Manisha Koirala is one of Bollywood’s finest actresses. With a career spanning over three decades, she has managed to carve a niche in the industry. She was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. For the unversed, on the personal front, Manisha Koirala married Nepali businessman Samrat Dahal in 2010. However, their marriage was short-lived, and they mutually parted ways in 2012. Let’s look back at the time when she opened up about her divorce.

What Did Manisha Koirala Say About Her Divorce?

In an interview with Zoom, Manisha Koirala candidly spoke about her divorce and finding a new life partner. She said, “I’ve seen lots of ups and downs, and some people are lucky who don’t get so many highs and lows and have a very peaceful life. I’m also lucky that I’ve had a huge amalgamation of experiences. All I can do is hope that at least my outlook on life is not bitter.”

“My work is on that. My work is on what I can change and how I see life, like whether I see a glass half empty or half full. Do I perceive life to be traumatic? No. Whenever a traumatic experience happens, don’t I learn more about it? Don’t I become richer in terms of experiences, in terms of first-hand experience of such huge trauma?” she added.

Manisha Koirala On The Motto She Lives By

Speaking about the motto of her life, the Khamoshi actress said, “I have lots of flaws. I get anxiety attacks, and I do get insecure. I have all those things that everyone has. I feel once you go through so much, you realize that there’s another side to it. You can pick yourself up and walk. They say life is not about falling but about picking yourself up after every fall and walking. That’s the motto I live by.”

What Did Manisha Koirala Say About Finding New Love?

When the actress was asked whether she is considering having a new life partner and finding love again, she answered, “I do. I’ll be lying if I say I don’t. I definitely feel as if there was a male figure in my life. If there was a partner in my life, probably it’ll be nice to have that. But I have to be very honest: main uske liye intezar karke apna time waste nahi karungi. Agar meri kismat mein likha hai; toh I’ll get that. Agar nahi toh, toh bhi thik hai.”

“Mujhe lagta hai, I’m living a full life. I have very peaceful and loving family support. I’ve got a great brother and sister-in-law, great parents and good and loving friends and people. Other than that, work is going great. I enjoy travelling, there’s no financial crunch, by the grace of God. So, I’m in a very good space. I feel complete with myself, mentally, emotionally, and physically, in every way. Main toh full life lead kar rahi hu. Aisa kuch nahi hai ki mai incomplete hu, but yes, if I had, then I’d have enjoyed it. If I had a good companion, then why not?” Manisha Koirala concluded.

EXCLUSIVE: Shakti Kapoor Was Not The Original Choice To Play Crime Master Gogo In Andaz Apna Apna; Tinnu Anand Reveals Being Offered The Role FIRST

Tinnu Anand was originally cast as the iconic character Crime Master Gogo in Andaz Apna Apna; however, Shakti Kapoor later replaced him. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, the filmmaker and actor revealed he was supposed to play the role in the Aamir-Salman starrer. Tinnu recalled the time when Shakti Kapoor yelled at his fans, asking for a selfie. Scroll down to read below and watch the full interview.

Tinnu Anand Reveals Shakti Kapoor’s Crime Master Gogo Was Actually Supposed To Be Him

Speaking of Shakti Kapoor’s infamous Crime Master Gogo from Andaz Apna Apna, Tinnu Anand revealed an interesting story. He shared, “Crime Master Gogo ka character bhi mera hi tha. Log nahi jaante, kyunki Raj aur meri bahut dosti ho gayi thi. Damini ki hai humne, Ghatak ki hai. Ab Crime Master Gogo ka sawaal aaya ji, toh Raj ji ne mere ko kaha, ‘Tinnu, ek role hai. Kuch clear cut nahi aa raha hai, lekin uska naam Crime Master Gogo hai.’ Maine kaha, ‘Raj, mere upar wale maale pe ek Sardar ki family rehti hai.”

He added, “Unki ek beti hai, bachchi hai, lekin itni confident ladki hai yaar. Ghanti maaregi, mere sofa pe aake baith jaayegi. Paon ke upar paon rakh degi. Maid ko bulaayegi—‘Ek Coke la dena.’ Piye gi, rakh degi. Main wahin khada hota hoon. Kabhi thank you bolke chali jaati hai, kabhi bina thank you bole hi nikal jaati hai.’ Yeh roz hota tha.”

