How Rachel Sennott, Ayo Edebri Hatched That Wild ‘I Love L.A.’ Cameo

by jummy84 November 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Into every generation, an HBO comedy about the pains of adulthood is born. Sex and the City, Girls, Entourage, How to Make It in America, Insecure … they’re all different, but they share a common DNA. And Gen Z may have found their answer in I Love LA. Created by and starring Rachel Sennott, the series began at the top of November and follows a group of 20-somethings navigating their careers and social lives in one of America’s most challenging metropolises. Sennott, who portrays ambitious transplant Maia, recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter‘s new podcast I’m Having an Episode to explain what she’s trying to say with the series — and how she got pal Ayo Edebiri to co-create an absolutely bonkers bit part.

We’re speaking just before the premiere, so I’d be remiss if I didn’t ask about your mental state.

Unwell. Not OK. I’m crushing my second Celsius of the day. The first was at 7 a.m. I definitely feel vulnerable because this is the longest I’ve ever worked on one thing. I co-wrote Bottoms with my friend Emma Seligman, and that was vulnerable too. This is pretty personal to me, and it’s the first time I directed. I’m definitely scared, but I’m also really proud of it. I just need to release control and trust the universe or whoever and hope that it finds the right people.

Ayo Edebiri makes a guest appearance as delusional British pop star Mimi Rush in the second episode of the comedy series.

Wearing as many hats as you do on this show — writing, acting, editing, directing — where did you find yourself most comfortable?

I always felt like I was cheating on one job with another, which was kind of nice. You’re in the writers room, and you’re really liking it, and then you get sick of that, and all of a sudden you’re scouting locations and get energy from that. Then, boom, you’re an actress. The change is nice. A new love for me that I haven’t experienced before is directing. By the end, I felt like I had just given birth, so the edit was a cocoon for me.

How did you land on how you wanted to incorporate phones and social media on the show? A major criticism of film and TV is that they never know how to navigate that correctly, but your show is about the influencer economy.

It was a huge thing for me because I got my first phone in middle school. I wasn’t an iPad baby, but I would say I grew up on the internet. It’s just always been a huge part of my life. And a lot of times when it’s depicted in movies and TV, it feels a little clunky. For us, it feels seamless. I don’t even think about it. It was important for me to try to depict the internet in that way. And then also create our own internet for the show that moves and breathes the same way the real internet does. Tallulah [Odessa A’zion] is on her phone all the time, and you don’t question for one second that she’s an internet girl, but you don’t need to see her make 10 TikToks to get it.

Odessa A’zion portrays Tallulah Stiel, a popular influencer and college friend of Sennott’s character, in I Love LA.

In the past couple of years, you also co-created Dan Levy’s upcoming Netflix series. You co-wrote the upcoming Heidi Fleiss biopic. You were also set to star in both but had to drop out to focus on this show. Does it feel weird to be turning down opportunities because you have this full-time job now?

It’s definitely a learning curve. I’m someone who’s like, “I’ll make it work.” I will not sleep and I’ll do this and whatever to try to make everything work. But at a certain point, I think you don’t want to do everything if you can’t do a good job at everything. It’s always hard not being able to do other things, especially with such amazing creators and talented people that I’ve looked up to for such a long time, but I’ve had to shift my mindset.

Your friend and frequent collaborator Ayo Edebiri guest stars in the second episode as a fantastically unhinged pop star. And British. Did you bring that to her fully baked or did you guys all find that together?

We found that together. She is a comedic genius. We definitely had the bones of a character, an unhinged diva. I pitched her the idea the morning after the Met Gala. I was like, “Hey, can I send you this?” She Zooms me from her hotel room. It’s like pitch black. She’s like, “Speak to me! What’s the idea?” Then we started jamming on it. Afterward, [writer-producers] Emma Barrie and Max Silvestri talked to her, and we were like, “Do you want to come to the writers room? We need you!”

Attending a screening of After The Hunt at the BFI London Film Festival, the American star wore a white Chanel gown designed by the brand’s new artistic director Matthieu Blazy (she recently became a Chanel ambassador), and earrings featuring a small chick on a diamond perch.

In a recent profile for Vogue, Blazy complimented the star on “carving a unique path for herself” as well as ”her laugh and smile.” Edebiri, in turn, said the designer has a “wonderful energy” that “really does matter. When you’re doing anything creative in nature, you don’t realize how much your energy is up for grabs.”

