R Madhavan says white women once avoided Indian men but not anymore: ‘Now they think we are entrepreneurs, say hello’

Actor R Madhavan recently recalled that a few years ago, when Indian men travelled abroad, white women would often be cautious around them, assuming they were trying to flirt. He added that this perception has completely changed now.

Madhavan will soon be seen in Anshul Sharma’s De De Pyaar De 2

Madhavan reveals

Madhavan spoke about how the perception of male characters on screen has evolved during his appearance on BookMyShow’s Unscripted show on YouTube. He was joined by his De De Pyaar De 2 co-stars Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh and Meezan Jafri for the candid conversation.

Madhavan recalled that a few years ago, when Indian men travelled abroad, gori ladkiyan (white women) would often be cautious around them, assuming they wanted to flirt with. He added that this perception has completely changed now. In fact, he joked that white women today are more likely to approach Indian men, believing they’re entrepreneurs.

“Sari gori ladkiyan aise dekhti thi jaise unko line marne aaye hain (When we used to go abroad and go to a bar, all the white women would look at us like we were there to hit on them). Now, it is such that when an Indian enters a space, four white women walk towards us thinking we are some entrepreneur and they want to say hello. I have not seen that Indian in the movies yet,” he said, adding that he wants to see this version of Indian men in the movies.

Speaking about his desire to collaborate with new directors, Madhavan said that with years of experience behind him, he now wants to blend his learnings with a filmmaker’s fresh and refined storytelling approach. “The thing that is getting in my way right now is the filmyness of the industry in terms of the way they think. They all are making stories to please their mentors,” he said.

About Madhavan’s work

Madhavan will soon be seen in Anshul Sharma’s De De Pyaar De 2, the sequel to Akiv Ali’s 2019 film De De Pyaar De. The sequel also stars Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, Gautami Kapoor, and Meezaan Jafri. The sequel appears to pick up where the first film left off. De De Pyaar De 2 is produced by T-Series Films and Luv Films. It will be released in theatres on 14 November.

He will also be seen in Dhurandhar. Some days back, Ranveer Singh unveiled the first poster featuring actor R Madhavan from Dhurandhar. Taking to Instagram, Ranveer shared the poster and called Madhavan’s character “Charioteer of Karma.” Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar also stars Ranveer, Arjun, Akshaye Khanna, and Sanjay Dutt. The movie is jointly produced by Aditya Dhar, Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar. Dhurandhar is slated to release in cinemas on December 5, 2025, followed by a premiere on Netflix.

Duffer Brothers tease ‘Nothing is normal anymore’ in Stranger Things

30 October 2025

Stranger Things’ creators have warned “nothing is normal anymore” in the upcoming series.

Duffer Brothers have offered some teasers for the new season of Stranger Things

The horror drama series has just released a full new trailer for the upcoming season five, depicting Hawkins under military quarantine, and Ross and Matt Duffer have teased that things are “in chaos” right from the first episode.

Ross Duffer told Netflix’s Tudum:“I think what’s unique about this season is that it starts a little bit in chaos because our heroes ultimately lost at the end of Season 4.

“We usually set up their normal life and how they’re going about school, and then we introduce the supernatural element. But in this case, this season is sprinting from the start.”

His twin brother added: “[The gang are] not experiencing normal life. Nothing in Hawkins is normal anymore.

“Their movement is restricted, and there are Big Brother cameras everywhere. So not only are they active — their everyday, normal lives are anything but.”

Executive producer Shawn Levy has promised fans are in for a visual spectacular with the new episodes, but insisted that hasn’t come at the cost of an “emotional” story.

Shawn, who directed two of the new episodes, said: “The action is next level, the visual effects are next level, but I’m also happy to say that the emotional center remains the same. “And part of the magic of this show is that even as we evolve, even as the storytelling becomes more epic, it’s always anchored in these characters that we love.”

The first installment of season five premieres on 26 November and is set in the autumn of 1987, with the central characters determined to find and kill Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower).

An official synopsis teased: “But [Vecna] has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown.

“Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread.

“The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.”

New Special, ‘I Don’t Wanna Work Anymore’

by jummy84 October 10, 2025
written by jummy84

For somebody who’d allegedly prefer a life of leisure, Phoebe Robinson sure hustles.

