Filmfare Awards, Hindi cinema’s most iconic celebration, marks 70 glorious years. Interestingly, the stage is set for iconic and dynamic hosts. It has been recently revealed that Shah Rukh Khan, the man who has defined romance, charisma is hosting the awards, alongside entertaining filmmaker Karan Johar and the charming Maniesh Paul.

 

The entertainers are set to host the 70th Hyundai Filmfare Awards 2025 with Gujarat Tourism on 11th October 2025 at EKA Arena, Kankaria Lake, Ahmedabad.

‘After the Hunt’ Awards and Box Office Chances After NYFF

When Luca Guadagnino’s “After the Hunt” premiered at the Venice Film Festival in late August, it was greeted with some of the most divided reviews of the filmmaker’s career. Critics (candidly, including myself) were impressed by the performances and filmmaking but left bewildered by first-time screenwriter Nora Garrett’s muddled screenplay that tackles post-#MeToo society, privilege, and power in the academic world. Reviews were, generally speaking, mixed to negative, with a few standouts.

A month later, the film arrived as the opening night gala at the New York Film Festival. So how did his topical drama, about a Yale philosophy professor (Julia Roberts) tied up in her Black student’s (Ayo Edebiri) sexual assault accusation against a white colleague (Andrew Garfield), play at NYFF?

'Tuner'

It opened the highbrow two-week program, overseen by artistic director and former film critic Dennis Lim and managing director Matt Bolish, last Friday at Alice Tully Hall. Past Guadagnino films to play NYFF include “Queer,” “Bones and All,” and “Call Me by Your Name” — all of which scored better receptions throughout their run than “After the Hunt” has so far.

But can new word-of-mouth — not necessarily good, but at the very least new — boost “After the Hunt” at this point?

A sampling of mostly millennial critics and journalists at Friday night’s “After the Hunt” premiere that I spoke with at the official after-party at Tavern on the Green on the edges of Central Park, were also left cold by the movie. It runs long at just shy of 2 hours and 20 minutes, and one journalist I talked to said that, while the film wasn’t necessarily boring, its length led them to feel the pains of an incoherent narrative. There are plot elements that don’t always add up or seem easily ascribed to recognizable human behavior (such as why Julia Roberts’ character Alma keeps a picture that’s extremely revealing about a past secret taped under her bathroom vanity, rather than in the pied-à-terre she maintains as a private office).

But a colleague I’d spoken to who’d had a look at an earlier draft of the screenplay said that many elements were different in that script — including that very one. So we’re curious to hear from screenwriter Garrett about what changed and why.

The film, however, has its admirers, including another critic who appreciated what they felt was its astute look at how trauma is processed differently across generations. (Alma, it’s implied, is twice Edebiri’s character’s age.) “After the Hunt,” intended as Amazon MGM Studios’ big horse in the Oscar race this year, might not make it all the way to the Academy Awards despite hopes for Julia Roberts returning to the Best Actress category since she won in 2001 for “Erin Brockovich.” (Her last Oscar nomination altogether was for Supporting Actress in 2014 for “August: Osage County.”)

But where the movie could remain a player is the HFPA-dismantled Golden Globes, a handful of whose international spectrum of voters attended a packed press conference during the film’s weekend global junket. There, journalists (both in the room and joining via Zoom) asked engaging questions that Roberts and her cast and creative team praised — she was not having it at the Venice Film Festival, particularly when the first question asked at that Italian presser was, “Why does this movie undermine feminism?”

Roberts is a Globes darling, nominated most recently in 2023 for TV’s similarly on-topic “Gaslit” as Martha Mitchell. She’s won three times from 10 nominations, and the capaciousness of having two categories (Musical/Comedy and Drama) for Best Actress gives her room to play in. “After the Hunt” has a shot at playing better for two core audiences — the international coterie, and the Gen X or boomer audiences who didn’t necessarily come of age with such proximity to the topics investigated in this American film — many of which reflect the makeup of the 300-some Golden Globes body.

