya’s Scene In Thamma Trailer

If you watch the trailer closely, you will notice a scene featuring Bhediya. This strongly suggests that the character could appear in Thamma. His role could be a brief cameo, or he could have a more substantial role by aiding Rashmika Mandanna’s character in the narrative. The fans cannot wait to see how this old character integrates into the world of Thamma and what influence he can have on the plot.

First look at Varun Dhawan’s Bhediya in Thamma is here—and he’s fiercer than ever. With glowing red eyes and brutal energy, his return confirms Maddock’s expanding Horror-Comedy Universe. Werewolves, vampires, and chaos await this Diwali on Oct 21. 🐺🔥 pic.twitter.com/HgkKI2i6hq

Hints Of Munjya’s Appearance In Thamma

Another interesting detail is the inclusion of the song Hai Jamalo, which is closely tied to the Munjya movie, in the Thamma trailer. Although the creators have not officially announced anything, this is a subtle hint that Munjya may appear in Thamma.

His appearance could be another cameo or can be safely presumed to be in a post-credits scene, laying the groundwork for the next film in the universe. This would follow the pattern set by Maddock Films, connecting their horror-comedy movies through small crossovers and Easter eggs.

If these appearances happen, it would make the movie even more entertaining for viewers who follow the Maddock horror-comedy universe.

Legends, chills & entertainment Maddock HCU is a total gamechanger. Stree, Munjya, Thamma, what a ride!#Thamma pic.twitter.com/2bJuJ6V8bp

Get Ready For The Ultimate Entertainer: Ayushmann Khurrana’s Upcoming Films With Sooraj Barjatya And Dharma Productions | Glamsham.com

written by jummy84

Ayushmann Khurrana is ready to come back to the big screen this Diwali with Thamma, which is one of his most eagerly awaited films ever. At the recent silver jubilee staging of FICCI Frames 2025, the multi-talented actor not only expressed his enthusiasm about the film but also reiterated an impressive list of upcoming assignments that reflect both his mass appeal and his penchant for off-beat roles.

During his speech at the event, Ayushmann stated, “As for my slate, Thamma is my opening, big Diwali release. That will be followed by a Sooraj Barjatya film which again will be for a larger audience. Then I am also making a Dharma film which also would be for a larger audience. Lekin main beech mein panga leta rahunga. I’ll keep doing tedhi films as that’s my bread and butter!”

The new Sooraj Barjatya movie, under production in Mumbai, will feature Sharvari as well. Barjatya, famous for his family-related stories, disclosed in an interview with PTI, “He is a committed and good actor.”. It’s all about obtaining the correct story, and doing it in a way that makes it look real and making it with the correct cast.” Media reports indicate that Ayushmann could play the iconic role of Prem, which has been closely linked to Salman Khan’s legendary acts in Barjatya’s films.

Subsequent to this, Ayushmann will play a lead role in a Dharma Productions release that will be a different spy comedy directed by Aakash Kaushik. Directed by Karan Johar and Guneet Monga, the untitled movie has a mix of espionage, action, and comedy packed into a purely commercial offering. A source informed Pinkvilla, “The script tick marks all the boxes of a commercial film as it has scale, thrill, and action with a lot of comedy, and the trio of Karan, Guneet, and Aakash feel that Ayushmann Khurrana fits the character to the T.”

In the meantime, Thamma is creating huge hype before its release on October 21. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and penned by Niren Bhatt, Suresh Mathew, and Arun Falara, the movie is the fifth in Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. Ayushmann is playing the lead role of Alok in the film, which features Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal, and Sanjay Dutt in important roles. The trailer, released at a lavish function in Mumbai with Shraddha Kapoor gracing the occasion, guarantees a bloody romance marinated in humor and terror.

Thamma Trailer: Ayushmann Khurrana Turns Into a Vampire, Clashes With Betaal and Bhediya

by jummy84 September 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Ayushmann Khurrana will be playing a vampire for the first time in the film Thamma. The trailer was released today at a grand event in the city, which was also attended by Shraddha Kapoor. While Shraddha is not a part of the main cast, her character Stree belongs to the same cinematic universe as Thamma. Before launching the trailer, Dinesh Vijan, Amar Kaushik, and Shraddha unveiled the logo of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe.

The trailer plunges us straight into a bloody world where love bleeds, legends awaken, and humour turns too relatable. Rashmika Mandanna’s Tadaka revives a thousand-year-old legend, Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Yakshaashan makes a bone-chilling declaration, and Ayushmann Khurrana’s Alok finds himself with bloodshot eyes, no pulse, sunlight burning his skin. And at its heart lies a love story – bloody, wild, and unforgettable – making Thamma a complete entertainer that families can enjoy together this festive season.

The trailer starts with a woman telling a man that he is ‘Betaal’ and has been created to protect humans. However, he disagrees and says that he wants to harm humans and create more Betaals like him. This leads to him getting locked away in a cave for years. We are then introduced to Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s character. Years later, somehow Ayushmann’s character Alok comes face-to-face with Yakshaashan and turns into a vampire.