The writer-actress has a deal with Sony Pictures TV, via her Tiny Reparations production company. There’s the literary imprint of the same name, where she’s published her first three books of comedy. And, more pressingly, there’s the stand-up career that’s just birthed her latest comedy special. I Don’t Wanna Work Anymore is now on YouTube. And if you don’t watch it, well, Robinson will be that much further from retirement.

Speaking in early October, the 2 Dope Queens and Everything’s Trash alum spoke about the communal joy of raunchy jokes, why she has no plans to discuss her new hour with her family this holiday season and her firm belief that people should take an “Are You Dumb As Fuck or Not?” test before they’re allowed to to record a podcast. Speaking of podcasts… an extended version of this conversation will be featured in the premiere of The Hollywood Reporter’s latest, out later this month. (And, no, I did not take the test.)

You say you don’t want to work anymore, but clearly enjoy what you do. What part of your job could you do without?

If I never had another meeting in my life, I’d be fine. I don’t want to do a general meeting. “Hey, what are you watching right now?” I don’t give a shit. We’re all watching 20 different shows. I just love writing, I love doing stand-up. I love doing the creative stuff. The admin things and the networky things… I only have a certain amount of bandwidth.

The title of the special is work-focused, but I’d argue it’s really about sex. When it comes to personal material, do you have a line that you won’t cross in terms of what you’ll share on stage?

I always want to be respectful… and I know that may not be what you think when you see my stand-up. And by that I mean that I never want to punch down. I never want to just completely eviscerate someone. The way that I talk and joke about sex on stage, it’s fun and liberating. I think other people feel that way, too. They just need to hear someone on stage say the things that I’m saying. At least that’s what I’m telling myself.

Have you had any reactions to the contrary?

I mean, I’m definitely going to tell my parents to skip this one. Just skip it, Phil and Octavia! There is nothing here for you. Not one solitary sweet thing. Please don’t put yourself through it. I’ve got to go home for Thanksgiving. I don’t want the stress. We’ve got to make conversation over vegan turkey, so let’s just skip this awkward part, go see Wicked: For Good and pretend everything was fine. This special is kind of wild.

The stand-up special economy has changed dramatically over the last few years. How did you end up going with YouTube?

There’s just an over-saturation. For me, I want to bet on myself and see where this goes. I like what YouTube does for a lot of stand-up comedians. It’s just a very open space. It’s really hard to stand out on streaming platforms when they’re dropping one or two specials a week. I don’t want to get lost in the shuffle. So I wanted to go my own way. I think it’s very in line with my career. Jessica [Williams] and I started 2 Dope Queens because we didn’t feel there were enough gay people and people of color doing late night. I started my own imprint because it was hard for me to sell my first book in 2015. People were telling me that people don’t buy books written by Black women. To me, this doesn’t feel like anything new.

Your last series, Everything’s Trash, aired in 2022. You’ve now got projects in various stages of development. What is the biggest obstacle to getting a green light?

Hollywood is so cray cray right now. I have a first look with Sony TV, and they’ve been great so far. We have a good mix of half-hour comedies and a couple of dramas. I have a couple of projects I’m trying to develop for me to start in. I think the biggest hurdle is that there’s a reticence to doing something original or left of center. It’s so funny you hear these platforms and networks. They’re like, “Oh, we want a Fleabag or a Beef.” All these shows that are so singular and have a specific voice. Then when you pitch them those things, sometimes they’ll try and tell you all the ways in which it won’t work. I’m like, “Yeah, it could also work, so how about we try that?” It’s been really tricky, but I’m holding out hope that the tide will turn.

When you say left of center, do you mean quirky or, like, progressive or politically left?

I think both. But it is also a big time for procedurals, and I don’t think anyone turns to me to be like, “We need Phoebe Robinson to write a procedural!”

But if you had to make a procedural, what does a Phoebe Robinson procedural look like?

I thought Justified, on FX, was a really good way of doing a procedural. Also, the Matlock reboot! I tell everyone how good that show is. That is truly a straight down the middle procedural, but the writing, the acting are also really great. I would want something that’s a little gritty, a little interesting, a little sexy, a little something for me to star in opposite Andrew Lincoln. I just saw him do a play in London. He’s so absolutely brilliant and I would love to see him lead another show.