Amazon MGM Studios opens “After the Hunt” in select theaters on Friday, October 10 followed by a nationwide release on Friday, October 17. How it plays for non-trade critics will factor into its eventual theatrical business. And when the film eventually reaches Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service, fans of Edebiri, Roberts, Garfield, and Guadagnino can tune in with little risk, and share thoughts and soundbites and viral clips of the movie on social media, where it may well find an entirely new life.

He was dressed in a sharp black suit and crisp white shirt, while warmly chatting with his longtime friend Rani Mukerji. The actor sported a salt-and-pepper hairstyle, which many believe is his look for Siddharth Anand’s upcoming film King. This year marked a historic moment in his career, as he received his first-ever National Film Award for Best Actor for Jawan (2023).

Reportedly flying in from Poland, where he has been shooting King, the superstar accepted the honour from President Droupadi Murmu at the grand ceremony. His elegant look, paired with his mature charm, instantly caught attention. During the event, he was seen engaging warmly with Rani Mukerji, who was also honoured.

Adding to the celebratory mood, Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, introduced him as the King of Hearts. He praised his journey from Delhi theatre to global stardom, noting how his smile and dialogue have transcended borders. In response, an emotional Khan blew a flying kiss to the audience, a gesture that was captured and widely shared.

About Jawan

Directed by Atlee, Jawan was released in September 2023. It showcased Khan in a dual role—playing both the vigilante Azad and his father, Vikram Rathore. Also seen were Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi as Kaali, and a formidable team of female vigilantes. All these gave the story both emotional heft and adrenaline-fuelled energy.

Mohanlal, Shilpa Rao, Vaibhavi Merchant, among others, received some of the top honours at the 71st National Film Awards. The awards were announced by the jury last month, and today, the winners will receive their prize from President Droupadi Murmu. The National Film Awards are considered the most prestigious prize for cinema in India, and honour films in all 18 official languages of the country and beyond. The prizes are being given at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.

Mohanlal, Shilpa Rao, Vaibhavi Merchant Bag Top Honours

Mohanlal

Veteran actor Mohanlal received the Dadasaheb Phalke award for his contribution to Indian cinema. The actor even received a standing ovation. Already a recipient of the Padma Shri (2001) and Padma Bhushan (2019), this latest honour cements Mohanlal’s stature as a towering figure in Indian arts.

Director

The Director who won the Best Direction award at the 71st National Film Awards was Sudipto Sen for the film The Kerala Story.

Playback Singer- Female

Shilpa Rao won the 71st National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer. She received the award for the song “Chaleya” from the Hindi film Jawan. Shilpa Rao’s National Award win stands as a testament to her craft and the ability to deliver chartbusters across genres, including party numbers and love tracks. Khuda Jaane, Meherbaan, Chaleya, and Bulleya are some of the most celebrated songs by Shilpa Rao, garnering incredible love from the audience over the years.

Playback Singer- Male

PVNS Rohit won the 71st National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for the song “Premisthunna” from the Telugu film Baby.

Dialogue Writer

Deepak Kingrani won the Best Dialogue Writer award at the 71st National Film Awards for the Hindi film Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai.

Screenplay

At the 71st National Film Awards, Best Screenplay (Original) was earned by Sai Rajesh Neelam for the Telugu film Baby.

Editing

At the 71st National Film Awards, Midhun Murali won the award for Best Editing for the Malayalam film Pookkaalam.

Costume

At the 71st National Film Awards, the award for Best Costume Designer was given to Sachin Lovalekar, Divvya Gambhir, and Nidhhi Gambhir for the Hindi film Sam Bahadur.

Makeup

At the 71st National Film Awards, Shrikant Desai won the Best Makeup Artist award for his work on the film Sam Bahadur.

Music Direction

For the Background Music category, the winner was Harshavardhan Rameshwar for the Hindi film Animal.

For the Songs category, the winner was G. V. Prakash Kumar for the Tamil film, Vaathi.

Lyrics

Kasarla Shyam won the award for Best Lyrics at the 71st National Film Awards. He received the honour for the song “Ooru Palletooru” from the Telugu film Balagam.

