Finalists Announced for the 2025 Event Technology Awards (ETA)

by jummy84 September 16, 2025
written by jummy84

The finalists for the 2025 Event Technology Awards (ETA) have been revealed – once again celebrating the very best innovation, creativity, and excellence in the world of event technology.

This year’s awards attracted an excellent number of entries, and the standard was incredibly high across every category. As expected, AI featured strongly throughout many submissions, but it was the new personalisation categories that really caught the eye, with some truly standout entries showcasing how technology is reshaping the way events connect with audiences.

Reflecting on this year’s entries, Adam Parry, Co-Founder of the Event Technology Awards, said: “Every year we’re blown away by the quality and diversity of entries, and 2025 is no different. The way technology is evolving, particularly in AI and personalisation, is incredible to see. Our industry thrives on innovation, and these awards are about recognising the teams and solutions driving that change. We can’t wait to celebrate the winners at Event Tech Live.”

The judges now face the tough job of scoring this year’s submissions. With such a strong field, the process will be anything but easy, but their expertise will ensure the very best innovations are recognised.

A huge thanks goes to Evessio, whose platform once again powers the entire programme – from entry management to the event website. And of course, recognition must go to the ETAs’ headline sponsor, One World Rental, a long-standing partner whose unwavering support for the awards and the wider industry is second to none.

People’s Choice Award – Voting Now Open

Also launching today is the voting for the Favourite Event Technology Supplier – The People’s Choice Award. This category gives event professionals the chance to have their say, voting for their favourite supplier or solution. Bronze, Silver, and Gold prizes will be awarded, making this one of the most exciting categories of the year. Vote here

Abigail Pogson announced as new Barbican Centre CEO

by jummy84 September 5, 2025
written by jummy84

Chief Executive of The Glasshouse International Centre for Music, Abigail Pogson, has been announced as the new CEO of the Barbican Centre, following a competitive international recruitment process. She will take up the role on Monday 5 January 2026.

Abigail brings a wealth of experience, passion, and a deep commitment to nurturing community and artistic excellence.

Her appointment comes at a pivotal moment as the Barbican enters an exciting new chapter with an ambitious Renewal programme to restore and revitalise the iconic Grade II listed venue for future generations. This coincides with a renewed artistic vision that includes seasonal, cross-arts programming and an enhanced civic focus.

Abigail’s values-led leadership and proven dedication to broadening access to the arts sits at the heart of the Centre’s vision, and will drive its work further, helping shape an inclusive, sustainable, and globally relevant Barbican.

Speaking about her new role, Abigail said:

“The Barbican is one of the world’s most iconic cultural destinations, and I’m beyond delighted to be joining at such a critical and exciting time in its history.

“I believe deeply in the power of art and creativity to enrich lives and communities, and I look forward to working with the talented team at the Barbican and its many fabulous partners to bring exceptional, relevant, and joyful cultural experiences to as many people as possible.”

Abigail’s appointment underscores the City Corporation’s goal of making the Square Mile a cultural powerhouse, and reaffirms the Barbican’s role as a global arts, conference and events leader, grounded in its communities, and committed to creativity, innovation, and access to all.

The City Corporation is the owner, founder, and principal funder of the Barbican Centre.

City of London Corporation Policy Chairman, Chris Hayward, said:

“We are thrilled to welcome Abigail to the Barbican. Her track record of dynamic, inclusive leadership makes her the ideal person to lead the Centre through this new chapter and beyond.

“Her arrival comes as the Barbican Renewal programme drives forward – a landmark £191 million investment by the City Corporation to secure the Centre’s future.

“This transformation will support our Destination City ambitions by attracting new and diverse audiences to the Square Mile and reinforcing London’s reputation as a global cultural capital.”

Sir William Russell, Chair of the City Corporation’s Barbican Centre Board, added:

“Abigail’s appointment marks another big moment for the Barbican. She brings both strategic vision and a real passion for supporting artistic talent and the audiences who engage with it. I know she will lead this organisation with skill and imagination as we continue to evolve and connect.

“I give my deepest thanks to David Farnsworth, Managing Director of the City Bridge Foundation, who has served as Interim CEO of the Barbican for the past year on secondment. His inspiring leadership, warmth and tireless commitment during a period of transition have been invaluable. David has played a crucial role in strengthening the organisation and laying important foundations for its future.”

Jackie Boughton, Director of Commercial, Barbican Centre, added:

“Abigail’s appointment signals an exciting next phase for the Barbican’s commercial events offering. Under her leadership, and alongside our Renewal programme, we will elevate how brands, associations and creative businesses use our iconic venue spaces. Every event here directly supports our arts and learning programme, so the success of our commercial offering helps us welcome more people to extraordinary cultural experiences.