Can you tell me a little bit about your ongoing Instagram series, Thirsty Thursday? You pen these incredibly well-written and totally perverse odes to the famous men you find attractive.

I’ve always been a horny person, and I just wanted to have a fun way of talking about these hot celebs. So, I write these little horny sonnets about everyone from Jason Momoa and Denzel Washington to Tom Holland. It’s been fun, and people get the joke. I’m just having a good time objectifying these guys. Sometimes I think, “Oh, is this person going to be problematic?” So far I’ve been good. But let’s see.

Ever hear back from any of them?

I wrote one about Milo Ventimiglia. I just think he is so dreamy, and he DM-ed me. Mandy Moore sent it to him, which is so wild. And he was like, “Thank you so much. It was so funny.” The fact that the guys get it and know it’s not wild or crazy, that’s really cute. I did Steven Colbert’s show and he asked me to do one on him, so I did.

Any dates come out of this yet?

No. One thing I will tell you about hot famous men: They’re not like, “Wow, she can write! That’s who I want to date — someone who’s witty with the pen, someone who’s going to challenge me. Oh yeah, that gets my dick hard.” That has not happened. But there’s still hope. Maybe one day.

You just ran the Berlin marathon. Congratulations! And, a totally inappropriate pivot, did you see Harry Styles out there?

That man is so fast. I did not see him. It was so hot, and he was wearing all black, long sleeves! This guy’s a true athlete… I’m so jealous of him. But I just started running two years ago and I’m already running four marathons, so I feel like I’m doing OK.

Before I let you go, I’m wondering, as a podcasting pioneer, what are your thoughts on the saturation point we seem to have reached? You have not been shy in sharing your critiques of the podcast bros.

There are too many people with microphones. And most of them don’t even listen. You don’t know how to interview. You don’t know how to carry a conversation. You should have to take an exam before you can launch a podcast. It’s called “Are You Dumb As Fuck or Not?” I’ve listened to some of these podcasts, and hurts my brain. Now these guys are coming along with their stupid ass platforms and their nonsensical opinions; they’re flooding the space. It’s not great. I have hope that some people will go away from podcasting.

I am not miserable anymore

by jummy84 October 7, 2025
written by jummy84

Taylor Swift has said she can no longer “relate” to the ‘Tortured Poets Department’ era as she is “not miserable anymore”.

The singer released her 12th studio album ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ on Friday (October 3), an album largely put together during her all-conquering ‘Eras Tour’ in 2024.

In a new interview with Scott Mills on BBC Radio 2, she has reflected on the shift in emotional focus between her last two albums. “The cool thing about this record is that I’m in a very similar space in my life as to when I wrote it and now that I’m putting it out, which is nice,” she said.

“it’s nice when those things are not incongruous. You know, like with the last record, I was in such a different place in my life when I wrote it. Just miserable. And then when I put it out, I was so happy. So it was like, ah, I love this art. I love this beautiful art about misery. I, however, am not miserable anymore so it feels weird to talk about the record because it’s like, you can be proud of the work, but you can also just not relate to that person you were.”

It is widely believed that much of 2024’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ was inspired by her brief relationship with The 1975’s Matty Healy in the summer of 2023, although she has never confirmed this herself.

The record’s title track refers to an ex who smoked, name checks Healy’s former close friend Lucy Dacus and seems to allude to The 1975’s ‘Chocolate’, while ‘The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived’ is also speculated to be about Healy.

Swift’s current positive outlook can partly be attributed to her recent engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce, who she has been dating since 2023. In the BBC Radio 2 interview, she said: “I’m really right now just like really stoked about the idea that I get to marry this person.

She dismissed rumours that she might quit music after marriage, calling the idea “shockingly offensive.” Laughing, she added: “That’s not why people get married – to quit their job.”

The singer continued, saying of her fans: “Oh, I know they love to panic sometimes, but it’s like I love the person that I am with because he loves what I do and he loves how much I am fulfilled by making art and making music.

“That’s the coolest thing about Travis, like he is so passionate about what he does, that me being passionate about what I do, it connects us. There’s no point in time where he’s gonna be like, ‘I’m really upset that you’re still making the music’,” she added.