Ayo Edebiri’s Chanel Girl Era Is Off to a Glorious Start

Ayo Edebiri—one of Vogue’s November cover stars—is one of Hollywood’s most in-demand stars of the moment, and her red carpet style is just as A-list worthy. Working with stylist Danielle Goldberg, the actor has been nailing the art of modern glamour. Both on and off the step and repeat, she manages to find looks that feel classic and timeless, yet undeniably fresh too. It was only a matter of time, then, that Edebiri would become a Chanel girl.

This month, it was announced that Edebiri would become a global Chanel ambassador under designer Matthieu Blazy’s new helm of the label. She was spotted at the spring 2026 show in Paris looking chic (and very Parisian) in all-black—and now, she just debuted her first Chanel red carpet moment, too. Last night, the star attended the premiere of her new Luca Guadagnino-directed film After the Hunt in London (alongside co-stars Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield) wearing a silky white Chanel gown, complete with draping and a low-waisted belt detail.

Ayo Edebiri & Andrew Garfield On After The Hunt Debates

And it’s in that audacity to let its waters stay murky, to allow its characters to be unreliable and unlikeable, and to live in the grey, where I think After The Hunt shines. Roberts plays Alma Imhoff, a Yale professor whose star student, Maggie (Edebiri), accuses her colleague and best friend, Hank (Garfield), of sexual assault. From pretentious pseudo-intellectual debates over whisky to hard-to-watch faceoffs between two women from different generations and races who throw jabs about pronouns and intersectionality at each other to the unfairly messy politics of consent, After The Hunt dares to capture the frustration, hypocrisy and absurdity of the past five to six years (the movie is set from 2019-2025). It doesn’t deliver answers necessarily, but neither does that white dude in your Ethics 101 class — or your timeline — trying to debate you about your humanity. Mostly, these topics shouldn’t be up for debate at all. After The Hunt asks you to confront your own participation in making sexual assault a punchline and complicity in twisting the push for victims into fodder for the culture wars. The movie’s biggest flaw is that the racial dynamic between Maggie and Alma isn’t mined enough, but thanks to stellar performances by Roberts (her best in years) and Edebiri (consistently proving she’s a star), the gaps in the script are filled in with subtext and loaded stares. Throw in a live wire Garfield (he’s riveting and infuriating) and you’ve got a film that grabs hold and doesn’t let go until its final frame.

Ayo Edebiri and Milan’s Chicest Are Swapping Black Trousers for Brown

One thing you should know about me is that I’m very self-aware. I’m always happy to admit when I’m wrong or open up about my shopping obsession. As for the latter, lately, all I’ve been thinking about is autumn fashion and the pieces and trends I want to invest in—and those I don’t. One fashion decision I’ve recently made is that I’ll be replacing my black trousers with brown pairs. Why, you ask? Well, they look more expensive than black ones, and every chic dresser I see these days is wearing them.

For example, during Milan Fashion Week, I noticed several insiders wearing brown trousers to the runway shows. From brown pleated wide-leg trousers to corduroy jeans, these styles lined the city streets, often paired with preppy polos, button-up tops, barn jackets, or classic blazers. Their footwear choices included sleek loafers, open-toe kitten-heel sandals, and pointed, closed-toe slingbacks. Not to mention Ayo Edebiri’s New York outing this week, which saw the actor swap a samey black suit for a decadent chocolate brown alternative, complete with brown wide-leg trousers.

Regardless of the silhouette, the neutral hue adds warm undertones to an outfit, making it appear warmer, softer and most importantly richer.

For more proof that brown trousers will be everywhere this autumn and winter—and that you should choose a pair over black—Google Trends shows that “how to style brown” is now searched more than ever. Additionally, Trendanalytics reports that searches for all things brown have increased by 24% in market adoption. The numbers don’t lie. With that in mind, keep scrolling to see how the style set is wearing brown trousers for fall 2025 and find the best pairs to shop along the way.

“I support whatever you choose…” “I have a right to these spaces.” Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled the second trailer for After the Hunt, a fascinating, complex accusation thriller arriving in theaters starting in October. It just premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival and plays next at NYFF this week. The latest film made by acclaimed filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, after Challengers and Queer last year, just as brilliant as anything he has made. A college professor finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil levels an accusation against one of her colleagues and a dark secret from her own past threatens to come to light. What exactly did he do and what is going on? Find out watching in theaters soon. After the Hunt stars Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, Andrew Garfield, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Chloë Sevigny. “Perspective changes everything.” The truth is out there, if you can handle it… This new trailer is a change from the first one, because it seems to be responding to the criticism lobbed against the film. It leans much more into what is happening in this film – focusing on Julia Roberts & the way her character is responding.