Sound Design

For the 71st National Film Awards, Sachin Sudhakaran and Hariharan Muralidharan won the award for Best Sound Design for the Hindi film Animal.

Choreography

Vaibhavi Merchant won the award for Best Choreography at the 71st National Film Awards. The award was for her work on the song Dhindhora Baje Re from the film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. This marks Merchant’s second National Film Award for choreography, with her first being in 1999 for the song “Dholi Taaro Dhol Baaje” from the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

Cinematography

At the 71st National Film Awards, the award for Best Cinematography was given to Prasantanu Mohapatra for the film The Kerala Story.

Supporting Actor

At the 71st National Film Awards, the award for Best Supporting Actor was shared by Vijayaraghavan for the Malayalam film Pookkaalam and M.S. Bhaskar for the Tamil film Parking.

Supporting Actress

Janki Bodiwala and Urvashi jointly won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress at the 71st National Film Awards. They were honoured for their work in the films Vash (Gujarati) and Ullozhukku (Malayalam), respectively.

Child Artists

Sukriti Veni Bandreddi for the Telugu film Gandhi Tatha Chettu.

Kabir Khandare for the Marathi film Gypsy.

Treesha Thosar, Shrinivas Pokale, and Bhargav Jagtap for the Marathi film Naal 2.

Diversity Alliance founder Gabby Austen-Browne wins inaugural Editor’s Choice trophy at this year’s M&IT Awards, which united 750 event professionals on Friday

It was a glittering night at The M&IT Awards 2025 on Friday, with 750 event professionals in attendance at JW Marriott Grosvenor House London to celebrate the great and good of the industry.

Gabby Austen-Browne wins first M&IT Editor’s Choice award

The inaugural M&IT Editor’s Choice award saw Diversity Alliance founder Gabby Austen-Browne honoured for her work to transform the events industry into one that’s more diverse, inclusive and accessible. Presenting the award, M&IT editor Paul Harvey said: “Her work changes lives. Her voice matters. And her legacy – of courage, of resilience and of refusing to accept the status quo – is already being felt by a generation of future event professionals.”

After winning, Austen-Browne said: “It’s an absolute delight to win the Editor’s Choice Award, it’s a big shock, but it’s such an amazing feeling to feel like I’m being recognised for my work and it’s really an honour to be recognised by my peers as well.”

This year’s Personality – Chris Parnham

Chris Parnham, CSO of veSpace International, took home the coveted Personality of the Year award earning a standing ovation. (veSpace also scooped gold in the Best Intermediary Agency Large (40+ employees) category). Presenting the award, ICCA president and Excel London executive director James Rees praised Parnham as a “true driving force” in the meetings and events industry for more than 30 years, who has transformed businesses, inspired teams and shown resilience in the face of enormous challenges.

Rees said: “He stepped up when the industry needed him most, taking on the role of chair at Meeting Needs after the tragic loss of Chris Peacock. Under his leadership, the charity was restructured, strengthened and repositioned as a foundation, securing its mission and future growth.He is admired not just for what he has achieved, but for how he has done it – with authenticity, generosity and a genuine commitment to the people around him. A mentor, a thought leader and a unifying force, he exemplifies the very qualities this award is designed to celebrate.”

After winner, Parnham said: “Wow. Okay, I’m still a bit stunned after that, but it was really nice to hear all those wonderful things about my very long career. I basically take other people’s glory, which I’ve done for the last 25 years, whether it’s the people I work with or the wonderful people at Meeting Needs, hopefully I’ve done good things by them and hopefully inspired some people along the way to also do good things. Look out for your friends and colleagues. Karma comes around. So, be good, be nice.”

The ‘Oscars of the industry’

The ‘Oscars of the industry’ – whose headline sponsor is IHG Hotels & Resorts – kicked off with a rip-roaring set from the Greatest Show following by M&IT editor Paul Harvey, headline sponsor IHG Hotels & Resorts and Meeting Needs current chair Lene Corgan addressing assembled guests.