Tinnu Anand On His Experiment

He continued, “Maine ek experiment try kiya. Aaj subah jab woh aayi, aise baithi, main apne bedroom mein tha. Bedroom se bahar aaya toh maine dekha—’Kaise ho?’ toh she said, ‘Fine.’ Abhi Gokula aaya nahi tha, usne peeche mud ke dekha, ‘Kya hua Gokula ko?’ Maine kaha, ‘Aa raha hai, aa raha hai.’ Aur phir maine usko aise dekha—uski aankhon mein aankhen daal ke. Aap bhi try kijiye kabhi. Blink mat kijiye. Aapko lagega kuch gadbad hai. Dekhiye—blink kiya na? Fir main bola, ‘Kya dekh rahi hai? Yeh jo teri moti moti aankhen hain na, woh main hathheli pe rakhunga, nikaal ke, aur uske saamne goti khelunga.’”

The filmmaker added, “Uska expression kabhi dekha hi nahi tha maine. Aise (the child got scared)karke bhaagi, upar jaake ro rahi thi. Maa ne kabhi nahi dekha tha usko roते hue. Very proud parents—kyunki bachchi roti nahi thi. Aur aaj aise ro rahi thi ki bolo mat. Aur aise hi character build hua tha set pe. Aamir Khan kehta tha, ‘Woh do din jo humne enjoy kiye aapke saath, kaam kam ho raha tha, hansi zyada nikal rahi thi.’ Dono ke saath jo main kar raha tha, sab improvise tha.”

Tinnu Anand Recalls Shakti Kapoor Yelling At Fans

Tinnu Anand recalled how Shakti Kapoor recently yelled at fans. He shared, “Shakti aur main recently airport pe the. Kyunki hamara plane delayed tha, toh humne kaha chalo coffee pee lete hain. Café mein gaye. Café mein itne mein teen—do ladke, ek ladki—aaye hamare table par, aur bole, ‘Sir, sir, selfie, selfie!’ Shakti Kapoor unpe chillaa diye, ‘You people are college students, don’t you know manners? We are talking to each other, guftagu kar rahe the. We were talking about something, and you came and interrupted us. When we finish, you stand there, I will give it to you!’”

He concluded, “I was shocked. Toh maine kaha, ‘Shakti, tere ko apne din yaad hain? Jab tu struggling tha, tu struggling only for this, right? Ki log aayenge, selfie–autograph lenge, photograph lenge, ladkiyan aayengi. Aaj jab aa rahe hain tere se maangne, tu rude kyon ho raha hai yaar? Bas zara wait kar lijiye. Do tareeke hote hain baat karne ke.’ He said, ‘Sorry sir.’ He called them and said, ‘Come, take, take a selfie.’”

Tinnu Anand was recently seen in Good Bad Ugly, Crazxy and Dil Dosti Aur Dogs. All these films were released in 2025.

Not every film that receives lukewarm or even hostile reception fades into obscurity. Some films, initially considered flops, find a second life through television reruns, streaming platforms, or sheer word of mouth, eventually achieving cult status. Here are seven such Bollywood films that overcame their initial failures to become timeless classics.

1. Andaz Apna Apna (1994)

  • IMDb Rating: 8/10
  • Director: Rajkumar Santoshi
  • Streaming On: Prime Video

Plot: Amar and Prem, two dim-witted friends with big dreams, aspire to marry a rich heiress, Raveena Bajaj, to solve their financial troubles. Their bumbling antics lead to a series of comedic misadventures, rivalries, and a showdown with a notorious criminal.

Initial Reception: When it released, Andaz Apna Apna faced stiff competition from other films and struggled at the box office. The comedy, ahead of its time, was not immediately appreciated by the audience.

Cult Status: Over the years, the film’s witty dialogues, quirky characters, and hilarious scenarios have earned it a massive following. It is now considered one of the greatest comedies in Indian cinema, with fans still quoting its iconic lines like “Teja main hoon, mark idhar hai.”

2. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983)

  • IMDb Rating: 8.3/10
  • Director: Kundan Shah
  • Streaming On: Jio Hotstar

Plot: Two bumbling photographers inadvertently capture a murder on camera and find themselves embroiled in a web of corruption and deceit involving powerful politicians and businessmen.

Initial Reception: Despite being a satire on the rampant corruption in India, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro did not perform well at the box office. The dark humor and complex narrative were not immediately embraced by the audience.

Cult Status: Over time, its sharp social commentary, memorable characters, and iconic scenes, like the Mahabharata play, have turned it into a cult classic. It is now celebrated as one of the best satirical films in Indian cinema.

3. Pyaasa (1957)

  • IMDb Rating: 8.3/10
  • Director: Guru Dutt
  • Streaming On: Prime Video

Plot: The film tells the story of Vijay, a struggling poet who is disillusioned with the materialistic world. His work is only appreciated after his supposed death, revealing the hypocrisy of society.

Initial Reception: Upon its release, Pyaasa received a lukewarm response. Its melancholic tone and unconventional narrative did not resonate with the audience at the time.

Cult Status: Today, Pyaasa is hailed as a masterpiece. Its poignant lyrics, soulful music, and profound exploration of themes like love, ambition, and societal hypocrisy have garnered critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base worldwide.

4. Agneepath (1990)

  • IMDb Rating: 7.6/10
  • Director: Mukul S. Anand
  • Streaming On: Prime Video & Netflix

Plot: The film follows Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, a man seeking revenge against the gangster who killed his father. His journey is marked by violence and moral dilemmas.

Initial Reception: Agneepath was not a commercial success upon release. Amitabh Bachchan’s deep voice and the film’s gritty tone were not well-received by the audience.

Cult Status: Despite its initial failure, Agneepath’s powerful performances, particularly by Amitabh Bachchan and Danny Denzongpa, and its gripping storyline have earned it a cult following. The film is now considered a classic, and its dialogues are still popular.

5. Silsila (1981)

  • IMDb Rating: 7.2/10
  • Director: Yash Chopra
  • Streaming On: Prime Video

Plot: A tale of love and infidelity, Silsila explores the complex relationships between Amit, Shobha, and Chandni, set against the backdrop of societal expectations and personal desires.

Initial Reception: Silsila was a commercial disappointment. The real-life rumors of the lead actors’ romantic involvement overshadowed the film, affecting its box office performance.

Cult Status: Over the years, the film’s nuanced portrayal of love and relationships, coupled with its melodious music, has endeared it to audiences. It is now regarded as one of Yash Chopra’s finest works, capturing the essence of romantic turmoil.

6. Lamhe (1991)

  • IMDb Rating: 7.2/10
  • Director: Yash Chopra
  • Streaming On: Prime Video

Plot: The film narrates the story of Viren, who falls in love with Pallavi, only to later develop feelings for her daughter, Pooja, creating a complex web of emotions and societal challenges.

Initial Reception: Lamhe faced backlash for its unconventional plot and bold theme of an older man falling in love with a much younger woman. It failed to impress at the box office.

Cult Status: Despite its initial failure, Lamhe’s touching performances, beautiful cinematography, and memorable songs have earned it a special place in Bollywood history. It is now celebrated for its progressive narrative and emotional depth.

7. Swades (2004)

  • IMDb Rating: 8.2/10
  • Director: Ashutosh Gowariker
  • Streaming On: Netflix

Plot: In this film, an NRI working at NASA returns to India to find his nanny. His journey of self-discovery leads him to embrace his roots and work towards the betterment of a rural village.

Initial Reception: Swades did not perform as expected at the box office. Its slow pace and lack of commercial elements did not appeal to the mass audience initially.

Cult Status: Swades is now considered a gem, celebrated for its heartfelt narrative and Shah Rukh Khan’s powerful performance. Its themes of patriotism, social responsibility, and rural empowerment resonate deeply with viewers, making it a beloved classic.

These films remind us that box office numbers aren’t the only measure of a movie’s success. Sometimes, it takes years for the true value of a film to be recognized. As audiences evolve, so do their tastes and perceptions, allowing once-overlooked movies to shine. These seven films have not only become cult classics but also serve as a testament to the timeless nature of compelling storytelling and strong performances in Bollywood.