Here’s the second official trailer (+ new posters) for Luca Guadagnino’s film After the Hunt, via YouTube:

The screenplay is written by Nora Garrett. It’s produced by Jeb Brody, Brian Grazer, Allan Mandelbaum, and Luca Guadagnino. This initially premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival (read our review) and will also screen at the New York, Zurich, & London Film Festivals next. Amazon MGM Studios will then debut Guadagnino’s After the Hunt film in US theaters starting on October 10th, 2025 with a wide release throughout the fall (starting October 17th). Look better? Italian reporter defends herself after viral Ayo Edebiri interview; ‘I find it striking’

by jummy84 September 10, 2025

An Italian journalist is speaking out after facing strong criticism for her viral interview with Ayo Edebiri, Julia Roberts, and Andrew Garfield. The interview, filmed for ArtsLife TV on September 5, showed reporter Federica Polidoro asking Roberts and Garfield a question about the #MeToo and Black Lives Matter movements in Hollywood. Edebiri, who was sitting with them, was not included in the question, leading many viewers to accuse the journalist of ignoring her.

The viral exchange

Polidoro asked Roberts and Garfield: “Now that the #MeToo era and the Black Lives Matter movement are done, what do we have to expect in Hollywood?”

Her wording surprised all three actors. Roberts quickly responded, “It’s not done.” Garfield agreed, and Edebiri stepped in, saying: “I don’t think it’s done at all. Hashtags might not be used as much, but there’s still important work happening every day.”

Edebiri’s thoughtful response went viral online, with fans praising her for addressing the issue clearly. But many questioned why she was left out of the question in the first place, especially since she is both Black and younger than her co-stars.

Polidoro’s response

On September 8, Polidoro posted a statement on Instagram saying she has been targeted with personal insults, accusations of racism, and cyberbullying since the clip spread.

She explained that her question was meant only for Roberts and Garfield, but she published the full answers from all three actors in her interview.

“I find it striking that, instead of focusing on the thoughtful responses of Ayo Edebiri, Julia Roberts, and Andrew Garfield, the discussion is only about how I phrased the question,” she wrote.

Defending her work

Polidoro said she has worked with international publications for over 20 years and comes from a multi-ethnic, feminist family with a history of immigration.

“The real racists are those who see racism everywhere and try to silence journalism,” she added, saying she may take legal action against those who attacked her online.

The interview was part of the press tour for After the Hunt, a drama starring Roberts, Garfield, and Edebiri. The movie explores themes connected to the #MeToo movement and will be released in theaters on October 17.

Ayo Edebiri Handles Rude Reporter After During Viral Press Conference

by jummy84 September 8, 2025
written by jummy84

After being disregarded during a question about the Black Lives Matter movement, Ayo Edebiri handled the exclusion most graciously— and answered the question anyway.

During a press conference at the Venice Film Festival, Edebiri was accompanied by her co-stars Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield to promote their new movie, After The Hunt.

The film apparently draws comparisons to the #MeToo movement, and reporter Federica Polidoro took it upon herself to ask only Roberts and Garfield about the aftermath of the movements mentioned above, as it relates to Hollywood.

“What [have] we lost in the politically correct era? What [do] we have to expect in Hollywood after the Me Too movement and Black Lives Matter are done?” Polidoro asked before clarifying that she only wanted Roberts and Andrews to respond.

Edeberi, appearing shocked and confused, interjected in the most professional way.

“Yeah, I know that that’s not for me, and I don’t know if it’s purposeful if it’s not me, but I just am curious. I don’t think it’s done, I don’t think it’s done at all,” she replied.

She continued, “I think maybe hashtags might not be used as much, but I do think that there’s work being done by activists, by people, every day, that’s beautiful, important work that’s not finished, that’s really, really, really active – for a reason, because this world is really charged. And that work isn’t finished at all. Maybe [because] there’s not mainstream coverage in the way that it might’ve been […] But I don’t think it means that the work is done.”

Due to the backlash, Polidoro responded to the controversy with a lengthy “#officialstatement” on Instagram.