Watch the trailer here:

In addition to the trailer, Dinesh Vijan and Maddock Films also revealed the visual identity of Maddock’s Horror-Comedy Universe (MHCU), giving fans their first look at the evolving cinematic world that began with Stree and now expands in a bigger, bloodier way with Thamma. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik, Thamma blends horror, action, comedy, and romance into a cinematic experience unlike anything before. With an ensemble cast including Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal, Faisal Malik, and Geeta Agrawal, the film promises a Diwali spectacle of epic proportions.

thamma

Ayushmann Khurrana said, “Becoming a part of Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock horror-comedy universe is a thrilling step in my journey as an actor. This genre has always fascinated me because it pushes boundaries – it makes you laugh, scares you, and yet touches your heart. In Thamma, I play Alok – a man who never asked for the extraordinary, but is forced to confront it. He’s flawed, vulnerable, and ambitious, and suddenly, he’s carrying the weight of powers he doesn’t fully understand. What excites me most is that this film is an entertainer, one that families across generations can watch and enjoy together this Diwali. Under Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik’s vision, Aditya Sarpotdar’s storytelling, and with the brilliant energies of Rashmika, Nawaz bhai, and Paresh ji, we’ve built something that I believe will define the next chapter of Indian cinema’s horror-comedy space. And trust me, this trailer is just a glimpse of the madness you are going to see on screen. The universe is only getting bigger from here.

Rashmika Mandanna, who has worked with Maddock Films before but, for the first time, will be seen as part of the MHCU, says, “Thamma is a very special film for me because it brings together horror, comedy, folklore, and even a love story rooted in India. Playing Tadaka has been both challenging and exciting, as she’s an age-old legend brought to life anew. I’m thankful to Maddock Films for giving me this opportunity once again, and I’m really looking forward to everyone experiencing Thamma.”

Aditya Sarpotdar, director, added, “With Munjya, we tapped into folklore to create a horror-comedy that felt rooted yet entertaining. Thamma takes the universe forward in an unexpected way – it’s scarier, funnier, and at its heart, a twisted love story. Being part of the MHCU is exciting because each film adds a new layer, and with Thamma, audiences will see just how wild this universe can get.”

Thamma, the latest addition to Dinesh Vijan’s hit horror-comedy universe, is all set to light up theatres this Diwali. Starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, the film marks the franchise’s first-ever love story, bringing a fresh twist to its established blend of horror and humor. The much-anticipated trailer was unveiled today with the tagline, “Yeh Diwali… THAMMAke Wali,” promising a bloody, romantic ride unlike any other.

After the massive success of Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya, Thamma looks ready to take the horror-comedy genre to the next level. The trailer teases an emotional and eerie tale rooted in folklore — the story of a vampire’s unrequited love. Ayushmann Khurrana takes on the role of the vampire, entering the hauntingly beautiful world of Rashmika’s character. Adding to the intensity is Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who plays the menacing antagonist, bringing his signature gravitas to the screen.

The trailer was launched at a grand event in Mumbai attended by several stars, including Stree actress Shraddha Kapoor, sparking further fan excitement. Sharing the trailer, the makers wrote, “A forgotten legend from our folklore, #Thamma takes centre stage this Diwali.” Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik and directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma is described as “a bloody love story” that blends romance, fear, and dark comedy.

Thamma Trailer Review: Ayushmann Khurrana Turns Vampire, Rashmika Mandanna Joins Maddock’s Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU) | Glamsham.com

The trailer of Maddock’s Thamma is out! Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal and Sathyaraj, the film blends horror, comedy, romance and mythology. The MHCU just got bigger and bloodier.

Aditya Sarpotdar, fresh off the success of Munjya, returns with Thamma—and the trailer makes it clear this is Maddock’s most ambitious step yet in its growing Horror Comedy Universe. Headlined by Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal, and Sathyaraj, the film looks like a full-blown entertainer that marries myth, horror, romance, and laughter in one bloody cocktail.

Ayushmann, with his “boy next door with fangs” vibe, instantly hooks. Rashmika plays more than just a glam quotient—her Tadaka feels integral to the mythology. Nawazuddin, stepping into uncharted territory as the rogue Betaal Yakshasan, looks menacing yet mischievous, while Paresh Rawal lands the punches and Sathyaraj lends gravitas. Add to this Varun Dhawan’s surprise Bhediya cameo, and suddenly Thamma doesn’t just tease a standalone film but a crossover event in the making.

Visually, the trailer is rich—dark palettes lit with striking reds, comic beats punctuating eerie silences, and an undercurrent of folklore giving the film heft. The MHCU’s signature—scares blended with wit—is intact, but this time layered with romance and mythology, hinting at higher emotional stakes.

The Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe already includes blockbusters like Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya, and with Thamma, the universe grows bigger, bloodier, and bolder. With the new visual identity now revealed, fans can expect many more exciting chapters to come. So this October 21, watch Thamma in cinemas- Maddock Films’ most ambitious Horror-Comedy crossover yet.