The first award of the night saw the Victory Service Club’s Daisy Basilio take home the Chris Peacock Rising Star of The Year Award, named in honour of Conference Care founder Chris Peacock, who died from bowel cancer in 2023. Leonardo Hotel & Conference Venue Hinckley Island retained its gold award for Best UK Conference Centre for the second year running, while other victors included a 19th consecutive Best UK Convention Bureau win for Glasgow Convention Bureau, and further wins for KDM Events, Vista Events DMC Greece and Quadrant Events. Celtic Manor Resort was named Best UK Hotel.

“The M&IT Awards are such a highlight in the meetings and events calendar because the winners don’t just showcase the very best of our industry – they’re chosen by the industry itself,” said Harvey, editor of M&IT.

The 50-year-old actress said her pal gave her the nickname “Emmys coach” after Sarah told Katherine, 58, to stay calm and enjoy the awards bash – which was held at the Peacock Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles, California, on September 14.

Sarah told People: “She calls me her Emmys coach because I’ve been really fortunate to have gone and run that gauntlet a couple of times, and I’ve won and I’ve lost.

“I just sort of was trying to remind her of all the things that nobody was there to tell me about, which is to try to breathe and take it all in and enjoy the moment and just try to be where your feet are.”

The American Horror Story actress went on to share that Hollywood legend Jamie Lee Curtis, 66, had previously given her similar advice.

Sarah said of the Freakier Friday actress: “When I was going through a particularly anxious time … [Curtis] said, ‘More will be revealed. Be where your feet are.’ And so I said the same to Katherine.

“[It’s} this beautiful chain of women sharing with other women the things that they’ve learned and helping them sort of move through these very bizarre things that we’re asked to do in terms of Emmy Awards and all that stuff.”

This year’s Primetime Emmys proved to be an unforgettable night for Katherine as she bagged the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series gong for her role as charge nurse Dana Evans in the HBO Max medical drama, The Pitt.

She said in her emotional acceptance speech: “Oh, I am so proud and honoured to receive this award from the Academy.

“My whole career, I wanted to work for John Wells [Executive Producer of The Pitt], and he elevates everything in his wake. John, I’m so much better when you’re around, mostly because I don’t want to get fired.

“Thank you, Scott Gemmill [Executive Producer of The Pitt], the writers and all the nurses that inspired Dana, Noah Wyle [who plays Dr. Michael “Robby” Rabinovitch in The Pitt], oh my God!”

And Katherine closed out her acceptance speech by thanking her family.

She said: “And lastly, my children [son Henry Hopper and daughter Eloise Show], for making me real and my beautiful husband, Grant Show, for helping me always with everything.”

The 36th annual International Bluegrass Music Association Awards show felt a little different this go-round. Sure, the annual gathering of the genre overtook Chattanooga, Tennessee, for the first time this past week. But the bigger story was Billy Strings, who was in attendance to receive Entertainer of the Year honors.

“It just feels good to be back here and to be welcomed,” Strings tells Rolling Stone backstage. “And to also let these folks know that I’m still here with them. I haven’t abandoned bluegrass. I very much am still wanting to be here.”

A multifaceted guitar wizard who has singlehandedly brought bluegrass to the arena level, the singer-songwriter took home his fourth Entertainer win. Held at the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Auditorium, the award show was hosted by the banjo duo of Alison Brown and Steve Martin.

“Sometimes I feel that music of certain frequencies we’re drawn to at different points in time,” Brown says. “I think the authenticity of bluegrass music is something that speaks to people in the age of big-tech and A.I.”

For Strings, who was at IBMAs all this week, being present was more than just a full circle moment. It was also a chance to witness the bridging of generations of artists whose core resides in the storied “high, lonesome sound.” At one point during the conference, Strings jumped onstage with 90-year-old Paul Williams, best known for his work with bluegrass pillar Jimmy Martin & the Sunny Mountain Boys.

“The scene has changed, and actually for the better,” says Greg Cahill of bluegrass act the Special Consensus, who are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. “People were worried about traditional bluegrass dying. Thank God for Billy Strings. He’s brought all these young people into [bluegrass].”