“Following an interview, I have been subjected to personal insults and attacks because of a question that, for some reason, was not well received by some members of the public. I find it striking that those who unjustly accuse me of racism and consider themselves custodians of justice find acceptable violent language, personal attacks, and cyberbullying,” she wrote.

Later, noting, “I would like to clarify that, rather than focusing on the thoughtful responses of Ayo Edebiri, Julia Roberts, and Andrew Garfield, the discussion continues solely on how I should have phrased the question. All the contributions from those present were reported in full in the published interview, without any omissions.”

Polidoro claimed to not been “aware of any protocol that dictates the order in which questions must be asked in an interview” and added, “To those who unjustly accuse me of racism, I would like to clarify that in my work I have interviewed people of every background and ethnicity, and my own family is multi-ethnic, matriarchal, and feminist, with a significant history of immigration. I have collaborated for over twenty years with numerous national and international publications of all political orientations, always approaching my work with openness and professional rigor. In my view, the real racists are those who see racism everywhere and seek to muzzle journalism, limiting freedom of analysis, critical thinking, and the plurality of perspectives.”

She, however, didn’t explain why she denied posing the question to all three panelists instead of just Roberts and Garfield.

Ayo Edebiri addresses ongoing work of Me Too and Black Lives Matter movements after being excluded from question about them in favour of ‘After The Hunt’ co-stars

by jummy84 September 7, 2025
written by jummy84

Ayo Edebiri has addressed the ongoing work of the Me Too and Black Lives Matter movements after being pointedly excluded from a question in favour of her white co-stars.

While in Venice on a press tour for the upcoming Luca Guadagnino film After The Hunt, which is pegged as a post #MeToo psychological thriller, Andrew Garfield, Julia Roberts and Edebiri were asked what was “lost during the politically correct era”.

The reporter also asked what we have to expect in Hollywood, now that “the Me Too movement and Black Lives Matter are done”.

Roberts then asked them to repeat the question, seemingly inviting the reporter to address all the actors, saying, “With your sunglasses on, I can’t tell which of us you’re talking to.” However, they clarified that the question was only for Garfield and Roberts.

Edebiri looked around the room, stunned after being excluded from the question, saying: “Yeah, I know that that’s not for me, and I don’t know if it’s purposeful if it’s not me, but I just am curious.”

Ayo Edebiri eloquently talks about the political state of the hashtag “Me Too” & the Black Lives Matter movement after being deliberately excluded from the question by an interviewer for their ‘After the Hunt’ press tour.

“I don’t think it’s done,” she continued, to agreement from Roberts. “I don’t think it’s done at all. I think maybe hashtags might not be used as much, but I do think that there’s work being done by activists, by people, every day, that’s beautiful, important work that’s not finished, that’s really, really, really active – for a reason, because this world is really charged.

“And that work isn’t finished at all.”

She said while mainstream coverage of Me Too and Black Lives Matter might not dominate headlines as much as it did at the peak of the respective movements, it didn’t mean that the work was done.

Garfield agreed, and concurred that “the movements are still absolutely alive”, but “maybe not as witnessed or kind of magnified as much in this present moment”.

Fans on social media were shocked she’d been excluded from the question, given not only was she the only Black woman in the room, but her first major acting role had a direct connection to the aftereffects of the BLM movement.

In 2020, Edebiri took over voicing the character Missy in Big Mouth, having been originally voiced by Jenny Slate, a white Jewish actress, who later apologised for playing Missy, a biracial teenager with a white mother and a Black father.

Edebiri spoke to Entertainment Weekly at the time about Slate’s decision, and how broader culture was shifting in order to make space for marginalised actors. “I’ve thinking about a lot about how so much has changed, like even in my lifetime,” The Bear star said.

“Sometimes I’ll watch older movies, and often not even that old, and they’re using slurs that are unbelievable and people are pretending to be people with disabilities and winning Oscars, and you’re like, ‘Huh?’ We discovered that this was wrong and we’ve corrected it.

“I think, to me, this is a faster version of that in a way. It’s like, okay, we realised it, and we’re seeing it happen in real time that what we thought was acceptable maybe isn’t, and we’re learning why and learning to have conversations about it in real time, too.

She later spoke to The New York Times about how the role made her a target of racism online, which she has continued to be as recently as of last year, when Edebiri received “insane death threats and racial slurs” after Elon Musk spread misinformation about her being cast in a “fake reboot” of Pirates of the Caribbean.