This announcement follows the submission of applications this summer for planning permission and listed building consent for Phase 1 of Barbican Renewal. Earlier this year the proposals for the Centre’s foyers, lakeside, catering block and conservatory received over 90% approval in public consultations. In addition to the initial investment from the City Corporation, the Centre is undertaking extensive fundraising to complete Phase 1 and beyond.

The Programme is one of several transformative projects being delivered by the City Corporation, including the Salisbury Square Development, which will house the new City of London Police HQ and multi-courts complex, and the new London Museum at Smithfield.

The City Corporation is one of the largest funders of heritage and cultural activities in the UK, investing over £130m every year. It manages a range of world-class cultural and heritage institutions, including Tower Bridge, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Guildhall Art Gallery and London’s Roman Amphitheatre, The London Archives, and Keats House.

It also supports the new London Museum and is the principal funder of the London Symphony Orchestra, based at the Barbican Centre.

When Vidhu Vinod Chopra Refused To Make Munna Bhai With Sanjay Dutt: “I’ll never make a film with you, I just announced it"

“I’ll never make a film with you, I just announced it”

Munna Bhai is the role of a lifetime, and no one could have done it better than Sanjay Dutt. However, as people know, he was not the first choice for Munna Bhai. Shah Rukh Khan was director Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s first choice for the role. However, things did not work out, which led to Sanju Baba’s life-changing role.

Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra once recalled that he would have never made the film with Sanjay Dutt but just wanted to support him because he went to jail. The 12th Fail director also revealed that Sanjay Dutt was ready to do anything to make a comeback in the films. Here’s what happened!

What Did Vidhu Vinod Chopra Say About Casting Sanjay Dutt In Munna Bhai M.B.B.S?

Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra once spoke about the circumstances surrounding Sanjay Dutt’s casting in the role of his life, Munna Bhai. Chopra explained that the entire industry banned the actor at the time after being convicted in a terrorism case, but Vidhu did not believe this was the right thing to do. He said he had signed up for a project to show solidarity with the troubled star. Dutt was initially supposed to play the role, but it eventually went to Jimmy Shergill.

Chopra admitted that he did not want Sanjay Dutt in the film, so when the actor was released from jail and ready to work, he told him they would have to wait until they worked together. “Sanjay Dutt went to jail. I didn’t know him at all. The whole industry banned him, but I thought this was wrong, so I went to his house and made a film with him. His father said I’d be banned as well, but I said, ‘I don’t care,’” Chopra said during an interview with Kellogg Management School (per Times Of India).

Vidhu Vinod Chopra reflected that Dutt was willing to do anything and wanted to work. “Then, Sanjay Dutt comes out of jail. I remember him calling me from the car. He said he wanted to meet, and he wanted his first comeback film to be with me. I told him, ‘I’ll never make a film with you; I just announced it because it was the right thing to do.’ He’s a straightforward man. A good man but a simple man. He thought the announcement meant that we were going to work together. I said, ‘I cannot make a film with you unless the equation changes because I cannot exploit a good deed.’ It’s a terrible thing to do that you do something good and exploit it.”

Sanjay Dutt, too, struggled to grasp the film’s concept. Chopra admitted. “So when I told him to play Jimmy Shergill’s role, he agreed. He stated, ‘Anything’. Then, Shah Rukh, of course, came to me and he had a throat thing… So, I decided that Sanjay Dutt was the right guy. I told him, ‘You’re doing Munna Bhai’. And he’s such a simple fellow, he said, ‘I know’. I said, ‘No, not that role, main Munna Bhai.’ He said, ‘Okay if you say so, I’ll do it’. He never reads a script…”

But the fascinating part is that this would lead to a collaboration that would become a dream team. Rajkumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and Sanjay Dut, who then worked on Lage Raho Munna Bhai and even in PK, eventually made a biopic about Sanjay’s life.

What Was Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Most Recent Project?

Chopra’s last project was the award-winning 12th Fail, where he served as the writer, director and producer. He then produced Zero Se Restart in 2024, which is a documentary about the making of 12th Fail.

What Next For Sanjay Dutt?

After his recent appearance in The Bhootnii and Housefull 5, Dutt has a major lineup in his cards. He is set to appear in Baaghi 4 and KD: The Devil next followed by Dhurandhar and The Raja Saab. The actor is also reported to star in Akhanda 2, Sheram Di Kaum Punjab and Baap.