“I’m going to try to mix up the camo with the tie-dye a little bit, stir up the Nag Champa with the ‘Roll Tide,’” Strings said in his keynote address earlier this week. “We have to continue to welcome new voices, whose unique perspectives and experience will enrich our collective artistic expression. We’ve got to allow these fresh ideas to mingle with tradition.”

Strings’ sentiments rang true throughout the award show, especially when it came to this younger generation of musicians breaking into the mainstream. From Vickie Vaughn getting Bass Player of the Year to East Nash Grass’ Maddie Denton receiving Fiddle Player honors, these are crystal-clear signs of a new, bountiful era for bluegrass.

“There’s just something about this music that’s pure at its truest form,” says Sierra Hull, who was honored with her seventh Mandolin Player of the Year trophy. “When you can actually come and hear these instruments — just wire and wood and these three-part harmonies — there’s a truth to it that speaks to a lot of people.”

Those truths go back numerous decades, underscored by those being inducted into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame during the ceremony. This year’s newest members included Hot Rize, the Bluegrass Cardinals, and the late Arnold Shultz, an old-time Black musician who remains a pioneering influence on the formation of bluegrass.

“The bluegrass pendulum swings left and right, to the progressive side and back to traditional,” said Hot Rize mandolinist Tim O’Brien. “When Hot Rize started, it was a good time to run down the middle.”

Formed in 1978, Hot Rize were trailblazers when it came to keeping one foot in the traditions of bluegrass, the other in the natural progression of musical creativity and sonic curiosity — the result being where we stand today with the names like Strings, Hull, Molly Tuttle, and Sierra Ferrell.

“Our hair was long and our tongues were in our cheeks,” O’Brien says. “But we fed on the tried and true ingredients [of bluegrass]. We were just jamming, but we hit enough of the right notes.”

Fiddle virtuosos Jason Carter and Michael Cleveland garnered a handful of honors for their astounding record Carter & Cleveland, including Song, Album and Collaborative Recording of the Year. Each time their names were called, Carter would help Cleveland, who is blind, up to the podium to receive the awards, grins of gratitude appearing ear-to-ear.

“Michael has been one of my best friends for many years. He was the best man at my wedding,” Carter says. “We have played a lot of music together and have been talking about doing this record for 15 years. Kind of a dream come true to get to play with one of the greatest fiddle players that’s ever drawn a bow.”

The culmination of the awards show came with a poignant rendition of the late Ralph Stanley’s “Little Birdy.” With a murderers’ row of talent overtaking the stage, Strings was front and center alongside Del McCoury, Hull, Brown, Martin, Justin Moses, Jim Lauderdale, Deanie Richardson, and more.

“Little birdie, little birdie/Won’t you sing to me your song,” Strings howled into the heavens. “Got a short time to stay here/And a long time to be gone.”

It’s that time of the year again when Bollywood comes together to honour the finest achievements in Hindi cinema at one of India’s most esteemed award ceremonies, the Filmfare Awards 2025. Over the years, Hindi films have delivered countless unforgettable moments and Filmfare continues to play a key role in celebrating the visionaries who are shaping the future of Indian cinema. For decades, the iconic Black Lady has stood as a symbol of excellence and credibility in the industry. The 70th Filmfare Awards 2025, in association with Gujarat Tourism, promises to be a glittering night dedicated to showcasing the very best of Hindi cinema from 2024.

Date and Location

The date for the prestigious awards ceremony has been fixed for October 11, 2025. It is being held at EKA Arena, Ahmedabad. A press conference was held to announce the event, which included Gujarat’s Chief Minister, Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel.



A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Shri Prabhav Joshi, Commissioner & Managing Director, TCGL, and Mr. Rohit Gopakumar, Director of Worldwide Media and CEO of ZENL, BCCL TV & Digital Network, in the presence of dignitaries. Hosting this esteemed event for the second consecutive year will further strengthen Gujarat’s positioning as a thriving cultural and cinematic destination. This continued momentum aligns with the state’s efforts under the dynamic Cinematic Tourism Policy launched in September 2022, which aims to establish Gujarat as a preferred hub for film and cultural events.