She has also recently said that she used to fear that her songwriting would “dry up” if she were ever in a happy relationship. “What if writing is directly tied to my torment and pain?” she said. “And it turns out, that’s not the case at all, and we just were catching lightning in a bottle with this record.”

NME gave ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ three stars, writing: “To seek escapism is not a sin, but the best pop music makes the personal feel like life or death. ‘Speak Now’,  ‘Reputation’, ‘Folklore’: her greatest works could be genuinely transformative. For the first time, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ sees Swift not catalysed into artistic growth by love, but merely comfortably secured by it.”

Deepika Padukone’s 8-Hour ‘Spirit’: Why She’s Not Just Playing By Kalki-lations Anymore

by jummy84 October 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Actor Deepika Padukone has been a major talking point in Bollywood recently, primarily for her high-profile exit from two massive film projects: Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit and the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD. These departures, reportedly linked to her requests for an 8-hour workday and demands for higher compensation, have sparked a massive conversation about work-life balance and changing expectations for female stars in the film industry. Now, the new mom seems to have addressed the controversy head-on, stating she has always been determined to ask questions, challenge norms, and redefine the expectations placed on women.

Deepika’s comments came in reaction to her featuring prominently in the recently released IMDb report, 25 Years of Indian Cinema (2000-2025). The comprehensive report analyzed the top five most popular Indian movies released each year over the past quarter century. Out of the 130 movies scrutinized, 10 feature Deepika Padukone, placing her in the highly coveted 4th spot among actors with The Most Popular Titles.

Reacting to her inclusion in the prestigious list, Deepika spoke about the pressure on women in the industry, stressing her determination to challenge the status quo. “When I began my journey, I was often told how a woman must or is expected to navigate her career in order to be successful,” Deepika said. “However, from the very beginning, I was never afraid to ask questions, ruffle feathers, walk a more difficult path and challenge the status quo in order to reshape the mould we have all been expected to fit into.”

The star continued, linking her success to her authenticity and resilience: “The faith my family, fans and collaborators have had in me, have also empowered me to make the choices and decisions that I have, hopefully forever altering the path those after me will tread. IMDb’s Report on 25 Years of Indian Cinema further validates and strengthens my belief that honesty, authenticity and resilience matter, and that by being true to your core beliefs with consistency, change is possible.” Her statements are a clear validation of her recent decisions, framing them as deliberate attempts to advocate for herself and potentially set new professional standards.

IMDb Ranking and Ongoing Project Turmoil

The IMDb report positioned Deepika Padukone above numerous contemporaries and senior actors, including Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Anushka Sharma, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Ajay Devgn, Prabhas, and Alia Bhatt. Shah Rukh Khan took the top spot with 20 titles, followed by Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan with 11 titles each.

Deepika Padukone Statement and tge Context

The context for Deepika’s strong statement is the turmoil surrounding her film commitments. Earlier this month, Vyjayanthi Movies announced her exit from the Kalki 2898 AD sequel, stating: “A film like Kalki 2898 AD deserves that commitment and much more. We wish her the best with her future works.” Sources close to the production later told NDTV that the demands were extensive, including a 25% increase in her acting fee and a strict limit of a 7-hour daily shooting schedule. Other demands included 5-star stays for her 25-person crew.

Earlier this year, similar reports surfaced regarding her exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, which stars Prabhas. She reportedly demanded an 8-hour workday, a share in the film’s profits, and requested not to deliver her dialogues in Telugu, conditions that allegedly led to her stepping away.

The chatter intensified when Vanga posted a scathing, though indirect, note on X, seemingly criticizing Deepika for ‘ousting’ the script of his next film. He wrote, “When I narrate a story to an actor, I place 100% faith… But by doing this, you’ve ‘DISCLOSED’ the person that you are…. Putting down a Younger actor and ousting my story? Is this what your feminism stands for?”

Despite the recent controversy, Deepika’s career trajectory remains strong. She recently announced her collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan yet again in his upcoming film, King, which is also set to feature Suhana Khan. Her ability to secure top projects while simultaneously pushing for better working conditions underscores her unique position of power in the industry.
