The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards are here. The annual event, which takes place in New York City’s UBS Arena, is being simulcast on its longtime cable network as well as, for the first time ever, CBS.
LL Cool J emcees the event, which will honor legends of music like Mariah Carey (with the Video Vanguard Award), Busta Rhymes (Rock the Bells Visionary Award), and Ricky Martin (Latin Icon Award). The event will also feature performances from artists such as Alex Warren, Busta Rhymes, J Balvin ft. DJ Snake, Ricky Martin, Sabrina Carpenter, sombr, Conan Gray, Doja Cat, Jelly Roll, Post Malone, and Tate McRae.
Among the nominees for the evening’s biggest prizes: Taylor Swift (who is not expected to attend), Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar, ROSÉ, Carpenter, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, and Charli xcx. Presenters include Ashlee Simpson Ross, Brittany Snow, Ciara, Drew Barrymore, KPop Demon Hunter‘s EJAE, REI AMI + Audrey Nuna (Huntr/x), Ice Spice, Jessica Simpson, Latto, Livvy Dunne, Malin Akerman, Megan Stalter, Nikki Glaser, and Paris Hilton.

Roommates, history is on the line at the 2025 VMAs. Today (Sept. 7), the MTV Video Music Awards returns with more than trophies at stake! Two music industry ICONS, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, are competing to become the most awarded artist in the award show’s history. Let’s get into what else viewers can expect from this year’s VMAs.
On Sunday, LL Cool J will host the Video Music Awards, which will begin at 8 p.m. Eastern. CBS will broadcast the show for the first time ever, but it will also be simulcast on MTV. For those who prefer streaming, the VMAs will also be streamed on Paramount+ in the United States, per the Associated Press. MTV is holding the show at the UBS Arena on New York’s Long Island.
This year, Lady Gaga tops the 2025 MTV Video Music Award nominations with 12, ending Taylor Swift’s two-year run in the top spot.
But it’s the ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ singer and the “Cowboy Carter” star who may make headlines. Currently, both powerhouses are tied for the title of most total VMAs in their careers. Taylor and Beyoncé have 30 each. They’re also only nominated in the artist of the year category at the 2025 VMAs. So, if one of them wins today, they will claim victory. It’s unclear whether Beyoncé or Taylor will attend the show.
If Swift wins, it would give her a prominent stage to give updates about her forthcoming 12th studio album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl.’ It’s set to be released on Oct. 3. Additionally, Taylor could use the spotlight to shout out her new fiancé, Travis Kelce. As previously reported, the pair announced their engagement late last month in a five-photo joint post on Instagram.
The late Ozzy Osbourne will be celebrated fittingly when some of rock’s biggest names take the stage in his honor. Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, British firebrand YUNGBLUD and Nuno Bettencourt will unite to deliver a medley of Osbourne’s greatest hits. The tribute is meant to highlight his impact on generations of musicians.
Additionally, Mariah Carey will receive the 2025 Video Vanguard Award. Previous recipients include Katy Perry, Shakira, Beyoncé and Madonna.
Meanwhile, Busta Rhymes will receive the first-ever MTV VMA Rock the Bells Visionary Award during the show, and Ricky Martin will be honored with the inaugural Latin Icon Award. Both will perform.
Other performers will include Conan Gray, Tate McRae, Doja Cat, Jelly Roll, Post Malone, Alex Warren, J Balvin, Sabrina Carpenter and sombr.

It’s time to gear up for one of the most chaotic awards shows of the year: The VMAs.
That’s right, the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards are scheduled to kick off in just a few hours, and it’s bound to be an eventful evening. How will Sabrina Carpenter top making out with an alien, and what kind of spectacle can we expect from Lady Gaga? Will Beyoncé or Taylor Swift break their VMAs tie by winning artist of the year? Only time will tell.
For now, here’s everything we do know about the evening, from performers to no-shows. Most importantly, we have all the details on when and how to watch the 2025 VMAs.
On September 7, the MTV Video Music Awards will air live from New York’s UBS Arena at 8 pm ET.
While the MTV VMAs typically air on—you guessed it—MTV, you will also be able to watch on CBS or stream the festivities on Paramount+.
LL Cool J is hosting the VMAs for the second time, which will mark a full-circle moment. Back in 1997, LL Cool J was the first rapper to recieve the MTV Video Vanguard Award, which was presented to him by Mariah Carey. This year, Carey take home the prestigious award.
Aside from Carey, who is set to perform a medley of her hits, we will see a performance from this year’s most-nominated artist, Lady Gaga. Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, KATSEYE, Conan Gray, Tate McRae, and Lola Young will also grace the stage, among others.
Ricky Martin and Busta Rhymes, who are two of the night’s big honorees, are also scheduled to perform. Martin will take home the Latin Icon Award, while Busta Rhymes will receive the MTV VMA Rock the Bells Visionary Award.
Lady Gaga scored 12 nominations, while Bruno Mars came in second with 11. Tonight will also be a big night for Sabrina Carpenter, who is nominated in eight categories, including video of the year. Here’s a full list of nominees:
